Costco gas......the store is probably 15-20 minutes from me (depending on traffic) and I’m in the general vicinity of that store a couple of times/week. Given that my car spends a lot of time parked at the airport for days at a time, there are times I won’t fill up for 2-3 weeks.

But, I find the busiest times to be early afternoons on Saturday or Sunday. So, I stay away from those times to fill up. NEVER had to wait 20 minutes to get fuel, though.

Like most have found, 99.9% of the time Costco is cheaper than any other station, let alone stations which are top tier. My Costco credit card is also my membership card. So, not sure about why a seperate credit card was needed when it was Costco branded plus an additional membership card.

Bathroom update.....really it seems some of the contractes really are shady. My bids for a total tear out and rebuild range from about $14K to $30K, with no appreciable difference in materials or labor needed. Had one “sales” guy (the one that quoted $30K) who supposedly was a former plumber (find that hard to believe based on his lack of knowledge) ask if I was willing to sign a contract on the spot? I told him I wasn’t until I received more bids. He then started pulling the old car sales routine....”if I offered to do the bathroom and knock off $2K, would you sign the contract?”.

Anyway, you get the picture. State Farm, who up until this juncture had been a pretty good insurance provider, has been either reluctant to engage, or totally non-existent in the amount of help they’ve provided. Had one adjuster call me telling me what State Farm WON’T cover. Had another one call saying he was my adjuster but was coming from Wichita (to cover Cincinnati?) and didn’t know when he could make it to look at the damage.

Not a good experience, so far.

I'm telling you, Insurance is an industry where everyone that works in it is a "lost cause." However, there might be a 2-5% exception at 2 to 4 companies.

Still, I have a feeling I'd receive more professionalism from doing business with a Mexican Drug Cartel than most Insurance companies.

I pay my $2300 in property taxes....I should be allowed to call it "our", especially since I help pay for it!
Ha $2300... I’m over 6 and I don’t even want to think what they do to me once I get tagged for the addition.

@stickguy in his hood probably pays near 10.
I thought NJ had the highest taxes around but $6000 is relatively cheap. One city near me would charge that on a $50k hovel in a seedy section. A mile from me the city charges $15k on a nice 4 bed 2500sq ft home. My place hasn't hit $6k yet because we're in the sticks.

Jersey is the highest per thousand in the country still I believe.  My home is about 1800 sf with basement on a tiny lot.   Property values aren’t super high here and I’d be lucky to get 190k for it.

    Interesting. Like they said...variables.
Variables..... like quality control and specified tolerances so that cars are consistently fast? Okay, maybe that was too harsh.

Still, you may want to think twice when engaging a Kia Stinger GT at a stop-light :open_mouth::smile:

For those who can’t get Motorweek on their television, go to Motorweek.org. I think you can watch episodes, test drives, etc.

The site I checked had maybe 15 in stock. The ADM vanishing says a lot, it being replaced by a discount says even more. As we head towards summer, I think there will be some deals. Only 2 in the listing were GT2s, one was a nice blue.

The small engine thing is typical for cars built to lease. I think 95% of Cs in stock are C300.

    andres3 said:

I was downright shocked how many Stingers they had, most with the V6. Gave me the impression they missed the mark on the MSRP. The lease deals are probably coming soon! Slapping a 65% residual on them should help move some metal. They had blue, yellow, black, white, gray, and silver. The red one's have either been avoided or sold.

Reminds me when I went shopping for a 335i years back, and they had dozens of the lesser engine 3 Series, and 1 335i, in their special storage lot miles away.

I think I saw some ADM stickers relegated to the round file in the round cup holder, rather than on the window. Strange place to "hide" the ADM. Not sure if it was a mistake, done by a customer, or just a lazy employee.
Kia dealer nearest me has 7 Stingers. I think I mentioned that the one I looked at during the Cincinnati Auto Expo wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be. For $50K+ it's going to need a step up (probably 2 steps up) in materials as the interior felt cheap. Now, driving one may change my perception, but as of now, I'll take a pass.

Local dealer is showing $750 off MSRP before you even walk into the showroom. Those trying to foist ADMs need to go into rehab!
Sounds like you agree with me, they have a $30K interior (don't think I'd call that cheap though). It's just a bit less than expected for $50K in my opinion.

At $40K given it drove well, it would be more in consideration. The main thing I didn't like is the rear view window is too small vertically.

That's the media bias you get when your review is paid by Kia (and other automaker) advertisements. Overly optimistic praise.

