Can anyone tell me exactly WHAT the laminated glass doors option is? I seem to be too dense to understand what it is/does...
Also - anyone having the navigation system - does it talk to you or do you have to read the display?
Is there any indication or information that the 5.7 HEMI engine may be offered in the Pacifica? There seems to be a possible 300C wagon in the works with this engine that may come out later down the road. To me, it seems that a Pacifica with this engine would be a magnificent machine...
Thanks for your help!

????? All windshield glass is laminated safety glass, never heard of a "lamonated glass door" option!

The Nav system can be set to talk or not, and has a variety of display choices.

The Pacifica engine is placed "east-west", all Hemi applications to date are "north-south". It is very unlikely therefore that there will be a Hemi Pacifica ... we can dream though!
I'm guessing that the fuel warning indicator is more dependant on estimated miles to empty rather than the true amount of gas left in the tank. Someone getting only 16 mpg might have the 'chime' go off with 2-3 gallons left, whereas someone getting a higher MPG might not chime until 1-2 gallons left.
Once again, I don't know for sure that either of these two explanations apply to the Pacifica, however, a couple of years ago, someone from DC was active on these boards, and he/she said the above explanation was valid for our 1998 Caravan (and I assume our 2003 as well).

I do hope that DCX seeds Dollar or Thrifty with a few in most major markets, if only to get them out on the road.
But if renting isn't an option, I suppose there's always sucking up to your local dealer! (I would love to get in a test of a hundred highway miles or more, plus see what it's like to actually have room to haul people & stuff)
Does anyone know when the 2005 pacificas are coming out and what they may be changing? I am tempted to wait to get an 05 pac but afraid that they may not have rebates and other incentives? Has anyone heard anything?

anyway -- my kids and i were able to keep it a secret while the dealership added some after-market mopar parts. they love the car as much as i do -- and i hope as much as my wife does.
I think it boils down to whether or not this vehicle fits your needs.
I wanted enough 'sport utility' without feeling like I'm driving a truck. Every SUV I sat in said 'truck' to me.
I don't off-road, so I didn't need to consider that. I chose FWD instead of AWD for a few reasons: I'm a stay-at-home Mom who only goes out in bad weather when I absolutely have to, and having driven FWD in snow/ice before I'm comfortable with the capabilities. Also, since the AWD is not all-time AWD, I didn't see the need to spend the extra $$$ or having the additional curb-weight affect my gas mileage for the few times the AWD might kick in.
My family is big on driving vacations. The second-row seating is perfect for my two kids who now have their own space, lots of legroom and a DVD/entertainment system that their PS2 can hook up to. It will come in very handy on our major-league baseball park tour to the midwest this summer.
This past summer, there was more than enough cargo space for our trip to the mountains that required us to carry four people, four VERY large duffel bags, two sets of golf clubs, beach chairs, two boxes of supplies and pillows. All was carried inside the vehicle...nothing on the roof rack.
Its comfortable, its very stylish, and in my mind very reliable. I've owned a few Chrysler products over the past 20 years and (knock wood)never had a bad one in the bunch...well over 100K on them all only requiring regular maintenance.
This is supposed to provide:
* better security because instead of a thief or vandal being able to throw a rock through the window they would actually need to spend a fair amount of time whacking on the window to get through it. The only problem I see is that the small pane of glass in the rear door, a favorite of thieves, is apparently not laminated.
* less outside noise gets in than with normal glass. I find my Pacifica (with the laminated glass option)to be very quiet inside but have no way to compare it with one that has normal glass.
* lighter weight than regular glass because the whole thing put together is thinner than regular glass. On a vehicle the size of the Pacifica I can't see this making much of a dent.
One snag though.... I ordered it with the Intermezzo stereo and DVD/CD changer, but no video screen, intending to add aftermarket LCD headrest displays. I purchased wireless headphones and remote via E-bay. The remote does seem to control the stereo. However, I'm unable to hear any audio through the headphones. I tried the same headphones and remote on a 2004 Town & Country and they worked great.
Can anyone help??
Also, thanks to everyone on this board. Your comments greatly influenced my decision to go ahead and purchase a Pac.
"Bad bolts interrupt Pacifica output"
"The Chrysler group is determining how many 2004 Chrysler Pacificas have faulty connecting rod engine bolts and whether any of the vehicles reached dealerships or customers. "

