    ruski-

OK. I'll resend what came bouncing back to me.

"Hey, driving into NYC used to be super easy - just follow the Merritt to Hutch, then Hutch to Cross-County west, the Cross County west to Saw Mill Parkway south which turns into Henry Hudson south, which turns into West Side highway."

LOL........THAT'S what I mean!! EASY????? LOL....... I need "strret signs" and landmarks!!

PS How about some pics of that new beauty- after it's Z'd of course! ;-))

thats a good site for mats---but I like this other style and they are very reasonable-- http://store.yahoo.com/floormats4less/premallweatf93.html --just $34.95 for fronts in color of your choice-- a four piece set is $69.95--the rears are a little high in price but I dont really need them anyway---they look like a knockoff of the Weathertech mats. You save up to $15 for the front mats over the weathertech. They look similar in design and look just as heavy and durable. And they're made of rubber. I dont like the look of those other mats with the very high edges. And as a bonus, this company ships for FREE--weathertech charges $9 for shipping---guess I know where Im buying my winter mats---but I still need some nice club logoed front mats in a simple design for the rest of the year! (hint, hint)

This has to fate. My 300M has 70 miles on it, I'm going to NYC for the week tomorrow, and the Krispy Kreme on 23rd Street is one block from the Chelsea Bistro where my family is having Thanksgiving dinner. No pumpkin pie for me! Hello Krispy. Oh, and about the new car. The 5***** in Philadelphia has been great. There was a small scratch on the back seat and they replaced it in a day. Not a repair job. And everyone is attenive and fast. So far. Knock wood!

OMG! - Had the baby in for a real problem today. Was very upset - started making a noise from the left front wheels - sounded speed related, not engine, and thought it was something rubbing... couldn't figure it out. Had the mechanic in - got it in a sec. Wheel bearing (weird at 18k mi!). Replaced it w/o problem at the 5*, w/o an appointment even. Was very nice - great place. Chrysler in Exton, PA (forget the name of it). Also had them order a new steering wheel (wearing) and seat bracket. The last two are probs, but not bad and not uncommon...

Underhood lights - 98 concorde had them - later versions did not. Why did they get rid of it? No clue! I was pissed when they repaired my concorde and the new hood did not have a light.

Sidemarkers - can't get them in the US, though there is a hole under the 300M emblem on the side. There is a guy in Europe that may get some for us - check out the boards through www.300mclub.org

Riker2 - What dealer in Philly do you go to?? I live in Montgomery cty - near the mall. Can't stand Lansdale - people I dealt with for my concorde were terrible. Just started going to the Exton one (it's near work). So far, very nice.

Metro Chrysler at the Auto Mall near the airport. I got way below Edmunds TMV, plus 0% financing and a generous trade-in. When I dropped off the car this morning they gave me a brand new top of the line Sebring as a free loaner. I live in town and got a ticket because there was no parking permit sticker on the loaner. When I went to pick up my car this afternoon I handed them the ticket and $15 dollars to cover the cost. My dealer handed me back the money and thanked me for being so honest! I'm telling you, so far, so good.

Good place! :) We bought our old 91 Integra at Metro Acura years ago (well, just a bit over 10 actually) The one time I had body work done there, they were very helpful, especially with the receipt for the insurance company...

Does the fact that the 300M doesn't come optioned
with a manual gearbox take anything away from driving this car?
  • Options
    jona57jona57 Member Posts: 194
There is a logical reason our 300M did not make the Edmunds entry-level luxury sedan test. It only covered cars costing from $33-41K. With DC pricing a well-equipped 2002 300M just below that $$$range, it is now just too good a value !!!!!!!

Well Pat, am I close in that analysis ;)

Yep, if you're into manual shifting it does. Me personally, I've driven manuals for 25 years and don't miss them a bit. When I get the urge to override the automatic I simply drop it into autostick and run my shift points about 2000 RPM higher than the car wants to. :)
  • Options
    jona57jona57 Member Posts: 194
The Autostick transmission in the 300M allows the driver to select gears (within limits to avaoid drivetrain damage). While it is not a manual, it is fun to drive in that mode. And having the 'normal' mode for this auto tranny is useful for those of us subject to sitting in urban traffic jams : (
  • Options
    splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
I do not argue that having a manual tranny on this car would make it scream. However, almost guaranteed I'd have gotten the auto w/autostick anyway, so it really doesn't bother me much ;)

