The same thing happened to my CD. Kept giving me the E-00 error. I took it in and they said $250 to send it out to have it repaired. I have the Honda Care Warranty and with that they replaced the unit with a remanufactured unit at no cost. The warrenty is slowly paying for itself. Good luck.

I'm trying to replace the cd/radio in my 2000 EX. I want to retain the functionality of my factory steering wheel audio controls. The vendors I have talked to (including Crutchfield) have told me that I can use an aftermarket infrared sensor adaptor to a new CD/Radio. This solution seems sub-optimum to me, since the existing factory unit utilizes a hard wired system between steering wheel and radio. Does anybody have any ideas on an aftermarket radio that will use the existing remote wire harness?

Does anyone know anything about taping into the video signal from the factory RES (rear entertainment system)? I know I can feed a VCR or PS2 into the system by the in jacks, but how about getting the signal OUT on its way to the built in monitor?
I want to be able to add an additional small LCD screen to the system so the front seat passenger can see what's on the screen. So many DVDs require additional steps besides PLAY to start correctly. With DVDs having musical animated menu screens, the menu screen will be on, playing the theme music, etc - we think the video has started while the 2-year-old is just staring at the menu screen getting frustrated.
    Thanks!

I am considering the installation of an i-VES Honda DVD system on my Odyssey. However, I have some questions. I can get the system for hundreds less from www.handaaccessories.com -- however, I would like to have my local dealer do the install. Can a local Honda dealer refuse to do the install on a Honda accessory purchased from another dealer? Also, for anyone who has had this done, how much did installation cost?

I went to a Circuit City and was looking at an Audiovox VOD806 unit -- but the installation folks told me that I COULD NOT use a non-Honda overhead DVD unit in the 2003 Odyssey. They said that the Honda RES unit and the i-VES system came with some sort of bracket support and that non-Honda units could not be used in the Odyssey. They also said something about the type of headliner the Odyssey has in it. I think it was bull, but am not sure. They were stearing me toward some headrest units.

    IS THIS TRUE?????

Have you contacted your Honda dealer and asked if they would do an accessory install if you didn't purchase the item from them? I would imagine they would, but it's probably a management decision. As for cost, it should be whatever they usually charge for labor on an installation. However, they might possibly try to up the labor if you haven't purchased the accessory from them?

I took a look at the installation directions for the Honda i-VES. Yikes...not something an amateur should attempt, imo.

As for the AudioVox unit, all I could find out about it was that it fits in "most" makes/models. So it's possible the Circuit City people were not feeding you a line.

With the price of 15" LCD Screens w/speakers falling and an abundance of portable VCR and DVD players...have any of you thought of "building" you own system? It appears that most LCD screens need 12 volts to be powered and most require a maximum of 3 amps.

I am looking to have an aftermarket CD/MP3 player installed in my 2000 Odyssey EX. I was thinking about having a steering wheel control interface installed as well, so I can still control the reciever using my steering wheel controls. Has anyone had one installed? How does it work?

I have a 2000 Odyssey with an in dash 6 disc CD player. We are looking to trade it in for a 2003 LX or EX Odyssey. Can I switch the CD player from the 2000 Odyssey to 2003 Odyssey? Also can I do this switch if I get the RES DVD player? Finally am I correct in thinking that the DVD entertainment system can be added to the LX version?

    Thank you

    Hello All,

I recently purchased Odyssey EX 2003 model. It comes with CD only (standard). I want to know if I can install dual din deck in place of CD. Following is link of two things which I'm looking at.
    1) http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&catoid=-886- 4&qp=0376841154121&oid=50121&index=0

    2) http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=DPXMP4030

I've second one in my Nissan and it works nice.

    thanks

Has anybody purchased an aftermarket CD or CD/MP3 player for their post-'99 Odyssey LX yet (came standard with receiver/tape deck only)? If so, would you provide the brand, model no., and opinions?
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
You can add the Honda cassette deck (I think that is what you are asking) in the slot below the OEM radio/CD head unit. If you change the whole head, you loose the steering wheel mounted controls (which I like a lot...).

    Steve,

You are correct. After using steering wheel mounted controls I've started feeling so used to with it that I personally miss it on my Nissan. I was looking at Kenwood Dual Din player but at present I think I'll give priority to good DVD system in my car compared to deck. Any suggestions ?

    thanks

    or 2004 models?

