    Our Pacifica has finally arrived!
One "small" problem...the dealer accidently ordered the rear seat entertainment system. My 8-year-old is delighted, but I'm not too happy with a grand more cost.
The good news is I'm getting the vehicle at invoice.
  • svevarsvevar Member Posts: 160
Congratulations on your new Pacifica. If I were you, I'd take the Pacifica w/ the entertainment. What's another thousand on 40K? And isn't the 5.1 system that comes with it amazing? Good luck with your purchase, and please keep us updated! Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the 2005 300C?

This Sunday I'm attending Chrysler's "Art of Driving" event just outside of NYC where I'll be able to drive the Pacifica and Crossfire. I've already seen the Pacifica at the autoshow, and I think it's great. The interior is amazingly well built, especially considering all the abuse the autoshow cars go through - I think the Pacifica was one of the few cars I sat in that wasn't ripped to pieces. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to driving the Pacifica this weekend. While I'm not in the market for one, I really am a big fan, and expect it to be a hit for Chrysler. From what I saw at the auto show, the car will definitely help Chrysler in its return to premium-brand status.

looking forward to russklass's Pacifica comments

also interested in svevar's comments on the crossfire, not that I'm in the market for it

If it were me I would tell them i will buy the car for the agreed upon price. It is not your fault that it came in incorrectly.

If you have the chance, attend the Art of Driving event when its in your area. Its the only place you can drive a Crossfire - several "guides" told me that the car won't be available at Chrysler's other traveling road-test event, Route 2003. Here's a link to Chrysler where you can register for the Art of Driving:

What is the "5.1" sound system? How do you like Sirius radio? I understand DC has a line item on the order sheet that creates a "discount" worth a year's subscription (about $150).
  • jglackinjglackin Member Posts: 164
actually can take a 2 channel (stereo) signal and digitally recreate it into a surround sound. The highlight of this system is the "sweet spot" that has been designed for each passenger.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
Previous post describes the 5.1 surround system.
Because I have a defective front center speaker, I have the fader set for rear-only, but it still sounds real good.
5* has a new speaker ordered.
I do NOT have the Sirrus radio.
300 miles and love the Pacifica so far. I'm still finding neat features.

According to this month's Car & Driver, the Pacifica gets 14mpg in combined city and highway driving. Ouch.

What bothers me about the Pacifica is Chrysler is marketing as a revolutionary new crossover "Sports Tourer" when there's nothing novel about it. This may be what some people are looking for, but I'm not seeing the segment-busting innovative creativity. What company isn't building a 4,500lb, 17-foot long vehicle, call it wagon, van, SUV, SAV, "Sports-Tourer," or whatever, that seats 5 comfortably, 2 more uncomfortably and gets lousy gas mileage? OK, it's a hell of a lot better looking than the Buick Rendezvous, but what's the conceptual difference?

I find the whole "Sports Tourer" thing hilarious. Supposedly, the Pacifica was inspired by sport-touring motorcycles. My butt. Sport-touring motorcycles are lightly civilized sportbikes. The auto equivalent of the sport-tourer is the GT coupe, something like the Mercedes SL500 at the high end and the Toyota Celica at the low end . . . not a chopped minivan.

I realize that most second and third-tier automakers rely on marketing rather than quality to sell their vehicles (Isuzu should be indicted for fraud for pretending their SUV's are still competitive in the marketplace) but DaimlerChrysler should be able to do better. In any case, the hype will wear pretty thin for the Pacifica owners who are hit up for $200 in gas money every month by their "carlike" Pacifica sport tourers.

Hi jerrykoh - Welcome back, and congrats on your new Pacifica! Just curious, what color and options...? We look forward to hearing more details!

You asked: "any other real owners on this thread?"

So far, I'm aware of Fijikm and Russklass. Also, I believe Flaverdave has a Pacifica on order. Perhaps he can tell us the expected delivery date.

Also, if anyone else here owns a Pacifica or has one on order, we look forward to hearing from you. Happy motoring!

