The Toyota Prius uses a Garmin data DVD under the passenger seat. Is it generally impossible to substitute a European data DVD? Some US dealers are apparently telling folks they simply go to a European dealer for a new DVD-rom.
Since the Aisin navigation ECU uses a different operating system the DVD-ROM in Europe will not be compatible with US spec'd computer.
The point is whether any Denso or Navtech data set could be purchased/substituted to make the US-market Prius GPS operable on another continent. If you hear of anything, I'm all ears & probably not the only one. In the meantime, here's a thread on the Prius DVD-rom & its contents.

How can we get Toyota's attention?
If you have any questions, ask them here.
Question 1:
When will the new updated version be available and at what cost. Nobody can give me anything but vague answer.
Question 2
Can I just buy the disk in put it in myself, or is this a dealer only process.
Question 3
Is is worthwhile to update my onboard GPS or does it make more sense to give up and buy portable system from Garmin or someone
As for whether or not it's worth it... the question is what kind of problems are you are having? If you are missing roads and POIs (as I'd expect with a map disk that old), then I would think the system would be dramatically improved. My understanding is that the dealer sets the retail price so call around to different dealers and look for the best price.
I was told a few months ago $200, last week when I started this frustrating journey...they said $300. And when I asked for Service to see if I can "self-install" no one had a clue.
What irks me--and that is why I came to this group--is that I paid $2000 extra for my car, just to have the GPS.
Now I cannot get a straight answer from Toyota, nor the dealer.
GRRRRR
You can install the DVD map disc yourself. The navigation computer is located in the trunk on the drivers side. Simply slide the lever to the right and push the button to eject the DVD map disc.

00110-DVD07-GEN4 (86271-33047)
00110-DVD07-CY (GEN3) (86271-33037)
00110-DVD07-AVLN3 (2007-2008 Avalons ONLY)
Mine is version 2002...so it would be a big improvement!
Does anyone have a clue why this is becoming such a hassle?
Does anyone know what is involved--clearly Modern Toyota does not.
As I mentioned, after seeing that the disk should be in, I phone about two weeks ago. they did promise to order...nothing, nada, no information

DVD+
.
Here is how you do it:
You have to accept the initial warning first, then you follow the steps below (at any time, even while driving).
1. Press "Menu" button
2. Select "DVD", this will show you the version of the DVD.
3. In the joystick, press the arrows in this sequence.
a. Up
b. Down
c. Up
d. Down
e. Left
f. Right
4. You should now have the "Service" menu on the screen.
5. Go to override and HOLD the select button down until it changes color (maybe it beeps too, I have sound turned off so I don't know).
6. Press the "Back" button
This will allow you to enter addresses while driving and all other options normally greyed out. The procedure must be repeated every time you start the car, but it only takes a few seconds.
I hope someone finds this information useful, just remember, dont do this while driving, it is for the passenger.
(If this has already been posted I apologize, but I really could not find it anywhere else.)
I am wondering if there is a way to reset this? Are there any other things I can try that might correct this?
Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.
IF it is audio related then the unit in the dash must be replaced. The model number of the unit in the dash is 1700XX; I cant remember the last 2 digits. For this unit, the dealership can order a remanufactured unit from Fujitsu Ten or FTEN.
I hope this will help.
Press Set-up, Press General, Press Auto Screen Change - this has to be OFF, otherwise if this is ON, it keeps going back to the navigation screen.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate it.
Can I use it on 2002 Camry Nav Sys. (my original DVD is not readable any more)
Thanks
