Anyone have residual and mf for a 2014 CX-9 (Touring AWD if that matters)? Looking for 36 and/or 39 months along with 18K and/or 20K miles a year. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Am I crazy, or does $295/mo with nothing down (would pay taxes in full upfront due to Texas and ability to write them off on next year's taxes) seem right using those numbers and a selling price of $29,990?

I have a more general question and this forum is kinda hard to figure out the most appropriate place to post this question. So, here it goes.

I bought a used 2008 Mazda CX9 for $24k and 35k miles back in 1Q 2011, $0 down. My monthly payment is $460. I have decided to sell and I can get $14k today while my loan is $11k. If I take that $3k in positive equity and spread it back out over the 36 months, my payment was really only $375/month. However, that is probably higher than it would have cost me to lease a brand new Mazda CX9 isn't it?

I've always been told that it's cheaper to own vs lease but that math isn't working right now. I'd love to hear some thoughts on this? TIA.

Well.... you bought a used car, not a new one, so it isn't exactly apples to apples... From a payment only standpoint, I doubt you could have leased a new CX-9 for $375/mo. in 2011, unless you made a hefty upfront payment.

Part of the financial benefit of owning vs.leasing is hanging on to your car for more than three years... so, you sort of missed out on that part of it, as well.

That's encouraging if it would have been $375/month only IF I made a big down payment as that would mean it was more than $375/month. Did anyone lease a CX9 in 2011 that could share more info on their economics? However, on the flip side, I would have been driving a brand new car so there is a trade-off.

It's pretty obvious that if I held the car for longer, there is more financial benefit.

I am not a math wiz but you paid 24K plus interest for the car. Now the car is worth 14,000. With these two numbers you an figure out the cost of the car per month.

I know of the $2400 lease cash - does this get given back to me or does the dealer reduce the selling price with whatever amount up to $2400?

MF of .00003 and residual of 51%.

The lease cash is most often used like a rebate - to lower the selling price of the car. Make sure to have this applied after you have negotiated your best deal.

.00028 MF and 49% residual for 36mo, 15K/yr. 50% residual for 12K/yr.

.00045 MF and 57% residual for 24mo, 15K/yr. 58% for 12K/yr.

I think the $2400 incentive applies to NC, but I have limited information on that.

None that I see; Mazda doesn't normally offer lease cash.

So using your numbers above, the AMEX truecar site and leaseguide site here is what I come up with, can you take a look?:
MSRP of $33,310, Agreed upon price from dealer: $28,736 (certificate from local dealer)
Costs added to lease (Acq fee): $500 (need actual but close I'm guessing), Money down (stipend from work): $2,000 , Lease cash from mazda: $2,400, Net Cap Cost: $24,836
Resid: 51%, MF: .00004, 36 months, 7% NJ sales tax
$172.99 month, $12.11 tax per month
TOTAL MONTHLY: $185.10

Depreciation $6,165, Finance (rent) charge: $63, Total Sales tax: $744, Total payments $6664
Total Lease cost: $11,372

They have a dealer doc fee of $399, Not sure about tags/titling: ????, delivery fee: ??? (varies)
prep fee: ???

Do I add these last few fees rolled into costs of lease? How did I do? What is liklihood I get the dealer to commit? Thx

There is a problem with your numbers.. Using $33,310 as the MSRP and $24836 as the CAP cost, I get $219.67. Residual is $16,988, so depreciation is around $7850, not $6165.

On another note, I would guess that the dealer has already factored the $2400 lease cash into his selling price. The acquisition fee is $595. Add $2495 back into your CAP cost, and the payment goes from $219/mo. to $289/mo.

Title/registration usually runs around $400 in NJ. Tax will be around $900. Dealer fee of $399. Roll those numbers into the lease payment, and it's $336/mo. You'd need the $2000 + your first payment at signing.
