try going to www.cabelas.com look under automotive/atv and then floor mats and cargo protection.
they have a bunch of differnet types - click on the individual type and they will show you more options - a lot have the kind that cover the rear area. i am not saying that this is the best place to buy them, but you can see whats out there...
  • danogdanog Member Posts: 318
Checked the site and they have most of the same mats I have looked over. I still have the problem of the rear coverage, they all only cover the foot area and not under the seat. If there isn't one available, no biggie, but if there is well that will most likely be the brand I'd buy.

    Thanks,
    Dano

The catchalls cover the under the seat area.
  • ness5575ness5575 Member Posts: 29
the catch-all ones cover under the seat too. i had been thinking of those for mine too actually. i have the front ones and like them a lot.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
both front and rear and for over a year and a half to boot. No problems.
  • danogdanog Member Posts: 318
I can't find any pics showing full rear coverage. The pics on all the sites only show the foot area. But if you guys have them I have to believe they exist. I'll double check with the vendor to be sure.

Oby, where did you buy them? On-line?

    Thanks,
    Dano

they go all the way back to the rear of the cab on mine. The ones made for the Yukon, Tahoe, Burb and XL....maybe the ones you're thinking about....
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
online. I remember that it wasn't a good experience and the front came a month before the back and the company had sent me two rears cause they had it on backorder. Let me see if I have the old receipt and will post.

"There's a metallic red on the Tahoe that is gorgeous (don't remember the name) but it doesn't seem to be a Pick-up color."

Txyank1; It's Redfire metallic, Suburban & Tahoe, (no trucks-you're right)

You have a dark blue truck? I have a dark blue 2001 1500 LT and man does it show scratches. The undercoat is white!! Not like my 91 explorer with a dark undercoat that didn't show anything. Have you found a solution for minor scratches that show more than they should?

For those buying tires. I switched to Bridgestone Dueler H/L now with 20 K on them. Fantastic in snow in Mt's near Seattle and great on the road.

I am thinking about airlift shocks cause I want to put a camper on my truck. Used to be made by Firestone "Ride Rite" Anyone with experience with these? When not loaded does the ride change with these installed?

Anyone put a front reciever hitch on a new Silverado type? I would use it mostly for a platform for carrying things (motorcycle) when towing a boat takes up the rear hitch.

Thanks for the help and input.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Not air shocks. The shock mounts are not designed to carry a load. Use pneumatic helper springs.

Air Lift (tm) and others make 'em.

    sfish,
Check out the Warn winch website, they have bolt on platforms for the front as a single piece or a kit with their ront rear winch kit. Different part numbers for HD and reg trucks about $190

I used to have a black truck. Probably the only
color worse than dark blue for showing scratches.
I had alot of success using Meguires Fine Cut
Cleaner, followed by Meguires Swirl Remover and
finished with a nice coat of wax.
It will take you some time to do a truck but the
results are great. I had to remove "Desert Pinstriping"
from my old truck many times.
I have since seen the light and bought a
    pewter truck this last July.

I'm hoping someone here can help me out with a pricing question.

My sister in law is looking at a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck. She's in the Chicago suburbs if that makes any difference.

The truck she is looking at has 6,000 miles on it but the dealer considers it new because it has never been titled. They claim it was a demo. Seems like a lot of miles for a demo. Also the bed is really scratched up.

They are offering it to her at invoice price, and giving her $1500 for her old, basiclly worthless 1993 Explorer. She's wondering if this is a good deal. Since it is still "new" she can take advantage of teh special financing deals going on right now. What do you think?

I told her, 6,000 miles is a lot for a "new" truck, and I'd consider it used. No used pricing is available online for 2001 trucks yet, so she figures (basing her figures on what a 2000 equivalent truck went for new, and used at 6,000 miles) it should retail for about $4,000 under invoice. Her strategy is to offer to split the difference, so $2,000 under invoice, and get them to put in a spray-in bed liner, since the bed is scratched up. Seem reasonable?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Another question that she should ask is that "if the dealer considers this truck new (which it is not)will the factory warranty be 3 years or 42,000 miles? If they say yes, best to get it in writing.

