There is anoter figure you forgot to mention, and that is the off set. With out the H&R springs you can go wider but because you are planning to use the springs (you are, aren't you?) this will limit the width of the wheel/rim size. So you are talking about the same stock width to keep the fender clearance mainly during turns.
Remember the Special is actually slower (even with the exhaust, gearing and hi octane gas(because of the extra 70lbs)) then the standard M's. If you want faster then the regular M's are for you. The Special will be better for the corners. So if you are going to race an standard M make sure you have a half tank of gas or less and he has a full tank
I have the standard stuff: Borla, K&N, Plus 4s. Objectively, I can't tell a bit of differences other than I like the way it sounds. I just see it as useing the good stuff to make sure that it does what it was made to do.
There's nothing you can do to a modern engine like putting a set of PowerPack heads, a Duntov cam, and a 4 Barrel on a Chevy 283. Those days are gone. The only engines I've understood since catalytic converters were the 5 horse Briggs on my kids' go-cart and the Ford 351 in my boat. It has a points and condensor distributer and a Holley carb - the real stuff.
the bolt pattern is 114.3 like u said, i dont think you will be able to fit a 45series sidewall on a 20" rim tho, not enough room on the strut. keep it safe and go 245, there was maybe less than 1/8" clearance with my 255 wide tires. 245/35/20 would be your best bet. check with tom and some others see what they got
those days maybe gone, but i just got a 71' chevelle that i've been workin on for about a month now. gotta go back to the roots before you can roam through the new stuff. dont forget about custom stuff now tho, for the 300m we could make gears, a new tranny, drivetrain, driveshaft, its all possible, just depends how much you want it and time/money factor. i wish there was a bolt on supercharger kit. the new maxima's, my oh my that supercharger kit (from stillen i think?), runs that car like crazy. it put up a fight against my bro's wrx, and that runs 12's all day. impressive stuff.
Russklass-- Unless all the stuff I got from signing on as a Member for the Woodward Dream Cruise is wrong, the correct date is Saturday, Aug 17, 2002, and consequently, the plant tour would be on the 19th. I think you were off by a week.
Did you try Meguiars Endurance. It comes in two flavors; high-gloss (G-75xx)and satin (G74xx). I like the satin finish, and as long as you don't slather it on, (and give it a short set-up time) it will not kick back onto the car.
Just curious, you guys are more into this than I am. I have heard references to steel blue, my 01 LHS, and slate. Are they the same color just different yrs or are they two different colors.
The tire size I meant to say was 245/40-20 slightly taller than what we already have...
300michael
Im not sure what the offset is, they are currently on a FWD Lexus RX300... Im thinking I will probably be ok with the rim itself, if not I could just get some spacers to clear the strut... but Im worried about the extra height of the tires... Im definately staying lowered though... Any thoughts ?
achance-Juneau, ALASKA. Maybe in that one week you have summer, when the sun stays out for 24 hours. I could help you. LOL Just as long as there is NO SNOW!!
russklass- sounds like you have it all planed out.Hey how about a Bill's game?
So whats the deal , nobody in Cali or FL need help . only places that get more snow than Brampton.
I special ordered a '63 Pontiac LeMans "326" V-8 (actually a 330 ci, but didn't want to upstage Chevy's 327 ci). This engine was a sleeved-down 389. Got the rare heavy-duty pressure plate, 3.70 rear end, and "three-by-the-knee". What didn't arrive as ordered was the four barrel carb, dual exhausts, and heavy duty suspension. I added a home made transistor ignition using the Pontiac Xistor ignition coil, Bonneville cam with collapsed 421 super duty hydraulic lifters, and bigger jets in the two barrel Rochester 2GC carb. It would turn 15 flat in the quarter mile on stock tires and beat a tri-power, 4-speed Catalina with slicks, pulling away in high gear! Won E Stock that day, but could not keep up with the goofy rules that allowed the '57 Chevys to run retrofitted 4-speeds and fuel injected 283's. My Poncho was so front heavy that you had to let it kind of roll off the line at fast idle and gradually get on the gas, followed by really scary torque wrapup and sideways slide. I never got "hooked up", even with Bucron stickies. I should have waited a year and got a GTO!
For those of you that have Kragan Auto (or checkers....and there's one other whose name escapes me), they have floor jacks on sale for $14 or so. They're only 2 ton, but more than enough to get a corner off the ground.
Would you guys believe that my wife's grand caravan is still leaking tranny fluid all over the floor? It's been in the shop THREE times for this in the last two months. Cripes! How hard can it be to find a leak?? You put the car on a lift, wipe down everything until clean and dry, and in the morning you go find where the fluid is! Or do it with flourescent dye. Either way, how hard can it be???
SDMike/AV--Hey if you want more muscle and performance without all the BS that some of those products claim they can give you, just do what I did. Get the SS markers for this year's Monte Carlo and add em to the fenders under the 300M logo badge if you still have one there. [SD Mike posted a picture of mine here some time ago] You would be surprised how much faster the car feels once you get the SuperSport badge on the car. I feel like I'm back in the 60's. And...all Chevys pull over to the travel lane in respect as you tool by them. Ha, Ha.
I like the idea of a little unique badging under my 300M logos...kind of like the special but indicating that the car is "custom". I know someone (michael?) added the "custom" lettering, but I'd rather find something all in one piece so I don't have to get the letters straight. I found a small shark logo a while back on the net but lost it (I think it was at a porsche site) which would be cool. It was a couple bucks.
I already saw a 300 SPECIAL here yesterday. I had the camera with me, but by the time I took pics, she was already in the gas station. It was up by Jog Rd. and Southern Blvd. The first thing I noticed were the turn signal mirrors. Then I saw the duals and the ground effects.
Don't worry. The Acura is in the garage in CT. Driving a KIA RIO here! Same as in February! ;-)) Besides, the Christine curse is gone! My car is great so far. Ruski just got a bad one like I did with Christine!
Saw a blue TL-S fly by me the other day, but couldn't see the plate. I think I was on Jog Rd. or in that area. Friends of mine went to the casino on Sample Rd. yesterday and WON!! From what they describe, nothing like what we have in CT. PAPER comes out of the machine and not coins?? I like the noise. ;-))
Hope the rain has stopped for this week. 6.58 inches in Lake Worth is enough for me. It was 80 and sunny in CT. I should have stayed home!
Going to the Chrysler dealer on Military Trail to see if they have any 300 Specials.

