How in the heck...... This driver was really flying. A California motorist was moving so fast when his car slammed into a center median Sunday that the impact launched the vehicle into the second story of a nearby building — where it stayed lodged for hours as rescuers extricated a person trapped inside.

Sure beats the ad running here for toyota showing a lexus model plowing through snow with its front "grill" pushing little ridges of snow occasionally and doing mild slides with the zoom zoom sound effects to show how exciting their toyotas are to drive. Almost convinced me to look at them . LOL

We had a normal winter storm blow into SW Ohio. The media, like they do everything, over hyped it for days. Some folks were actually scared this could be the blizzard of 2018. We got 2 inches. 20 miles SE of here on the other side
of Dayton got maybe 3. So tired of the over hyping by the weather folks.

Some icing under the snow freezing as the temps dropped had a lot of the speeding semis heading for Columbus which won't slow down for anything on I70 ending up jack knifing. At least that slowed them down. LOL

I hesitate to even complain with the wild fires in CA and the resultant mudslides. I would just like to see realistic forecasts without the tight excited voices pitching how awful it's going to be.

    Now back to cars.

Haven’t had to charge my wireless electric snow blower in over 90 minutes of use. Powerful, too. This is the future of my yard tools. No gas. No cords. No maintenance.

How many inches of snow can it handle?
How much snow can it handle? Not sure. So far, it’s handled about 3 inches. Got hit again last night. Off work today, so will tackle it here in a little bit as there’s about 5 inches on the ground. Will let you know.

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that the Camry was so substantial that it left no room for the Avalon. But I was wrong, to wit:

According to Cnet, the 2019 Toyota Avalon sedan "gains a full battery of tech features, including adaptive suspension, Apple CarPlay, Alexa and smartwatch connectivity. And the interior actually appears to be nearly on par with the $100k+ Lexus LC 500. The leather stitching looks incredible, and the center stack is gorgeous in the way it floats above the dash and cascades down into the center console."

Wow, I wonder how much Toyota paid for that review. The leather stiching looks incredible? How many times have you looked at a car and even noticed that it had stitching?

My son's 3er needed a new tire the day before our SC weekend so he decided to rent a car to drive down to Greenville rather than get a late start on Friday. Enterprise gave him a new Impala. We were both pretty impressed overall. Nice interior and solid build quality. Neither of us are interested in big FWD sedans, but for someone who does like them the Impala would be worth checking out.

We had one as a rental a couple of years ago. Like you, I wouldn’t want to own a car that large, but it was a very nice rental. Handled surprising well and even pretty good on gas mileage.

Man, I like the new RDX. Makes ours seem like an antique. Might get expensive if I let the wife see in person. That’s how I ended up with the current one. We’re out looking at options in our price range, and I made the fatal mistake of stopping at Acura just to see one in person, out of curiosity. And there was no going back.

Got a call from my doctor with the results of the blood tests and CT-Scan I had done last week. The news is good and not so good!

There was no evidence of tumors in my abdomen, liver, spleen, etc. That's the good news. But the not so good news includes the fact that I have a fairly large hematoma on the right side of my abdomen as well as a hernia to the right of my navel - all probably caused by the surgery I had back in September of 2016. He told me he was going to forward the results of the tests to my gastroenterologist and my oncologist/hematologist for their input. I have an appointment to see my oncologist/hematologist next week. I'm anxious to hear what he has to say. I have to contact my gastroenterologist to find out what he wants to do about the hernia. It causes me intermittent acute pain, especially when getting up out of bed or standing from a sitting position.

It's one thing after another - my life that is! Still waiting on the blood test results for the Hep C viral count. Hopefully it will be undetectable like last time which would be great news.

I had heard a new Avalon was in the works. I think that Toyota may have sold 2 of the current version here locally, assuming the one I looked at last fall on the dealer's lot finally sold. It was a blackout version and even had black wheels which struck me odd for an Avalon. You don't see them around here at all, usually only with distant plates when tourists drive them here.

The new one, while being unspeakably ugly in front, actually has a really fine-looking dash IMO. That is Volvo-quality design inside. So its got that going for it at least. Maybe they will sell one of two here over the next couple of years.

Here's how not to sell a truck:

**NO TITLE** Cant find it, Can get one through Lein Company for approximately
$200 and some paperwork, I don't have the time to do!

I figure this seller has a nice little lawn ornament but little else. Who would put up money for a deal like that? Or am I missing something?

@abacomike, a (chronic) hematoma, since surgery, doesn’t make much sense. The incisional hernia after liver surgery, yes. Anyway, glad to hear it about the negative CT otherwise, and the no detectable virus. This is something you can live with, in the scheme of things. Congrats for the good news part of your news!

    RE; Lexus front ends.

    2 thoughts come to mind regarding the Lexus and Camry front ends;

    1) How many more cars would they have sold if they fixed up that controversial front end?

    2) Is there anyone who actually says "I love the front on that car - I gotta have one".

    2 thoughts come to mind regarding the Lexus and Camry front ends;

    1) How many more cars would they have sold if they fixed up that controversial front end?

    2) Is there anyone who actually says "I love the front on that car - I gotta have one".

Probably not, but most new makes are copying the Lexus garish grill design. Even the new Accord has waded into the pool with its big mouth imitation.

Speaking of Trump and his disparaging comment on African nations. Perhaps Ghana is not known for its affluence and car culture but I was awestruck by the number of high end luxury automobiles at the parking lot at the Accra Polo Club. To the best of my knowledge, Ghana is not an oil producing state but that opulent lifestyle rivals even the oil barons on Banana Island in neighboring Nigeria.

I wonder what's under the hood of these things that they need such a huge amount of space devoted to air intake.

Oh yeah, it's fake, the false pretense of aggressive sport.

That Altima sticking out of the building does look somewhat like an errant tooth.

Just got Hep C blood test results - “NO VIRUS DETECTED!”  So that’s two consecutive test results showing no virus.  St the 6-month and one year mark, if no virus detected I am considered cured.
That's great news Mike, just what we wanted to hear.

Now tell us what car you are going to celebrate this good news with. We can't wait for this answer. B)

The S450 is the celebratory car - enjoying every minute of it.

Nice try but c'mon man, you're talking to us...remember? :@

With the lease he signed up for, even mike might be too buried to get out of this one. A 3 year relationship finally! Well, minus however many months MB offers a pull ahead program for.
