But seriously, what brand is this and how will it compete with the Protege?

'Rex' should only be reserved for when referring to Rotary EXperimental (aka RX) vehicles!!!!!!
call it WRX!!!!! >:0
This summer's drink is still frozen, fresh fruit Dacquiri's and Margarita's. You just can't beat them for quenching thirst and coolig you down on a hot summer day. I also like my beer and red wine too.
I'll take a pass on the CD changer as I'm pretty skint at the moment. I just had to pay for the boat going in the water and that is always a nice little lump sum to pay at this time of year. Fully worth it though. Also, we're going back to England for a couple of weeks and that doesn't help our financial situation much either...
How's your Pro been doing? Are you still workin' out of Consillium?

I'm actually doing a big project for your Mobility "Pre-paid" side of the house. It's been, uh, interesting. Good to hear you are still gainfully employed.

Aaaah!!! Too many wonderful cars (6 hatch/wagon, 3 wagon, RX-8) and too little money and garage space.
Giddy up

Fuel Consumption: 8.86L/100kms!!!
This is the BEST mielage I got out of the PRO in the last 6+ mths!!! I am thrilled! Yes it was winter before and the AC was on to defog and etc... BUT 8.86@130km/h is great!
It might not seem so good to many that have always gotten good mileage, but this is the best fuel consumption I've had in a LONG while.

The 2000 ES 5-speed managed to rack up a total of 342 miles on the first tankful, and I only had to put 10.3 gallons back in 'im for a total of 33.2 mpg ... a new Zoomster record!!!
Meade
P.S. Anyone who drinks daiquiris ... well, you can spell the drink however you want ...
But I found them a little 'bumpy' in town (the roads are very bad here in Quebec city). Do you have the same feeling on your car? What psi are you're running (I'm running 32 psi front and back)?
Thanks,
Pierre
BTW, I participated in the Mazda Rev It Up thing at Texas Motor Speedway yesterday. It was pretty fun and I'm definitely glad to finally find out what that sort of thing is like (autocross). When we left at around 3:00 I had the top score for the weekend in the Novice group, but I don't know if that held up. Waiting for the final results to be posted at the official website.
Bumpy as in like rubber mounts?
I think it is better than sending stiff shocks into the car frame...It will make the car body last longer..no rattles.
Required content: there are lots of Proteges around that area.
Send me an e-mail if/when you have specific dates.
Mark. : )
*waits patiently for the arrival of the RENESIS **grin***
I was hoping to check out some of the tuner places out there too, I'll have to start looking on the net soon. Racing Beat is out there right? I'll send you an e-mail tommorow from work.
Congrats Glidescope!
If you are going to be in LA, check out the Petersen Automotive Museum; definitely worth a visit.
After the last MAPP (last October), seeing the loud and belligerent behavior of many members of the group result in unsavory comments from park patrons, admonishments by the park rangers and summoning of the state police, I see future MAPPs heading this way as they continue to grow.
Sad that a bunch of car enthusiasts can't act their age.

Now if you would just let our irresponsible Protege-driving brethren use the name MAPP, we could hold you liable for everything bad that goes wrong the next time everyone gathers together.
Have you put any more thought into what tires to get for the P5? I am hoping someone tries out the Toyo TPTs soon, so I can get a good review of them before I have to buy. At 5000 miles, my P5 has 8/32" of tread left. Assuming uniform treadwear (big assumption with Dunlop), I should be able to get to 20,000 miles with these tires. At my current rate of travel, I should get there in about 18 months from now.
Or is that apathy.
Well, one of those -y words at least.
Or at the very least they never, ever thought that organizing such an event just *might* require a little WORK. ;-)
I take my compliments however I can get them ...
Meade
out of 40,000 attendees there were only 170+ tickets (and most of them are meaningless 'you have illegal taillight' BS tickets) and a comparatively small number of misdemeanors (ie 'Girls Gone Wild'-like shenanigans), but that's all it will take for a small farm town like Carlisle to reject future hosting of this show...
but fear not, there are more than enough other events of this sort to fulfill these guys' Fast 'n Furious fantasies.
btw I ended up not going anywhere this past weekend, got really sick and had a 101 degree fever on Saturday...
Yep, them cops is just out to get people.
Meade
P.S.:
"but fear not, there are more than enough other events of this sort to fulfill these guys' Fast 'n Furious fantasies."
Kinda puts your above post in its true context, eh?
And that was just at the car show. I can't find an exact damage amount on the trampled police car and all the trashed hotel rooms in Carlisle stemming from this quality gathering of fine, upstanding individuals.
I really don't think it's the size of the car meet that makes the difference. It's the age range of the participants.
Still, somehow I made it through college without exposing myself in public or trampling a police car.
Thanks, Mom and Dad.

Now, let's get back to talking about Proteges.
Meade
liven things up a little bit around here aren't we ;-D
Here's a Protege thing, btw: I finally got to see the reason Larry is "protegextwo" Saturday. Outside his garage on his impeccably clean driveway sat two equally impeccably clean 2000 ES automatics, both resplendent in Emerald Mica.
(The fact that my Emerald Mica 2000 ES made three of 'em was icing on the cake! But it doesn't end there, my friends, NOOO ... ALL THREE had BFG Touring T/A VR4s on 'em!!!)
It was neat to see three carbon-copy cars with a combined 150,000 miles shining in near-mint-condition condition!!!
Meade
Oh, and my Mazda (1.6L) got during the weekend:
Outbound: 29.5mpg, 33.4mpg (traveling 75-85mph)
Return: 35.4mpg, 35.8mpg (traveling about 70mph)
Nowhere near its record of 38+mpg when I was cruising around Atlanta at about 45mph, but pretty good. I think the peak economy must be around this speed, which runs the engine around 2500rpm, and is just after the torque converter locks.
My original tires will be lucky to make 20k, so whatever replaces them I hope lasts a little longer!
"Subject: Focus With Mazda 6 Engine
From: Ben
It is my understanding from the Edmunds Town Hall that in N.Y., Mass. and Calif., people can now buy a Ford Focus with the new 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine from the Mazda 6. I've driven the 6 and loved it, but it is a little out of my price range. If they are putting that same engine in the Focus, though, that makes it a mini-6, sort of. My question is whether the esteemed editors of Edmunds know more about this engine change and if so when will the rest of the country (I'm in Michigan) benefit from it? I love Edmunds! Nothing else even comes close! Thanks!
The 2.3-liter PZEV engine that's now available in the Focus in certain states is, in fact, the same engine used in the Mazda 6, but due to its stricter emissions controls it generates less horsepower and torque than the equivalent engine in the Mazda. This engine will be available in all non-SVT Focus models nationwide roughly a year from now. -- Ed. "
So, Foci drivers can enjoy the new motor, but Protege (nee 3) drivers will have to wait until later this year. That is not quite fair, but I guess Ford needed the low emissions engine now.
Meade, sorry I didn't get to Lancaster. I had to stay close due to a friend being gravely ill. The family said they were so glad I came and I was, too. Holding his hand both of us knew it was the last time we would see each other. He died a few hours later.
BTW, last Fall, he said I am too old for Zoom Zoom cars. I had told him about the MAPP meets.
