I want to be able to add an additional small LCD screen to the system so the front seat passenger can see what's on the screen. So many DVDs require additional steps besides PLAY to start correctly. With DVDs having musical animated menu screens, the menu screen will be on, playing the theme music, etc - we think the video has started while the 2-year-old is just staring at the menu screen getting frustrated.
Thanks!
I went to a Circuit City and was looking at an Audiovox VOD806 unit -- but the installation folks told me that I COULD NOT use a non-Honda overhead DVD unit in the 2003 Odyssey. They said that the Honda RES unit and the i-VES system came with some sort of bracket support and that non-Honda units could not be used in the Odyssey. They also said something about the type of headliner the Odyssey has in it. I think it was bull, but am not sure. They were stearing me toward some headrest units.
IS THIS TRUE?????
I took a look at the installation directions for the Honda i-VES. Yikes...not something an amateur should attempt, imo.
As for the AudioVox unit, all I could find out about it was that it fits in "most" makes/models. So it's possible the Circuit City people were not feeding you a line.
Thank you
I recently purchased Odyssey EX 2003 model. It comes with CD only (standard). I want to know if I can install dual din deck in place of CD. Following is link of two things which I'm looking at.
1) http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&catoid=-886- 4&qp=0376841154121&oid=50121&index=0

I've second one in my Nissan and it works nice.
thanks

You are correct. After using steering wheel mounted controls I've started feeling so used to with it that I personally miss it on my Nissan. I was looking at Kenwood Dual Din player but at present I think I'll give priority to good DVD system in my car compared to deck. Any suggestions ?
thanks

Can we install my custom dual 9" flip LCD screen with DVD in new 2003/2004 Honda Odyssey?
Has any one done it on their 2003 Oddy?
The dealer price is so high. In addition, they only furnish single screen display with 7" screen for $1500.
I would rather buy one 9" AudiVoX LCD w/DVD and another 15" LCD TV/Montitor for $2000 and get it installed for my new 2004 EX-L.
Can I do this w/o voiding the warranty?
Any suggestions?
A: Take your pick:

Personally, I like the Alpine CDA 9830. Will you be able to control the volume from your steering wheel? I don’t think so.
If you are looking for a Honda factory radio (which is most likely made by Alpine*) that plays MP3s, I don’t think that there are any yet.
* (From the FAQ section at Alpine) Is my Honda radio made by Alpine?.
Alpine provides car audio, security and navigation systems for various car manufacturers such as Honda, Acura, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Jaguar as the original equipment manufacturer (O.E.M.). Please refer to your vehicles factory authorized dealer.
Q: My factory radio/cd unit gives me an E-00 when playing the CD's. It works okay if the unit has not warmed up, but gives the error and won't play any CD's once it has been working for about 5 - 10 minutes. I'm looking to replace the unit with an after-market radio/cd with steering wheel remote controls. How difficult and what are the steps to removing and replacing the unit? The dealership wants $250 to remove it and send it in for analysis. Also a factory replacement is $500.
Any information would help.
Thanks.
A: Just take it out yourself and put in a new Honda radio / CD player, will cost just $204 + shipping and maybe tax: http://www.handa-accessories.com/odyelec02.html
Unless the problem isn't with the radio, of course...
Can you do it yourself? Sure, here are the installation steps (assuming you have an ’03 , there are different instructions for the ’02 and before).

