nah, I just got this quote two days ago, and they won't have it in the dealership till the end of August/beginning of Sept. I was told they have two Ex AWD manuals coming in this month too. I guess most dealerships don't order many cuz people don't buy many. As for incentives, no I haven't seen any listed anywhere, but the price is good.

People write about their deal getting $x00 below invoice and then complain the dealer won't throw in the whatever. A few things should be considered.

Anything below invoice may not leave much margin at all for the dealer. Every day the car sits on the lot the holdback shrinks until it is gone and the only money to be made is money over invoice.

When the buyer quotes various online services, uncle Fred's deal, etc. and finally gets the wheel locks thrown in, that very well may be coming out of the salesman's small portion of the deal. The dealer doesn't "throw in" anything like that. Either it's in the deal or it isn't. Otherwise it's probably coming out of the salesman's money, which on a heavily negotiated deal may only be $100 or perhaps even less depending on what that particular dealer pays a salesman on a "mini" deal.

The point I'm trying to make is to consider all aspects of the deal. Look at your own business and consider where you'd be and how you'd feel if your customers came in and looked at a good deal and demanded more and then more yet again. I'm not suggesting you go in and just plunk down sticker but leave the last penny or two intact, without the heads pinched off them like the rest of the shekels.

Actually, it's not a "tax" but a vehicle license fee. For the past year, we've been getting a discount on our licensing fees (look at your last car registration renewal notice, and you'll see something called "VLF Offset"). Basically, you'll lose that discount and pay the whole amount, so what was once $150 to renew is now $250 to $300. Ouch!

This fee will be in effect starting October 1. So if you can, try to get your car before that time and save yourself $200 or so.

I was quoted $14,600 for a 2003 Civic LX auto. This was the first exchange between the online dealer and myself. How much lower can I get the price if I wait til september?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
What do you want anyway? That's hundreds below invoice!

Supplies are getting low. Wait until September and you might not be able to find a car!
  • wiphillyfanwiphillyfan Member Posts: 10
I got mine for 14 even. The dealer first quoted $14,600. I then went online and got a quote via email at $14115. Then I went back to the first dealer and they beat that price by $115. I wanted Navy Blue, they had the last order made and I'm getting it at the end of the month.

    14 + tax, plates, service fee = $14,860

    I'm in Wisconsin.

    Good luck to ya'.

The dealer isn't obligated to sell the car to you. But if they want to go that low, why not take it? They aren't gonna sell the car at a loss. And if they do, I want to be the one to get that deal.

Just got a civic LX auto w/o sidebags for 14k + tax + licence.

    Hope this helps.

I've been lurking for quite some time. However, I have been in the market for a Civic Si. A local dealer is offering a 2003 Civic Si (satin silver), for $17499. Is that a good price? or should I be able to get it cheaper?
  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
wait until the 2004 Si comes out. Once people see that it has factory ground effects and spoiler, the will want it. The 2003 will be allot cheaper. I bought my 2002 Si in January of this year with 8 miles on odo for $15500 out the door.

Hi. I am new to buy a car. I got an offer on 2003 Honda Civic 4door auto transimision LX. The out door price is $15200. I am living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Is that a good deal? If it is good, I am going to buy it this week. I appreciate any of your advice and suggestion. :)
  • wiphillyfanwiphillyfan Member Posts: 10
Considering that invoice is $15094 on that vehicle...that is a great price because the dealer is also throwing in the $500 manufacture to dealer incentive which they are not obligated to share with the consumer. Did you add any accessories? I got the same car last week and I added the keyless entry plus security system and I got it out the door for $15120. You're price is good either way...hurry before the 2003's become hard to find.

I first got $14 594 from carsdirect.com, but then one dealer emailed me a quote of $14 395 - sounds good to me. Even though Chicago area taxes are gonna raise the price :o((
Also is the lowjack anti-theft worth the $700?
  • mrowens42mrowens42 Member Posts: 15
Just came back from looking at a used 03 SI at Dodge dealer. Car has 7,200 miles, and appears straight. However, could not get a straight answer as to where it came from. Asking $15,800.
    Opinions please.

    Hi

I am buying a 2000Civic Vp Auto, keyless entry, CD, AC no power window, from a private party. There is a small crack on the windshield. She is asking $9000 for that. Is this deal good enough for this civic. Help me.

I think no matter where you buy, you only pay tax rate where you register it.
  • andrewdnaandrewdna Member Posts: 32
Do you guys take into consideration of the tires and service interval when negotiating for a used car private sales? I use edmunds and try to get a range between the dealer trade in value and the private sales but should i factor in tires which need replacing within the next few months and a major service interval coming up?

