ladybugnova: I hope SOA slaps Farrish hard. It's B.S. like you experienced that gives dealers a bad name
But dishonesty from a sales staff is unacceptable, so I would complain too. Farrish still send me greeting cards, which I find hilarious! As if that would make a difference!
Call the 800 number and fire off an e-mail from their web site. Name the dealer and the sales staff. Try to keep it constructive and honest, and I'm sure you'll hear back from them.
While I had a problem with on particular dealer, people from SoA have been nothing but *awesome* to me. We've had local events sponsored and catered for us, free passes to auto shows, goodie bags, the works. SoA rolls out the red carpet.

Well, of course it doesn't "help", but I pretty much knew that would be the response and only did it to get it off my chest.
So, my point is, don't expect any kind of satisfaction more than the therapeutic value of email bashing.

I'm going down tomorrow morning to look and talk. UNfortunately, my stupid bonus check did NOT arrive today like it was supposed to (along with my regular paycheck) so I can't simply fork over the down and put my name on a loan agreement.
Damnit!

A little while later he u-turned and pulled off so we could switch seats. I drove back, more sedately, and am HOOKED. That sound of the turbo waking up is incredible.
Interesting things: shortly after I took the wheel we were sitting at a light, and behind us was a white 911, maybe a 1997 model year. We made 3 left turns (basically driving a circle back to the dealer lot) and that Porsche made all 3 same as us. Now, maybe he was going somewhere that can only be reached in an extremely roundabout way (that area of NJ has lots of hidden restaurants, horse farms, etc) but it just seemed odd. After the 911 left our tail, a pretty blonde in a Grand Prix GTP showed up behind us, and I think she knew what we were driving. She got right up behind us in and area of slower traffic where she could have gone right around, and seemed to be looking over the car. After a couple hundred feet she pulled into the left lane and passed us (I was being a sane driver for the test) I watched her continue down the road; she didn't tailgate anybody else even though she was quickly in slow traffic.
If I can place an order by this weekend I should have one in mid-June. Blue, 5spd, with the diff protector, speakers upgrade, and mirror/security for $3 shy of 24K. My only difficulty will be finding a taker for my Neon. (Money shouldn't be a problem, as I plan to make a 12K down pay, giving a monthly ~240, a little LESS than I pay for my Neon)

based on the little red, white, & blue emblems, it sounds like you attempted to race an Audi S4. This car is more on par with a WRX based on its 250 hp bi-turbo six (capable of quarter mile times of 14.2 seconds). Sounds like you actually did pretty well and if the road had been twisty, any difference would have likely been due to driver ability. You would be surprised how including the turning of a wheel and braking can affect the outcome of a friendly street joust. If it had of been a stock A4 with either the 1.8t or 2.8, you would have easily been able to keep up.
Remember that there will always be a faster car available. Take solace in the fact that you have a car that is competitive with the Civic SI's, GSR's, Ludes, etc out there.
any ideas? i thought someone else said they had this but the board search here is pretty lame... does anyone have any clues? was it just bad PDI or bad karma (being so close to Friday the 13th)
any help would be appreciated... the dealer will be getting a call on Monday
BTW - for those of you looking to upgrade to a more aggressive tire - i had my WRX fitted with Toyo Proxes T1-S's (225/50/16) - VERY NICE! same diameter so the speedo is ok - on the stock rims.
I think the light will go off once the ECM has 3 (I think?) clear cycles. So, by Monday, it may be off on it's own. The dealer should still be able to read the code (it's stored) and rest your worries.

Go check out www.i-club.com in the Forums for more info there to help...
Thanks for the tire tip. What do you think of Bridgestone RE730's? How would they compare to the Proxes T1-S's?
My WRX 5-sp sedan should be arriving in about 1-2 weeks and I'd like to have the tires ready.
Also, re: forged wheels - the BBS RS 3 pc wheels on my M 6 are so overengineered and strong that a recent pothole experience (245/45/16 tires) wiped out my front shock, shock tower, and both upper and lower control arms with nary a ding to the wheel or tire.
I'm a pretty die hard Toyo guy (last 2 cars had them)... i haven't really done a lot of research on the Bridgestones but preferred having something i know would perform. Good luck!
Gold rims are OK on that type of car (STi). Heck, I wouldn't care if they were PINK! It would match the "i" logo!
Tom: that little flag you talked about is the S4 logo, so no wonder you could not keep up. Just think about the $40 grand that owner spent on it and relax.
Eric: good to know 225/50s fit. No rubbing at all? Remind me - is yours a sedan or wagon? Some people were wondering if the wagon's smaller wheel wells could take 225s.

