just don't drag race your Pacifica for the first 500 miles or so. I know it is too enticing, but control yourself :)
  • ramzey28ramzey28 Member Posts: 130
I was told to keep it under 70 but to give it some good thrust. Another words run the rmps up every now and then, don't just let it shift at 2500 rmps, get up to 3500-4500 when starting out or even on the highway to pass. After 500, everything is fair game!

Does anyone know when the 2005 pacificas are coming out and what they may be changing? I am tempted to wait to get an 05 pac but afraid that they may not have rebates and other incentives? Has anyone heard anything?

Seriously considering buying an AWD Pacifica.

Can anyone tell me exactly WHAT the laminated glass doors option is? I seem to be too dense to understand what it is/does...

Also - anyone having the navigation system - does it talk to you or do you have to read the display?

Is there any indication or information that the 5.7 HEMI engine may be offered in the Pacifica? There seems to be a possible 300C wagon in the works with this engine that may come out later down the road. To me, it seems that a Pacifica with this engine would be a magnificent machine...

    Thanks for your help!

????? All windshield glass is laminated safety glass, never heard of a "lamonated glass door" option!

The Nav system can be set to talk or not, and has a variety of display choices.

The Pacifica engine is placed "east-west", all Hemi applications to date are "north-south". It is very unlikely therefore that there will be a Hemi Pacifica ... we can dream though!

Can you actually rent the Pacifica anywhere? Would be a good way to test it out for the weekend.
  • b25nutb25nut Member Posts: 202
Has anyone ever run their gas down on the Pacifica to the point that it takes 22 or 23 gallons to fill up? When mine reads empty and the Mini-Trip tells me I can go for 17 more miles, the most I can get in the tank is 19.3 gal. Do we really have 23 gallon tanks? Or is this just another dumb fuel gauge that thinks we can't handle the truth and will always be two or more gallons off?
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
Best (or should I say worst...with the price of gas!) is a 21 gallon fill.

I'm guessing that the fuel warning indicator is more dependant on estimated miles to empty rather than the true amount of gas left in the tank. Someone getting only 16 mpg might have the 'chime' go off with 2-3 gallons left, whereas someone getting a higher MPG might not chime until 1-2 gallons left.
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
...however, many cars these days "Tell" you you're empty 2-3 gallons before the tank is dry so that you 1) won't suck up any dirt and sediment at the bottom of the tank, and 2) so that there is enough gas remaining in the tank to keep the in-tank electric fuel pump cool.

Once again, I don't know for sure that either of these two explanations apply to the Pacifica, however, a couple of years ago, someone from DC was active on these boards, and he/she said the above explanation was valid for our 1998 Caravan (and I assume our 2003 as well).

It is possible to rent a Pacifica in at least a few places. I've googled that very subject and so far have found listings for Thrifty in Salt Lake City, Fox Rent a Car in the Southwest, USA Rent-A-Car around Buffalo, Dollar in Dayton OH, and at least a half dozen dealers around the U.S.

I do hope that DCX seeds Dollar or Thrifty with a few in most major markets, if only to get them out on the road.

But if renting isn't an option, I suppose there's always sucking up to your local dealer! (I would love to get in a test of a hundred highway miles or more, plus see what it's like to actually have room to haul people & stuff)
  • bjbird2bjbird2 Member Posts: 647
My dealer let us take a Pacifica on a 24 hr. test drive. That's what sold us on the vehicle. We put about 100 miles on it, and then they ended up getting another one for us from another dealer with the features we wanted.
  • ipoddinipoddin Member Posts: 61
okay, 'nother question. Anyone buy or lease in LA? Which dealer and how was the negotiation? I'm looking for dealers who are willing to deal! And it'll help me know what to expect and how far below invoice I can get.

for my wife...she loved it! too bad i have a cold -- she can't really show me how much she liked it! ;-)

anyway -- my kids and i were able to keep it a secret while the dealership added some after-market mopar parts. they love the car as much as i do -- and i hope as much as my wife does.

Looking at pacifica and other awd and 4x4s. It seems pricey to me at 35 to 40k. Are those of you who have chosen this vehicle satisfied and would do it again? Or would you rather have gone another way. Have vehicles proven to be reliable?
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
For my family, it was definitely the right decision.

