...thanks for the very comprehensive report! Our needs seem to match those of yours (minus the bomber model) which is why we can't stop considering it for our next family-mobile.

Shipo - Yes, it's a B-25 done up in the Marine paint scheme, so it's really a PBJ-1H.

Got any pics posted anywhere on the net?

One of the "important" features that also helped sell me on the Pac was the ability to carry my RC planes.
I have some 1/4 scale aircraft, and some large sailplanes(140"+ wingspan) that will breakdown and fit very well in the Pacifica.
It is nice to travel in comfort and carry the toys too!!!!

I just had mine in earlier this week for a few fixes, finally had the ATC display replaced as you have done and the most recent recall done. They asked if I noticed anything else wrong and I passed along that I have a "clicking" noise at slow speeds most noticeably when turning into driveways. They said they have tried a number of fixes with nothing seeming to do the trick. There isn't a TSB on the issue and not a recall item. Over on the Problems & Solutions board some people have talked about front end noise and replacing bearings but according to the service rep replacing the bearings doesn't fix the popping noise. Let's just hope that might possibly come up with a fix before the warranty period is up.

I just went to the NY autoshow on Friday. Three 2005 Pacifica's were on display; the Base, the Touring, and the Limited. All 2005 Pacifica's receive a gated shifter that is similar to the one used in the 2005 GC.

Base: The base Pacifica is the only one in the line-up to come with a bench seat. Naturally, the rear of the base Pacifica is very roomy; even with three across. The seats are covered with a cloth that is obviously cheaper than the cloth in the touring model and feel less firm than the seats in the Touring and Limited Pacifica's. The silver plastic that adorns the dash of 2004 Pacifica is used in replacement of the wood trim

Touring: The Touring Pacifica is exactly the same as the 2004 Pacifica except for the gated shifter.

Limited: The Limited Pacifica comes standard with 19 inch wheels and body colored molding. The overall effect is very nice. In side, wood trim is used on the steering wheel, and the doors, and more liberally on the dash. I believe that unlike the wood in the Touring model, the wood in the Limited is real. Moreover, I believe that you get a choice as to what kind of wood that you want (the wood in the Limited was a blond color so as to match the champagne color of the exterior).

Can you explain, never heard of that?

Very cool plane! But what I really want to say is that I agree whole heartedly with your earlier comments about the Pacifica. I'm almost at a year of ownership with 13k miles. Mine is fully loaded also and has performed flawlessly. My only complaints are the same popping noise you get, the non-illuminated cruise buttons, a sometimes finicky rear power hatch and really crappy gas mileage. This vehicle has worked wonderfully for me, my wife, three kids and all of our "stuff". Now, off to Lowes to get some grass seed and some lumber...in my versatile Pacifica!

I have been looking to get a new Pacifica so I was interested to see that the 2005 models were coming out. I recently saw an article in the Chicago Tribune that said Chrysler was trying to get rid of rebates by lowering the price of cars and adding more features. I specced a 2005 FWD Touring with T Package, Comfort/Convenience, Supplemental Side Airbags, Infinity 5.1 Audio. Traction Control and Power Moonroof. Its $200 more than a 2004 with the same options. The 2004 has a higher sticker, but has $3000 cash back. It also has the 0% financing.

Does anyone think that the beltline on the Pacifica is awful high? It is nice for exterior styling but on the inside it gives the feeling of being in a bathtub. This was the biggest turnoff of the Pacifica. The price wasn't that bad, and I could live with it being FWD however cautious I was about it- but the beltline just eliminated the Pacifica from consideration within minutes.
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
I'll be honest...when I first read stories about the high beltline (before actually seeing a Pacifica) I was concerned. I had also heard about the sightlines being more restricted and larger blind spots.

Once sitting in one, however, beltline concerns disappeared. I never feel like I'm in a 'bathtub'...no passengers have felt uncomfortable riding in the second or third rows due to smaller glass area.