Now ya made me check. My closest dealer has 30 of them, and the only RWD are a few base models.

The Stinger ads are pretty bizarre---lots of macho spins and spills, sharp exhaust notes, air of fog and mystery---you know, your average Kia owner. :p

Jalopnik liked the Stinger and praises it--I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I haven't driven one yet so can't say if it's sizzle or steak.

In any event it'll be competing price wise with some interesting iron from Europe.
Was thinking about the availability of the Kia Stinger last night and came up with other cars I would much rather have than the high zoot Stinger for around the same price....

    1. Audi S3
    2. Mercedes CLA AMG
    3. Mustang GT convertible (for a lot less money)
    4. Camaro SS (for a lot less money)
    5. BMW M240i

I think the Stinger is going to have to get some big price cuts for people like us to write a check.
Based on speed and handling alone, perhaps, but none of those cars offer anywhere near the utility. Your comparison is like "I would rather buy a fast small coupe than a midsize hatchback", or I like 3-series over Honda Pilot (well, perhaps not that egregious, but you know what I mean). Plus your Mercedes, Audi and BMW comparisons are not "totally honest", as it would take another 10 grand to bring the cabin equipment to par with the Stinger (especially Benz).
You can get a very well equipped S3 for $50K, but you are right, it is smaller.

I've assisted with two Kia transactions up here (both Soul EVs), and the cars are great. The dealer experience though was absolutely awful. Classic Kia dealer tactics.

I know @tifighter had a generally good experience with a different dealer group, so there is some hope there - but generally I'm not sure I'd even waste my time.

In defense of Kia Dealerships, both North County Kia and Fuller Kia (now owned by Penske Kia) were just fine in my shopping and buying experience. The service center at North County might oversell, but nothing too outlandish I think. Still, I didn't expect to have to lay down $300+ for a 15/18K service on a Kia.

I see the reason for the high proportion of GTs. The idea is for the buyer to think: "Hey, this car is X dollars cheaper than a similar Audi"

Whether the buyer will actually think that, is another matter.

Yeah, more like a VW Passat Sportback with a 3.3 Turbocharged engine rather than the 3.6 V6 upgrade currently offered. Problem is, the 3.6 Passat is much cheaper than the Stinger (granted slower too).

I would like to think that people in those companies make decisions much more deliberately than their own wishful thinking, but perhaps not. The only surprise here is that Kia has been generally quite successful, which means their marketing guys know their audience well. Stinger, which a great looking car and has some real promise, IMHO, is outside of their normal audience, especially GT trim, and I'm sure they know it. That's why these large production numbers of GT trim and proportion vs. 2.0 trim, is so puzzling to me.
Well, isn't the K900 out of place too? Has that been a success?

$6k? I would kill for that. I think we are pushing 12K now. Bigger house, and higher rated school system, but far from any kind of palace.

There is a reason I am looking at houses in Delaware, now that I am long done with public schools.

I am finding a lot of people get a place in Florida with the intention of keeping their northern home. Then they find taxes are less, even our $2300 would be about $1400 if we were homesteaders. And, no state taxes. Eventually they say, why even keep a house up north, we can live for a lot less if we have one home in Florida....and just visit relatives up north in July, August and September.

So I mentioned to the wife that I was planning to go ahead and upgrade the tires on my truck. We cut one of the OEM Goodyears last summer on a mild forest service road. She mentions that she doesn’t care for the stock chrome wheels either. With that in mind I upgraded to Black Rhino wheels and Toyo Open Country AT 2 tires. Truck looks much better, and hopefully we get a worry free summer on the back roads of Washington state. Below is the before and after.

Whew, when it gets late like this I have to be careful about my speed reading. When I read, "I taught 4th and 6th grades for 5 years", I read it as you spent 5 years in 4th through 6th grades. For a split second there I thought we had something in common but then I sadly realized we don't, at least not about those grade school days. :'(

I'm not a fan of black wheels but those actually look good. Is it the light angle or do they have some bright accents?
    They definitely do.

    @driver100,
I guess Tampa decided to copy Chicago. One of my kids goes to Chicago every year for St Patrick's Day.

Yep - they dye the Chicago River in the Downtown area “GREEN” on St. Pats Day.  I used to live in Chicago.
Well "ours" is a prettier green :p

“Prettier”, driver?  I’m seriously starting to wonder about you, driver - “prettier” or “cuter”?  6 of one or a half dozen of the other.  :D
I didn't want to call theirs putrid green.......come on....what would you have said?