    Hello everyone,
I just bought one last night, and I am very happy with it already. It is really comfortable, I took it on a long drive and it rides so smooth. I bought it fully loaded and the dealership was great, the invoice was $40700, and I got it for $34800. It is worth it!!!
  • shuedshued Member Posts: 107
One guy gets one for $500 over invoice.
And another guy gets one for $34,800 while
invoice is $40,700. My only question is what
is the sale volume target of Pacifica Chrysler
has? How many customers will buy Pacifica at
$32,000 tag while they can get T&C EX with Leather
at $26,000? I do not say that Pacifica is bad,
but I say that its price tag is too high.

How were you able to buy the Pacifica for well under dealer cost?
  • rbirns1rbirns1 Member Posts: 318
I think he meant MSRP was $40,700.
  • aj20aj20 Member Posts: 3
I did mean the MSRP, the dealership was eager to get them out there. They were making great deals.
  • maxmommaxmom Member Posts: 62
Well, I ordered my Pacifica yesterday. FWD Butane Blue Pearl w/ Light Taupe cloth interior. Since this car comes standard with so many more options than my Maxima SE, the only option I added was the sunroof.

    MSRP was $32,125, I gave $30,500.

Can't wait for delivery. We've debated for a year and came close to buying a new v70, but my husband really liked the styling and safety of the Pacifica so we changed our minds after seeing it up close and personal.
  • svevarsvevar Member Posts: 160
Though Car and Driver recorded just 14 MPG over their test of the Pacifica, I think that we must take into consideration that they drive more aggressively than most people would on a day to day basis. I'm confident that "broken in" Pacificas will get gas mileage in the high teens in the city and mid-twenties on the highway, just as the EPA reports.

We went out to eat earlier tonight and saw two Pacificas along the way. And I've been seeing lots of commercials for it lately. I really think Chrysler has a hit on its hands.
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
A broken-in 300M gets 27-28 mpg with steady state cruising at 75 mph on the interstate. Granted, it is more aero and lighter than the Pacster, but I bet you'll get around 25 hwy once its broken in and you do a full tank on the road.
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
Compared to BMW, Lexus, Infinity, Nissan, etc. the Pacifica feels much larger inside. Price seems very competitive. Have not driven one as my 2001 Blazer, 1993 Ford F-150 and 1994 Toyota Corolla wagon will serve the needs of me and my wife for many years: Blazer for long trip road comfort with decent fuel economy. Corolla wagon for nice, convenient around town vehicle. Ford F-150 for hunting and fishing.

Hi revka - i got the butane blue pacifica AWD with light taupe leather, 17-Inch Chrome Aluminum Wheels, Six-Disc In-Dash CD/DVD Changer, Cold Weather Group, Power Sunroof, Power Liftgate, Full-Size Spare Tire and Cargo Convenience Group. MSRP = 37+k Invoice was 34,500 and i got it for 35k. It was a pretty good deal. I've driven it 50miles so far, MPG is around 14 in stop and go traffic... looking forward to taking it on a long road trip soon.. will report back. Btw, anyone know where i can get accessories for the pacifica? the dealership says that it will be about 2 months before they can get the accessories (and they don't even have a catalog) Also, i'm confused about the fog lights - is there a way to switch them off explicitly? i leave the lights in the Auto position now, and all my lights are always on..

There IS an accessory catalog for the Pacifica, I got one from my dealer.
As for the fog lights; with the headlamp switch in the parking light or low beam position, pull out on the end of the light stalk to turn on the fog lamps. push in to turn off. They will go out if you activate the high beams.
I urge all Pacifica owners to read the owners manual cover to cover. There are some really great features you will never find otherwise.
400 miles on mine so far and lovin' it!

    Hi,
I need some help, my navigation dvd is scratched bad and I didn't noticed it at first and now it is not working, I called the dealership to see if they can replace it and nothing but the run around.... any suggestions?
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
There is a phone number in the Nav System manual to call for updated DVDs. Call them and explain the problem and I bet they will help.
The dealer should give you a good DVD with the car, if they don't, and won't help, blow them in to Chrysler!