As for sightline concerns, all it took was some time of driving. As with any new vehicle, the blind spots are slightly different and only took time to get used to. I now have no difficulty whatsoever driving the car, and am thrilled I own one.

you know, the seat moves up and down
  • cougar87cougar87 Member Posts: 30
Thanks for telling me I didn't know. Too bad I'm no longer in the market for an auto, and when I am it will very likely be a sedan.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
make sure that the sedan you choose doesn't have a high belt line. Maybe an AMC Pacer will catch your eye. It's not a sedan though, unless you locate this one:

Funny. I'm not that picky. Any beltline about the same of a '89-97 Cougar is fine with me. Something like that.

Just purchased a 04 AWD Pacifica. Looking for some molded splash gardes. Any help on one's that look good and do the job.
  • bjbird2bjbird2 Member Posts: 647
    Check out https://www.1stchryslerparts.com

    They have splash guards.
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
I had the Mopar molded splashguards put on my Pac shortly after I got it last summer. They make a huge difference in the ability to keep the lower section of the car clean, and I think you'll like 'em!
  • rasldaslrasldasl Member Posts: 74
The Mopar splash guards from the dealer look great on my Pacifica. Just make sure to get them in gray to match the other plastic trim on the lower body of the car. The black ones will not match!

Hello All! I have completely absorbed this site and want to thank you for such valuable insight. I stumbled upon the Pacifica last week after seeing a brochure at my sister's house. Test drove it the next day & FELL in love. Now I want one, but have some concerns. Please answer any if all the following:
    1) Gas mileage. I am a commuter, close to 170 miles each day. YUK-I know. Is the Pacifica truly a gas guzzler? Please tell me it's only the AWD & the FWD will be the way to go!
2)Should I wait for the 2005 vs the 2004 so I can have the rear sensors (or rear-view camera) or will I survive? I'm 5'3.
3)This is not a BIGGIE, but for those with the DVD entertainment system-is the 7 in screen adequate for viewing? It seems really teen tiny, but I found no complaints about it on this site.
Thanks for taking the time and I look forward to your responses!
  • pud2pud2 Member Posts: 20
We also commute a long distance, 160 miles a day.
Our "made in Feb.04"fully loaded AWD Pac now has a little over 4000 miles on it.
I get anywhere from 22.5--23.5mpg on the commute....I do not think that is bad at all!
Better than sticker on the mpg, what more can you ask for in a 4800lbs or so awd vehicle?
Also, the DVD screen is fine for folks in the 2'nd row, cannot say about viewing from the 3'rd row...never did that(yet!)
We LOVE ours, I would say go for it!!
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
I just drove ~400 100% highway miles in my Acura TL-S and got about 25mpg. I thought it was pretty good. Compare that to ~15mpg I get on the city streets. So your Pacifica's 22.5-23.5mpg looks really good to me.
  • noulletnoullet Member Posts: 9
Current odometer reading: 2789 total miles.

    1. Recent 300 mile round trip to Augusta, Ga., interstate driving at 70 mph, I averaged 24.0 mpg...

    2. I recently bought a K&N air filter and installed it prior to the trip. I was getting around 22.7 mph on another trip to Winter Park, Fl & return which was approx. 1100 miles total for the round trip.
In the city, I'm currently averaging 19.7 for my FWD.
I'm estatic to say the least. What other SUV with that kind of weight & safety record could surpass this ST. I also checked it out and the Pacifica is the widest of the SUV excluding the Hummer H2.

I too am in the market for a Pacifica. It looks like I'll be purchasing one this week. There is a fully loaded AWD silver 2004 coming BRAND NEW from the factory to my dealership. And I already have a deal with them where they are offering me 3% below invoice! And thats before the $3000 rebate. I will be getting about $8000 off MSRP price all told. Too good a deal to pass up I say.

But I digress. I wanted to tell mzmarlo that you can order the rear parking sensor to be installed on the 2004 model. I am thinking of doing that myself. Check out the webpage link in posting #1630. They have it there for $249 and then you have your dealer install it for you.

