I just bought an EX adn I am looking to purchase a DVD player (flip down). Does anyone have a recommendation of one to buy and also a place to install it. I went to Fry's today and a couple intrigued me but wanted to get some feedback. Also, what is the size of the player in the Odyssey that is factory installed?
Your deciding factor.......... Children. How many do you have?
If you have 1 or more then plan on putting a factory size (9") DVD screen on the ceiling (and unfortunatly behind you) so the kid(s) can watch. Plan on at least 250.00 for installation alone because Honda's are pesky to take apart and put back together again. If no kids then you have it made..... Put an Alpine or Kenwood screen inside the dash so you can watch your favorites in fabulous sound. Plan on 350.00 for the head unit and most of the time you can get a free install.
Clarion should work just fine. I would be careful when you spend 600.00 or more because installation is going to run at least 250.00 (or more). Have you thought of going with a dual DVD (7") screen set up that attaches to the back headrests? That would run you approx. 150.00 for the entire package and you can use it in any vehicle or inside the home. See Target. good luck
I was interested in when next generation 3rd Party iPod gizmo would be released for Honda Ody. I wrote the following not to usa spec mfg.
NOTE TO USA SPEC: I heard a lot of great things about your OEM MP3 Ipod conector products. I own a 2007 Honda Odyssey with Rear Entertainment System, XM Radio, and Navigation. I wanted to know what month the soon to be released USA spec model (PA12) for "Honda" will come out in 2007 or 2008. The model I am refereing is the PA12 version that will allow the user to see MP3 song file names on the Navigation screen.
MFG WROTE BACK: This product is planned but I can not tell you when it may released, I can tell you it is at least 4 months off.
I am definitely not a guru, but I'll take a shot at answering your questions. Yes, you can hook up an ipod to your OEM system and control your ipod through the regular controls, including the steering wheel controls. You need to buy an adapter, and one of the more popular ones is the USA Spec PA11-HON2y which you can check out at Crutchfield and there are lots of reviews:
When you buy it, Crutchfield also sends you a "MasterSheet" with installation instructions including large pictures. Here are some pictures of a DIY install from the odyclub forums:
Hello.... I have an 06 Honda Osyssey Touring edition, and I have had trouble finding an answer to my question: I want to add an I-pod interface (Honda Music Link for I-Pod), and add a Blue tooth from Parrot ck3100, no one has been able to tell me if I can hook up both of these components together, or if I am going to run into a connector problem, because my thought is that both of these may use the same connector to interface, and I may have to use a splitter? does anybody have any insight on this, or if its at all possible, I would like to know before I purchase these products. I did call but Crutchfield, where I plan on purchasing the Parrot blue-tooth, and they didnt know, I also called Bernardi's who I am planning on purchasing the I-Pod interface from, and they couldnt answer that question either, any help from anybody would be great.
For the parrot kit you will need to buy a special harness. quickconnectproducts has a product for the touring model. It's over 100 USD but it connects to the parrot unit and the factory stereo. For iPod I recommend the USASpec PA11-HON2Y. That one has the splitter. You will have to find this. These units will integrate the stereo. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the info.... I will inquire about these items, and if I run into more confusion, I will post another question, I will also post to let everybody know how it works out in the end.....
same question for '06 S Type Jaguar. Built in phone is not activated. Anyway to plug into existing phone system? I'm surmising that I have to give up CD player to put in IPOD access. thank you. goodman
I'm getting an '07 EX-L with no NAV or RES. If I get an iPod/AUX kit like the USASpec PA11-HON2Y, do I need to use the splitter in order to keep the factory CD changer?
Some audio head units like the Pioneer AVIC-D3 only has one disc slot which can be used for either GPS or CD/DVD at one time but not both. Is it possible to combine it with the CD changer that came with an '07 EX-L, keeping the CD changer?
Calisteel, I am also trying to burn DVD movies to DVD-R and try to play it in my 07 EXL NR but failed. Are you using the original DVD player that comes with the van? Would you elaborate on how you do that? Also you mentioned the .vob files, how to do that? Many thanks and your technical advice is appreciated.
hi guys, i am thinking about adding a dvd overhead player in my car. but someone in bestbuy says it is very difficult because of the sun roof. i am asking anyone who has done this or had experience with it to provide opinion. thanks in advance. thank you guys
I bought one with the built in RES but I did see many used Odyssey ex-l on dealer lot with aftermarket overhead dvd players. You may want to check for other installers in your area if best buy does not want to install it.
