ok guys you can give thanks to Tony he finally convinced to me to get patents on the hood. i talked my guy into it and he's putting aside some other work to help me out. I CAN NOW MAKE MOLDS OF MY HOOD FOR SALE. i can start making them next week. they'll be about $750. reminder these are functional. they WILL be alraedy cut out and one piece. if i can get a couple orders, we can take that price down big time. i'm not making any money on these hoods unfortunately its that much in the first place to get the mold made, and then for me to make profit i would have to sell it stupid expensive. if i can put in an order for several at one time we can get an awesome deal. oh, yeah, i've checked most places already, only site that had found that number was usps.com and they said that was shipped in august to PA??? is that the right number / site?
No problem. Hope you had good news today for that $380.00!

Sorry to hear that this tragedy is bringing out our own nutcases. I'm sure that what you see and feel every day is something you'll never forget. The full moon must have brought out that idiot today.
laurasdada-
Sorry to hear about your light show. You have been lucky! ;-)) Do you think you know who has been affected by 9/11? They just opened up a gigantic new area last week. I haven't seen it yet.
A harley? Naw...I just bought a VTX which is a 1800 cc V-Twin pumping out nearly 95 hp and tons of torque. This beast makes Harleys look like childs toys, performance wise that is. I still like the look of HD's but the $22k + price tags keeps me in check.
I wasn't familiar with the VTX but here's a nice writeup on it. Yeah, HD's cost a LOT, but you can generally ride 'em for a long time and sell 'em for at least what you paid for 'em. Not many vehicles, two wheels or four, can make that claim. So the initial cash outlay is high, but the final cost may be lower. Anyway, have a ball with your VTX and that huge motor!
Jedi--They had 3 different color-changing rolls of striping material where I got mine done. One of the Aurora colors was a blue to ?-- can't remember if it was greeen or silver. I was initially thinking straight dark blue or gold striping with no Aurora effect, but when I saw the Aurora red to gold it just grabbed me and I went with it. Everyone who has seen it up close on the car and commented to me just says "Wow!" ~:))
Well, they said the needed more sealant in the door jam. Don't know what was leaking?? First I have heard of any leaks there in any 300M problem ever listed. The swear up & down it's not a body seam. I did wash it lastnigh, & ran the hose up, & down the door. No leaks yet. We'll see I guess. Have no choice really. I'm just fed up with it! How many times does a car have to be back for the same problem before I can get Chrysler's customer service invloved? Been 3 times so far, & am I able to do anything with the lemon law even though I'm out of factory warranty?
I may be mistaken, but I thought that the lemon law applied to any defect/repair that was a 3 strike item. Meaning that if you have to take the vehicle in 3 times within a 12 month period, it was considered a lemon law item.. Perhaps someone else can clarify..
I believe that lemon laws vary by state. In california the rules involve the number of visits to repair the same problem AND the number of days the car is out of commission for the problem. If you're going the "lemon law" route, make sure to document everything. It also sometimes helps to tell the dealer that you're considering it. When I kept having the brake problems with my Galant my dealer got more responsive when he knew that I was documenting everything. In fact, with every problem and repair I would write a memo to my "file" and cc: the regional service manager.
Yup, saw them making that movie....its a pi$$er when I watch the movie showing the Fed's lobby ans a vast expanse of Eyetalian marble, with only ONE guard at a desk. These days, with the cleanup/recovery/rescue underway, the Fed has been feeding the NYPD, FDNY, EMS. Army, National guard, etc in our cafeteria I feel a little safer. But then, I have to go home, which is now taking me close to 2 1/2 hours now.
As for the movie, (fuzzy knows this..) there's a scene where 12 dump trucks come rolling DOWN Maiden Lane and around the corner of the Bank at Williams Street. The street (Maiden Lane) is an UP street, going UP towards Broadway....so much for acuracy.
laurasdada....
As for light shows, several here have had same problem....and had it fixed. It is apparently the body monitor module which controls all lights on the interior, door locks, and in my case--the headlights too! Am waiting for 1/2* dealer to notify me parts are in. They're also going to replace my steering wheel, whose leather 'melted' (?). The dealer keeps telling me that I HAVE to have eMily's sullied finish (scratched by dealer during visit..) fixed by HIS guy.I know he has a contract with the place, and is guaranteeing the quality for life, but I'm not comfortable leaving my car in area that doesn't look too safe/secure; but I'm concerned if I DON'T, the next time I have to go there I'll be 367th in line to get ANYTHING done--yaknowhadImean?