    >> "Blazer for long trip road comfort"

Enjoy it while it lasts - cause it won't. I have been looking at a Pacifica or a T&C because my 96 Blazer (with 55K) shakes on the highway. It didn't always shake, but sooner or later they always shake.

    Good luck

<y wife and I looked at the Pacifica but were turned off at the pricing...The dealer said they would deal but we did not go beyond that with them...This past Sunday in the Chicago tribune I see a dealership advertising a fully loaded 40K + vehicle for 35,800...And I figure they will go lower then that...I am going to wait a little longer until the rebates start too...Nice vehicle though but in my opinion way overpriced...Fully loaded at 35K though is fair...
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
    Overpriced compared to what?
More features and lower price than Acura MDX...and they won't deal.
Feature for feature, lower price than Town & Country, although no rebate.
I mine bought at invoice, more then $3,000 less than MSRP, and since it is a 2004 model, I get a "free" 6 month ride on depreciation.
I'd love to know how you calculated the Pacifica is "overpriced."
  • pacificaoregonpacificaoregon Member Posts: 38
I just purchased a loaded (minus NAVI) Midnight Blue, AWD model. I was surprised at how willing the dealer was to deal after what I had previously read on Edmunds. However, it appears in the last few days people are striking better and better deals on this car.

The dealer actually showed me "their" invoice which was $563 more than the invoice price listed on sites with pricing configurators with options. It was due to two "regional" advertising type items that I figure are ways to pad the invoice in case someone asks to see it and hasn't looked on the internet. I ended up striking a deal for $310 over this invoice price or total $873 over website listed invoice prices with exact options. I previously bought an Explorer not off add and paid invoice for it in 1995. I know we are dealing with 2 different companies and don't know a single person who has bought a Chrysler so had no idea how close I'd get to invoice, especially on a car that has only been on the lots for 2 months and would expect them to maximize profits. I've only ever beaten invoice pricing by buying a car off newspaper ad and settling for the exact car listed in the ad which is a loss leader to the dealer anyway. I will be interested to see how soon rebates or incentives are offered on the Pacifica just like all the others. Since I was able to strike what in my opinion was a fair deal I bought it now instead of waiting.

I compared it to the MDX and felt this had much more interior room than the MDX, as it should it is a larger vehicle. For around the same price I feel I got a ton more options than the MDX. I also couldn't find an MDX locally that had a stock rear entertainment system. I would agree with the earlier post that Acura refuses to make a deal either. I am a previous Acura owner and thought it was MDX or nothing to get 3 rows of seating. I'm 6'0" and can easily get into the rear seat of the Pacifica, would never ride in the 3rd row of the MDX. Although it lacks headroom I rode with my oldest daughter in the 3rd row on a short trip to the store without complication.

When I purchased my Explorer I had to settle for one that didn't have every option I wanted, couldn't find a dealer that had one in stock and didn't want to special order. This time around I swore that I'd get a car with all the options that were important to me and not settle for anything less. The Pacifica actually had more than I wanted so unless the dealer really made me a deal I was ready to wait until I came across one not so loaded. However, use Chrysler's dealer search with inventory and you'll notice that they are building these either full load or with minimal options. The other thing that bothered me when viewing inventory online was that there were several that had almost all options but no rear entertainment system. I'm thankful that I was able to find one with rear entertainment and not Navigation. If I had Navigation I'd want it in the center of the dash and not in the speedometer section.

Key features for our family of four with a 6'0" and 5'4" drivers. Dual memory settings for everything, not just the seats. This was definitely taken from MB models. Rear entertainment system built in and not have to do expensive aftermarket that Acura wants you to do to have monitors in the headrests instead of the stock drop down screen. Ability to let kids listen to the DVD player and Mom & Dad to listen to CD/radio/cassette up front. Our oldest can sit in the 3rd row with a friend and our toddler can sit in the second row securely latched and tethered in the seat. When we travel as a family with the 3rd row down it will be ample cargo space.
Still trying to figure out all the different climate control settings which is also a plus as I'm always hot and the wife always cold.