Had to skip to the end here without reading all the other messages because my time is limited here in the library.
I knew DC had a high mark up on their service, but wow! But seriously, if I were rich I'd have no problem flying you down here. (You don't want to come to San Diego today anyway...it's cold and drizzley).
No rush on the resume today anyway....I'm not at work. Had jury duty. Sat in an uncomfortable chair for 3 hours then at 11:30, after calling one group, they sent the rest of us home (yeah!). I'm done with my obligation for a year. I'm working from home the rest of the day...well actually I was thinking of taking my son to the movies and prentending I'm working.....
Did you order this weather? It's not too bad if your plans are to be at work all day, but if you're into bike riding, working on stuff in the yard, or even driving somewhere it's the pits! It's nice to see Big Red bead water like the day she was first Zaino'd...even though it's been at least two months since the last coat.
Enjoy your day kinda off. I'm glad I'm not under pressure to send you the resume. I've been doing "honey do's" all day and won't be able to get back to it until the kids are all in bed tonight. I think my wife is trying to squeeze as much work out of me as possible before I start my job search.
I just want to mention to anyone considering getting this setup to think twice.
After 3 months of tinkering with these brakes, and the nearly $400 cost, I have deemed this experiment a failure and have gone back to stock rotors and ceramic pads.
They were noisy from the start, and the noise never got to an acceptable level. Even Gary the tech guy at KVR admitted that this was as good as it was going to get. He recommended removing the rotor backing plates and running ductwork from the grille to further cool the rotors.
Anyone wanting to experiment for themselves can have the entire setup for the cost of shipping.
My guess is that someone will be all over that offer, even with your...ahem..."ringing endorsement". Sorry to hear that it was a failure for you. I guess that's why I'm sticking with stock stuff. Seems to stop my car just fine, and its quiet. Maybe I'll guess again the first time my rotors get warped.
I think the biggest culprit on rotor warping is the gorillas that overtighten, and inconsistenly tighten, the lug nuts. I have 1/2 a mind ( I know...most of you think that sentence should stop there)...to take a torque wrench with me to the tire shop next time and tighten them myself! No car had bigger rotor problems than my 99 Galant though. two sets of rotors, and numerous "turnings" in just 18 months.
Email me (chris_martin@bourns.com) a shipping address, I'll calculate shipping charges and let you know. Send me the shipping charges and they will be on their way!
I have always used a torque wrench when tightening the wheels, and was watching when the car was worked on by the one mechanic I allow to touch it. He used a torque wrench as well.
In my case the culprit seems to be heat. The first set of rotors I took off of my car were actually in shades of blue from the heat (this with my first experiment with carbon-metallic pads). The ceramics, do much better, and the stock pads are of course the easiest on the rotors, but feel soft to me when braking.
So I know you guys and girls on the west coast and in the south couldn't care two beans about this but the temperature here in Ontario finally got up to 70 degrees to-day.Got up early and washed Beast with Dawn detergant, dried him off, mixed up the ZFX with 2oz of Z-2. Within an hour and a half I had two coats of polish on him. This is great stuff. Goes on easy, buffs easy and doesn't leave a residue in the crevices. The shine is great. More tomorrow if the temp. hold up.
Now just get yourself some Z6 and a "californa car duster" and you'll be all set! Please send some of that nice weather our way. We have wet stuff falling from the sky today, and our normal blue has been replaced by gray.
on my way home today I saw a guy in an Airborne truck (the company was Airborne...not the truck) sitting a street away from me looking at a map. My caliper paint was sent via Airborne, so I suspected he was looking for me. I figured he'd find it fine. Just minutes later he drove up to my house nice and slowly...and kept going! Surely he'd realize the numbers were going the wrong direction and come back, but i never saw him again! Jeez! I'm hoping it wasn't for me, but I haven't seen more than two Airborne trucks on my street in 5 years!
I got Z-6. I got the Californa duster,I got the Californa squeege I got Z-2, I got Z-5, I got Z-6 and Z-7 and and and and other stuff. And I got a wife that thinks I've gone over the edge.
You HAVE gone over the edge. It's kind of fun over on this side, isn't it? lol. Tell your wife that you know a guy that not only has that stuff, but he's also done all these mods to his car AND to top things off has a web page devoted to it! Maybe she won't feel so bad anymore.
I sent off an email to Phases and got a reply tonight. Here is his response:
hey there!
thanks for the email, nice to know noone forgot about good ol phases lol, however i can only go to .mil sites, no .com's.. so let everyone know i said hi!
yeah cant wait to get to the M, should, i say should, be home in a month or so. i cant wait!!