I know that they are making impovements to lx civic in 04. Is it better to get a leftover maybe at lower cost or get the new lx? Also where is there a good dealer in Philly/NJ or boston (friend in that area willing to drive for price) for best price?
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
I would get the 04. Better looks and 15" tires on the LX now. Go to www.hondacars.com for a look at the new sedan.
  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
I can name a few good dealers in NJ/NY/CT area.
I have bought from D&C Honda in Tenafly NJ, and Fair Honda in Dabury CT. Heard good things about Mahwah HOnda in Mahwah NJ and Nanuet Honda in Nanuet NY.

    17,408 OTD.

    1.9%

S-SRS is hard to find now... New from a Honda dealer, go for it?
  • richdiazrichdiaz Member Posts: 4
They just added Wheel locks, Floor mats, and Mud Flaps free as I have two dealers competing... I got the VIN # for this car and it will be delivered tomorrow.

Should I still have the other dealer order the same car or should I call it quits and take what I got?

2003 Black EX Auto with S-SRS
Wheel locks, Floor mats, and Mud Flaps
    17,408 OTD.
    1.9% @ 60 months, $2000 down.

    Take it?
  • wiphillyfanwiphillyfan Member Posts: 10
Why not get the LX Auto w/out S-SRS for $14k and like $15 OTD? Save your $2000 or send it to me :-) Not really much diff with EX and LX except for a couple of seconds from 0 to 60. Who needs a sunroof really? That extra stuff (wheel locks, etc...) its only costing the dealer about $100.00.
  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
why bother with the LX when Dx is even much cheaper. Who needs power windows and A/C anyway? No need for wheel locks as no one will be stealing those steel wheels off DX.

Heck Kia and Hyundai are even cheaper than DX :-)
  • wiphillyfanwiphillyfan Member Posts: 10
You can't drive around with no air cond. In my opinion the basics are pwr win/doors, cd player and air....those are the basic must haves.
  • 3c33c3 Member Posts: 76
A relative bought a 2003 Civic LX 4-door auto with side air bags for $14350 + $45 doc fee + tax and registration. This was on 9/1 in Sunnyvale, CA. The dealer only had two LX 4-door automatic on the lot, and another dealer had NONE. Didn't want to pay extra for the side air bags, but choices were very limited. That situation didn't leave much room for negotiation, but the offering price was already very good IMO. Finally got floor mats thrown in.

I'm driving a 1992 Civic EX with 164,000 miles, bought new 11 years ago. I didn't really want the moonroof, but I wanted the ABS.
  • richdiazrichdiaz Member Posts: 4
I really love all the -standard- options on the EX.

Well you didn't say STOP!!! So I guess it's a good deal.

And I certainly want side air-bags (besides my wife.)

    - j/k I'm not married :)

That is before tax, lic fees.

Is that a good price or could I go lower?
  • crv16crv16 Member Posts: 205
Just bought a 2003 Civic EX Sedan, 5 speed manual transmission (MSRP $17,520):

    Civic - $15,390
    All weather mats + $107
    Doc & Title fee + $129

This ended up being $662 under invoice, plus I took advantage of the 1.9% financing thru AHFC. With a $800 down payment, my payments ended up being $259/mo, for 60 months. Pretty darn cheap if you ask me....

Bought at Autofair Honda in Manchester NH.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Sounds like a very good deal. Enjoy your new car.
  • hollylanehollylane Member Posts: 1
This appears to be the bottom as to how low the dealers will go. I would have settled for invoice of $16,781 until I read Rich's post. The 1.9% financing is sweet icing on the cake!

Kansas City, Missouri area - went first to Lee's Summit Honda - UGH! High pressure, i.e., salespeople urging me to "bond with a car" and refusing to shoot straight about price. Wasted a lot of my time.

Got the Civic finally from Independence Honda. Worked out the deal OVER THE PHONE and they held the car with a credit card before I even went in to do paperwork.

Good luck Civic shoppers- hang in there!

I've had my Black EX for 3 days and I LOVE IT =). What color is yours? Is it a coupe like mine?
  • wiphillyfanwiphillyfan Member Posts: 10
    For $15,120 OTD, I love it...even without sunroof and VTEC :-) @1.9% 60m w/ $4k down = $194 a month...now that my friends is cheap.

$3k of my down came from selling my Nissan 1995 200SX SE 88,500 miles. I don't miss my 200sx ;-)
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Saw a silver 04 coupe today. Sweet. The wheels are VERY nice. New character lines. New rear bumper, taillights, and front grill. Looks more athletic than the 01-03 Civics.
  • 944s2944s2 Member Posts: 16
Got it today from Honda Auto Center of Bellevue, WA. Invoice was $17821 and I paid $16,500 plus TTL. I think the 2004 Si will be a bit nicer car but most likely won't have the 1.9% financing and certainly won't sell for this low price. I have about 80 miles on the car now and like it a lot. I bought it strictly as a work commuter to replace my trusty 178,000 mile '92 Si.