As a running change, the differential was filled with 25 oz. of Mopar 75-W-90 beginning with July 27, 1999 production. The reasoning for the change, laid out in TSB 21-17-99, is to prevent fluid from "burping" from the main differential vent. The lower level predicates changes at 15,000 mile intervals.
Bob Lutz, who previously worked at Chrysler and helped develop the Viper, is now at General Motors and is planning on implementing new designs for GM to help spark sales. Chrysler lost a visionary when he left.
Got her back; she now has a new rack & pinion, a new "gear assembly, power steering," a new door panel, and a new steering wheel.
They also said my seat movement on start/stop was same amount or less on several other LH cars, including a 2001 M. It doesn't move a lot too often, so they probably didn't feel it at its worst.
The steering is absolutely wonderful again -- finally!
The steering wheel feels less leather-like than before, but it's fine, especially since I'll be covering it with a Wheelskin. It's probably less likely to melt. For those with replacement steering wheels, what do yours feel like?
My only complaint is that on acceleration from a dead stop there is a brief vibration/buzzing sound from up front passenger side. I'll poke around in there to see what I can come up with.
All of this plus new steering column, weatherstripping, doors panels -- I wonder how many thousands of dollars my warrany has squeezed out of Chrysler.
I noticed that the plug to my engine heater is missing. Either I lost it or the dealership did. Since I've been poking around the air box area (where the plug is located) and moved it around, I probably lost it. If someone else out there has one that they can look at, could you tell me (visually or with a voltmeter) which wire goes to which of the three blades (wide, narrow, ground)? I think the connector at the other end of the plug has three holes in a line, with two close together. I just need to know which hole connects to which blade. TIA.
i test drove several different benze's and jag's the past few days. i was actually (foolishly) thinking off tradin in my baby for one of those two. there definately AWESOME cars, but... they had far less options and nice little features that the M has, maybe one or two different ones (i.e. auto windshield wipers, nav systems) but id have to say, for the money, the M has got to be the best deal. those are most certanly beautiful cars, however, they weren't enough to trade the M for.. take it from me, this woulda been my 5th new car in 10 months, and the M is the best deal so far.
ok maybe im ranting and raving too much, but u must know how much i LOVE mercedes and jags, and for me to turn them down over the M.. there u have it..
I have noted the sound you describe on all three of the LH cars I have owned (94 Vision TSI 3.5L, 98 Intrepid ES 3.2L, and 2000 300M). In each case, it has been rarely noticeable. I never made a serious attempt to find the cause, and never reported it to dealer service since I'm sure they'd come back with the usual "could not duplicate".
Illini4 ,does the post by jj300m answer your question about the diff level .
scotian-that hose from the engine to the intake resonator allows all the engine gases produced inside the motor to be pulled back into the fresh air stream and be burned in combustion
I asked him if I needed to strip the original coats of Zaino before doing the Z-1 re-application at the recommended interval of 6 months for everyday drivers, one year for show cars. He replied that the application of Z-1 goes right over the existing wax and will in fact tighten and enhance the shine. He also claims that Dawn dish lotion will not strip Zaino wax.
This will be a good time to get out the clay bar and work on the few stubborn road [non-permissible content removed] spots, then apply the Z-1. (and Z-2 plus gloss enhancer). Although the bright silver paint is not the best color for the wet look shine of the darker colors, it really glows at dusk. A guy in a Mercedes last Sunday said, "Wow, what a beautiful car!"
MPG is up due to cooler weather and less A/C use. At the pump prices we pay, that's a good thing.
My car started vibrating at speeds over 45MPH about 6 months ago. I went to a dealer was told that one of the rims ( I have 17" ) was bent and thus was causing a vibration. He also told me that the rims are not covered by warranty and must be purchased for $700 a piece. So I replaced the bent rim with a spare one that I had. Three months later, the problem reappeared. I took the car to the dealer again. I know that they will tell me that the rim is bent again. Meanwhile I know that nothing was done to the car that would cause the rim to be bent (i.e. driving into large potholes, over speed bumps, etc.). If the dealer refuses to replace the rim under warranty, I am planning to write a letter to Chrysler and request a replacement from them.