I think it boils down to whether or not this vehicle fits your needs.

I wanted enough 'sport utility' without feeling like I'm driving a truck. Every SUV I sat in said 'truck' to me.

I don't off-road, so I didn't need to consider that. I chose FWD instead of AWD for a few reasons: I'm a stay-at-home Mom who only goes out in bad weather when I absolutely have to, and having driven FWD in snow/ice before I'm comfortable with the capabilities. Also, since the AWD is not all-time AWD, I didn't see the need to spend the extra $$$ or having the additional curb-weight affect my gas mileage for the few times the AWD might kick in.

My family is big on driving vacations. The second-row seating is perfect for my two kids who now have their own space, lots of legroom and a DVD/entertainment system that their PS2 can hook up to. It will come in very handy on our major-league baseball park tour to the midwest this summer.

This past summer, there was more than enough cargo space for our trip to the mountains that required us to carry four people, four VERY large duffel bags, two sets of golf clubs, beach chairs, two boxes of supplies and pillows. All was carried inside the vehicle...nothing on the roof rack.

Its comfortable, its very stylish, and in my mind very reliable. I've owned a few Chrysler products over the past 20 years and (knock wood)never had a bad one in the bunch...well over 100K on them all only requiring regular maintenance.
  • bjbird2bjbird2 Member Posts: 647
brian211, the base Pacifica is not pricey at $29500, and it come very well equipped for that price. The dealers are discounting $3k-5k, so you can find a well equipped Pacifica for $25-26k, a great value for the money!

The laminated glass option replaces the window glass in the doors with a 3-layer composite of glass/plastic/glass.

    This is supposed to provide:

    * better security because instead of a thief or vandal being able to throw a rock through the window they would actually need to spend a fair amount of time whacking on the window to get through it. The only problem I see is that the small pane of glass in the rear door, a favorite of thieves, is apparently not laminated.

    * less outside noise gets in than with normal glass. I find my Pacifica (with the laminated glass option)to be very quiet inside but have no way to compare it with one that has normal glass.

    * lighter weight than regular glass because the whole thing put together is thinner than regular glass. On a vehicle the size of the Pacifica I can't see this making much of a dent.

Hi, I just got my 2004 Pac two weeks ago and am very happy with it. I ordered it December 1st and it was built in January.

One snag though.... I ordered it with the Intermezzo stereo and DVD/CD changer, but no video screen, intending to add aftermarket LCD headrest displays. I purchased wireless headphones and remote via E-bay. The remote does seem to control the stereo. However, I'm unable to hear any audio through the headphones. I tried the same headphones and remote on a 2004 Town & Country and they worked great.

    Can anyone help??

Also, thanks to everyone on this board. Your comments greatly influenced my decision to go ahead and purchase a Pac.

Automotive News is running a page 1 story today on the Pacifica production being halted due to bad engine parts

    "Bad bolts interrupt Pacifica output"

"The Chrysler group is determining how many 2004 Chrysler Pacificas have faulty connecting rod engine bolts and whether any of the vehicles reached dealerships or customers. "
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
It seems that DC is being more than a little forthcoming on this issue. It seems to me that they are attempting to identify which cars have the bad bolts and correct the problem, regardless of whether the car is already in the hands of the owner or simply in the supply chain.

I heard something hit the bottom of my Pacifica last week on the freeway. I knew I must have run over some unseen object. Five seconds later I had it confirmed when the low tire pressure indicator appeared. I waited to feel something different in the handling or an unusual noise but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. After half a mile, I decided to pull over at a safe spot and check it out. The right rear tire was completely flat. Without the monitoring system, I know I would have driven the additional mile to my normal off-ramp, which very likely would have ruined the tire. The tire was patched the next day and is (almost) as good as new. The tire pressure system saved me from having to buy are new tire.

I did find, however, that getting the full size spare tire released from the cable that secures it does not work as the manual says, which is "tilt the retainer at the end of the cable and pull it through the center of the wheel". The retainer is a "T" shape and is about an 1/8" too big to get through the hole in the wheel. With a lot of extra slack in the cable, the retainer comes apart into two pieces. Then you can get it through the hole. Even then, it is not easy.