Can we install my custom dual 9" flip LCD screen with DVD in new 2003/2004 Honda Odyssey?

Has any one done it on their 2003 Oddy?

The dealer price is so high. In addition, they only furnish single screen display with 7" screen for $1500.

I would rather buy one 9" AudiVoX LCD w/DVD and another 15" LCD TV/Montitor for $2000 and get it installed for my new 2004 EX-L.

Can I do this w/o voiding the warranty?
    Any suggestions?

Q: We have a 1999 Odyssey EX with the CD player (no Cassette). Are there any replacement units that will play MP3 files? Would this replacement (if it exists) be easy for the DIYer or best left to the professionals?

    A: Take your pick:

    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-b8KUHAhh9zr/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?c=- - 3&s=0&cc=01&g=62700

Personally, I like the Alpine CDA 9830. Will you be able to control the volume from your steering wheel? I don’t think so.

If you are looking for a Honda factory radio (which is most likely made by Alpine*) that plays MP3s, I don’t think that there are any yet.

    * (From the FAQ section at Alpine) Is my Honda radio made by Alpine?.

Alpine provides car audio, security and navigation systems for various car manufacturers such as Honda, Acura, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Jaguar as the original equipment manufacturer (O.E.M.). Please refer to your vehicles factory authorized dealer.

Q: My factory radio/cd unit gives me an E-00 when playing the CD's. It works okay if the unit has not warmed up, but gives the error and won't play any CD's once it has been working for about 5 - 10 minutes. I'm looking to replace the unit with an after-market radio/cd with steering wheel remote controls. How difficult and what are the steps to removing and replacing the unit? The dealership wants $250 to remove it and send it in for analysis. Also a factory replacement is $500.
    Any information would help.
    Thanks.

A: Just take it out yourself and put in a new Honda radio / CD player, will cost just $204 + shipping and maybe tax: http://www.handa-accessories.com/odyelec02.html

Unless the problem isn't with the radio, of course...

Can you do it yourself? Sure, here are the installation steps (assuming you have an ’03 , there are different instructions for the ’02 and before).

    http://www.handa-accessories.com/odyssey/03odycd.pdf

Q: Does anybody have any ideas on an aftermarket radio that will use the existing remote wire harness?

A: Just buy a new harness, won't cost more than $15 or so. With the new harness you will be plugging it into a plug coming from the van, no cutting / splicing of the van's wires. You will apparently lose the ability to change the volume from the steering wheel, though.

Q: have a 2000 Odyssey with an in dash 6 disc CD player.

A: Can it be moved to the 2003? Sure, why not? I believe that adding the DVD system to the LX is no problem, will cost you about $1,400 for the parts if you do the install yourself. If you go to a dealer you will be charged ~ $1,700 for the parts, plus labor. See the link above for an example of a place selling it for $1,400 (plus you can see the installation instructions there).

Does anyone know how to change the "screen saver" display on the Navigation screen? As it stands now, if I do not start the navigation system, the screen defaults to a star pattern and a clock. Is it possible to copy the DVD on a DVD burner and change the star file to some other photo?

    HELP!!!

I've got a 2000 EX with CD/Cass, but no TV/VCR/DVD. Recently purchased a VCR/TV combo ( 13" screen) and it sits between the 2 front seats. Does anyone know of an aftermarket wireless headset solutions I can look at/purchase that can be utlized by the VCR/Tv combo but still work inside the Ody???

    thanks,
    alex in Atlanta
  • texasmomtexasmom Member Posts: 114
I wish I were answering your question, but am actually asking you a different one. Where did you get your between the seats outfit? Do you mean saying what it cost? Also, are you at all worried about the safety factor with it not being an integral part of the interior?
I'm sure you know there are wireless headphones available from Best Buy that work very well with TVs. I use them at home all the time and can walk outside even w/ continued good sound. My favorite kind use "real" disposable batteries (AA) and don't require a recharging stand, but the transmitting base does need to be plugged into a normal electrical outlet. I guess that wasn't much help, sorry. But could you still answer my questions because I am really attracted to the large screen, the portability (use it in the hotel that never has a DVD or a gaming port) and the ease of upgrading to better equipment without buying a new car. THANKS!

I have received E00 message on some disks in 6 disc CD changer. Will not reset and fear I will have to take back to auto repair service again....last repair was $270 but now over 1 year warranty...anyone have a process that works with Honda central or Honda-Accessories.com, our sponsor in this forum?

