I forgot to mention the car was a 2014 EXL 4 door with Navi! The dealer I worked with did give back the full $1000 which Honda was offering to dealers on the back end which helped me over the line. As I mentioned other dealers who had these cars were also very competitive. If you wait until 6 pm to night - you just might get a true screaming deal!
A bit confused. The dealer added a fake document fee of $429, fake means the buyer recognized this fee as nothing more than added profit for the dealer. Unsure how a reduced document fee of $304 represents a savings of $125?
It seems odd that many folks who post on these price forums seem to allow, at least to some extent, dealers to continually succeed in increasing prices paid through the use of the bogus document fees. This is nothing more than a scam devised by dealers to deceive their customers.
Does anyone really believe it cost a dealer $429 to complete a few documents using today's highly efficient computer programs?
There is simply no reason for any buyer to ever pay a dealer document fee. The minor cost to a dealer to prepare the documents is simply a cost of conducting business, no different than heat, lighting, or office supplies. All such costs are included in the vehicle price which, for the dealer, is all cost plus profit.
Just purchased a 2014 Civic EX-L sedan. My Internet Sale price is $ 19,980 plus admin fee $199.95 The dealer was Honda of Tiffany Springs, Kansas City, MO
Ken, you are absolutely correct. I couldn't get anywhere on the document fee. The Out of state guys were charging $304, 345. Could have done Maryland for $299. I do often get the emails which waive it all. They were not budging. The issue was finding the right color or else there would have been no deal either way. The limited supply forced my hand. But I still got a great deal and yes I had to pay a bit more.
Got a Honda Civic LX 2014 for 18300 OTD. This is my first car buying experience in the US and was surprised to see that none of the documents that I got from the dealer have trim (LX) written on it. Is that normal ? 1. Finance agreement 2. Purchase Agreement 3. Buyers tag receipt 4. Odometer disclosure statement 5. Application for Title. I also got a Honda Car Maintenance plan - M046 for $1200. Is that worth it ? How much will it cost me if i get regular maintenance done twice a year at any honda dealer. My car is going to run for less than 5K miles a year. Appreciate any thoughts/advice on this.
Par10, you might want to turn in the maintenance plan if you can and get your money back. Hondacare can be purchased over the internet for a few hundred less. It is good at any dealership. Dealerships such as saccucci Honda and other advertise on the net and discount these programs. Also, when you need your airfilter changes (around 15,000/20,000 miles) you might consider purchasing and installing a K&N airfilter (about $45 bucks) it will last the car's lifetime - and save you $$$ if you keep the car for 10 years. Enjoy your new Honda, it should last you a long long time. Just gas and oil. What a great car!
Hello! I'm in the market for a Civic EX coupe... Tried to look up the differences between a 2014 and 2015, but I don't really see any differences when comparing them. One CSR on chat said that its the MP3 jack/Aux jack and more room - but isn't it the same car and I was surprised that the 2014 doesn't have the jack when the 2008 LX has one....
This is my first time buying a car - please let me know which one you'd recommend and what price I should expect to pay?
Honda was giving another $1000 back in hidden money on the 2014's, I don't know if they still are. But there really are no differences in the cars - except you'll may more in personal property tax (if your state has one) on the 2015's. If you plan on keeping the car more than 6 years - stay with the 2014. If you think you'll be out of it before then, go with the 2015 because of the heavier depreciation hit you'll take with the 2014. - As for price whatever RIPOFF car (true car) or Edmund's price comes back with for your area, I would look at - at least $1,000 off the price they quote. Keep in mind the dealers "document" fee's. The final price of the car will have those charges in it. When buying mine recently there was no budging, but with Black Friday right around the corner and the end of the month 2 weeks away plus the potential for some additional Holiday cash - you could get a great deal. After getting your prices - directly email the individual dealerships and see what their "best price" is. If there are deals to be had, you'll see it in the direct pricing.
Bought 2013 Civic LX for $16500 (OTD) in northern VA yesterday. There was an incentive of $500 for recent college grad. Hope it is good deal. This forum helped a lot on a target price.
can you please post the breakdowns? and dealership information?
Thanks to all on the forum for sharing. Just picked up a Civic LX from a dealer in MD. Went through the PenFed car buying service and got online quotes. Prices quoted were much better than the Costco auto program.
Base price - 16983 (includes destination charge) + 6% MD tax + 279 (Tags+Title) + $300 dealer processing fee = 18,600. Sales person was very nice. Was able to get Honda to finance at 0.9% for 60 months. Dealer threw in free Nitrogen fill for which they wanted close to $200.
dealership info and salesperson name would help me. Thanks.
1sebringnow is correct. The True Car and Edmunds quotes you get are HIGHER than what you can actually negotiate. I have been able to negotiate hundreds less, and as much as $1,100 lower than True Car's "certificate" on a car with a $26K sticker. You have to keep in mind that True Car and others must get between $50 and $100 for each car that is sold with their recommendation or price certificate. I know Carsdirect.com used to get $100 for each car sold through them. I know because they told me on the phone when I bought my Integra back in '99 with the Carsdirect price. I was their 10th person to buy a car when Carsdirect started out.. This is why you see ads and links for "find your car" or "find a dealer" pretty much everywhere you go on the Web nowadays.
Just don't visit the Dealer. Send them an email with an offer if you know what car you want. Then go in for a test drive. You are not obligated to purchase if you have negotiated a price. Or test drive first, walk out, and the next day make an offer on the car via email if you really want it. It is easier to talk them down and get a fair price this way, than face to face at the Dealership on their own turf.
Paying low prices makes it easier for everyone to negotiate a fair price. If some or most people pay high prices for their new cars, then that makes it harder for the rest of us that know how to negotiate, to try to get a car for invoice (or less).