Bottom line for me was I could spend 35k+ on a BMW, MB or Lexus sedan for the wife and not have as much seating or available cargo space. In my opinion the Pacifica has all the luxuries of a luxury sedan, multiple driver memory settings, dual climate zones, 4 heated seats, and a kick butt 5.1 surround system and entertainment system stock which isn't even available currently in top of the line sedans. The AWD is also important to us as we live in the Northwest and like to travel in the mountains during the winter not to mention we must climb 1,000 ft. from the main road to get to our house.

Hoping we purchased a vehicle we will enjoy even more than our '95 Explorer.

In response to Post #596 by Shued, Chrysler is aiming for 100,000 units of production of the Pacifica. I don't know if that is for this initial year of production though. To give some comparisons MB makes about 100,000 units annually of S-Class models. Chrysler's current output of PT Cruisers is expected to top 380,000 units this year. Hope this helps.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
We ordered ours, with all major options except the rear entertainment system (our 8 year old has a portable unit).
The dealer ordered the ent. system in error, and we bought the vehicle at invoice.
We had the same experience as you over the $500+ in advertising fees, etc., but I checked it out, and it is legit. The charges don't show on the MSRP sticker because the public would balk at the charges.
Tip of the day: Read all the manuals carefully.
The front passenger HVAC temp setting is adjusted via the up/down temp buttons to the right of the display.

"Feature for feature, lower price than Town & Country, although no rebate."

Hmmm, even before the rebate I was unable to configure a T&C LXi or even a GC ES for that matter to be more expensive than a similarly equipped Pacifica. Then of course there is that $3,500 rebate, which is nothing to sneeze at.

As it turns out, Mrs. Shipo made the decision, and she wanted the extra space that the MiniVan offers. As such, we just ordered a fairly well optioned Dodge GC ES. Personally, I was pulling for the Pacifica, or even a 525iT (5-Speed) for that matter. Oh well.

    Best Regards,
    Shipo
  • tasillotasillo Member Posts: 51
I really think the Shipo family will be happy with the Grand Caravan ES. We've been looking at the Pacifica to replace our '01 Grand Caravan ES, but cannot justify the extra $$$ right now. We just returned from a week at the beach in the GC, once again I'm amazed at this vehicles road manners. On both Alabama 2 lanes and the I-65/85 slab into Atlanta, I just set the cruise at 85, the climate control at 68 degrees and motor on home. The van is almost as stable as my BMW at those speeds and I never feel a lcak of confidence in it's abilities. The 3.8L V6 is not a sexy engine on the spc sheet, but it sure fits this vehicle well, lots of torque and 19.5 mpg in the conditions described above. Only minor problems to report at 36k as well, I'm glad we bought the Dodge over the Honda. If the Pacifica has the road manners of the Caravan, I believe it will serve many happy owners as well.
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
I am sure that we will very much enjoy our A/V equipped ES, as we are upgrading from a 1998 GC Sport (with the rare 29N 3.8 liter package) and the touring suspension. Our current van has about 75,000 miles on it, and other than showing its age (the kids were still spilling bottles and puking all over when we got it), it still runs great. In fact, it has been so reliable that the only thing that I have had to do to it (other than normal maintenance, tires, wiper blades and brakes) was put a new DieHard in it a couple of years back.

Like you, I too am very glad that we did not opt for the Honda (my wife is a clothing designer [non-permissible content removed] executive) and she thinks that the Oddy looks, well, odd. For her, that is the kiss of death.

All of that said, I would never compare the stability of a Caravan (touring suspension or not) to my SP equipped 530i, they simply are not in the same league. ;-)

    Best Regards,
    Shipo

    PS
Funny thing about the $$$, after the rebate, the "Decked Out" 2003 GC ES is only costing about $3,000 more that the middle of the road 1998 GC Sport.

