4. The auto off headlights (Even on the EX and EX-L)....
Auto off headlights? How?
I wrote my down and emailed them to myself to my Google GMAIL account, which I can access from my cell phone. If I ever need the codes, I open my Gmail account and search for "honda radio navigation codes" and the email I sent myself comes up. This way I can never lose the codes.
Do you have any idea what they did to reset the DVD player. I haven't taken ours in yet because none of the service advisors I've spoken to seem to know what to do. I don't want to go in and pay $50 to have them shake their heads.
Chris
Does anyone know of another way to get these codes? Is it hard to pull these items out myself? I am less than thrilled with the Acura dealer where I bought the Ody for (1) not having the code sheet to give me; and (2) selling me a car with a battery that was about to die. I would rather not shell out $150 to get those codes if I can pull the units out myself with ease (although I am not particularly handy with these kinds of projects).
Thanks.
I really liked your post. One Question. What year and trim is your odyssey? (ie 2005 EXL) did it have a sunroof?
I am getting ready to intall an aftermarket dvd like yours in my 2005 exl and want to know what you owned.

The DVD under seat is not mounted all that complicatedly so you could do it yourself. You may be able to read the SN just by using a flash light and a mirror. I will try it tonight when I get home and let you know if it can be done.
I'm really hoping I can get this to work. I've got an 07 EX-L with Navi. I'd love just to have a mini-DIN input on the front of the stereo (or fed to the glove box), so I don't care as much about controlling the iPod as I do about "clean" signal into the stereo. I know I can feed it in through the back RCA inputs but I'd rather not have to run a cable back there.
Thanks!
Jerry
Honda is pretty famous for changing practically nothing from model year to model year within a generation. I have the USA Spec device on my 2005 EX-L (with RES and NAVI) and it works great. The a/v system is made by Alpine for Honda. I'd bet $50.00 to a nickle that what works with the '05, works with the '07. Nevertheless, if you buy it from Crutchfield and Crutchfield says that it'll work on yours, Crutchfield will take it back if it doesn't. The most you'd be out is either the time to install it yourself or the cost to pay someone else to do so.
As for the headphone issue, I experienced that after install of my USA Spec, but my dealer acknowledged that a cable between the dvd deck and the headhunit is defective (and mentioned in a service bulletine, supposedly) and replaced it for free.
I used my iPod with a cable from the front seat to the audio inputs of the 3rd row for nearly two years. It *blows* by comparison to the USA Spec, because with the Spec, you get much better signal to noise ratio output. With the cable (even an expensive Monster cable), I had to jack the iPod volume to max, then jack the headunit volume to about 40% higher than I'd use it for any other input to get seemingly equal output. The Spec device is the way to go.
Were you able to install it yourself or did you pay someone else to install it? I'm always worried about possibly breaking some of the dash or something trying to remove it to work on the stereo.
Here's the part I plan on buying. One more question. Did it require an adapter to work with the Navi? I don't plan on using XM Radio so don't care if I have to disconnect it to hook up the USA Spec.
Thanks again!
Jerry