Q: Does anybody have any ideas on an aftermarket radio that will use the existing remote wire harness?
A: Just buy a new harness, won't cost more than $15 or so. With the new harness you will be plugging it into a plug coming from the van, no cutting / splicing of the van's wires. You will apparently lose the ability to change the volume from the steering wheel, though.
Q: have a 2000 Odyssey with an in dash 6 disc CD player. We are looking to trade it in for a 2003 LX or EX Odyssey. Can I switch the CD player from the 2000 Odyssey to 2003 Odyssey? Also can I do this switch if I get the RES DVD player? Finally am I correct in thinking that the DVD entertainment system can be added to the LX version?
A: Can it be moved to the 2003? Sure, why not? I believe that adding the DVD system to the LX is no problem, will cost you about $1,400 for the parts if you do the install yourself. If you go to a dealer you will be charged ~ $1,700 for the parts, plus labor. See the link above for an example of a place selling it for $1,400 (plus you can see the installation instructions there).
I've got a 2000 EX with CD/Cass, but no TV/VCR/DVD. Recently purchased a VCR/TV combo ( 13" screen) and it sits between the 2 front seats. Does anyone know of an aftermarket wireless headset solutions I can look at/purchase that can be utlized by the VCR/Tv combo but still work inside the Ody???
thanks,
alex in Atlanta
I'm sure you know there are wireless headphones available from Best Buy that work very well with TVs. I use them at home all the time and can walk outside even w/ continued good sound. My favorite kind use "real" disposable batteries (AA) and don't require a recharging stand, but the transmitting base does need to be plugged into a normal electrical outlet. I guess that wasn't much help, sorry. But could you still answer my questions because I am really attracted to the large screen, the portability (use it in the hotel that never has a DVD or a gaming port) and the ease of upgrading to better equipment without buying a new car. THANKS!
2. Can you control the RES from the dash or only from the rear?
We just brought home child #3 and have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 05 Ody b/c we currently have all three kids squished like sardines in the back of our Accord. We are on a waiting list and we "guessed" for the dealer to allocate a RES/NAV Touring for us, but will probably change trim levels to the EX as we are reading that the Touring will not offer the pop up 8th seat. We would prefer cloth seats, but that doesn't seem to be available in combo w/ the RES or RES/NAV. So do I get the EX cloth w/ an aftermarket DVD or Honda installed option? or do the benefits of factory RES or RES+NAV (w/ leather) outweigh my desire for cloth seats? (it's hot and humid here in FL and I very much dislike sticking to the seats...)
3. What are the benefits of having RES factory-installed vs. after-market?
Thanks for your input!
Farenheit DVD-63T http://www.thecarstereo.com/product/product_view.php?product=PRDV- 02106 would work with the stock CD head unit of a 2004 Odyssey? I am looking to install the DVD player in the opening under the CD/Radio and have the sound possibly go through the speakers or through a set or wireless headphones.
1. Replace Factory single disc receiver with Alpine or Kenwood unit and add an IPod (Alpine) or Music Keg (Alpine). I could still use the steering wheel controls, but would have to add a transmitter kit.
2. Install a Dension IceLink connecter that allows an iPod to be connected directly to Factory Honda radio. Costs about $220. Connects up to CD changer connector in back of radio.
Anyone have any other ideas?
I assume the 2005 Ody only comes with two headphones and I need four. I would prefer OEM but I could not find them on the Honda website.

Here's a dealer who is selling accessories online. You can give them a try.

I hear the FM modulated is crap so I guess thats not an option.
they have an HOnda Xm radio that installs under the drivers seat
Thanks,
We have a Touring 2005 (has moonroof) and had a 9" Sony all-in-one DVD system installed for total of $900. It's silver and blends in amazingly well with our grey headliner. It's an excellent system that offers three ways to hear the sound: through built-in speakers (volume control is on the remote), through car stereo via FM modulator, and through included wireless headphones. We're very happy with it. It's much better than Audiovox system we had in our previous van.
One great feature of the Sony system is that you can turn the screen around completely.
A similar system people put in Ody's is Panasonic 9" all-in-one. It's about a $100 cheaper than Sony, but I don't like it as well. This one is black, so it will not look as good in the Ody. It has no built-in speakers and does not come standard with FM modulator, although a regular FM modulator works fine with it.
Thanks,

Yes, there is now an after-market adapter that allows installers to tap into the proprietary connector on the back of Odyssey's stereo. I believe the cost for the adapter is in the $50-70 range.
That was me as well. Moonroof does make it harder, but not at all impossible. We had Sony system installed; on different board couple people had Panasonic units installed in their 2005 Odys with moonroof. In order to do this the installer used a board in all cases. First they mount the board to the crossbeams in the roof, then they mount the unit to the board.
I had my install done at a small local shop, which wouldn't help you, unless you live in DC area. But the other installations I read about were done at Circuit City. They carry both the Sony and the Panasonic units and have reasonable prices.
Good luck.
I bought the 2005 EX and it said XM ready.
My limited research has the Honda Dealership making My XM ready to XM Operational for $608.
Is there a smarter (cheaper) way?
Is that roughly what you found out.
The reason I'm saying this is because XM is not for everyone. There's a lot to like, but there's a lot to hate too, like bargain-bin songs selection, inconsistent quality and volume accross channels, etc.

I've close on getting sirius installed in an aftermarket product from Best Buy.
I talked to the installer and they said I could easily put in a unit in the compartment under the A/C controls and above the Cup holder and
String the atennea to the center of the back of the vehicle.
My decision was based upon $$$$$$.
$170 for the unit, $50 for the installation, and $500 for a lifetime subscription.
For $720 my vehicle will have Sat Radio for life.
Vs $608 for just installation of a XM from the dealer.
Does anyone have a better solution?
I did want XM but sirius has the best deal at this time.
The 500 for life of unit deal last until June 30th so I am waiting until than for something to change my mind and/or better deals on service and equipment.
