i am getting following quote for 04civic EX w/o air-bag:
Your price for the 2004 Honda Civic EX Sedan would be $16,245.00 plus documentation fee of $99.00, 6% tax of $980.64, and plate fees

    is this a good deal?
    thanks-jb

The incentive is only on 04s. You get to pay it all for 05s. As far as $200 over invoice, that may be hard to do since it just came out. Good luck!
  • confusedtooconfusedtoo Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the info on the incentives.
It looks like I have a hard road ahead of me if I want to buy for a few 100 over invoice. Any suggestions on an approach would be welcome. I was thinking about calling a few dealers to solicit bids and go for the lowest.

Thanks blueiedgod for the correct term and advice on the pillar and roof.

Hey can someone tell me about the special edition. Is that dealer installed extras or installed in factory and what does it include went to honda.com and found nothing. Also i saw the entry above about the price and I admit i was confused because it seemed that the price quoted was lower then the EX. Any info would be appreciated
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
Me too, I would like to hear more about 2005 Special Edition Civic. I have never heard of it. I have heard of Value Package, which is a glorified DX. On other Honda models Special Edition was the top of the line package which included Leather, auto, ABS, Power everything, A/C, and some updated radio. Honda went with a different approach with the last generation Accord, where Special Edition, was just a nothch bellow EX, but with a sunroof. It was more like LX with sunroof.

If you are looking for information on specific models, vehicles, the best place would be the link at the top of the page for Owners clubs or the Smart Shopper Board. Any recent buying experiences here?

    Hey blueidgod & civic4,
Purchased a 04 Civic EX/4dr/auto/without side airbags/with destination.....price $16,169. Since I live 50 miles for dealership, the only thing I asked for and received (included in the price) was rear mud flaps. I made the contact through email and it was hassle free. It took awhile trying to get the color I wanted because there are so few 2004 left. I'm picking it up this weekend. Thanks for all the info you gave...you make this easy!!
  • draknondraknon Member Posts: 2
Purchase price was $14,261.00 and they had to do a dealer trade to get the color I wanted. This includes $9.95 Oil changes for as long as I own the vehicle.
  • thomasitothomasito Member Posts: 4
I have an `02 Odyssey and looking to buy an `04 Civic LX, Auto, Side airbags. Is what I've pieced together below accurate for a $16,410 MSRP?

    factory cost 13507
    dest 490
    dealer $1K plus 3% hold back 1492
    "list" profit 1411

If so, is $15K a reasonable target out-the-door (excl. tax&tag)?
  • jaa37jaa37 Member Posts: 67
15K seems too high. If you go to CarsDirect (assuming there are 2004 LXs available in your area), the price for AT and side airbags is $14,414. If you can't find better from a dealer, why not just use CarsDirect? They've always been helpful when I've talked with them (although I've never purchased from them in the end).
  • thomasitothomasito Member Posts: 4
    Draknon,
What options, charges, fees, etc. are (or are not) included in this price?
Out-the-door price (less tax and tag) would be very helpful to me.

    Thanks,
    Thomas
  • draknondraknon Member Posts: 2
    I didn't add any options.

The windows were etched by the original dealer, but I was not charged for them.

Purchase price was $14,261 which included destination. There was a $160 documentation fee which is average for this area. $23 to transfer the plate from my previous vehicle and 6% sales tax. This brought the OTD price to $15,310. I added a 60 month 100,000 mile HondaCare warranty which I was able to talk them down to $690 on, bringing my total to $16,000.

I was also handed two $9.75 lifetime oil change cards that I was told could be used on any vehicle by any member of my immediate family.

I know many here have chosen not to get the Honda Care warranty. This is my first new car and I will not have a lot of extra money to put into it beyond the scheduled maintenance

I had pre-approved 4.39% financing but the dealership was able to get me financed at 3.85%.

I purchased the car from Schroeder Motor Mall in Benton Harbor, MI. Everyone there was very helpful and never tried to pressure me or sell me anything I didn't ask for.

Just bought '04 VP Sedan (basically a DX with AT, AC, CD). Sticker was $14,925. Price paid was $12,258. I thought it was a very good deal. They also had '04 EX Sedan Automatic for $15,477 but it wasn't worth it to me for the extra $3k as this is just a commuter.
  • timbergaltimbergal Member Posts: 8
Mregor .. where did you get a price for 04 EX for $15,477, and did this include destination?
  • mregor1mregor1 Member Posts: 5
Price includes destination. Must add $89 for service fee and TTL. Wilde Honda in Waukeshau, WI. They had 11 to choose from about a week ago.