Also, don't rely on the tip of the jack handle to pry off the wheel center cap. Keep a small screwdriver in the car for this job. Fortunately, I had a screwdriver, otherwise the jack handle would have mangled the center cap.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
    Good tip on the spare!
By the way, we are going to visit the new Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum in Washington over Easter.
It looks like a really good exhibit.

and I have to tell you that as far as reliability, I have not had any problems or concerns. I currently have over 30,000 miles and it rides like the day that I bought it. I've owned Nissan, Honda, Accura and this car is as tight as any of them. I usually get 300,000 miles out of my car and expect the same here!

Ran my Pac pretty dry last night on I-17 between Phoenix and Camp Verde. For the last 40 miles the yellow gas pump icon was on and the dial was below the "E" when I pulled into the station. I did not try to top it off but it took 21.9160 gallons according to my receipt. Regrettably I did not look at the 'miles til empty' during the trip.

Visited 2 dealers today and did the test drives etc. One dealer said that production on Pacifica was being halted for 3 months. All new cars will then be 05 models. He said it was because the entire marketing campaign for the Pacificas had failed and it was being totally re-done. The 05 Pacificas will be rolled out just like they are a new car entering the market for the first time. Makes one wonder what they are going to change...

I do think the marketing and the pricing on these cars was all wrong. They still don't get it. The cars I looked at today ran into the $40K range! For that $$ I would be shopping a whole different segment of the market.

However I did find one AWD model that was not loaded with expensive (unnessary) options and the dealer wants to move it so I make take the 04 model for about $26,500 which is $10K less than sticker. Hope the dealer was right about that price!

Has anyone heard about a shut down of production?
  • mick0212mick0212 Member Posts: 27
A three month shutdown seems unlikely to me, but I have no inside info.

A couple folks who seem to be workers at Windsor assembly on another board reported that Pacifica production had been really jacked up to recover from the production lost in January due to the engine issue. Also, an article in the Toronto paper said the plant was going to be on overtime until July, and you wouldn't think that'd be the case if they were just going to build minivans.

The marketing has definitely been screwed up, but I selfishly hope they don't fix it for another month or so, just in case I get one ...

must be pretty good in spite of what a poster thought over in the 300 forum. I have seen quite a few around here in eastern Mass. and find them very attractive. One of my hot buttons is gas mileage since I do a couple of long trips every year. Can you folks with the 3.5 tell us what mileage you're getting?
  • pud2pud2 Member Posts: 20
I have had my new Pac for 1 week now,(about 550 miles).
My mileage at this point is averaging about 19.1 to 19.5 MPG.
Not too shabby for a new Pac,(IMHO!)but hope it gets better as time goes on.
Have put gas in the tank twice, using 89 octane.

I just bought a 2004 FWD Chrylser Pacifica. the Dealer Offered me extended warranty for about 1600 for 7 years. Is it advisable to go foe extended warranty and if yes, is this price good ?
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,691
Is the original warranty 3 year 36000?
Then the extended is 4 more years and 64000 more miles? For 1700$? That's $600 per year if yo put 20000 on in a year.

Make sure that's a Chrysler warranty not an aftermarket insurance policy. They have a habit of going South with all the money after a time so they don't have to make good on the claims.

    2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,

  • abhinavabhinav Member Posts: 3
Just to clarify the new Pacifica has the original warranty 3yrs/36000. In addtion the new paln will cover everything like the original bumper to bumper (not brakes, belts) and is given by chrysler.
this addition is conceptually for 4 years / 34000 and 0 deductaible and the charge is $ 1650. Hence total bumper to bumper for 7/70000
  • jsekjsek Member Posts: 4
I just purchsed the 7 / 70,000 ext. warranty on my new Pac for $900 with a $100 deductible.

Since the drive-train is 7 /70 I thought it a good idea to add the bumper to bumper Max care to match.

I think they originally wanted $1100 but I was able to get it for $900.

Good to know I will not have any major repair bills for 70,000 miles.
  • vsromanvsroman Member Posts: 95
I haven't purchased yet but the dealer offered me the extension to 7/70 for $1400. Plus, he offered any Pacifica for $200 over invoice. I'm in CT, think I can find a better deal?

