@nyccarguy, When I read ab348's post, I thought you would be the perfect one to reply. Sorry I didn't notice it right away, I'm too busy watching the Yankees game.
GO YANKEES!
You do know that the Astros and the Yankees are just fighting it out to see who loses to the Cubs.
As a baseball fan whose team went 108 years in between World Series titles, one might expect you to be a bit more humble. One game at a time.

The PA turnpike is really expensive. 250 miles costs about $25. This was 3 or 4 years ago.
How do I know? The bill showed up on my EZPass statement and there were 2 PA Tpk trips on it.
I told my kid to take I-80 instead, a little longer, but a lot cheaper.
I don't want to make this too long because @driver100 has to get to bed.
As of January of this year the PA Turnpike toll is 9 cents per mile with E-ZPASS and 13 cents per mile using cash.
When PA started E-ZPASS they did not offer a discount for getting it. They figured the convenience alone was worth it. I was driving the pike every day but I didn't fall for that line so I decided to teach them a lesson. So I didn't get it.
To make a long story short because @driver100 has to get to bed, after about a month of sitting at the toll booth behind at least a dozen vehicles every night coming home from work, I figured PA had learned their lesson so I decided to let them off the hook and I broke down and bought E-ZPASS.
About 2 years later (I think) PA instituted the discount for E-ZPASS customers. I'm pretty sure my hold out helped to get the discount and I am proud I helped them see the light.
Oh, one more thing (sorry @driver100 I almost forgot about this. Glad I didn't). Driving I-80 in the Winter is not going to be too safe. That area constantly creates its own weather, lots of snow there this time of the year.
Nite, Nite @driver100