I am looking to get something like this for my wife's 2005 EX-L RES as well and I want to make sure that NOTHING changes regarding the factory original setup. She would not like that and I don't need the frustration of trying to explain why things are different.
So is it really as easy as hitting the AUX/XM button and listening to your iPod? It sure sounds like the solution I am looking for.
Thanks in advance, Keith
My advice is to be patience for the "newer" interface if you want the function for "On screen Song Title, Artist and song selection from Menu on all Factory /FACTORY NAV radios".
Per usaspec.com, it has the capabilites on model # PA20-TOY for Toyota/Lexus in the Fall of 2007.
Thanks, Keith
-DVD sound going in and out of wireless headphones AND the wired headphone jacks in the back seat. Would go out for long periods of time.
-DVD sound worked fine through Van speakers, even when it was not working through the headphones
-Sound would work fine with AM/FM/XM/CD changer through all headphones, even when the DVD sound would be out.
After being forced to listen to 100s of Wiggles and Dora DVDs I finally decided to get it checked out. Before going to the dealer I researched the problem on this forum. I found some posts with similar problem in 2005 Odysseys. The culprit appeared to be the digital link cable. I printed out and turned over the evidence to the dealer when I dropped it off.
When I picked it up they said they could find nothing wrong, but they did give me 2 new sets of headphones because the sound was out in the right side on both of them (which was due to abuse from my children). Fortunately before I drove off I was able to get the problem to reproduce myself in the parking lot. I called the technician out and he witnessed it for himself. Again I suggested the Digital link cable, but he wanted to order a new DVD player and install it.
The new DVD player worked fine for 2 weeks, then the same symptoms started all over again. The dealer wanted me to bring it in again. They pulled out the DVD player and tested it alone, it worked fine. After more tests they determined it was a cable that links the DVD player to the rear headphone sound system, THE DIGITAL LINK CABLE which is what I told them the first time  .
They kept my van overnight and had the cable mailed in. I've had no problems since.
If you have the same unique set of symptoms where only the DVD sound is acting up with the rear headphones (I encourage you to test the headphone jacks in the back too) you should plead with your dealer to replace this cable first and save yourself some trips.
Thanks much for any help
My wife and I are a little disappointed as our previous vehicle (2002 Suburban) had some options that we figured were just standard by now (trip computer, etc) on all midline vehicles. We were wrong and didn't all the necessary research.
So, my understanding is that had we got the NAV option, we would have. My question is that has anyone attempted to buy/obtain a NAV module - you know the dash console unit - from a wrecked (junkyard) Ody and replace the non-Nav console with it?
My understanding is that the console/wiring is the same and its just an insert.
The NAV is pretty complicated and I've seen folks quoting figures of $5,000 to do a swap. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. It also includes extra buttons on the steering wheel (for the voice activation), a backup camera, GPS antenna, and an XM antenna. From what I've heard the wiring is NOT there for all that stuff either.
We bought the factory NAV. It's ok but really the only part that's nice is the backup camera, and that's a darn expensive backup camera. I guess there's an Alpine aftermarket that's a good fit on the Ody.
What features are you looking for? I don't think the NAV will add anything that the Suburban had.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks
If you do an internet search, there are a couple of places that have a bunch of options.

I'm installing the RES myself and needed to hook the Audio via speakers. My kids are too small for headphones.
I'm not 100% finished yet, but the AUDIO works perfectly. Don't have an Ipod yet, that's comming down the road. Can not confirm how does that work with Ipod.
Got it on E-Bay, brand new.

Were you able to successfully install the replacement?
I was wondering if you could provide a few more details about how you installed the usaspec for your ipod? I have read lots of recommendations for usaspec but it is not clear to me yet how simple is the install? Is it difficult to pop the panels off? (I would be a total novice if I did it myself.) Another question is where did you end up putting the usaspec interface? In the glove box? I was hoping I could fit in one of the compartments in the center of the vehicle just below the climate controls.
Any thoughts of advice would be greatly welcomed!!!
Thanks!

Is it difficult to pop the panels off?
Not really.
To get to the back of the radio unit, it’s the same procedure like this one here on page 2 and 3:
http://www.handa-accessories.com/odyssey/05odyplayeratt.pdf
First, place something under the wheels to prevent your van from moving forward or reverse; you need shift the trans. lever to “N” position.
The upper compartment (above the glove box), if you open it up, there is a small notch in the panel, you can put a flat screwdriver in it.
The screwdriver size shouldn’t be too small, the tip should go in but the body must be larger then the notch.
Position the screwdriver pointing down 5~10 deg. toward the notch and give it a short, but a firm push in, just so the body of the screwdriver goes into the notch opening. This should force the panel to pop up from its clips. You may loose some of the spring clips as they may fall off it posts and go inside of the opening.
There are 3 wire connectors connected to the panel, I did remove 2 of them (from the passenger side) to move the panel away. You should disconnect the battery in order to prevent anything from shorting out. I think you’ll need the radio codes later if you do that .. .
After taking out those 3 screws, the whole radio unit comes out, disconnect the plug, plug it into the usaspec interface female(?) plug, and the male(?) plug from the same usaspec interface connectors cable plugs into the radio.
You must remember to take all CD’s out from the changer before doing so, CD #6 will work as the usaspec interface later.
I was hoping I could fit in one of the compartments in the center of the vehicle just below the climate controls.
You could do that, you'll see what I mean once you have the panel off. Mine went to the upper compartment because that’s where my Video source is going to be.