    Jack,
Could you tell where you bought the K&N air filter and how much you paid? Does this mess with the warranty?

My Pac with a build date of 4/03 is averaging 15.5 mpg. It's a loaded AWD, only thing it doesn't have is the nav system. It's silver w/taupe leather we liked it better than the dark grey.

Is anyone else getting this poor gas mileage with similar build date? It looks like the newer Pacs are getting better mpg.
  • rickstratrickstrat Member Posts: 25
I just got my filter from a site CluelessPA provided (www#4filters#com) and installed it the other night. One thing I have never done before was reset the mileage. While looking at the average mpg, hit the reset button. That instantly improved my gas mileage 2 or more miles per gallon! The computer calculates average from the last reset and after 12,000 miles, it was getting hard to improve it out of the 17.1 range. I felt pretty dumb for not doing it sooner. My wife was reading the manual on a long trip and "rediscovered" this feature. My mods to date are the filter, 6 dvd player out of a wreck, wiring for an external monitor (thanks to this site for wiring diagrams), trailer hitch, and some wireless headphones from EBAY. I've got an early build AWD with everything but NAV (I never need directions!) and factory screen (don't need with after market screen).

If you are looking at a front wheel drive Pacifica, and are concerned with feul mileage, then you might want to take a gander at the new Passat TDI wagon. This vehicle is EPA rated 27 city and 37 highway, got Consumer Reports highest rating for safety, and has 247 lb/ft of torque. Driving 170 miles per day this vehicle will save you over 3 gallons per day (about 65 gallons a month which with todays price is close to $130 a month) Diesel feul is usually cheaper (20 cents less per gallon where I live) so that would save even more money. These new diesels are amazing (most european cars, including bmw. Mbenz etc. are diesels now because they are so quiet, efficient, and powerfull).

The Passat will handle better than the PAC, and ride and quietness will be about the same. The Passat wagon starts at a little under $25k very well equipped.

I am not here to knock the Pacifica, it does have some advantages, like available 6 passenger seating, more ride height (if you like that), and a little more interior space. I just saw this newly introduced vehicle as something that would fit a long distance commuter very well.

I know some people are concerned with VW reliability, but is is similar to Chryslers, and the biggest issue is the ignition - which diesel engines don't have.

I am eagerly awaiting a brand new 2004 that was supposed to ship from the factory. Dealer told me the code in his computer shows that it is on a truck heading this way. But that was over a week ago and he is now wondering where it might be because it should have shown up by now.

He told me he heard a rumor this morning that the Pacificas are being held up and are not being delivered to the dealers? Has anyone else heard this or have any light they can shed on this for me? My dealer has left a message for his regional manager so that we can get more info on if this is true or not, but he has not heard back from him yet.

    Re: K&N Air Filter
    ------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------
I ordered mine at the 4filters.com site for $ 39.33 UPS ground 5-day total price including shipping.
Talked to a guy a K&N tech site and he said that the K&N will give you about 2% increase in horsepower and 2% increase in torque. He said he did not have any numbers on mpg but did say that people he has spoken to have come up with between 1 to 5 mpg improvement. Hey, I'll take 1 mpg increase for that kind of money...I've used K&N in all my cars and never once had any problems with the engine etc. My other cars are a 5.0 Mustang sedan & a Ply Grd. Voyager.

Estimated shipping date was 5 working days..

I purchased and installed splash guards myself from my Chrysler dealer, if you are handy at all, I installed them in about 2 hours. I did have to remove the rear wheels(one at a time) to install. They really should be standard !

The cost was approximately $55 each set (front/rear).
  • steelydan0613steelydan0613 Member Posts: 144
I agree the beltline is high, but that is just part of the package. I believe that the front seats are not that noticeable, but the back seats, yes it interferes somewhat with sightlines, etc.

I will say that the high beltline definitely contributes to the 5-star crash safety award the Pacifica earned.

The more you drive it, the less noticeable this is to myself or my family. The styling carries the day in this area, no doubt. I feel extremely safe in this car, as my last car, (Honda) was totaled in a foul weather wreck.