Thst Ezpass nonsense is a pet peeve of mine. MA, the state next door has eliminated all cash payment on the Mass. Pike. If you don't have a MA EZpass you get charged more. If you don't have any EZpass you get charged DOUBLE. So some poor low income sap like me gets taken to the cleaners.
Very discriminatory, very unfair.
They are doing the same thing down here. The only cash toll booths left down here in South Florida are at major junctions or major cities, and those will be gone soon. If you don't have a "Sun-Pass" transponder, they use you license plate (rear - we have no front plates down here) and they mail you a monthly bill. They add a service charge as well.
Sun-Pass users pay less than other users (15% I think). Pretty soon, EZ Pass users will be able to use their transponders in Florida and Sun Pass users will be able to use their transponders up north.
Just turned 8000 miles on the 740i and it runs, handles and accelerates even better than the day I bought it. Usually by this time into a new car ownership (8000+ miles) I start to become antsy - an emotion usually takes hold of my checkbook and wallet and I begin to research and drive new cars hoping to finally sit in my next car. Then another emotion or urge takes hold of me and I go into "consumer purchasing mode' by setting out to get the best deal on a car I've fallen in love with.
Yes - I get the urge to "divorce" my current car in order to "marry" a younger and even more beautiful set of wheels. But, not this time. I am still in love with my 740i and the "prenuptial agreement" I have with Bank of America (my auto loan) is sufficient to keep my nose out of new car research (except for car enthusiast purposes). I have become a "monogamous" car owner - I "look" but I've stopped "touching"!
Good grief - am I dying? They need to come up with a "viagra" pill for older car enthusiasts to rejuvenate the car buying urges. God help me if the pharmaceutical companies don't come up with a fix for this car "melancholia"! HELP! HELP! HELP!
No need for viagra, conversion therapy works great. As a petroholic, you may want to clear your conscience and use the pretext of saving the environment by buying an all electric vehicle. A BMW i8 or Tesla Model S comes to mind. With gull wings, the i8 is easy to get in and out.
I have no way of charging an electric vehicle. So it's gasoline or diesel - and I hate diesel because they pollute worse than gasoline powered vehicles.
That's certainly a survivor. Imagine, a 5.0 with 150 hp and 2:73 rear. Must be embarrassing to get your doors blown off by shopping carts. Considering the dried out parts that must need replacing I'd say it's at top bid right now at $1995.
Suprised it has an airbag. My 91 Oldsmobile didn't.
15k "indicated miles" does not mean it has not rolled over once or twice.
90/91 Crown Vics and Grand Marquis are typically known to have bad odometer gears as well. It may not have 115K but could certainly have more than 15k and the gears never fixed
Most Fords got a driver's airbag in 1990
I love those models (an 89 was my first car), but that Woodrose over Brown has got to be the worst color they ever put on them
The odo gears on my 95 Lincoln went at 96k but by that time they didn't make replacements.
Mike, after all you have made it through, you should have just laughed yourself to sleep over a piddling little fender scrape.
Put yourself in my place. You finally got the car you have lusted over for many, many years. You have 151 miles on it. You go to a tint place and an employee not only scrapes the bottom of the left lower fender, but also pulls the bumper away from the fender 2-3 inches. I was totally crushed! It was like one of my children was seriously injured so that he couldn’t walk.
Yes - it’s just a car - it can be replaced - but it still hurts real bad.
The Mercedes dealer removed the bumper, replaced some brackets and a chrome piece, and then aligned the lower bumper and replaced it on the car using new clips. I can’t tell if was damaged and all the sensors, cameras and radar beams are operating normally. The service manager said this happens frequently to cars down here in Florida where 99% of all parking is pull in to a parking stoop. This S450 has the $6000 AMG sport package which includes lower front and side body moldings. So extra care must be taken when pulling into a spot. I will raise the car using the air suspension system every time I park.
I just pray the front end is adequately repaired. When I drive up to my brother’s next week for Thanksgiving, I’ll find out.
It really sucks. I hope it’s fixed right. Even with my way cheaper cars i would be a wreck. But I’m curious — if you lusted after it for many years, why buy the BMW a year ago?
My twin brother talked me into it after I had that liver resection. He had bought a 740i and told me it was a great car. Do I listened to him. This time, I listened to “me”!
"YOU" have to put yourself in my spot - you partially own (with an emphasis on "partially") a 2017 BMW 740i with 11,400 miles on it. You have a loan with a bank that has a payoff of $21,910 on the BMW. The dealership puts a cash value on the BMW of $56,000 less the payoff of $21,910 leaving you with $34,090 of equity in the car once the loan is paid off by the dealership. Remember, each and every month, your equity is decreasing due to depreciation by about $800.
I would assume that the monthly payment on the BMW loan would be greater than the
monthly depreciation. Otherwise you would never own the car regardless of how many
years payments were made. Therefore equity must be increasing each month. And at the
end of the loan, you owe nothing and the value of the car is your equity.
Not quite - my monthly payments on the 740i were $384 per month with 5 years remaining on the loan. So the car was depreciating faster than the value of the payments. By the end of the loan, the car would be six years old and would be worth $22,500 give or take, if I was lucky.
Look - I leased a car with a huge cap cost reduction to get to $600 a month + tax - something my monthly income could handle, without having to withdraw money from my bank - but will be able to deposit $8200 into my accounts.
May I vent?
One of the maxims I use frequently in the various lease threads is "a good lease deal isn't so good if you don't like the car". We get lots of folks asking questions in threads for different makes and models, looking for that 'perfect storm' of residual, money factor and lease cash. I tell them that they need to go and do some test drives to see what they like and ... what they don't like.
Anyway ..... a guy got an absolute killer lease deal on a Jaguar F-Type - a payment in the $600's for an $80K car.
Well, guess what. He doesn't like it. It's too slow.
This. Is. An. F-Type. Too slow? (he must be related to roadburner)
Now he wants to trade it in for an F-Type S or R (can't remember which). Told him it would be massively expensive to trade in after only a few months. He's going to look into swapalease, or potentially chip it for more HP and torque.
I'm floored - and, I did ask him if he test drove both models before signing the paperwork.
To quote Phil Mickelson, he responds "I'm an idiot". The lure of the fantastic monthly payment blinded him to the shortcomings, which he either didn't know about or didn't care when signing the paperwork.
You run into all sorts, eventually.
\end venting
Driving a car you love and having a payment you are comfortable with aren't mutually exclusive. If it were I should have leased an S90 or a Mercedes Benz C/E Class loaner. As @28firefighter noted some people are so blinded by the $400 payment on a $60K+ car that nothing else in that moment matters.

What's with all the duplicate posts? Marco, never a shrinking violet, is in a class by himself. Anyway, now I know why there were 66 new posts this morning.
I had a Rampage! I think mine was a 1983. I bought it from my best friend's dad about ten years ago when he was 90! He was the original owner and it had 24,000 miles on it. It was dent free but the silver paint was dull. I paid him 2000.00 and another 500.00 to have it shipped here from so Calif.
Most parts were original including the tires that were rock hard! All of the rubber parts failed including wheel cylinders, rear seals and the shift linkage gromments. The dealer told me that I was buying the last of those shift gromments and that they were no longer being produced. After getting a 4000.00 estimate for a paint job I decided to dump it. I think I broke even. It was a goofy little truck that couldn't haul much.