Here is the manual for the PA11-hon2y, you'll need to flip couple of dip switches depends on how you plan to use this interface.
Easy access to the switches after installation would be recommended.

That was great info and docs. The docs were better than anything that I had found so far. It also clearly stated that my internal cd play would continue to work, something that I had inferred from what I had read but never seen stated so clearly.
Thanks again!

I have not yet installed it. I am still doing the research. But your questions are very valid. Did you by anychance get answers for them.
Thanks

Thanks
The only thing to check would be the aftermarket DVD Player mounting holes on side, the one attaching DVD player to the bracket. They should be standard spacing, just not sure if Honda's stuff is standard.

I am planning to change the oem dvd drive. Any suggestion to replace it so that I can get mp3 / divx playback. Will the new drive be controlled by the control panel that sameway OEM drive is?
I just bought 07 EXL wRES and Nav. I been scrubbing internet to find best clean way to get auto charging iPod connection. It seems the consensus is to get a USA Spec PA11-HON iPod gizmo. Before I pull the trigger to buy this nifty item I wanted to get feedback by anyone with actual experience ...
1) is it true one can install a USASPEC iPod gizmo (on RES/Nav/XM models) by your self by gaining access to back of radio by pulling out the cup holder tray, as opposed to taking radio face dash pieces apart ?
2) I assume to overcome the cannot hear headphone issue the only fix is to get the suspected defective Honda dvd to headunit cable replaced. Does anyone have a service bulletin to help convince dealer to change this cable at no cost ? It appears some dealers will do this at no cost while others deny a problem.
3) is it recommended to have iPod final install in upper glove box, lower glove box, in cupholder (if feasible), or in compartment located under dc outlets ?
Thanks,
Angel
In your case, I think you need an adapter (Y splitter) since you have Navi/XM.
2) no clue. I don't have RES
3) I put it in th elittle middle cubby just below the radio (the one it the flip down cover, maybe 2 inches or so high). Easy to runt the wires, and the ipod fits in there nicely with the unit and the wires, so easy to hide it all away, and convenient when you want to get to it.
One thing I recommend is not having the unit itself mounted inside the dash (a shop might want to do it) There are some dip switches you can change for using the RCA jack input, and if you ever want to switch the way it is configured, you be screwed!
I have the box in the corner of th ecubby, and the ipod fits neatly next to it, and I even hae an older, full size ipod. A mini or Nano would be even easier.
I love the way this gizmo works.

I know that this topic has been discussed many times b4 in this forum..but still cudnt find a concise reply.
Here is my problem - I bought a 2007 EX-L/RES just 2 months ago..And so frustrated to see that I can play only CDs on the big, much hyped 6 CD-Changer. I dont have patience to burn 12 songs in each CD when I have a colleciton of 1200 songs.
I shopped around (Honda, Circuit City(CC), Best Buy(CC)) and everyone is refusing to add a simple MP3 CD player to this van. Though HMC says the XM/AUX port could be used to connect a external MP3/CD player...local dealer wudnt agree. CC & BB flatly refused that they cannot do anything for 07'Odyssey.
I asked them about the IPOD connection...Honda says that is not supported any more.
1) Is it possible to add MP3/CD player..any clues ?
2) After market IPOD connectors...will these allow to control the IPOD from the radio controls ?
Any help is appreciated
I have helped my son remove the BOSE system from his Acura and that little subwoofer doesn't do much at all. Most folks that really want good sound toss them. It's just a very small speaker with some porting, but in reality doesn't have much bass. Putting the BOSE name on it and saying it has a subwoofer means they can charge more than just using quality speakers in the first place.
I was going to swap all the stereo stuff right from the start....but here we are almost three years later with the same cruddy OEM speakers. The reason? We use this thing as a people hauler and really don't rock out much. Rarely have the volume turned up loud enough to even care about the sound quality, or the rear passengers are watching movies with the headsets on.
Cartoys has a great idea for subwoofer placement but its going to make changing your spare take a little more work. They build a custom wood cabinet and fit it next to your spare and add an 8" sub. This way you can still fold down seats without any problem. If you want great bass then add a Bazooka powered sub (easy to move) to your system and add (4) new 6 1/2 2 way speakers.
That should make it sound much better.
