We don't have any lease information on the Plug-in Hybrid. If I had to guess, the deals will be better in California than Iowa.

Is that deal $0 down or $0 out of pocket? There is a difference.

Thanks. No that is $0 down towards cap cost reduction. $640 out of pocket, which is first month payment + DMV.

Thanks. I was quoted that MF, but the residual was something closer to 57% and I thought that the residual was set by Toyota. Can the dealer change this?

The dealer is not allowed to modify the residual as set by the bank, but they are allowed to use numbers from different banks. Confirm with the dealer which bank they are using.

I am just starting to shop for a Prius Five in Simi Valley, CA - local dealer is telling me that the 24/12 residual is 65% rather than the 70% I am seeing quoted here which makes a big difference in the payment as shown below. How do I convince him that the 70% residual is the right figure?

Toyota residuals work differently than those from other manufacturers - not all options are subject to residualization.

That said, the bank sets the residual value and the dealer is not allowed to modify it.

They could be using a different bank than TFS ... double check that.

And, there are a gazillion Toyota dealers in Southern California ... check with a few others to see if you get the same story.

Something's not adding up. Doesn't matter if I use the "base" MSRP or the "total" MSRP, I get a payment much lower than the $309.75 you're showing. With the base MSRP, I get $269.28/mo before tax; using the total MSRP, the pre-tax payment is $248.54. Both assume .00001 MF and 56% residual. The residual is applied to the bottom line number on the window sticker, including destination.

Why is sales tax shown twice? In CA, only the monthly payment is subject to sales tax.

Also, you show drive off costs of $650, yet $0 out of pocket. Which is it?

Thanks for your response Michaell - I took out some of the confusing line items and changed the residual calculation to use Sticker MSRP below. I included the $650 acquistion cost in the Net Cap Cost and come up with a base payment of $287.28. This assumes that I will pay the license fee and 1st month payment out of pocket. Does this look right now?

Acquisition fee is set by the bank and cannot be waived.

36/15 residuals are 59% for the 3 and 56% for the 4 or 5.

.00001 MF for all trims.

I have been trying to get a Prius for about a week now. Toyota dealers in Georgia have been an extreme PITA compared to my other buying experiences. Absolutely cannot get anything over email or phone, have to be in person. And then the numbers they are quoting are absolutely horrid. May start trying a state over.

Thank You again. I also did some calculation, and came to almost same numbers. But when I looked at the Edmunds Price Promise and received the offer certificate and the lowest selling price is 21975. But looks like this is for retail purchases. If i add this purchase price to my calculator the lease terms payment comes out be 180.78 + tax.

Not sure if i can negotiate on this price. Thought?

I need some help...I have been lease shopping here in Atlanta GA. Georgia has a law that when leasing you pay sales tax and ad valorem tax upfront. On a Prius four with a MSRP of $31,700 the tax is about $2300. Has anyone leased in Georgia and can confirm this is true or how to get around it?

They are also using a 59% residual and a money factor of .00093 Are these correct?

They are discounting the MSRp by $4k, but with the tax and other fees the cap cost is about $32k

The payment they are quoting is $449/mo. which I think is absurd. I am trying to figure out how they got such a high number. I calculate a number around $350, but I would like to be at $300 or lower. The tax on these lease deals are really causing an issue getting a good deal.

Any advice?