Do you think I can get the ext warranty for less, maybe as a negotiating factor in the purchase?
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I bought a CHRYSLER extended warranty, 3yrs, 85,000 miles, $50 deductible for $1,200. That was 25% off the list price & no sales tax.
If your dealer will not match that, e-mail me (see my Edmunds profile) and I will give you the contact.
It's always best to negotiate the warranty price after you make your deal on the vehicle. Treat it like any other optiom.
Note also thet AWD warranties are about $100 more than FWD.
  • microrepairmicrorepair Member Posts: 508
pud2: thanks for the info on your mileage so far. I assume that 550 miles so far is mostly "around town" miles? Please keep us posted on the next few tankfuls.

Anyone else with numbers to share?
  • boiler1boiler1 Member Posts: 56
I wish I were getting your mileage! It's really the only thing I can complain about on my Pacifica. After 12,000 miles I'm getting about 14 MPG around town and 18 on the highway. Everything else is great, though.
  • pud2pud2 Member Posts: 20
Well guys, we are now up to 1250 miles.(How's that for a car that is 10 days old!)
Mileage is sloooowwwwlllyy getting better. I am now averaging about 19.8mpg.
Hey Microrepair, my miles are mostly "commuter" miles---my drive to work is 75 miles each way!
Most of that is open road, probably 20% is "stop & go".
So far, everything is fine...hope mileage continues to improve.
    I REALLY LOVE this truck/SUV/minivan/sedan!
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
At 24,000 miles, I'm getting about 17 MPG in everyday driving, and 21-21.5 on trips of 300 miles or so.
At almost $2.00/gal it was not the year to give up the 300M, but then again the AWD was great over the winter!
  • ramzey28ramzey28 Member Posts: 130
I cant get off 17 to 17.6 mpg (taken from computer info -reset every fill up). Whether its highway or around town, dont change much. 17 is the number. I will say on the highway I go about 75-80mph. Car drives like great...

I did notice my brakes are no where as sharp when I bought it thru 3 months. Now they seem squashy (sp). I like a crisp feeling and Im not getting that anymore....any one else with that feeling or issue?
  • boiler1boiler1 Member Posts: 56
Last night I experienced an incredible test of the Pacifica's brakes. A van coming toward me turned left through an opening in a line of cars waiting to turn in the lane next to me. I was running roughly 35 mph and the other car turned about 30 feet in front of me. I instantly knew that no matter what I did, I was going to hit that stupid van! I jammed on the brakes, felt the pulse of the ABS and just held on for 4800 lbs. of eventual impact. Miraculously, I stopped (under full control) just an inch this side of the van. The car to the left of me gave me a "thumbs up", the lady in the van gave me a different finger (like I was at fault or something) and I just sat there thinking what a great vehicle the Pacifica was!!!
  • microrepairmicrorepair Member Posts: 508
boiler1; Glad to hear that you stopped without a collision. Did your pants change color? (To brown?) Sounds like it was one of those full moon experiences. I think that the full moon is tonite and I've noticed erratic behavior on the roadways every time there's a full moon.

Regarding the mpg numbers. Looks like we can't expect the Pac to do much better than the low 20's for highway mileage. That's disappointing. Oh well, maybe I'll have to wait to see how the new 300 does..
  • bjbird2bjbird2 Member Posts: 647
My FWD Pacifica regularly gets low 20's for mpg.
The difference in weight for FWD vs.AWD improves mileage and acceleration.
  • rcf8000rcf8000 Member Posts: 619
Has anyone seen any published figures for gas mileage and acceleration for FWD? All of the magazine reports I've seen are only for AWD. I assume more FWD cars are sold, but the magazines aren't interested in it.
  • dgirldgirl Member Posts: 3
I've seen this color listed on some dealer inventory lists, but I've yet to see it in person and it doesn't exist on Chrysler's website. I'd love to see it in person because I think I might choose that color when I buy a Pacifica. Does anybody know if this has been discontinued or what the story is with it?
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
...seems to have been replaced by "Magnesium Pearl" and ,along with "Stone White", is available with the Jade/Taupe interior.