    1. Does having NAV enhance having RES in any way? or is NAV just nice to have for mapping purposes? (the 05 is the 1st model yr to offer both)
    2. Can you control the RES from the dash or only from the rear?

We just brought home child #3 and have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 05 Ody b/c we currently have all three kids squished like sardines in the back of our Accord. We are on a waiting list and we "guessed" for the dealer to allocate a RES/NAV Touring for us, but will probably change trim levels to the EX as we are reading that the Touring will not offer the pop up 8th seat. We would prefer cloth seats, but that doesn't seem to be available in combo w/ the RES or RES/NAV. So do I get the EX cloth w/ an aftermarket DVD or Honda installed option? or do the benefits of factory RES or RES+NAV (w/ leather) outweigh my desire for cloth seats? (it's hot and humid here in FL and I very much dislike sticking to the seats...)

    3. What are the benefits of having RES factory-installed vs. after-market?

    Thanks for your input!

Does anyone know if In-Dash DVD, MP3, CD, CDR,CDRW Player with TV Tuner
Farenheit DVD-63T http://www.thecarstereo.com/product/product_view.php?product=PRDV- 02106 would work with the stock CD head unit of a 2004 Odyssey? I am looking to install the DVD player in the opening under the CD/Radio and have the sound possibly go through the speakers or through a set or wireless headphones.

I want to add a hard drive type system with 20 to 40 Gb of storage instead of 6 disc changer to my Odyssey. Here are the solutions I've found.

    1. Replace Factory single disc receiver with Alpine or Kenwood unit and add an IPod (Alpine) or Music Keg (Alpine). I could still use the steering wheel controls, but would have to add a transmitter kit.

    2. Install a Dension IceLink connecter that allows an iPod to be connected directly to Factory Honda radio. Costs about $220. Connects up to CD changer connector in back of radio.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

Does anybody know where to get extra wireless headphones for the 2005 Ody DVD Rear Entertainment System?

I assume the 2005 Ody only comes with two headphones and I need four. I would prefer OEM but I could not find them on the Honda website.
  • ezuckerezucker Member Posts: 34
I've read on one of the other forums that any infrared wireless headphone will work and that you can pick one up at places like Best Buy. I need to buy a third one, and so I'll be looking there.

Yes, 2005 Ody only comes with 2 headphones. I believe you can get more at your local Honda dealer.

Here's a dealer who is selling accessories online. You can give them a try.

Any way I can connect my new Honda Oddessey EX-L to XM using the AUM/XM ready button? What do I need to do, if you could be specific?

I hear the FM modulated is crap so I guess thats not an option.

You'll find some information in the "DVD/Entertainment Systems" forum.

We have a Touring 2005 (has moonroof) and had a 9" Sony all-in-one DVD system installed for total of $900. It's silver and blends in amazingly well with our grey headliner. It's an excellent system that offers three ways to hear the sound: through built-in speakers (volume control is on the remote), through car stereo via FM modulator, and through included wireless headphones. We're very happy with it. It's much better than Audiovox system we had in our previous van.

One great feature of the Sony system is that you can turn the screen around completely.

A similar system people put in Ody's is Panasonic 9" all-in-one. It's about a $100 cheaper than Sony, but I don't like it as well. This one is black, so it will not look as good in the Ody. It has no built-in speakers and does not come standard with FM modulator, although a regular FM modulator works fine with it.

Thanks for the reply and valuable information. Does this unit (Sony MV-900 SDS-9") capable of being connected to a game unit (Game Cube)?

    Thanks,

  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652
Yes, it has one or two standard RCA audio/video inputs in the back (the side that's facing the front of the vehicle. They are covered by removable plastic doors. Every system on the market has this feature, by the way.
  • mlrmlr Member Posts: 3
I have a 2005 Odyssey EX. Did the installers have any problems connecting the FM modulator to your Odyssey's audio system? I had an Audiovox console installed yesterday (w/ the Audiovox FM modulator)and they (CircuitCity) couldn't connect it to the stereo system. They said that the setup in place to support the XM radio as well as regular AM/FM had a proprietary connector and a hookup they hadn't seen before. They said I need some time of adapter to go from the Odyssey stereo to the FM modulator. I'm going to check with Honda tomorrow to see if they have ideas on how to fix the problem or recommended FM modulators. Thanks. mlr.
  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652
I don't know how my installer did it, but they did it. It's possible that they spliced directly into the FM antenna. I think the FM reception is worse now, but we never listen to radio anyway.