I did find, however, that getting the full size spare tire released from the cable that secures it does not work as the manual says, which is "tilt the retainer at the end of the cable and pull it through the center of the wheel". The retainer is a "T" shape and is about an 1/8" too big to get through the hole in the wheel. With a lot of extra slack in the cable, the retainer comes apart into two pieces. Then you can get it through the hole. Even then, it is not easy.
Also, don't rely on the tip of the jack handle to pry off the wheel center cap. Keep a small screwdriver in the car for this job. Fortunately, I had a screwdriver, otherwise the jack handle would have mangled the center cap.
By the way, we are going to visit the new Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum in Washington over Easter.
It looks like a really good exhibit.
I do think the marketing and the pricing on these cars was all wrong. They still don't get it. The cars I looked at today ran into the $40K range! For that $$ I would be shopping a whole different segment of the market.
However I did find one AWD model that was not loaded with expensive (unnessary) options and the dealer wants to move it so I make take the 04 model for about $26,500 which is $10K less than sticker. Hope the dealer was right about that price!
Has anyone heard about a shut down of production?
A couple folks who seem to be workers at Windsor assembly on another board reported that Pacifica production had been really jacked up to recover from the production lost in January due to the engine issue. Also, an article in the Toronto paper said the plant was going to be on overtime until July, and you wouldn't think that'd be the case if they were just going to build minivans.
The marketing has definitely been screwed up, but I selfishly hope they don't fix it for another month or so, just in case I get one ...

Pacifica sold more unit in Jan. 04 then the Town n Country....
My mileage at this point is averaging about 19.1 to 19.5 MPG.
Not too shabby for a new Pac,(IMHO!)but hope it gets better as time goes on.
Have put gas in the tank twice, using 89 octane.

Then the extended is 4 more years and 64000 more miles? For 1700$? That's $600 per year if yo put 20000 on in a year.
Make sure that's a Chrysler warranty not an aftermarket insurance policy. They have a habit of going South with all the money after a time so they don't have to make good on the claims.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
this addition is conceptually for 4 years / 34000 and 0 deductaible and the charge is $ 1650. Hence total bumper to bumper for 7/70000
Since the drive-train is 7 /70 I thought it a good idea to add the bumper to bumper Max care to match.
I think they originally wanted $1100 but I was able to get it for $900.
Good to know I will not have any major repair bills for 70,000 miles.
Do you think I can get the ext warranty for less, maybe as a negotiating factor in the purchase?
If your dealer will not match that, e-mail me (see my Edmunds profile) and I will give you the contact.
It's always best to negotiate the warranty price after you make your deal on the vehicle. Treat it like any other optiom.
Note also thet AWD warranties are about $100 more than FWD.
Anyone else with numbers to share?
Mileage is sloooowwwwlllyy getting better. I am now averaging about 19.8mpg.
Hey Microrepair, my miles are mostly "commuter" miles---my drive to work is 75 miles each way!
Most of that is open road, probably 20% is "stop & go".
So far, everything is fine...hope mileage continues to improve.
I REALLY LOVE this truck/SUV/minivan/sedan!
At almost $2.00/gal it was not the year to give up the 300M, but then again the AWD was great over the winter!
I did notice my brakes are no where as sharp when I bought it thru 3 months. Now they seem squashy (sp). I like a crisp feeling and Im not getting that anymore....any one else with that feeling or issue?
Regarding the mpg numbers. Looks like we can't expect the Pac to do much better than the low 20's for highway mileage. That's disappointing. Oh well, maybe I'll have to wait to see how the new 300 does..
The difference in weight for FWD vs.AWD improves mileage and acceleration.