A guy I knew got an accord w/vtec 4cyl, not the 6, specifically because the 6 was only auto, and he wanted a manual. To each their own :)
  • Options
    easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
but I would have a hard time smoking my cigar while drinking my Dunkin Donuts coffee, and talking on the cellphone while trying to shift manually. The autostick gives you the best of both worlds--automatic for when your hands are otherwise occupied, and semi-manual for those aggressive times and on those exit and entrance ramps. The M's tranny is a nice compromise.

i just ordered the kvr`s for my `99,they are $143 per rotor for the front.this is because i have the phg and they are different from the others as they have a 35-40 degree bevel in the in side of the hat for clearance.he done some special measuring for my set.they didnt match anything he had. he had to order a new set from the dealer, then cross drill them and cad plate them.i`ve been working with gary on this and he`s been a great help.

i have done alot of research lately on the different rotors and brakes out there(drilled, slotted, cryogenics, etc.) there is no actual proof that any of this is beneficial to the brakes lasting longer or stopping better.
its all mearly for "LOOKS" and "SALES PITCH".depending on who you talk to,theirs is the "best".at least gary at KVR told me all this up front!
i ordered the crossdrilled, because i have 20" kmc`s and you can see the whole rotor.
GOOD LUCK! give gary a call @ KVR..1800-636-0854.
you all can use my name as a reference( Andy Crawford) and this will save you a lot of time.

P.S...i think there is only a difference of $100 or so between KVR`S drilled and the dealer stock.
i still believe crossdrilling has to add for cooling! but thats only an opinion and there are lots of thos out there!
  • Options
    easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I would think the cross drilled would run somewhat cooler due to increased air flow through the rotor---but I wonder if they may wear quicker due to less contact surface area--they are probably best if you drive aggressively and use the brakes excessively---on the track, I would think they may well be worth the added cost--on the street for average driving I question the value except for the looks--
  • Options
    splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
So on the original question - with or w/o cross drilled, has anyone noticed a real improvement with KVR rotors over the stock? I prolly have to get mine turned - as I'm getting a little vibraiton. But the pads are fine, only 18k mi on them

Well, the autostick is better than a plain automatic, but it's no substitute for a manual transmission. This car would really fly with a good 5-speed stick.

After insisting that all of the 1998+ carpeted and Xtreme vinyl Catch-All mats fit both the Intrepid and 300M, and to verify this with the engineers, I recieved the confirmation:

"THE 2000 AND THE 2001 ARE THE SAME SORRY IF THIS WAS CONFUSING BUT IT WAS FOR ME TO. BUT PER MATT STANESIC OUR ENGINEER THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2000 AND 2001 INTREPID ARE THE COLORS AND THEY SHOULD FIT THE 300M ALSO"

So I've ordered a set of black Xtreme mats from www.mats4less.com.

    scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
I think I'll just get mine turned, new pads, and spend $$$ on a true dual cat-back exhaust. The looks of cross-drilled aren't all that important, and even if they were a lot better in performance, I neither tow nor drive in mountains or hilly areas, so I don't need them.

Thanks to everybody on this town hall for your honest and straight forward comments on the 300M.

I was on the fence until a couple of days ago, I had my next car purchase narrowed down to 2 vehicles (the other was the Lincoln LS v-6 manual). I've been a Ford owner for a long time having owned a Taurus SHO , Expedition and Escort GT. The decision wasn't easy but your input has guided me to go to my local Chrysler dealer and test drive a 300M.
I was actually quite impressed with this vehicle, the ride, styling and quality were levels above the competition.

After the test drive the dealer gave me a brochure to look at. As I thumbed through page by page I noticed the 300M Special, I knew then that this was to be my next car.

I called the dealer the next morning and placed the order for my Special.

Looks like the end of next month before it arrives,
    I'll keep everybody posted.

    thanks, ron

Congrats on your order. I think you're the first person posting here who has ordered a special. Mind telling us how much extra the special package cost?
My 2000 just passed 24K miles. I've had a few small issues, all of which have been handled under warranty, and I continue to be enthralled with my M.

Anybody else have problems with their "Badyears" holding tire pressure? After 7500 miles (year and 9 months, embarrassed) I've had problems with 3 of them failing to hold pressure. A quarter can of fix-a-flat corrects the problem permanently but still. I assume the problem is with the rims.

Thanks for the link to that article! I'm surprised the same thing didn't happen to me! The only problem is that everything on MY website is 100% ACCURATE! PLUS, I KNOW they spent $3,300 in warranty repair work on Christine in 33 months! I also have fairly detailed records of who I spoke to, when and the results of those meaningless conversations!

