The starter on a uzj100 is very difficult to reach. I have been told the intake manifold has to be removed. I don't know if that's true.
Eric
Any info on where to find one? I can't find any source at all.
(Or anybody wants to sell/trade?)
(also have a new 18" Bridgestone Dueler if somebody is interested - I'd sell or trade for a Dunlop Grand Trek)
thanks
Eric
Anybody has any first hand experience as to whether these are OK or not?
thanks

I have 5 rims around my house that are steel universal ones (lots of lug nut holes!). But your size and brake issue may make it tougher to find. Try a tire shop. Or eBay. Thanks,
Steve, Host
Unique wheel offer 17x8 steel wheel with 5x150 bolt pattern. They are the only one making them and when my dealer called last week they are out of stock until sometime early next spring when they start making another run.
They are available in 3 style. Black D window with fake bead lock look, Chorme 7 spoke wagon wheels regular black D window.
Discount tire quote me $53 each for 17x8 Black D window.
Lets run some numbers: say the rebuilt starter retailed at $400 (a local guy could probably throw in brushes and an armature for 25% of that but that would require some initiative on the part of vehicle owner) leaving $600 for installation. At say $85 per hour that means they billed him for 7 hours to swap out a starter. Maybe the dealer added in an "environmental charge" (you know, for all those toxic fluids that you have to dispose of when you throw in a starter).
Anything wrong with this picture??
Yes, the wheel size is odd. Did try many places already. No luck.
thanks

My indy got a set of oem belts for the alternator. There is apparently a specific non-ridged belt for my 97 LC. The toyota parts counter at first offered up a sets of ridged belts, but the service manager vaguely remembered a problem with whistling belts and found the right part number belts for my LC. Smooth belts and no whistling.
Looking for an '04 LC with specific equipment and color.
Is this vehicle that limited in production, or is it that demand exceeds the supply that strongly?
Want to purchase one after doing all the research... but want specific options and colors..
You might try doing a search on Longo Toyota's site. They're a very large dealer and seem to have at least 6-8 LCs at any one time (out of a total vehicle inventory of about 300 or so)

At the end of the day, I guess I can get used to the navigation system (although its mainly for show - not much day to day functionality), but I have to draw the line with the over the top 18 inch bling wheels. They just look too Range Rover/Escaladish. I realize the wheels are a $80 option, but it may very well be the straw that breaks a $55K deal. It seems tough to imagine that Toyota would force these "options" down the consumers throat.
Any experience out there on locating/ordering a "base" LC?
You're right though, those extras you mention do tend to bump up the cost quite a bit. In any case, enjoy your cruiser!
If he still can't find one, tell him to call you when the unit he needs to order for your consideration comes in.
Thanks for your response!

No matter what you decide though, I'm sure you'll be pleased with your LC
My LC has over 130K trouble free, didn't even replace timing belt until 128k and it still looked ok, although the serpentine belt was starting to look worn. Any others out there with higher mileage on V8 LCs, don't worry, you should get 250k from this engine, just look at all the Lexus LS400s with over 250K + miles. I use this LC to tow a 5000lb trailer and it puts the Suburban I used to own to shame (the Sub was pretty much worn out at 125K whereas the LC still drives like new.
Don't panic yet
Thanks'

I am interested in your question on how to improve gas mileage as I have been trying to figure this out myself.
My research indicates that an expensive air filter might help - will it, anybody?
Also a new (special) manifold would appear to improve fuel efficiency but it wont be worth the cost probably. Comments on the manifold - or any other ideas?
Not sure what the dealer will tell you. I always use high octane gas. I noticed that I did get worse gas mileage using the cruise control, especially in the mountainous areas. In the past I have experienced times with very bad gas mileage (around 11mpg) after a tankful, but I could never pinpoint the reason, and those times were not very often. Lately (past 4 months) I have not had a less than 15 mpg average (all city driving) tankful of gas. I use Mobil 1 5w-30 but I don't think that it would get any better gas mileage (especially 4mpg better) than conventional oil.
Did you notice any performance increase using the K&N?
Thanks!
Thanks
And BTW, seems to me that every year at the El Lay show, the LCs have more people crawling all over them than just about any thing else. Wonder how that 16cyl Caddy engine would look stuffed in to an LC