Just picked up my 2002 blue ridge pearl 2.5 RS last friday, and thanks to the fact that they had a old guy that could barely walk pick it up on a dealer trade and I had to drive it up to MI from OH and back I'm almost done with my brake in. Keepen it under 3k and varying highway speeds. Can't wait to drive it hard. It's no WRX, but it's my first car and I love it. My girlfriend was doubtful, but she even loved it. Her dad drives Mecedes, BMW's, Audi's so shes been spoiled. She was impressed. That and the looks are great. There arn't alot in E.Lansing and Saginaw MI. Everyone stares like "what is that", guys mainly though. That and a mid-aged guy driving a Saab 95 checked it out at a light, and gave me a knod as if to say my car was ok. Overall I love the car, couple little things like the door closing, but I shut it pretty lite, its new I dont want to slam it. IF you live in Mid-0hio definitly go to Hatfield Subaru. Great dealership, talk to Ralph Vanover, he does internet sales and can hook you up. Byers SUCKS! If in Michigan go to Thelens in Bay City and talk to Bob Landowski,Polish Bob as he calls himself, he was trying to get me one but he didn't have anything to trade. But he was a great guy. Once again BYERS SUCKS. So does Ann Aurbor!
Ok now comes the questions. What is the best tire pressure for the Potenza's that come stock? Has anyone taken off the intake silencer, does it do anything? Any other goood lower cost mods (don't have much money left right now)?
Thanks all!
I did a snorkus-ectomy on my Forester, but it has the Phase I DOHC engine, which is different than yours. Still, photos are here if you are interested:
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1400062&a=12183690&f=0
It's louder, and at least feels quicker, SOTP. I do get that classic hum at idle, but that's supposedly only on Phase I engines.
I think the RS has the fatter rear sway bar standard. That was the best cost/benefit mod I've done on my Forester, though.
Mods get expensive though. You could try a K&N or Amsoil foam filter, if you like that type of thing ($40 and up). A UR Pulley runs about $180, an exhaust close to $400.

i've got the sedan. The dealer put in the tires and put weight on the car and turned the wheel to check if it had clearance - he said it was fine. He gave me a really hard time trying to change the tire sizes (especially because he had to give me $400 for the OE tires)
if you're in Canada and want a good tire dealer near Toronto, let me know
i think the Toyo tires are the same as Nitto for the US... hope that helps
I've read through a good number of the posts in this topic and it's too bad so many people were mistreated by their dealers. I called around before leaving my home and already knew who to avoid. The really nasty dealers didn't even want me in the door when they realized what I was doing anyway. "I am not selling below MSRP and I'm not offering test drives if that is what you are after" No problem, I said, thanks for saving me a trip. Well, I did get a test drive a couple actually, and put a silver auto sedan on order by the next morning. (Don't try to talk me into the standard I *wanted* the standard and already had this discussion with my wife, so don't rub it in.)
At any rate, those who have taken delivery, what was your actual wait? This dealer was excellent to deal with, but the one thing I think they stretched the truth on was the wait. Other dealers 'let it slip' that the dealer in question was backlogged for 4 months or more, while I had been told I could be driving the car in May; June at the latest.
Another query. I also took flack from friends for forgoing the rear spoiler. Truth is I liked the cleaner looks of the car without it- but I did agonize over the decision quite a bit. Granted we are talking mostly opinion here, but what's the consensus on the spoiler sporty option or rear view mirror annoyance?
subie lovers, drove the A4 and the TL. hated the A4. could not belive they were asking over 25,000 for this car. ride was bumpy, interior very "thin". automatic had severe lag at start.
the Tl drove well and felt like a luxury car. interior was impressive and the car felt very solid. however 27,000 price tag is a bit high.
so i'm back to the wrx. wife wants an automatic. also had a bad experience by not being allowed a test drive. i disagree very strongly with "mike" on giving kudos to subie dealers. you don't let me drive one, i ain't buying. anyone that buys a car they cant drive is insane, plain and simple. supply and demand does not excuse arrogance.
any inout on the automatic wrx is appreciated. will i lose too much excitement?
thanx,

Spoilers are a personal thing. Totally about personal tastes. I prefer the old one, and think the new one looks like a boomerang, but I'm sure some people love it and think the old one was like a basket handle!
The WRC bi-plane spoiler looks schweet tho!
Some dealers do allow test drives. Call first - I'd even ask if they have a demo that's already broken in (though that may be wishful thinking).
-juice
If wife wants an auto, TL may be the best choice in that price range. Maybe consider getting a year or two old one. Save money and get a superb car.
what do you think of your RS now that you know you were racing S4s?
Drive the auto WRX and see what you think. I imagine first gear will have a bit of lag, but it would be OK once you got going.