I say BRAVO VW owner! I hope you countersue them and win!!!!!!!!

The day will come when the old-fashioned clutch will go away. Sorry to tell all you believers but the writing is on the wall. If the clutchless system were not at least as good then Formula 1, some Porsche models, and almost all Ferrari's wouldn't be using it. In fact...no professional quarter-miler uses a clutch. Granted that auto-stick is little more than an automatic with an override but we must improve the system...it is the future like it or not!

HEY 300M Owners - Read this post at 300mclub.org ( http://pub88.ezboard.com/f300menthusiastsclubfrm1.showMessage?topicID=102.topic ). If you want to help support this guy...please do. The dealer is multi-million dollar v. individual. I kicked in money for his legal defense, but you don't have to. This is no joke or gimmick...this guy is getting $crewed.

fastdriver - If you go to the actual thread ( http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=52126 ) you'll see this dealer (Jim Ellis Volkswagon) is actually suing for libel and defimation.

So let me get this right: I post my opinion of shoddy service (or no service) and I get sued. I'm pretty sure that my Free Speech right would be in question here.

I'm from the area, and I'm pretty pi$$ed about the whole thing. If it would happen to me (thank God my 300M was nearly flawless...and my F-150 ... and now my F-250), I would be furious. This VW owner is smart, he has it documented and now it's gone international.

This thing is gathering attention from all sorts of online auto-enthusiasts (us).

Oh man!. Went out this morning and poor "Beast" was covered in 3" of snow. Now instead of being inferno red it's infuriating white. I swear he was shivering.
With reference to the daul exhausts I wanted to put on, my 5* dealer has said that it would probably be O.K. under the warranty but would not give me anything in writing so I'm still deciding what to do. Actually I just want it a little louder. Has anyone tried just removing the third muffler (the one just before the tips) to see how the sound was. I could always reinstall it if I had to before taking Beast in for service.

Its Wednesday morning in New York City and its a balmy 26°.....cold but not too bad. Came up out the last hole in the ground I commute through to and was hit in the nostrils with whats become a part of the downtown NY environment: sulfur dioxide and smoke.
Its been almost 2 1/2 months since 9/11/01, and my heart goes out to the families and all people who have lost someone as a result of the events of that day. It will no doubt be a sad Thanksgiving for them.
Over this time, I had--and still am having-- a hard time coming to grips with the horror that ocurred that day. I do not sleep well at night, am having some rather weird dreams, regularly ocurring, and some other unpleasant side effects. The 'counselors' that the Bank brought it say this is normal; but I plan on speaking to someone one-on-one about this as soon as I can find some time. I know it will take some time, but I am trying.
I have begun to look at life in a completely different way since that day. At the rsk of getting too philosophical at 7:58 am in the morning, life is just too damn short. My girls have become young women before these old eyes, and though they are young women I will always worry about them. When I look at myslef in the mirror early in the morning, I see a little more gray hair and a little less hair to boot--its tough getting older, huh? I tell my schweetie, who worries if I'm a half hour late getting home- that I don't worry so much about myself going into the city, but that I worry about what would happen to THEM if 9/11 was to happen again. Commuting into NYC is as much a part of my job as my job itself is. (<--end of phlosophical ranting)

As for all my friends, fellow 300m owners and enthusiasts I want to extend an electronic manly hug and wishes for you and your families for Thanksgiving tomorrow. When you sit down to eat tomorrow, look around you and give thanks for all that we have as Americans. Give thanks for the people (and family pets) that care deeply for you, though sometimes they may not say so. Give thanks for the camraderie that we as 300m owners have and will continue to enjoy. Last but not least give thanks for living in this great country of ours. I have never been so proud to be an American.

    Have a great Thanksgiving from

I know how you feel. It's hard to come to grips with what has happened and how it's affected everyone...

It's a good time of year to reflect, and definitely give thanks for all we've got (our M's included! :) My girls are getting bigger everyday, and almost out of the house (the older is a junior in HS - gah!) too soon...

On a side note - even though she's got a learners permit, and will get a license in Jan, she doesn't like driving my car - too fast. And that feeling I have no problem fostering :-D

And, after getting into the car in some ungodly cold weather, I can't imagine how I lived w/o heated seats!

    scotian...
the reason i plated the rotors is because the whole rotor will rust inside and out which in return ruins the cooling abilities of the fins and also looks like crap.the pads clean up the friction area ,but not the whole rotor! my 20" wheels are an open design and it shows everypart of the brake.i will be powdercoating the calipers too.
besides..it only cost $10 bucks per rotor.