I was able to install an an over head monitor and an indash DVD Player (without removing the factory installed CD Player) successfully in Best Buy. Initially the guy told it might be difficult, but then he was able to do it successfully.
I have a Honda Odyessey 2007 EXL and was able to successfully install an over head DVD monitor and In-dash DVD Player. The DVD Player that we installed is JVC KD-AVX11 which has a small LCD display as well. It kind of nicely fits into the small pocket just under the climate controls and above the glove box. I bought the player attachement kit from Honda (P/N 08B06-SHJ-100) that has the trim and bracket needed. It looks great. I also bought the HON03/PC-SON 03-07 PIE adapter that connects the audio out from the JVC DVD player to the factory installed Radio auxilary input. Every thing works perfect. The guy in Best Buy installed it properly.
But now the question I have is , the JVC DVD Player has 4 Audio outs. 2 for Rear speakers and 2 for Front speakers. We were able to connect only 2 front speakers to the HON03/PC-SON 03-07 unit as it has only 2 RCA inputs. Does USASpec PA11-HON2Y unit has 4 audio inputs. If not is there any other product that can do that. Any help appriciated?
There are many ways to make dvd backups. Here is one way which works 100% on my '05 Ody factory RES unit:
-- AnyDVD from slysoft_dot_com to unlock commercially produced (Hollywood) dvds -- CloneDVD 2 from slysoft to copy and burn any unlocked (see above) dvd, or any portion (e.g. remove the nag screens and coming attractions)
These products aren't free, but there are other methods which are free which will work equally well. Nevertheless, I was happy to pay for these products (and in hindsight, I'm still happy I paid), because they are bulletproof and idiotproof. It's as simple as making toast and almost as fast -- and 100% reliable (at least in my experience).
Any suggestion on a good speakers to replace the factory speakers on a '07 EX-RES-NAV? I was thinking of just replacing the front speakers - I was concerned that replacing back speakers might break ANC? Thanks
Thanks stickguy. Did you install the USA Spec unit yourself or got an installer to do it for you, and if so how much should one expect to spend on installation? Someone on another forum tried installing a USA Spec unit on a different vehicle and it didn't work so I'm a bit concerned since I've never installed a car audio part before.
I had a local custom car sterop shop (I won't let one of the chain places like BB or CC touch my car) put it in. I had no desire to start dismantaling the dashboard.
Not sure exactly what I paid, since I also had new front speakers put in at the same time, but I think it was around $40. It really is a pretty simple job if you know what you are doing.
I had the unti put in the small cubby below the HVAC controls. You can also mount it behind the dash and just run wires, but there are some switches on the box to change the settings so I wanted access to it just in case. Also easier to change the RCA cable for the extra set of inputs.
It actually works perfectly in that little cubby. You can leave the ipod in with it and keep the door closed and no one would know it was there. No exposed wires either.

Could you please tell me what you ended up paying to have the after market DVD installed in your 07 EX-L. I am suppose to buy one by weeks end and am having much anxiety over RES or no RES. Its about $1550 more on the price, which equates to approx. $27 more a month for my 66 mo loan! If there is a huge difference with integration, sound, look, etc....then I will just get Factory. But if I am going to have problems and its still going to run around $1k, then why hassle with After market. Please, can someone help my dilemma. Thanks so much!!!! :confuse:
1. JVC KD-AVX11 Dvd player $230 from frys on thanks giving week end. 2. Overhead DVD Monitor $80 from cardomain.com 3. Trim and other accessrries needed to attach the player $50-$60 4. PIE adapter $50 5. Installation $220.
So around $600 to $650. The most important is to find an installer to install this. The BB installer was willing to try, but most of them are not. And the installation can be much more costilier as it varies from place to place.