I have checked the headlamp assembly and it looks like the conversion can be done. I have to work out a few details, and do some grinding with my dremel tool. I have plans for two different ways to acomplish it. I do have two critera though: First the assembly must be able to handle both the new 9006 bulb and the stock 9006 XSLL bulb. Second the bulb filiments must be in the identical orginal location as not to change the light pattern. Once I work out an adaptor plate and solve a screw loccation problem. I believe it should work. at least the odds are better then 50/50 now. I will keep you posted. Continue to work on an discount like the PT club got. Thanks. It is going to be like "Junkyard Wars" over here for the next couple of days. (I can only work only an hour or two a day, and unlike them, I do not have all the nice tools.

Sorry...just venting.
Low beams would be used 99% of the time anyway.

Amazing. It's 70º F and slightly overcast here in Brampton. And they're calling for 80º+ tomorrow and Wednesday.
BTW I may be off the list for a bit, our ISP is quitting this area so we have to get another. I'll re-subscribe asap.

I must have had a senior moment.

Oh yeah..the duster and the squeegie rule!
So far so good with my non-KVR (OEM, I believe) cryo-treated slotted rotors with KVR semi-metallic carbon pads:

http://www.MyRoadster.Net/
No noise, brake well, smooth and flat braking surface.
muskateer3 - Rotor backing plates? We don't have them on the front -- the rotors that matter -- just the rear:

Did you get rear rotors as well?
