I don't mind the shotgun rule. I can always drive up north 30 minutes, and I am in rifle country. But there is no need anymore, just get a rifled slug barrel and some sabots.

Thank you Don. That is what our thought was on the 8100 w/allison.

BTW, we found the exact truck he was looking for in Indianapolis. He is flying there from Tulsa today to pick it up. :)

Tried going to your site but the server here at work is listing it as "restricted, access denied" what the heck is on there anyway ??? It's usually key words or symbols that our webserver picks up on to restrict access.

If I had to guess, I'd say that's the 8100 Alli w/4:10; right?

Its a slug manufacturer. There are a couple of shots of sabots being fired into a 10% ballistic gelatin solution (semblance of flesh/tissue) and the spread pattern of the sabots. A big difference compared to regular slugs.

Found out this morning I no longer have a job
  • dch0300dch0300 Member Posts: 472
Sorry to hear about your job.
But, just what exactly was your job?
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
So Menards let you go ?? What's the deal ?? Are they slowing down, you would think for holiday season they would need additional help, they are similar to Home Depot & Lowes right??
Well on the up side your truck is payed for so you won't have to sacrifice that, you student loans don't kick in till you graduate so life is not all that sour. A new job will come, why not try for one in the field your taking at college??

If I remember correctly, Ryan left Menards months ago.
That is why I was wondering what his most recent job was.

You'll never guess what I saw two days ago...
A new Tundra with a snow plow in the front of it, with 6 adults seated comfortably inside, 2000 lbs. of gravel in the back of it, and it was also pulling a 8000 lb. 5th wheel trailer ........ amazing, just absolutely amazing!! Damn, and I had to go and buy a Silverado, what was I thinking.
When Bama talks about every product that Toyota makes being better than anything else out there, I thought he was just kidding.

    RYAN,

I am sorry to hear that you lost your job. Better to go thru this now when you still live at home (I do too when not in the dorms). Your truck is paid for, your student loans are not due. It can be an experience that will lead you to be a better person, and help you out in the future. Learn from what life deals you and learn from your mistakes.

When do you graduate, I forget, I graduate in May. The job that I thought I had wrapped up with ADM I have been turned down for. I am planning for now on farming for now. If that doesn't pan out I will go to Law school. So is life. My housing for now is paid for, I have been paying for my school as I go. I do have a large truck payment now that I bought the Duramax, but that isn't a problem for me, since it was my choice to borrow at 0%.

Best of luck and best wishes
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

...wearing your nerdy safety glasses with the tape over the bridge and peripheral screens, and weren't using a pocket protector. Or you didn't have a thermometer sticking up out of the pocket protector, or stainless steel rule with sliding "T." You also need a sharpie, highlighter, and laser pointer, and a mechanical pencil with eraser.

These things matter in the modern world...

It'll work out. You have many friends here, so we'll stick by you.

If you didn't raise the torsion bars when you put the big tires on, would they rub?

Also, did your abs work differently before you got your speedometer re-programmed?

Lastly...got an email for Hunter98? If so, just email it to me, motronix@vsdrives.com. Want to ask about his (I think) Kelly Springfield LT255/85/R16.

Could be worse Ryan. You could live in State College, PA. The local ATT cable system has been in the process of being sold to Adelphia cable, and the closing date keeps getting moved back. As a result, they didn't include the State College area in any contingency plans regarding the Excite situation, and they announced today that @home subscribers would be without high speed access until the end of the year... NICE

...Is that Excite@Home is shooting themselves in the foot. I think the reason they did this ostensibly because they told the bankruptcy judge they couldn't break even at $12/line contract price with ATT. But..the real reason is because they thought the takeover price ATT offered was too low at $350B, should be worth twice that etc. Maybe someone can explain it to me, but if by chopping off internet access to all those customers, which ATT is going to re-route anyway (at great inconvenience to its customers), seems in the end Excite@Home is going to be worth a lot less.

    To answer your questions

If you didn't raise the torsion bars when you put the big tires on, would they rub?

NOPE. I DIDNT RAISE THE TBARS TILL SEPT ABOUT 9-10K MILES AFTER I GOT THE TIRES

Also, did your abs work differently before you got your speedometer re-programmed?

I COULD TELL A SLIGHT VERY SLIGHT DIFFERENCE IN THE BRAKING. SEEMED TO TAKE LONGER TO STOP IF THAT MAKES SENSE. IT WASNT ANYTHING WHICH WOULD CAUSE A SAFETY CONCERN

(sorry bout the caps just wanted it to stand out)

    Hope this helps

I have done my own oil changes myself and it is time for the first one on the new 2001. I have noticed that I have lost about a quart which isn't that bad. I've never used synthetics just because of price but I thought I'd ask for any suggestions before I get started this weekend.