Here is history on this vehicle:

6/16/03 For sale at dealer in N.H. 6,880 miles
6/20/03 Sold at auction in N.H. 7,043 miles
7/1/03 For sale at dealer in Mass. 7,088 miles
    Price $15,500.
    Opinions, please.
The car appears straight, but has been on lot since July.
  • 944s2944s2 Member Posts: 16
Considering I just bought a brand new one for $16,500 I don't think a used one is worth $15,500. If you want this car offer them a lot less. Try $14K, or buy new and get the 1.9% financing, which is hard to beat. That alone saves $1000 over 5 years.
  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
I agree buying a used Si with questionable history for $15,500 is unreasoanble. Considering I bought a left over 2002 Si in January for $15,500 out the door ($14,500+tax+title+ registration), with 8 miles on the odometer.
Buying a certified used will get you slightly longer warranty, but also higher interest rate.
  • crv16crv16 Member Posts: 205
Yeah -- seeing that you can get brand new Si's at the dealer for $16,500, with no down payment and Honda's 1.9% financing it works out to a payment of 288.49 (60 months).

Compare this to your used Si -- $15,500 at 5% interest will work out to a payment of 292.50.

Even if you get it at $14,000, your payment would be $264.20.

Have your lovely wife read through the hybrid thread. My take is that the green image is more image than green and that as good fuel economy can be had from the Hx.
If the environment is the point, I'd say wait for another hybrid generation or two.

I just bought a 2004 Civic LX Sedan Automatic in Magnesium here in Rochester, NY.

    Car: $15,621.00
Fog Lights + Security System + Splash Guards = $994
    Plus 8.25% and fees

    Total: $18,104.74

Hope this is a decent deal.
  • dmspencerdmspencer Member Posts: 1
Dealer: Brown Automotive of Charlottesville, VA.
    price: $14,600
    transportation fee: $460.00
    tax: $458.64
    dealer business license: $30.58
processing fee for consumer services: $228.00
    OTD $15,826
    2.9 apr
    2000 down

I realize I paid a bit too much, but the originl sticker was $16,400, then marked down to $15,600.

I was surprised by the $228 processing fee - never heard of it before.

Also, the sales person never mentioned the cost of the extended warranty but merely mentioned the monthly payment of $266. It wasn't until the finance person tried to have me sign a $1650 4 year extended warranty that I balked. Final monthly payment ended up as $247.

In general, I felt they were trying to push something on me without ever explaining things more thoroughly. If I had to do things again, I would go to another dealer. I did get a quote through the internet of $14,600 from another dealer, and it was only then that the charlottesville dealer went down to $14,600, but later added on transport and consumer fees as "required fees".

I just purchased a 2003 Civic EX with side airbags, over the phone with Hersons Honda in Rockville, Maryland. I bought this car for my daughter who is going to school in Baltimore. I live in Omaha,Nebraska. I told them I would only pay the TMV pricing that Edmunds shows($16,738). Now here is the good part......they came back with a lower price($16,709)!!!! I consider myself a very good car buyer, but this has never happened to me before. Now I have to admit I have never owned Honda before, and bought this one because thats what she wanted. But when I'm in the market to buy a new car for me, I deffinatly will check out the Pilot.

can any one explain why it is so inportant to get a discount on a Honda has Honda not done enough already
  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
I don't think people are specifically looking for a dicount on just a Honda. If you workhard for your money, you don't want to just go out and blow it, be it a car, house, partying. It just happends that this is a car board and peolpe come here to get info on how to keep their hard earned cash with themselves. If you go www.homestore.com you will see tons of people looking to save on a house purchase.

This is the beauty of free economy -- Supply and Demand. If there is an excess of supply and not enough demand, prices will fall. If there is more demand than supply, prices go up.

As far as Honda doing enough, when is enough is enough in anything?
  • muffin_manmuffin_man Member Posts: 865
Has Honda done enough for what? I love my Honda, but it's not like Honda is saving the world.

Do you always buy everything for full price? No coupons, discounts, nothing? When we buy a Honda at a discount, we're doing them a favor, taking a car off their hands that they couldn't sell. When I bought my 2002 Si for $15,980, the window sticker said $22,500!!! They were marking up $3000 and they couldn't get it. They weren't doing anything for me besides trying to take me for a sucker.

A free market economy is a beautiful thing.