I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences with 300M rims.
Go back to post 9445 or thereabouts on 2 Oct. One of the guys had a problem with a rim and the dealer made it good. I can't believe they want $700 for a rim when the sticker price was $365 on the Razorstar spare and that included the badyear tire!!
Thanks for the answer, but if the differential lube is now supposed to be changed at 15,000 miles and only re-filled with 25 oz rather than the specified 32, how is the average owner supposed to find out about this? Those of us that follow this forum have the big advantage of you (otto) sharing these things with us, but most owners aren't in that category. If this is really important I would think Chrysler would somehow notify owners directly, rather than issue a TSB which the average owner will never see. My guess is that 98% of LH cars delivered with a 25 oz fill will never get a differential lube change (and probably few if any problems will result).
I'll have to recheck the Service Manual, but I recall that it says it's a "make-up" hose, and one test involves holding a piece of paper against it to make sure it holds it in place, i.e., sucking in air.
There's nothing normal about this noise, and it always occurs. They won't be able to say they don't hear it. It doesn't happen if I accelerate slowly, and it seems to stop once I have some speed.
I think I might have less road noise now that I have a new rack & pinion. I'll have to drive it across a stretch of road that has always been loud for me.
I finally received my 2001 Chrysler 300M Service Manual - talk about a thick book.. But hopefully it will help me answer and respond to some of the questions in this group..
What do you mean they said the rim is not covered by warranty? If your car still has bumper to bumper warranty left ,it sure is covered What year is your car?
I have a request someone posted on the 300M Enthusiasts Club site (http://www.300mclub.org). Anyone know what the recommended tire pressure is for Michelin MXV4 Plus P225/55R17 tires?
That's the tire I have on my 2k php. The tag on the driver's door lists that model tire and says 30 lbs. cold. I run closer to 35 psi with no uneven wear.
Love that spoiler you got on.Do you still have the part number? They are just down the road from me and I would like to get one for my 01.Your car looks great.Any one know the color code for bright silver metallic?Would have joined the chat last night but I work nights.Later
I have the same tires on my 01 w/o php. Mine are S rated - did you get a w or z rated with yours? Just curious
rogor2k I have mine at 33 right now. Upped it recently to see about wear and ride. So far it is fine - haven't noticed a great improvement in ride, but a little certainly...
As far as the vibration goes, it sounds like some type of suspension problem. If you get a vibration when accelerating, have your dealer look into Technical Service Bulletin

Title: Tires & Wheels - Steering Wheel Vibration
If you want to isolate wheel vibration problems, find a shop in your area that has a Hunter GSP9700 wheel balancer. Go to http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/balancer/BALANCER.HTM to get more information. This machine does the best at balancing tires and determining vibrations. Just take the questionable rim to the local shop with a Hunter wheel balancer and the tech can tell you if the rim is actually bent. If it isn't the rim, which I doubt it is since the problem has reappeared with a different rim, get the tire manufacturer (GoodYear?), to test the tires. I had Badyears, and had similar problems, but replaced them recently and I am much happier.
If the vibration happens when you brake, then chances are one or both of your rotors are out of round and need to be re-cut. This can happen if the tires are not bolted back on evenly. A torque wrench meter can determine if the bolts on the rim are evenly torqued onto the studs. If not, over time the angle of the rim can cause the rotor to be worn unevenly.
Hope this helps. If you have Goodyears, replace them asap, they are really horrible tires on the 300M. Good Luck!
I got the Alpine NVE-N852A system. It is the one with the DVD based maps. Build date was June of this year. Now I have to purchase My Panasonic 9000 AM/FM CD/DVD vidio system to get it hooked up. My dad is out of a job on our family vacation get togethers.
The lower seat brackets finally came in the my local 5*. They were installed today and there is now ZERO movement under hard braking or acceleration. Before the new bracket, it felt like the seat would move 1/2 - 3/4". I hope this fix solves the problem. When I picked up the car, I asked the service manager to give me the service bulletin number referring to the problem and he told me it was Chrysler technical bulletin 231901. I searched for this number in the NHTSA website, but received no hits. Hopefully, you guys' dealers will know what it is.