Another quick update. I've been diagnosed with histoplasmosis. It is treatable with anti-fungals. However, two hours after the first dose my body had a massive immune response. My fever hit 108.5 last night.
The docs spent all day today figuring out a plan and they're confident that won't happen again.
I really hope not.
Holy Fahrenheit, FF! I have never heard of someone having 108+ Temp. I understand those high fevers can affect the brain cells. Terrible situation, FF. I'll be praying for a speedy recovery every chance I get!
I'm with you Mike, I never heard of a temp that high. Like I said before I've got to get out from under the rock I've been under.
@28firefighter, get out of there NOW and that's an order !!! And I can give them since I've been here longer than you.

Here's a couple pictures of the group of cars participating (not the complete group).
So it's not just Jeeps that have that club feeling going on.
I've had a few Mustang owners wave at me but in the Corvette I mainly got stupid kids in C6s who didn't realize they were trying to race a 25 year older C4 with half the horsepower. Kind of like trying to prove their manhood by starting a fight with an old man.
Kinda reminds me of the young (lately, everyone seems to fall into this category to me ) guy driving a mildly loud pickup truck a couple months ago that wanted to race my Genny. As I said, when I told this story right after it happened, I waved him off but he misread my wave-off and thought it was a go so he jumped to about a 2 truck lead at a light before I acted childishly and stomped on the peddle. At the next light, after being embarrassed, he wanted to know, "what do you have in that thing". My reply was, "more than what you have in that thing".
I guess the guy didn't realize he was picking a fight with my car instead of me. I'm sure he could have dragged my [non-permissible content removed] all up and down that road if we were out of our vehicles but we weren't.
Oh well, he was young but he might have learned something that day.

Both open houses are done, hopefully for good. We had 51 parties through between both days including several repeat visits from people taking measurements.
We have at least one offer already and expect more before our review deadline on Wednesday.
Man, 51 people, that's a lot. I've sold 3 houses and I doubt I've had even half that many people come through all of those houses.
I hope you allowed for replacing your carpeting.
Good luck but I don't think you'll need it.

The interior has perforated leather seats and double stitched accents. Bolstering is subdued. Almost everything is soft and squishy.
The center stack is good.
The area between the speedometer and tachometer is the info. center.
Rear seats are heated and A/C and heat vents go there as well as 2 powered USB ports.
This car has navigation with SiriusXM Traffic Weather & TravelLink, EyeSight (Pre-Collision braking, lane departure warning, Adaptive cruise control, Lane keep Assist), Reverse Automatic Braking System, High beam assist, remote start, and a CD player. These models all have, LED steering responsive headlights and LED taillights, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, blind spot detection with rear cross traffic alert, 6 cylinder 256 HP engine, LED fog lights, keyless access and push button start, a 576 watt 12 speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and probably other stuff.
We made 2 trips to Baltimore in the last week (360 miles round trip) to see the new grand son and it didn't miss a beat.
You're just trying to tick me off, huh? :@

GG, That was a good post about your impressions of European cars. Just an opinion, I think diesel really is cheaper there and the network of stations is all linked for trucks. Electricity is fairly expensive and you wouldn't waste it using it for cars....if you can use diesel fuel.

Thanks, Driver. Most gas stations are little more than a couple of pumps and an attendant sitting outside of a 10’x10’ structure. That’s it.
Most of the taxis I took were diesels. Gotta say, compared to taxis in the North America, European Taxis were as clean and as well kept as someone’s personal car. Quite nice.
Of course, manual trans cars are much more prevalent “over there”, too.
I saw Alphas all over Italy. First time I saw the Giulia up close. Quite nice. Also liked some of the Citroens and especially the Peugeots.
@fintail ...not sure about the journalist in Malta you were mentioning. Socially? Just a different way of viewing things. I didn’t get into their tax structure, nor their overall economic outlook. We did employ a guide, who had gone to university and had to be certified to become a guide. He was very knowledgeable and said his education to become a guide was no cost. His attitude said it all. Paraphrasing....but essentially he said”....I’m here to grant knowledge and to make sure your happy with what I do, as that reflects on how many more will employ me. You’re happy? I’m happy. But, if you’re not happy, it’s up to me to remain happy for the next tour.”
I liked that.
Interesting fact tidbit, it was felt that whomever controlled the Mediterranean during WWII, held the key to winning the European theater. As such, Malta, with it’s ideal ports in the Mediterranean was bombed more than any other place in Europe...including France, England, and Germany.
Lots of different influences there because of it’s strategic military location. At different times, it was ruled by the ARAB states, Italy, Spain,U.K. and others. The architecture reflects that, as does the food they grow and eat. The last country to rule there before they declared their independence in 1964.
They drive on the left, and speak English as their official language as a result.
@qbrozen - we are Giants fans in my house. My kids have been begging me to take them to a game for a long time. It is just a whole day hassle. For a 1:00 pm game, I have to leave my house at 10:00 - 10:30 am and wouldn't get home until 6:30 - 7:00 pm. And that's before the hefty price of admission, souvenirs, food, & drink.
That's what televisions are for! Best seat in the house! Best food, no hassle!
It was this case - not holding the problems against them, as several North American real estate markets are also "a haven for dubious foreign money", as the article aptly states. Glass houses, stones, all that.
Even with that and a slower economy than northern Europe, I suspect the quality of life meets or exceeds the experience on most of this continent. I've experienced the same observations and likes in central Europe.