Truecar makes $300 bucks on each transaction. The CEO a few years back made a big pitch to dealers and promised not to share what the local discounters were selling their cars for. The dealers were not happy, so instead of protecting the customer, the greedy SOB decided to stick it to the buying public.
Any time I can slam this cheap sleezy organization (my opinion) I will. When a CEO takes full page adds out proclaiming how he will protect dealers all the while stealing $300 buck from a customer all for the sake of getting a "true car" deal, I say, never give truecar a dime. The fact that Consumer Reports uses True car made me drop the magazine. Cheap, sleezy, anti customer = Truecar. Keep the $300 bucks and never use TRUECAR service.
@1sebringnow I am currently looking to buy a 2014 Honda Civic EX-L (no Navi). Did you just pay $21,240 including all the options you listed plus tax for EXL w/ Navi? Currently a dealer at Dallas, Texas quotes me $22991 for the OTD price (6.25% sale tax rate here). I don't think this is a good deal for year end model sale compared to the price you paid back in October. Just wonder how much I should expect to pay for 2014 Civic EX-L now. I appreciate it if you can give me some suggestion.
Hi guys, What's the Florida money factor and residual value for a Honda Civic 2014 EX-L with Navigation?
Also, for Florida folks here, is $595 the correct cost of TTL fees (Orange County) ? This will be my first car in this state.
Lastly, I wanted to ask about the mileage allowance, I don't see people discussing the mileage here, is it always assumed to be 12k or 15k when prices are discussed on this forum?

There aren't any assumptions when it comes to leases. Although, I'll have to assume you want 36mo, 15K/yr, because you didn't say..
.00011 MF and 50% residual for the sedan. $1000 dealer cash.
Actually you are correct, I want a 15k/yr So how do I factor my annual mileage when I calculate my monthly lease ? Does the residual value decrease when the mileage allowance increases?

Correct, though 15K is the highest mileage allowed in a Honda lease.
Thanks kyfdx!

I did not purchase make the purchase but was able to negotiate a price of $19,000 (not including taxes, destination & title) for 2014 Honda Civic EX with quite a few dealer options adding up to ($1800 at least the sticker price for which I believe the true value is about $800). Just thought I will share this to benefit anyone looking for a 2014 Civic since 2015 is not significantly different.
I have a question, is the $1000 lease cash posted in this thread the same as the $1000 dealer cash found on the Edmunds website and mobile app (see screenshot below)?
In other words when I calculate my target price, do I subtract a total of $2000 from the invoice price? I'm also planning of subtracting 2% of MSRP for holdbacks, is that a good formula to start the negotiations from?
that's weird because there are two separate dealers who quoted me the Honda Civic EX-L with Navigation at around $21300 (the MSRP is $25030 and invoice is $23336). So that's about $2000 less than the invoice. Could it there be more hidden incentives that we are not aware of?
I'm not sure if I'm doing the math incorrectly or the deal is good. They both are charging around $700 dealer fees though but that still puts the net price $300 under the dealer cost.

It's entirely possible there are more factory to dealer incentives that we don't know about but the dealer is including in their price.