They also checked my "light show" problem and have ordered a body control module to correct it. This module controls all the lights on the car, among other things. This fix is consistent with posts I've read on this board.
I'm really disappointed at DC's changes to the M for 02. I can understand a big rebate or even a price change considering the economy, but lowering the base equipment level on their "flagship" car is a BAD move. It hurts the Chrysler image. Not only that, according to my 5* the only interior color choice is now grey - light and dark but still just grey. (The wife & I love our 01 sandstone interior's classy looks with the lux group.) Soon we'll all have the "non-event" of the 300 Special. The interior seems like it will look cool, but 255HP on premium gas is a waste. This is all those high-paid engineers at DC could come up with since the '99 concept???? A total HP gain of just 3-5 HP(depending upon which year stats you choose)? I'm sure Club members are doing better than that 255 with a K&N, throttle body, and a decent dual set-up! ( DC should be hiring you guys to run the "Special" unit !!!) The latest insult I hear is that DC is planning for an an even MORE base version 300 with .......a cloth interior What's next- the 2.7L as the base engine???
When I bought my 01 M last spring I was feeling a bit of remorse that I did not wait for an 02 Special. Now I'm glad I took the 01 in the color combo I wanted. I regularly get compliments on its looks from total strangers, and with a few strategic mods I should at least equal the Special in performance.
I humbly predict that 20+ years from now the 300M will retain a dedicated following as an outstanding work of automotive art, and that (except for the year the YOU have, of course!) 2001 will be remembered as the 300M's finest hour.
Jon (sincerely hoping DC comes up with something in 2003 to prove me wrong!)
All standard 300Ms ('99-'02)come with "S" rated (118mph) tires. The PHP/PHG equipped cars ('99-'02) come with "V" rated (149mph) Michelins
I run my '01 PHG Michelin Pilot H4 MXM tires at 32psi and am getting excellent, and very even, wear. The comment about correct torque on the wheel lugs is right on. I don't trust anyone but myself to tighten them correctly.
Going to a garage sale tomorrow. Loaded my 300M with: -two disassembled round cribs -two backpack child carriers -large floor lamp -folded double stroller (front to back seating, quite a bulky construction) -child barrier (two long pipes, two short pipes, netting between them)
there is more room left, and I have not put anything in the front passenger seat.
Wife's RX300 is a joke. Couldn't carry a half of this stuff.
Two things. The 02 M interior is available in dark gray and taupe options (see post 9914, labeled as 9441). The sandstone is gone. Also, go back to my posts on Saturday and Sunday and read about the next generation of the 300. It appears that the base model WILL start with the 2.7 litre engine and be priced around $24k. Type 9847 in the "go to" box at the top of the page and start reading from there. I made several posts on the topic.
Thanks for the seat information. I do have a little movement, and may check this out. Three months to go on warranty. I do have a list if minor imperfections that I plan to give to the dealership about a month before the warranty ends, and of course they will probably say is is unrepeatlble or is normal. I just want a record of it so for latter on I can say I tried to have them fix it while it was under warranty. Still loving my 99. Starting to run out of mods=O
First attempt at posting a msg here - hope it works. Was looking at the Hujo mod and was wondering if replacing the Rhino 921 with something like the Magnaflow 14266 makes "engineering" sense? The reason would be to have stainless throughout the entire exhaust system. If the 14266 wouldn't do the job is there something else that is known to work? I'd also like the system to be as quiet as possible but want some of that extra HP.
Heya, maybe some of you a little more read up on this can comment, I noticed at Edmunds write up on the 2002 300M says that the special has 255Hp BUT it has 285FT-Lbs of torque! They list that as being a 7ft-lb improvement, when it's actually more along the lines of 30. So here's what I'm thinking, everyone is looking at the HP, what about the torque aspect? The reason the GTP gets us from the line is that it has 280FT-Lbs of torque available at a lower RPM than our 255. So... I'm wondering if there may be more performance in the special than we orignally thought? Maybe? If someone whos got the flyer on it from the dealership can put in a blurb if it's listed in there....