I liked that. I fell in love with the place, as you can tell.
While not specifically mentioned in the article, I had the door latches replaced under recall on my 2015 Mustang last month. Which reminds me, I need to take it back in because the exterior door handle on the passenger side is notchy now, no longer smooth when it retracts.

Now with the “floating” cams above the scrimmages and the big screen HD TV’s, the only thing missing are fans standing up in the stands so you can’t see what’s happening!

I have been a member of Amazon Prime for years and as best I recall, have never been charged a return shipping charge. I recently ordered a $10. item. It was of very cheap quality and I decided to return it. While printing the return mailing label I noticed they were going to charge $6.00 for shipping the item back, so I just decided to keep the item. I read their rules and they stated that free return shipping now only applies to items that have "free return shipping" displayed by the price of the item. I will be very careful what I order from them in the future.
Yep, not all Prime is equal. Maybe if you complain to Amazon, they'd issue a credit. Lots of junk from third parties on there too now, proceed with caution (it is still a cool service with many benefits).
Ordinarily, Amazon Prime allows for free return shipping for something that’s damaged, didn’t arrive on time, or failed in any way during the return period. I’ve never had them allow free shipping on an item I just didn’t want after I had it delivered. MAybe they’ve changed?
I too, think Amazon PRime is a good deal, given their TV programming and their music streaming channels (which I use, even in the car) that does not have any commercials.

We love amazon prime. Buy stuff....don't have to go to 20 stores to see who has it, delivered to your door, reviews, answer questions, good programs. We are looking for a dog carrier for airplanes...pet store has 3 models, about $50, amazon has about 100 of equal value, from about $20 to $30.
Carnaught has the best way to get revenge....give them a really bad review.

No, no need to get excited over 5 bucks. Cheap lesson learned. We love Amazon Prime too, but this just sort of caught me by surprise so I thought I would give you guys a heads up. Imid got the idea I was trying to convey, just be informed before you order.
We've been a Prime member for years and I think their return policy used to be free return shipping, no questions asked. It has been years since we returned anything, so of course, I could be wrong.
Speaking of Amazon, our TV never arrived. I filed a claim this morn. It really sucks because odds are I can't find as good of a deal again.
I remember that, and yes, it was a heck of a good deal. I hope you can still get it.
We still have a 50 in. Element (brand name) plasma tv that we bought at Costco 11 years ago. Replaced it this year with a 55 inch 4k Samsung LED from Costco, although it still worked as good as new. Beautiful picture. It is now stored in the basement as I can't find anyone who will take it for free. I bet it weighs 100 pounds. I think we paid about $1400. for the off brand plasma and about $450. for the new Samsung 4k smart LED. I wish car pricing had gone along those lines.

I guess the guy didn't realize he was picking a fight with my car instead of me. I'm sure he could have dragged my [non-permissible content removed] all up and down that road if we were out of our vehicles but we weren't.
Oh well, he was young but he might have learned something that day.

Man, 51 people, that's a lot. I've sold 3 houses and I doubt I've had even half that many people come through all of those houses.
I hope you allowed for replacing your carpeting.
Good luck but I don't think you'll need it.

I fell in love with the place, as you can tell.
Even with that and a slower economy than northern Europe, I suspect the quality of life meets or exceeds the experience on most of this continent. I've experienced the same observations and likes in central Europe.
@oldfarmer50, did the recall affect yours too?

I too, think Amazon PRime is a good deal, given their TV programming and their music streaming channels (which I use, even in the car) that does not have any commercials.

The mods felt that some of my posts were worth repeating.
Don't anger them or they'll post ALL of my previous posts. How would you like to be held responsible for that?

We've been a Prime member for years and I think their return policy used to be free return shipping, no questions asked. It has been years since we returned anything, so of course, I could be wrong.
