    Sweet, mike.

Did you actually pop-rivet a metal plate to cover the moonroof opening? That's so ghetto, I love it! :D

It's funny to see the dash - so straight forward that even 13 years later it's purely functional.

Yes it's required to cover the opening from where the moon roof was for safety reasons. It actually is a lot better than some of the roof-plugs I've seen out there. Silicone and then aluminum popped on. Now if we can figure out the mechanical issues we'd be in great shape!

you'll notice only some of the dash is there, the dash-bar that we had to install goes right through the middle of the dash you can see it behind the left-passenger vent.

I'm sure the aluminum saves you a *lot* of weight compared to all that glass plus the entire mechanism to open/close it.

Yup, the unit is sitting at the shop, between the glass and the motor (which is mounted high) we saved probably 75-100lbs.

It's former owner would be crying if he saw it now, a beautiful mint rare car destroyed IMHO.

    Cheers Pat.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
It's not destroyed, the car had come to the end of it's usefulness as a street car with over 150k on it, the AC wasn't working, and some other issues like a leaky roof etc made it not able to perform it's day to day duties as a daily driver. So rather than sell it for like $1500 why not bring it to the greatness of standing proudly on the podium showing what a "lesser" car can do?

The great part is that when the windows are up, since they are tinted, the car looks nearly stock from the outside. So people dismiss it until it goes out in the RACE group rather than the HPDE group!

The former owner is actually on this board! Heck if we get good enough, and travel down to TX, he may even take it out on the track!

I don't think they were rare, not really. It's not like they're a collectible.

I'd cringe if it were an SVX, maybe.

That Legacy has lived its useful life on the streets, and is now getting a 2nd life on the track. That's the way I see it.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Actually it's rarer than the SVX. There are only about 2000 or so 5MT Sport Sedans made v. many more SVXs.

juice, I am surprised that a diehard car enthusiest such as you would consider that a car has to be a collectible before it would be worth preserving. To me any rare car would be worth preserving. Like Paisan says the Legacy Turbo 5MT was rare to begin with, and Paisan has one of the rarest of all, an origional rustfree example.

    Cheers Pat.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
However in that vain, the turbo legacy was built specifically for racing, this was the first 555 Rally car that Subaru campaigned and essentially brought them to where they are today with WRC, so having it live on as a race car, is not a bad thing IMO. We are trying to keep it as stock-looking as possible and even the drivetrain is 99% stock on it.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I guess I didn't realize it was so rare.

It was underappreciated even when it was new. I guess it will remain a footnote in history that few even know about.

It wouldn't have stayed rust-free for long, given all the salt they pour on the roads in the NE.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
This is true about the salt. Lucky for it, now it will never see snow or ice or salt, unless we start to rally it :)

I think it will give it an extended life since it will only be used for racing now and should last a bit longer only doing light duty. I am also keeping it registered so that we can take it to meets and what not.

yes, sadly, there is no sense keeping it now the Camry is here. I picked up a set of goldies for a god price; the SSR Comps are too valuable to include with the car. So here is she is in "For Sale" livery. She's been a good car, and I'm going to miss her.

Loosh, did you sell the car yet?...I've always wanted a set of the gold '98 wheels..lmk...Serge
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
haven't sold it yet. The wheels would need to be repainted if they were going to be "summer" rims. They have some curbage. My original plan was to refurb them and use them for winter; since our winters are not terribly harsh, it isn't hard to keep a good looking set of winter rims clean and attractive. Then along came the company car, so I have pulled the SSRs off.

and can anyone explain to me the point of hosting photos on CarSpace? the links don't work half the time, and the pics don't show up the other half.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I see the pic just fine.

If my daughter were 10 years older you'd have a buyer. Looks pretty clean.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
I'm not happy about letting it go, but it doesn't make a lot of monetary sense to keep it. As for the pics, I am having a heck of a time getting them to show on nabisco. They show up as truncated links. Even here, the "embed image" copy-paste automatically defaulted to a general link to Carspace. The only reason you can see them is because I went in and edited the link down to just the pics, and then it posted ok (i.e., cut out the border and carspace logo tags)

Cool you should be able to get that much for it.

Why not keep it as a track car? I have some nice coilovers you could slap in there....

  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
well, I thought about that. Or as a winter car. But we had a LOT of expenses this summer, expenses that way outstripped our income. The result is that we've got some hefty credit debt. Manageable in monthly terms, but unacceptable to us personally. So we've decided to sell the car and put the proceeds toward that.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    You're doing the right thing.

Hang in there, it'll get better soon.
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
Darn. If you weren't 3000 miles from me, I'd be looking at it for my soon-to-be 16 year old. Sent the link to mom & the kid anyway.

    (Pondering a road trip...) :)

    Cheers!

So far I've got one low-ball offer and 2 nibbles. The lowballer says he needs an answer fast, so I'm afraid the answer may have to be "cool yer jets."

Hold firm. It's not hard to sell a Subie.

First person that drove my Forester bought it, and paid full asking price at that.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,701
Yeah, at the price you are asking, there is no reason to go any lower. Were I not days away from a child, I would be half tempted to hop a plane to Baltimore and take it off your hands! :P

So I guess I will :shades:

    I don't own a Subie, but I'm a fan.

Is the Legacy behind it the same color? Or slightly darker?
  • rob_mrob_m Member Posts: 820
Juice, the legacy is #5, my 2005 Atlantic Blue GT LTD.