$2400 ($2k+$400 liner) under invoice is not a bad deal. How does the rest of the truck look? I would also take it to a reputable mechanic to give it a good look at for other possible problems and would assume that the 6,000 miles were "hard" miles.
  • txyank1txyank1 Member Posts: 1,010
side but not unusual for a Demo unit. That is where they usually ake them out of service if/when they get that far. As for the bed that's obviously the one the Salesmen used for thier weekend needs. I don't think the deal sounds that bad but I'd also tell them to deduct $.09 a mile for the mileage.

I live in New Hampshire. Lots to do here. What would you be doing in NH? What town will you be in? I live about 2 hours from the White Mountains, if you like hiking there are some great trails there. I've done a few hikes to the summits of some of the mountains, the views are unbelievable. Fishing is good here too, I'm not an avid fisherman but I do some. There are some great moutain biking trails about 1/2 hour from my house. Also the ocean is about 1/2 hour from my house too.

Also called "air springs", but most frequently called "air bags", are manufactured by Goodyear, Firestone Industrial Products, and AirLift. I've heard of problems with the Goodyears, but everybody says the Firestone and AirLift products are both of good quality.

Systems run the gamut from just having external air valves with lines running to the air bags, up to adding on-board compressor, in-cab control, reservior tank, and extra air line for filling air-mattresses, tires, balls, etc.

You can install the system yourself or have the system installed for you by your dealer. Mike L. has a simple AirLift system that he installed himself, while I have Firestone Ride Rites with compressor and in-cab control, which was installed by my local Les Schwab Tire Center.

The important thing to remember for your application is to NOT tie the bags together. This configuration will help reduce sway and "porpoising".

There should still be some incintives for "new" 2001 Trucks, so in theory you should be able to get a new, "new" 2001 for less than invoice.

Also, I just happend to be reading my warranty information booklet today and it stated that your warrnty mileage extension does NOT apply to dealer demonstrator vehicles and vehicles with more than 1,000 miles even though the vehicle may not have been registered for license plates.

So the warranty looks like it would only be good for 30,000 miles, unless the dealer wants to kick in an extended GM warranty.

I'd suggest to keep shopping. We just sold our 'used' 2001 Silverado z71 Ext cab with 8,000 miles on it for 25K. Then we went out and bought a 2002! :)

6000 miles is a bit high but it is a "Demo". I ran into the used/demo issue and found that if it wasn't titled it is still considered a "new" vehicle. For the record, I bought one last Wednesday with 200 miles on it and paid invoice price. The truck was a dealer transfer so that is where the mileage came from. Anyway, they should deduct something for the mileage as well as offer a spray in bed liner. I also added the Line-X liner with the bed rails for $450. It looks excellent. 2001 trucks are getting really hard to find, especially if your looking for something specific like color. If the truck is what she wants and they will make a reasonable offer, buy it. Otherwise you can go the route I did and spend 2 weeks searching www.gmbuypower.com for one that will work!
    Good luck,
    Dano

PS. Even 0 miles 2001 truck have already lost $2000 because of years end. It is already 1 year old, this is from a finance manager friend at a local dealer, FYI.

air bags. Works on my 2000 that dropped 2 inches in the rear. Same happened to my 99.
Dealer just kept saying, " It's within specs". Now with the air bags, I cured the vibrations when accelerating and can now carry as much of a load as I want. The ride is tight and feel close to a Suburban. When empty, I keep the front tires @ 40 psi and the rear @ 35 psi with 15 psi in the air bags. When towing a loaded 4x8 utility trailer I have to keep checking the mirror to make sure it is still back there. And yep the blue shows scratches real bad, but it is the best color combo, Indigo / Pewter.

2000 Rado 2x4 - LS - 5.3 - Indigo/Pewter - locker - 3.42 diff. - ride control - velvet ride shackles - ultra boards - roll n lock - line x - wood trim kit - chrome rails - pin stripe - vent visors - bug shield - viper alarm/remote start sys. Next will be air horns. This is the second time my factory horns stopped working. Happened on the 99 and now the same thing on the 2000.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
and you can pretend that the horn works cause you won't be able to hear em. In lieu of the horn, roll down the windows and you'll be sure to get the attention of anyone around....
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
the best combo is blue with black flares.

Dean and seelig im gonna need your help this sring with my stereo (speaker) system

Starting to sound like crap. getting crakly