    99 300m ric va....
as for the cost of my wheels, i paid exactly $350 per tire, and $350 per wheel.but thats because i have some friends in the tire business.
i believe the tires retailed for like $429 or so,and the wheels retailed for $489.
  • Options
    splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
Where are you getting them coated? For $10/ea that's something I'd consider - just for the looks. I've got the chrome wheels, and you can't see the rotors all that well, but you can see them. The chrysler stuff rusts to all get out - had that problem on my concorde. However, on the concorde had you couldn't see the rotors at all, so I never cared much. We spend more than that on Zaino :)

the guys at kvr are plating them but you should be able to find a local shop that does this in your area.its a common thing.usually anyone who does chrome plating anodizing or powdercoating would do it.might look in the phone book under metal finishing.
also, you can get it done in gold, silver, and black.there might be other options too.

I've always heard that the aerosol flat fixer goop is really a bad thing to do to a tire. Among other things, it can cause tires to go out of balance. Of course since the Badyears usually have balance problems to start with, perhaps the flat fixer goop will settle in the right places and improve the balance instead.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!

P.S.: my silver beauty finally gets to go to the body shop at my 5* on Friday to have the damage caused by my bike rack falling on it repaired. Stupid bikes and rack did $1500 damage, but it sure doesn't look like $1500 worth. Body work is getting expensive, eh? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 5* body shop will do a good job.

is terrible stuff for the tires. It fills your wheel with goop and will definitely throw it off balance. I'm not sure if it can really be cleaned out or not - you'd have to remove the wheel and actually wash it out. However, if you don't have, or can't change the tire when you get a flat, it is very good stuff for an emergency.

While this isn't directly related to the 300M, it is automotive-related since it relates to our ability to communicate freely in automotive forums such as this one. Check out the Atlanta Journal-Constitution cited above at http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/epaper/editions/saturday/metro_b36fb002844b70b60008.html .

This is the story of a guy who complained--apparently accurately--about a bad service experience at a VW dealership in Atlanta, Jim Ellis Volkswagen on a www.vwvortex.com forum. The guy's message was responded to by dozens of people who had similarly bad experiences. The dealer's response? Rather than address the customer service problems, the multi-millionaire dealer files a lawsuit against the guy, a student, for slander. If you're in the Atlanta region, I'd urge you to get on the phone and complain to the nearest Ellis dealership--they sell a variety of brands. Hell, complain to all of them. Also, you may be able to help by filling in the "contact" form for Ellis at: http://www.jimellis.com/contact.asp and voicing your dismay. Finally, I'd urge you to spread the word among any other BBS's in which you participate.

This may seem like a small issue relating to only one little guy far away, but it has serious implications for those of us who value honest and open discussion in forums such as this.

For those interested, I posted a general summary of defamation law here.
  • Options
    splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
    also posted at 300mclub board...

There is a fine line between opinion and defamation, this is true. But I think contacting both the dealer, and primarily VW corporate, may put a stop to this.It really doesn't matter whether the dealer is right or wrong - would you or anyone you know willingly purchase a car at a dealership that would do this? I think, if it becomes well known enough, they will drop the charges, because even winning will cause them to loose (they can't delete the text once it gets copied by thousands of people ;) and there customer base will probably shrink substantially. It will also look terrible for VW, and I have no doubt that after enough responses to them (VW Corporate) they would either force them to stop, if they can, or distance themselves from the dealership.

The guy may be wrong by the letter of the law - but it doesn't mean that the dealer is right...

for what it's worth, I recently got eMily back from autobody PROFESSIONAL after repairs resulting from 1/16th star dealer gave me free scratch down the passenger side of the car, PLUS (he paused for dramatic effect...) destroying the polycarbonate trim piece just ahead of the passenger side rear wheel! What a dealership, ay?
The autobody guy I dealt with matched the Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat poifectly; plus he fixed a minor scratch on the rear bumper fascia AND clear-coated that too. Total coast to the dealer's insurance company: a tad under $600!
He also painted--on all four wheel wells--the inside lips which had gotten stained as a result of using TireWet tire dressing product. The label said --which I read AFTER the damage was done-- NOT to use on tires that were newer than 6,000 miles as a dark brown goop would be thrown off onto the car body resulting in PERMANENT stains---yikes! Boy, I caught some serious fecal matter as a result of that! All is well with eMily now--sorry no before and after pix--I was too traumatized!

    Happy T-day, everyone!