I spoke with Barb, the very nice and competent lady at Alpine/Chrysler.
In the disc case for your Nav. DVD there is a coupon for a free, next generation, upgrade for the DVD Nav. disc which will be shipping the end of June. The regular price for these discs is/will be $150.00.
If you send in the coupon now, Barb will put you on the list for early shipment.

I have noticed people posting about advertising charges being added onto their invoice. Before ordering my Pacifica, I requested quotes from all of the dealers within a reasonable radius of my location. The only ones to mention the advertising charge were the really high volume city dealers. None of those in the smaller markets brought it up.

Actually, I wound up getting the best deal from my local dealer that is so small in volume they didn't even get allotted a Pacifica in this first round. Needless to say, they were anxious to deal in order to have their name on one of the first Pacificas around.

It might be worth a drive into a small market. I'm adding it to my list of reasons we moved back to the country.

hi, I just traded in my BMW wagon(2002) after driving it for only 4 months and went back to the suv lifestyle, I LOVE MY PACIFICA, I bought the awl drive , fully loaded, navigational, dvd entertainment center, etc, and love it, still 10K chepaer than the high line vehicle of the beemer suv with no bells and whistles, paid under 39K and am extremely happy with the whole vehicle,I have only 175 miles on the car and am getting 14.7 mpg, hoping that will improve with time, as I am an easy driver that doesnt jack rabbit to the next red light, interior very roomy, although the first thing I did was remove the 2nd row right passenger seat, this allows an aisle for one of my kids to get to the rear, and allowing more and easy cargo space when I open up the passenger door

My 5* got a replacement for the defective center dash speaker in 3 days.
Replacement turned out to be real simple; the grill just popped off to get at the speaker.
The Infinity 5.1 sound system is awsome .. been playing Phantom of the Opera all evening.
We're having a lot of fun with the Nav system too.

does it have a "take me home" feature?

my wife gets lost often. Som Nav systems have this feature that at a push of a button calculates the best route home.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
Yes, the Nav system has a quick access "home" destination button.
The system is loaded with features, and is very easy to use. A new DVD disc, due in June, will cover 90% of the US, and the lower part of Canada.
Buy a Pacifica now, and you get a free Nav DVD upgrade ( a $150 value ) in June.

and still loving it... it's a sweet smooth ride... had to fill up the tank recently - boy 23Gallon tank sure holds a lot of Gas. Does everyone use 89 Octane as prescribed in the manual?

russklass - i went to the dealer to get an accessory catalog, they didn't have any, said it's too new, but did have a big book containing all the accessories, saw some body kits in the book, which look pretty sweet... ended up ordering the slush mats for all 3 rows, the bug shield and the bumper protection pad... they had a nice 10% discount, so i figured i couldn't go wrong... anyway, i did find an online pace to find out what accessories are available, however, it doesn't have pictures -http://www.mopar.com/index.html

I got the 6 CD/DVD changer but did not get the LCD entertainment center, wondering if i can actually look behind the center console and find a video out that i can just hook up to an LCD - anyone taken a look behind there yet?

Had a chance to speak to the mechanics at my dealership - they love the pacifica, but all admited that it's such a new car that they knew very little about it - promised that by my first oil change, they would be experts - i'm wondering if i'm going to be the guinie pig car owner for them. :P anyway, when asked if the pacifica's innards was in anyway similar to the other chrysler vehicles, they said it was TOTALLY different, more a benz, then an older chrysler, which is why they have to go through training really soon to get up to speed. All this was pretty interesting to me...
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I'm using 87 octane as I did for 130,000 mi on my 300Ms ... runs fine!
I ordered the bumper protector pad, envelope cargo net and cargo tray.
    got 20% off all.

I think the front of the CD/DVD player has RCA jacks for video out (yellow) along with left & right audio out.

There is an update available from the folks at Alpine. It is free with the card that comes in the case. If you don't buy your Pacifica now, you will probably be getting one with an updated NAV CD in it. They will be supplying these for the factory automatically.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
The front mountrd audio/video jacks are INPUT jacks for a camcorder or MP3 player so they may be played thru the Pacifica's A/V system.