seeno, The car looks like a clean hot rod without the spoiler, and it looks like a hot rod with it. I like it better without, but if it were more discreet I might like it. My last car, a Peugeot 505 Turbo sedan, had a little lip spoiler on the edge of the trunk and I liked that just fine. IOW the exact opposite of juice, who likes to strap biplanes onto his cars. IOOW you are absolutely right, the choice is personal :-)

Well new to the boards, but getting my WRX on Weds (if all goes well). I am getting the Silver sedan, 5sp, no rear spoiler (want it to have the sleeper look) but getting the extra stereo stuff, also ordered the Short-throw shifter, but that will take 4wks to get installed (they don't have any yet). I had only good experiences with my local dealer, they let me drive one no problem and had several on the lot. I was very impressed with all aspects of the car. I was able to get it for about 600 over invoice, so can't really complain. I will post back after I get it and let you know how it is.

Just test drove the WRX and loved every aspect save the silver plastic trim around the stereo. I thought it looked and felt a touch chinsy. I wanted to get a look at one with the carbon fibre trim but they had none on the lot at three different dealers. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? I am reluctant to add it on having not seen it, but I am curious if it gives the interior compartment a more "solid" less "plasticy" look.
How much did the Short-throw shifter run?
I am planning to take up a WRX Sedan. I went to
the dealer and test drove it. It is ultimate !!
The dealer had a yellow one but was asking for
5000 $$$ more than the MSRP !!! But for other
colors which were yet to arrive, he said he
could give it for the MSRP.
I would like to get some inputs from you all
before make the I order.
1) How does the sedona red pearl sedan look ?
I wanted to see one before I make up my mind
on it, but I couldn't get my eyes on one.
2) Does the spoiler look good on WRX or does it
really spoil the looks ??
3) Does the automatic give the same kicks as
driving a MT ? With California traffic, I am
seriously thinking of AT !
4) 17" inch wheel (3000 $) and Performance
suspension kit ( 1800 $) - Are they really worth
it ?
5) Does it really take 2-3 months to get one
after placing an order ???
Santa Cruz does $750 over Invoice though, the cheapest in Northern California.
jbreez: The Auto has lag for about 1/2 a second in first gear... Then BOOM the Turbo hits and stays
scuby: Go to www.subaruparts.com and check out what they have, the K+N drop in air filter is $35 bucks I think for the 2002 RS and gives a surprizing improvement for so little money... Taking of the Silencer though will just make the engine louder, which can be a good thing
thanx for the input. i really want the mt, maybe i can talk the wife into it (that will be a first). investigation has revealed that all tls are expensive (2001 avg over 28,000 with tax, title, etc) 2000s around 25,000. cant see spending more money for a two year old car. also guess i'm really looking for excuses to buy the wrx.
once again, thanx for the info. talk to you guys later
oh...any one in central florida buy a wrx at a decent price?
thanx,
jbreez1
Unless it's something Subaru specifically does, I fail to see how running non-OEM size tires would cause the check engine light to switch on. The only thing that the tire size would affect is the odometer calibration (ie oversize tires would spin it faster) and the check engine light has no way of "knowing" what tire size is on.
My Neon's OEM tire size is listed as 185/65 R14. It shipped from the factory with 185/60s; when I replaced the tires in February, tirerack.com actually called me to say "are you sure this is the size you need?" I've never had any problem related to this slightly smaller tire.
post 1296: the reason the yellow one was 5K over MSRP is that color was put on the first 1000 or so WRXs to ship, and after those NO more WRXs will have that color. IMHO the Sedona Red isn't the best color for this car; the yellow is very sharp, with Blue being my 2nd choice (and what will be on my WRX) Black looks good, but ages quickly. White and Silver almost never look good on a car. But it's all a matter of personal taste. I'm sure there're Imprezas in Sedona Red around your place (maybe not WRXs, but the similarity should be enough for you to decide if red is the color for you)
DjB
Heck, that was pre-ODB (level one)!
A tire swap won't cause CEL issues either, but poorly engineered mods certainly could. So could a lot of other things. It's usually emissions related.
-juice
There have been some problems with the first shipment of WRX's and check engine lights, nothing wrong with the cars but rather the light comes on too easily. Take a look at www.i-club.com for more information. FWIW I have an '00 Legacy GT and they recalled them for a CEL problem. Same thing; nothing wrong with the car at all, just a too-sensitive setting in the 'puter that would cause the CEL to trip when it should not.