    Thanks,
    Dano

    ABS and 285's.
I also put 285's on my 01 4x. No rubbing here. Even on a severe desert run. If you don't have a Hypertech or the Jet SCU2000 to adjust for the larger tires. You can have the dealer adjust the computer for the ABS only. They will not adjust the spedo to compensate.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
oh yea i have driven up and down some curbs never had any rubbing problems
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
    Gator,
I don't want to hassle with the dealer reprogram. Besides, I may switch back later. I wonder how much it really matters to the abs? Hypertech doesn't have a programmer for the Duramax. Got a link for Jet SCU2000?

    Ryan,
    >I COULD TELL A SLIGHT VERY SLIGHT DIFFERENCE IN THE BRAKING. SEEMED TO TAKE LONGER TO STOP IF THAT MAKES SENSE.<

Even if there was no effect on abs, it would be normal for it to need a little more brake pressure, since more torque is needed to stop. Torque=Force times Radius. More radius, more torque. Did you notice anything different in how the abs reacted in the wet, slippery stuff before reprogramming?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
funny you ask about the wet road condition

I got my tires on a thursday night. That night there was snow on the ground. No problems stopping at all. I even had to make 1 very fast slam on the brakes stop. Truck was fine

Next day i went to dealer found out they didnt have a program. That afternoon i bought the HPIII. I only put on about 50 miles before i reprogrammed

    Ryan
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
also after i got the larger tires and prgrammed the truck I RARELY get the sensitive abs like when going over bumps. It used to always kick in now it doesnt do it on washboard roads. Only when i need it

    That was a plus
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
But there again, larger diameter tires have more inertia, less tendency to lock just due to physics. Issac Newton (Fig Newton actually) said this about interia...the tendency of an object in motion to stay in motion, the tendency of an object at rest to remain at rest. He made good cookies...
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
sorry i didnt use the technical terms. Wanted to keep it in laymens terms so the general public could understand. Also i deal with all that stuff on a regular basis. Id rather it not consume me
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
OK, I've said all I needed to. hehe.

Wait...one question. Ryan, what was the weight difference between the 285s and the stock 265s? Information needed to plug into Fig Newton's formula....
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
I got it....and it has yet to be interrupted....although I hear some west coast boys are shut off?

My system was Adelphia....but eventually became comcast....

oh well....just give me the net!

    - Tim
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
    alot

the 285's weigh more than the 265's

its like a feather to concrete

You will need to look under the domestic catalog.

It is known as the SCU2000 and as of this time

I think they only support to the 2000 model year.

I used one on my 1997 GMC and it worked great.

I want to know what changes will take place on the Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra pickups for 2003?

    Does anyone know yet!

I put a set of 255/85/16s on my HD without touching the torsion bars. I have no rubbing at all in either direction (full left- full right), but have yet to really load the truck up with the bigger tires. With the suspension fully loaded, I might be touching the front air dam, but not sure yet. For the aesthetic appearance alone, the tires were worth it.

Do you have any pics of your truck with the new tires?? Trying to convince the Department of War to let me put new shoes on the truck, but she stated they have to be worn out first with miles not JUST my right foot!! :D

  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
It's all a matter of preference the intervals you use for oil changes & synthetic or not, my first 6 oil changes were done for free at dealership every 3000 miles with 5w30 Quaker State. I now change at 5000 miles interval, 5w30 oil (as recommended by factory & what you see on the oil filler cap).
The main thing is to keep records (the owners manuals have a specific place to record such info) as to mileage/date/oil type & quantity. Anything ever goes wrong that's the first thing dealers look for to discredit the owner. Factory recommends oil changes at 7500 (or sooner for severe condition use) on Silverado's, so anything above and beyond is up to you. Dealers like to issue their own booklets for change intervals that are not factory recommendations but theirs, to keep business flowing and trick some customers who don't know any better.

Well, it took less than 4 months to hit a deer with my new Silverado. Towing boat back tonight at 5:30 from a boat ramp at a state park on a narrow road, nearly missed it but just kissed its hind section with the right corner of the bumper. Has anyone priced new chrome Silverado bumper? Without my boat behind me, I think I would have missed it.
No sheet metal damage as far as I can tell.

Old '90 Montero was known as "the Deerslayer" - big slab of steel in front attached to massive frame - killed deer without vehicle damage. It actually put meat in my freezer.

Why not let your insurance pay for it? That's why we pay for insurance isn't it?

    Mike L
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
    Mike,

Went thru this about 3 weeks ago, my insurance covers this under Comprehensive but I have $200 deductable, so w/$549 in damage I get a check less the deductable. I told my agent I will probably fix myself cuz all the damaged parts were not visible to the eye and a little plastic epoxy would do the trick. That's all well and good but State Farm wants to see proof (receipt)from a certified body shop that work was done or they'll deduct this claim from any future claims on the parts listed on estimate. They always have ways to screw the customer, I'm not certifed but I do know how to fix it and have for that matter.

  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
You ought to be able to take it back to the SF claims adjuster and have him verify the repairs have been done. A note from him should be adequate 'proof'.