The Pacifica is not for everybody, but , to me, it's looks always make me look back at it after I park it............
  • steelydan0613steelydan0613 Member Posts: 144
Sorry, but I do not see how a Passat TDI diesel wagon can be as quiet as a Pacifica on the highway, back road, idling, or full throttle. Doesn't seem possible. The Pacifica is extemely quiet, I have even tried to start my already running Pacifica in the drive thru lane at my bank.............Try that with a diesel....I would like to have the Passat's fuel mileage.....
  • mzmarlomzmarlo Member Posts: 13
Call me vain, but I have a teeny tiny problem with driving a mini-van or heaven forbid a (station) wagon even if it comes in a diesel that will save me lot$ of money. I am stuck on the Pacifica, okay on the baby verge of becoming obsessesed (smile), but I want to make sure I look at the BIG picture and not miss some very important details that a buyer should be aware of.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
"Call me vain, but I have a teeny tiny problem with driving a mini-van or heaven forbid a (station) wagon"

"Image is everything" - Andre Agassi

Pacifica sure looks like a wagon to me - despite what they call it. I like wagons though, so I don't consider that moniker to be an insult.

    "What's in a name" - Shakesphere

You absolutely cannot hear the diesel engine while cruising, partly because it has so much torque that it is barely revving (2300 rpm @75 mph) - it may have just a little more noise than a Pacifica when idling though.

I was wrong when I said mileage was 27/37, and apologize for being hasty. It is actually 27/38.

Like I said - just offering an option that I thought might be attractive to a high mileage driver. In the end you need to buy what you are comfortable with.

Gas went up 8 more cents today where I live. ; )

I have been checking dealer inventories and it doesn't seem that most dealers have Pacificas in stock configured the way I would like to have it, at least here in South Florida. So it looks like I would have to order one to be built.

My RX300 lease is ending in November. When should I place an order for a Pacifica?

Also when I go to configure a Pacifica on carsdirect.com, I see something like this below. How come?

    Power Moonroof
NO LONGER AVAILABLE for factory ordering as of December 17, 2003.
    Rear Seat Video System
NO LONGER AVAILABLE for factory ordering as of December 17, 2003.
    Supplemental Side Air Bags
NO LONGER AVAILABLE for factory ordering as of October 21, 2003.
    Traction Control
NO LONGER AVAILABLE for factory ordering as of October 21, 2003.

I do love my Pacifica!!! It is a 2004 and I've had it for about 6 months. I have taken it on several long trips and am getting about 19.6 mpg on the road. I thought I should be able to get much better. Has anyone else found the gas to be any better or worse on the 2004 and is there anything I can do?
  • svevarsvevar Member Posts: 160
If I'm not mistaken, production of 2004 Pacificas has ended. Perhaps the temporary inability to order some options has something to do with the factory ramping up production of 2005 models?

I have only been getting about 15.5 mpg driving around and 18 mpg on longer trips. It's a bit disappointing especially now with the gas prices rising!

I'm looking at AWD Pacifica. Are people getting better mileage
with FWD? There seems to be a big spread. Some folks getting
    15 or 16, and other pushing 20mpg.

The only way to get an accurate figure on your highway mileage is to reset the computer after your up to speed on the interstate and drive it for a hundred miles or so. If you drive around the city for a hundred miles and average 15 and then go to the highway without resetting the computer and drive another hundred miles your going to average in the first hundred miles at 15 and the last hundred miles at 23 which will show up on the computer as 19 miles per gallon. Always reset while your driving if you want an accurate figure. I sure miss the instant mpg on my 300m.
  • monark49monark49 Member Posts: 58
P.S. I generally average 23.5 from Gatlinburg TN. to Chicago, 5 or 6 times a year. And thats with AWD.

I don't see anything to complain about. I am getting worse fuel economy with my Acura TL-S.

I use 87. Does that make a lot of difference? Gas prices are outrageous!!