Yes, there is now an after-market adapter that allows installers to tap into the proprietary connector on the back of Odyssey's stereo. I believe the cost for the adapter is in the $50-70 range.

We just bought a Touring 2005 and want to install the dvd system, and we are trying to figure out where to go for installation. We are either being told it can't be done because of the moon roof, or alternately being quoted high prices. Who did your installation? I read another message that someone had to have their installation re-done, because it was put back too far the first time. We want someone who knows what they are doing.
  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652

That was me as well. Moonroof does make it harder, but not at all impossible. We had Sony system installed; on different board couple people had Panasonic units installed in their 2005 Odys with moonroof. In order to do this the installer used a board in all cases. First they mount the board to the crossbeams in the roof, then they mount the unit to the board.

I had my install done at a small local shop, which wouldn't help you, unless you live in DC area. But the other installations I read about were done at Circuit City. They carry both the Sony and the Panasonic units and have reasonable prices.

    Good luck.

I found a post on the DVD/Entertainment Systems Board that mentioned a Visteon dvd system that was installed by the dealer. In checking the Visteon web site, I found that Visteon supplies Honda dealers with a complete kit designed to fit Honda Pilot and Odyssey, which includes the FM modulator and all other necessary components.
  • mlrmlr Member Posts: 3
    Thanks. I'll check into it.

Staneq (ANYONE)did you get XM installed in your Odyssey.

I bought the 2005 EX and it said XM ready.

My limited research has the Honda Dealership making My XM ready to XM Operational for $608.

Is there a smarter (cheaper) way?

Is that roughly what you found out.
  • ericbroericbro Member Posts: 9
I am wondering the same thing. We just got a touring model today without the Nav and the dealer told us $1000 for the XM. Even $608 sounds a little steep.

Hi. I am thinking of trading my Volvo wagon for a Honda Oddy '05 (3 boys). The deal breaker in September was that the RES shuts off all other entertainment for the driver. Is this true? I can't imagine driving 3 hours in silence beacuse the kidlets are watching a much needed DVD! Please advise. I won't do a Sienna!!
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
The previous version allowed for that. I couldn't see the 05 not doing so.
  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652
I highly recommend you get one of XM's portable devices that cost about a $100 and come with car kit first. If you like XM after a month or so, invest in the Honda equipment. If you don't, you can cancel service and sell the device on E-bay. Your total loss will likely not exceed $40-50.

The reason I'm saying this is because XM is not for everyone. There's a lot to like, but there's a lot to hate too, like bargain-bin songs selection, inconsistent quality and volume accross channels, etc.

I just bought a 2005 Touring model...no nav or DVD. I want to put in XM with out going for a fortune. The radio is XM "Ready" but Best Buy said they need to know the manufacturer of the radio to use the correct connectors. Does anyone know who makes this radio?

  • pnediazpnediaz Member Posts: 3
Ericbro, did you find a solution to the XM.

I've close on getting sirius installed in an aftermarket product from Best Buy.

I talked to the installer and they said I could easily put in a unit in the compartment under the A/C controls and above the Cup holder and
String the atennea to the center of the back of the vehicle.

My decision was based upon $$$$$$.

$170 for the unit, $50 for the installation, and $500 for a lifetime subscription.

For $720 my vehicle will have Sat Radio for life.
Vs $608 for just installation of a XM from the dealer.

Does anyone have a better solution?
I did want XM but sirius has the best deal at this time.

The 500 for life of unit deal last until June 30th so I am waiting until than for something to change my mind and/or better deals on service and equipment.

I had the same problem '05 Odyssey Touring. Maybe by now you've already got yours. I wanted the Sony 9", Best Buy couldn't do it. We started looking all over, we finally ended up at Fry's electronic in Sacramento. I was a lil hesitant, but the sales and install did a great job. We ended up w/ 2 JVC9" monitors w/ 1 blaupunkt DVD player and we've installed our PS2 as well, so both monitors could play movies (PS2 could play movies) and both monitors could play games. We had a great experience at Fry's. We made the purchase and install on the same day. Best Buy scheduled us 3wks out only to say that they could not do it.