    Hi,car gurus,

I'm in the market for a 2005 Honda Civic
Value Package 4dr Sedan w/Front side Airbags (1.7L
4cyl 4A). Here is a quote I got from my local dealer:

    Invoice: $13832.24
    Sale Price $14,660.71
    Documentation Fee $269.50
    Vehicle Theft Registration $159.00

    Offer: $15089.21

I notice the Edmunds TMV price is $14726. So do
your guys think I can get a actual price better than TMV?

BTW,somebody says that the best buy time is between Thanksgiving and Xms,is that true? So wait one more month?

    Thanks,
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
Wait a month and try for at least $500 less than you have now.

If price is your main concern, the best prices are on the 2004's. See if any of the dealers in your area still have 2004's left over. You may not have a choice of color or options, but you can get an EX (coupe, no side air bags) for the price of VP with some skillful negotiations.

Oh, and tell the dealer to take off the VIN etching, since you are not interested, this will remove the $159 for "Vehicle Theft Registration." The window etch kit is $20 at Autozone if you really want your windows etched with the numbers.

So your experience with Huntington Honda was OK? I'm from Connecticut and am wondering if it's worth it to drive to Long Island for a car. The price is almost a thousand less than the next lowest offer. Seems almost too good to be true. Have you seen any complaints about the dealership?

So your experience with Huntington Honda was OK?

I bought a CR-V from them in August 2003 (actually the day of the Blackout). I got just about the best price I could find in the area (within $200 of each other), although I only looked at 3 other dealers (there are a total of 7 within a 20 minute drive). I walked in on a Friday morning and picked up the car on Tuesday evening (it was ready but I couldn't make it on Monday) even though a lot of their systems were down because of the blackout.

I took the ballon financing since they weren't leasing in NY at the time. The salesman cut $100 off the price after I signed because they were giving it to everyone who bought a car that day. The salesman alway called a day or two after I picked up the car because the F&I guy found a financing deal 1/4 point lower than what I signed for (must have found it after all the systems came back up).

The service dept is big and busy. So far I have only been in for regular service and they've had the car out really quick, especially if they know you are waiting for it.

    Best of luck to you.

    Hello all!

I am a first time buyer looking for a good dealership to go price shopping in the philadelphia PA area. I am not new to hondas, parents had 2 (current is 97 accord). I would love to get an Acc for myself but that may be out of my price range for now. I am looking for referrals for dealerships (except Phila honda) that others have had good relationships with. We have dealt with Wright Honda but I am not too crazy about their sales dept since they bought their car (love the service dept). Any ideas greatly appreciated! I am looking for a 03-01 civic 2/4 door EX w/ 2K down and a Beacon score of 762. Thanks!
  • timbergaltimbergal Member Posts: 8
I just purchased an 04 EX, automatic, with moon roof vent, wheel locks for $15,441, includes all dealer charges.

They did a switch on me after approving this price and refused to honor this quote which was in writing. It was a hassle for a day, but in the end with the offer in writing I think they sort of realized they had to.

For the price you are going to pay on the 2 year old used civic you can get a brand new 2004. Check out http://www.carsdirect.com and plug in your zip code. If there are any 2004's left in your area you can buy one (EX coupe, manual) for a little under $15K
  • kwietstorm6kwietstorm6 Member Posts: 11
That was a thought, I considered that age range in case I can't find any 04' AT's (tend to disappear in this area relatively fast) and I have given myself until 02/05 to get my down payment together. Also I wanted someone else to take that depreciation hit. Another ? is in PA the doc fee is $515! I find that to be ridiculous! Is there any way to get around that while going to a dealer?

    Hello all,
I'm shopping for a 2005 Civic Sedan LX AT. The best offer I have received so far is $15,563 here in Houston. Carsdirect.com target price is $15,622. Could I do better?

You spend to much time on http://www.fatwallet.com 2 year old used Honda/Toyota cost as much as the new. Why bother with the used one. This notion applies to cars the depreciate very fast. When I bought my Civic Si, the new one was advertized for $15,000 and a used one with 5000 miles for $16,000. I ended up buying the new one for $14,500. The manufacturer to dealer incentives on the new cars are better than on used, if any. Plus, if you are financing, interest rates on new cars are lower than used. Even if you got the 2 year old Civic for $1500 less than a new one, you will pay that and more in higher interest over the next 5 years, have shorter warranty, and will have no idea why someone dumped a brand new car after 2 years. It may be difficult to find a left over AT, but I am sure if you live near a major city, there are plenty of MT's around. Honda was meant to be MT, AT was an afterthought.

Hi all - I got a quote from a local dealer of $15,326 which includes the destination charge and options I wanted: cassette player, mud guards, and a chrome exhaust pipe extender (these come to about $340 retail, i.e., when you add them as options to "build my car" on the Honda site, so I'm figuring the dealer gets them for maybe half that?)