We found the 5 digit code to reactivate the radio/DVD. It is on the underside of the fuse box lid. The fuse box is on the upper left hand side under the hood. Open the fuse box and look under the lid. It is the top 5 digit number. I don't know what the other code is for. Everything works again! :shades:
While there are other ripping products out there, this combination has proven rock solid. This is useful for making spare copies of your purchased DVD library -- keeping the originals safe at home.
You're kidding, right? I don't need any more morons driving down the road watching a movie. It's the drivers in front of you, and the pedestrians beside you, that your eyes should be on. Good grief -- I've seen so many twits driving while on the phone, reading books, and otherwise NOT watching the road. It's a lethal weapon you're sitting in, not your easy chair.
So, I have RES & NAV on my 07 Odyssey EXL, but is there any way I can activate or install bluetooth through the existing Nav. system? I don't see why I shouldn't be able to, since it has the voice activation. Help. Thanks!
Took delivery '07 EX-L Res+Nav back in May07 with XM 90-day trial period. Plan to let it expired in Aug07. Then got a $4.99/month + taxes for 3 months until Nov07. Again I planned to let it expired.
In Feb08, XM sent me a 5"x7" postcard "special come back offer": $4.99/month + taxes for 3 months ------OR---------- Get 1/2 off for a full year.
I took advantage of the latter sweet deal about $6.50/month + taxes (regular $12.95/month + taxes) for a full year. Re-activation was waived.
I was hoping someone could assist in selecting the best location for mounting a 10" flip down monitor in a 2006 Odyssey with sliding sun roof? I am hoping to avoid removing the entire head liner just to see what's there. It feels like there is a main beam just behind the roof opening. Any aadvice would be greatly appreciated.
I am on my second DVD player in my 2006 Odyssey. They both have this problem where if you watch a DVD and then turn off the car, sometimes when you turn it back on, the DVD plays the audio, but the DVD screen is black. My wife says she thinks it has something to do with if you switch to the radio and then go back to the DVD.
Has anyone had this trouble? If so, do you have a solution? My dealer has not been able to solve this yet.
We just got our 2006 Odyssey and I ran into the same "issue." Luckily, for me it was fixed with the push of a button. It is not all that intuitive (imo) but push the "Rear" button on your stereo console. That should activate the picture on your screen to coincide with the already playing audio.
I have a 05 Honda Odyssey, with a sliding sunroof. Just had a 15" Tview overhead DVD installed. Looks fine, but the sound coming out of the stereo speakers is distorted. Even if we find a "dead" radio station to pick up the DVD player, you can't understand what is being said in the movie. Installer is saying the only fix is to use IR headphones, and that doesn't sound right to me. Before I go back for a fight, I want to sound half way knowledgeable. On our factory stereo, we have the XM/AUX button, but do not have an XM radio. Can't the DVD sound be pushed through that button instead of searching for a dead radio station?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
How does the aftermarket dvd player you purchased deliver sound to the factory head unit? I would guess it's cabled in. If it is, the sound should be fantastic and you should not settle for the "use IR headphones" nonsense. Take it back and have the installer make it right. If it's not cabled in (if it's merely providing sound via an FM modulator that you tune to on the FM receiver of the headunit), then, frankly my dear, that's never going to work worth a cra¶.
Thanks for the update. I do not think it is cabled in. We asked about that and were told that the FM modulator was the only way to go. We'll insist on it being fixed correctly. Thanks for the tip. I really appreciate it.
I have an 07 exl, I added an amp and subwoofer. Everything done by the book. But the sub resonates when the car is iddling, with the doors close. as soon as you open any door on the van it stops. spoke to multiple audio dealers and no one has a clue. very anoying. Please help
Just bought our 2008 EX-L R&N today and love it. Only problem is that we have this periodic "mode restriction" problem that doesn't let the rear play CD's or XM1/XM2 from the front -- I'm going to take it back next week to have this fixed/replaced but wondered if anyone else has experienced this and knows root cause and/or fix. Thanks!

It shows that a CD changer may be connected by IP-BUS cable to a satellite tuner then to another satellite tuner then finally back to the head unit -- can the CD changer be connected directly to the head unit by this IP-BUS cable?
The AUX port on your radio is empty, and the unit plugs right into that. Since factory XM uses the same port, if you have that, you need the splitter.
It isn't the RES or NAV that casues the problem, it's the factory XM set up.
