Can you tell me what the latest money factor/residuals are for the 328i sedan for 10,000 and 12,000 miles for 36 months? Thanks! I've been presented with 61% for 10,000 miles and a MF of .0017, so I think I'm getting hosed.

$2000 option credit cash. They are marking up the money factor the maximum allowed.

Sorry, what specific model of 3-series is this for? We would also need the MSRP and selling price to see what the numbers work out to with $0 down.

This is the standard national lease offer; you may be able to do better by negotiating a lower selling price in addition to the $2000 credit - and checking that the dealer isn't marking up either the money factor or the acquisition fee.

I was recently quoted the following for a 328i with moonroof, 36 months/30K miles, in California. What do you guys think? Seems to me the money factor is a little high, and maybe the price could come down by $1,000 to get closer to invoice.

    MSRP: $39,275
    Capitalized costs: $35,150
    Money factor: 0.0015
    Residual value: 61%
Lic.Reg and other fees at drive off: $1,851
SF Sales tax is 8.75%, so monthly payment will be $434

Money factor is marked up from the base rate of .00130, so you could save on the monthly payment that way. You can also use multiple security deposits to further reduce the MF.

Looking for some general leasing wisdom... I have a 2011 328i x-drive and the lease is expiring in October 2014. I have been approached by my local dealership who says that BMW will pay six payments.

My question is more based on past experiences. Is is better for me to wait as long as possible, with the thought that the deals will get better as the year go on, especially if I don't mind a 2014 model? I am also thinking of getting into an X3, so that might make a difference.

    Thank you,

    Thank you,

The pull ahead program is scheduled to run through the end of the 2nd quarter, so no rush on that front. However, lease programs can change from month-to-month, so there is always a gamble.

As far as the X3, the 2015 models are out now, or shortly will be, right? So, the inventory you see at the dealership for 2014 models might be all they will get. They've increased incentives on the X3 over the last couple of months, and the deals might get better, but not substantially. Of course, if you have a good cheap lease on your 2011, you might want to ride it out and take a chance.... if your deal wasn't that great, maybe you are ready to move on. A lot of variables, there.

Also, the sooner you get a new lease, the sooner you have to do the next one (which isn't always a negative, if you get the new car bug). The X3 also has a 4-cyl turbo vs. the inline-6 in your vehicle (if that sort of thing matters to you).

Thanks, I am thinking I will wait it out a little and see what happens, interesting but on the BMW site, they aren't even offering the 2014 X3 as a lease special... I guess I am gambling that the deals will only get better, but who knows. As far as the engine size, that might matter, I haven't driven the X3. The major reason for the change from the 3 series to the X3 is ground clearance, I drive this mostly in the winter.

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 264,159

Yeah... to be clear, any new BMW you lease is going to have the 4-cylinder turbo as the base engine.. If you like the 6 better, you might want to hang on to yours a little longer. Also, no chance of needing that ground clearance by October.. :p

First Post- I am looking at a 2014 335i xDrive. MSRP $58,330 with Technology, M Sport, Premium, Cold weather and Driver assist packages. I am a current BMW owner looking to get out of a 2008 535xi that I own free and clear and into a lease on this 3 series.

I would like to have the dealer quote me a 24 month 10k and 12k/yr lease. What MF and residuals should I expect? What other credits might I have available and how are those used on a lease?

I am totally new to leasing- what other variables am I missing from the equation?

    Thanks in advance-

.00130 MF and 69%/68% residual for 10K/12K, respectively. $1250 option credit cash.

36 month residuals are just 6% lower, and will result in a much lower monthly payment.

The biggest variable will be the selling price you negotiate, and making sure that the acquisition fee ($725 base) and the money factor are not marked up for extra profit.

Also, best to keep the trade-in as a separate transaction. Have them appraise it and cut you a check for the value assigned.

How much of a discount should I expect on a demo/service loaner with 2000 miles?

Does it make sense to lease demo vehicles? Are the residuals calculated the same way?

I'm looking at 328d sedans, and the salesperson said they may have a loaner in their fleet.

    Thanks.

The residual is the same as the new car program, but adjusted down to account for the mileage. There is a per-mile charge, though it has varied, and I'm not sure what it is, right now. But, assume it's $0.20/mile, so for that car, the residual would be lowered by $400.

So, at a minimum, for the demo to be a better lease deal, it needs to be at least $400 cheaper than a comparable new unit. I'd want more than that, though.. I've leased two different demo/loaner BMWs, and saved quite a bit, over a new one. But, the units I leased had 10K-11K miles, and came with much bigger discounts than new (and lower residuals, as well).

I have a quick question about the upfront fees: is the destination fee as stated by edmunds (in the price and build section) of $925 different from the acquisition fee of $725?