The current Edmunds TMV price listed for my area is $15,635, which includes destination but not the options. Adding the other charges: 3% tax, $398 documentation charge (normal here apparently), and $62 license to the quote I got brings it to around $16,200 out the door. What do you think, does this sound like a good price?
  • thekingtheking Member Posts: 107
I would refuse to pay the $398.00 doc fees..that is the equal of ADMU !
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
What state has 3% sales tax?
  • hester52hester52 Member Posts: 4
sorry to be so dense (or maybe it's just too early), but what's ADMU??
  • hester52hester52 Member Posts: 4
The 3% sales tax is only for cars, in North Carolina. (They call it "highway use tax"). For everything else, it's 6%.
  • kwietstorm6kwietstorm6 Member Posts: 11
    Blueiegod:

The reason I am looking for a used one is because for now I cannot truly afford the new one for what I want on it (EX model) Also I don't drive MT so it would have to be an AT for me. Granted the warranty time would be shorter but I have to get what I can afford as well. I want to do it in 48mo not 60. I have a FICO score above 740 w/ a little debt to income ratio so I am not all that worried about securing financing. I just don't want all my $$ tied up in a car note + insurance. What I really love is the 97 accord (parents have one) but that is too old a car now w/ no type of warranty (w/out buying an extended warranty). I am in a major city so I don't think finding what I want will be too much of an issue.
  • timbergaltimbergal Member Posts: 8
VA also has 3% on vehicles - higher on everything else.
  • thekingtheking Member Posts: 107
ADMU is additional dealer markup....this is usually a second sticker attached to car it might say"Market
Adjustment" It is a ploy dealers do to get more of your hard earned money. A dealer must do documentation so you can insure and register the car. I would pay no more than $50.00..this is a fee that you should not accept without negotiation !
  • jjgalassjjgalass Member Posts: 4
I received a price of $15,499+tax and fees for an 05 Civic LX Sedan with AT and no Side air bag. Price was by e-mail working with the internet sales manager. I have looked for an 04 but can't find any.

Is the above price good or can I do better? I live in the Atlanta Metro Area, price is from Lanier Honda.

    Any help/advice is appreciated.
  • hester52hester52 Member Posts: 4
thanks for this tip! My mental target price has been $16,000 (too much?), so negotiating this documentation fee would get it down to or below that. I'm not quite clear on the holdback thing - the dealer would have to order the car for me, so is this to his advantage and means he would get a holdback of supposedly around 2%? In that case, I would think I should be able to get it for below $16K.
  • 3c33c3 Member Posts: 76
Edmunds TMV is usually too high. A better reference is carsdirect.com, and even that is usually too high. Here are some prices for my area:

MT with side air bags: invoice $14,921, carsdirect.com $14,896

    AT w/o side air bags: invoice $15,422, carsdirect.com $15,397

I had a feeling that did a pretty bad deal on the new 2005 Civic EX SE 2 Dr.
I ended up paying 19.5k OTD. This is at Curry Honda in ATL. Somehow i had a feeling i a, paying more than i'm supposed to pay. How did i do?
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
What's that? I think there are only HX, DX, VP, LX, EX and SE. What kind of equipment does your car have? $19.5k does sound a bit steep for a Civic, though. How much were taxes and fees (in other words, how much was MSRP before the OTD price?).
  • 3c33c3 Member Posts: 76
Based on carsdirect.com, "Special Edition" is a ~$410 option for EX.
  • azureazure Member Posts: 4
It has a spoiler, 6 disc mp3 cd changer, leather steering wheel, and 15" unique alloy wheels. I believe the msrp was $18.3k
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
That is a pretty steep price. Did you opt for an extended warranty? Even if not, the Civic is a well-built, reliable car that should serve you well. Just enjoy it and drive it for a few years after it's paid for so you can get some of your money back.

So after destination fee, tax and title i'm paying about $500 more than carsdirect price?
  • 3c33c3 Member Posts: 76
    Carsdirect price includes destination charge.
  • jjgalassjjgalass Member Posts: 4
Just received this price from a local Honda dealer.

    $15,108.00 your price
577.00 doc fees (includes 199.00 for 5-year theft protection fee, we do this on all cars when rec'd)
    1097.95 7% sales tax
    19.00 Title
    3.00 Lemon Law
    $16,804.95 Your Drive Out Price

Anybody have an opinion on whether or not I can do better. Dealer refered to it as his "No-Haggle" price...whatever that means.

Carsdirect.com lists the Invoice price at $15,422. If there is a 3% dealer hold-back then their actual cost is $14,960. I don't think they would actually sell this car for a profit of $148. I guess that is where the documentation fees come in. Anybody agree or disagree?

So, is it a good deal????