I'm negotiating on a 328 w xdrive msrp $49,825. The edmunds true market value after incentive plus the destination fee and the ad fee is $44,342. Does the acquisition fee get tacked on to the $44,342? Are there addition fees as well? The sales person's first offer included a money factor of .0018 and no mention of the $2k incentive so I've lost all confidence that he will provide me with any honest answers at this point. Thanks!!

Yes, the destination fee is different from the acquisition fee. The destination charge is on the sticker and is the same for every BMW sold in the US.

Yes, the acquisition fee of $725 is added on to the $44,342. Not sure about other fees; some are state mandated, some are added by the dealer.

The MF of .0018 is marked up from the base rate of .00130, so you'll want to negotiate on that.

If the dealer is marking up the MF and not mentioning the $2K incentive, it may be time to try another dealer.

When is it the best time to lease a 328xi? Does BMW have a specific sales event where they offer deep discounts or incentives? I still have another 13 months to go on my current lease so I'd like to time it right.

Not sure there is a 'best time' - as the model year unfolds, residuals tend to go down, but manufacturers may also reduce the money factor to compensate. And, there may be special promotions offered but we have no way to know when they may be available in advance.

BMW is running a 'pull ahead' program, but your lease has to end before 12/31/14 to qualify.

hello. i was wondering how the incentives listed on the bmwusa site worked.
    i negotiated a car $3k down from MRSP of $48,475 to $45,475.
do the incentives drop it another $3k ($2k option allowance + $1k college grad) to $42,475 as final cost of the car...not including the other fees?

    Hi - Can I get MF + Residual for a 328d X-Drive? 10K/36-months?

Am I correct that there is a $500 Eco + $1250 Option Credit on the 328d (vs. the $2000 Credit on the gasser?).

    Thanks!

EDIT - Wait, I saw that the 12k/15k was posted a little earlier this month. Am I correct to assume that the 10k mileage would be 3% higher residual than 15k & 1% higher than 12k?

    Meaning for a 328d X-Drive:

    MF: .00130
    Residual: 62% (for 10k)

The college grad might be a rebate, but the option allowance? Did you mention it in negotiations? Negotiating a price, then expecting them to drop it even more, with no mention previously... is just asking them to say they already included that in their price.

I have finalized negotiations for my 328 and will sign in a few days. I will post details after signing.

If I want to do MSDs, do I simply mention it before I sign the lease papers? Are they required to oblige or can they say no we will not go below .0013? Also, is there a $100 incentive for using an Amex? How does one go about mentioning this, if it exists?

    Thanks!

You should let them know ahead of time that you want to do MSDs. It may impact their payment from BMWFS, a little... They do not have to oblige. If you haven't mentioned MSDs, then you really haven't finalized your negotiations.

No info on an AMEX incentive.. it's the first I've heard of it.

Very helpful thanks! Can't recall where I saw the Amex deal anymore, it may have been a third party website.
  • konacougkonacoug Member Posts: 196

Purchasingsoon...they can not refuse to allow you to use MSD's. It is allowable with BMW FS. But, you should let your CA know that you plan on using MSD's. Many dealers will try to dissuade you, basically, it cuts down on their profit, less interest paid!

Finally, it sounds like you don't quite have a handle on your deal. Always negotiate from invoice, then subtract incentives. Otherwise you will find yourself arguing with them about the deal. In addition, don't allow them to jack up the money factor. I have seen lots of deals, where op's have gotten a decent sell price, but then gave into the higher money factor which cost them $1500-2000. So much for a below invoice deal. I have no idea where you live in the USA, but there are good dealers out there, that offer no nonsense deals, everything disclosed and above board. Also, in the finance office, they will try to sell you all kinds of crap, tire and wheel insurance, dent repair, on and on. The smart move, is to refuse all of that stuff.

If you are on the West Coast, lots of good dealers in the LA area. If you are on the East Coast, you can always do PCD delivery.

anyone near houston know a good dealer to talk to? even in a near-by city would be fine. can't seem to find anyone in town willing to budge from the MF of 0.0017...which can pretty much kill any deal... =[

How does the $2150 due at signing break down?

They are offering you the base MF, which is good. Selling price could be a bit closer to invoice (before the options allowance is factored in). Residual is spot on.

Is the payment with or without tax?

Hi @Michaell@Edmunds, heard back from the dealer:

$2,149.06 upfront ($513.38 first month, $349 doc fee, $875 Bank fee, $326 MV, $85.68 sales tax on upfront fees)

Do folks here have any experience with fitting one to two car seats in the back of a 3-series? Do I need to suck it up and go for a 5?

The bank fee is marked up from $725. And, no money down towards cap cost.

Thanks again. Does it make sense to put any money down towards the cap cost reduction? Typically better to spread it out over the monthly payments, right?

Based on this build and money down, what kind of monthly payment could I realistically expect? Is $475 crazy talk?