I would have said one of the following:

Ours is Kelly Green - a true Irish color - yours is Olive Green, quite drab!
Ours is Shamrock Green - yours is Slime Green!
Ours is 4-Leaf Clover Green - yours is “Green Around The Gills Green - not very Irish!

    How’s that driver?

Hey, I was just a lowly elementary school teacher....you got the doctorate and were a school administrator, we expect more from you.
I think they got the point from mine just as well, even if not as literate or descriptive.

I, too, was a lowly elementary school teacher, driver.  Some of my favorite memories are from that time in my life,  I taught 4th and 6th grades for 5 years.  Exhilarating experiences.  I am sure you, too, have some memorable experiences from that time in your life.

I’ll bet you were a great teacher - because you taught the kids how to problem solve - I admire your dedication - sincerely!

I think I was a good teacher because I wanted to make learning fun and interesting to the students. I did well in school but I always thought it could be made more interesting. I do try to look at problems from various angles....problem solving really helped in business........there are always big problems, and the one who can solve the problems will be successful. My motto is....for every problem....there has got to be a solution.

Those stock wheels are definitely hideous

What a trasformation Murph......makes it look like a completely different truck. Like oldfarmer said, black wheels don't always look good....but, in this case they were definitely the right choice. Besides, makes you look like a Bad Boy.

Nice bricks....but in Tampa we paint the Hillsborough River green!
WE? So you come to our country and pollute one of our rivers. No wonder you're going to be deported soon. :@ jmonroe
Don't you live in FL? Or am I getting mixed up? Once upon a time when I was considering a job in Tampa (maybe 3 yrs ago, if that), the taxes I found were dirt cheap in comparison. And those were all relatively new 3k sq ft homes with pools and very good school system. IIRC, somewhere around $3500 on a $350k home.
Only in my dreams. I'm stuck in upstate NY crying about everything from taxes to road salt. I had planned to retire there but my wife is reluctant. You may have been confused by my posting of car ads from the Tampa area where a relative has a condo. Speaking of which, if Jipster is still looking for midsized Ford products for his kid, this one might do the trick. A little more money but half the milage of that Milan. https://tampa.craigslist.org/hdo/ctd/d/2012-lincoln-mkz-fwd/6534196216.html
Too cheap, and for good reason. Autocheck shows 3 owners and an accident.

apologies on the residency mixup, OF. I think I have mentioned it before, but my property taxes are over $17k, and that is after an appeal hearing. They were 18.

I like those Lincolns.....comfortable, high seating, good vision.....nice interior. I think it is more expensive than the Jip wanted to go, but at 38k miles and it being a 2012 it seems pretty good.

I guess it would have fairly new tires on it at 38k miles....but, the way they blackened them it looks really phony. When I see that it makes me more suspicious. There is a picture of an arm rest that is all spotted too....not sure what that is all about.

It would seem to be a pretty good find, if not for the accident and 3 owners (I read that after I posted)
There is something off about it....I think the overly tarted up tires were a clue..

You can get a beautiful home in the Tampa area for $350k....and taxes would probably be about $3500 if you are a homesteader. Remember too....no state taxes too! Electricity is ultra cheap......we pay about $70 a month to heat and cool a 1400 sq ft home. You don't need winter clothes or snow tires, or even AWD. You may need a vacation in July and August. Our neighbors go to Costa Rica those months....rent a place in the mountains for $1800 a month.

Your tax dollars also went into whatever green stuff they poured into the river for a one day event. Think about THAT the next time you hit an unrepaired pothole!
We don't get many potholes in Florida. It can happen, but very rare. No rain and ice to make them. The roads and highways are usually ultra nice here, smooth with clear bright lines and reflectors on major highways. Now, if the people could drive like they weren't NASCAR drivers the roads would be perfect.

17k is killer!  Before we decided to move my Mother in we were thinking of moving up to a different neighborhood and bigger house.   Everything I looked at had 5 figure taxes and we just didn’t want to get hit with that.   It would hinder our plans to get a small condo down the shore once the kids are out of private child care. (Aka my second mortgage)

I agree, driver - we have fairly good roads and highways.  I would disagree with just one comment you made in your above post - you stated that “...no rain and ice to make them (potholes).”  We have no ice, but as far as rain goes, I think we get tons of rain in July, August, September and October - and I mean deluges!

I'm not a fan of black wheels but sometimes on a pickup they can work. My real pet peeve are ones that have bright fastener heads showing on a black wheel lip.

    Understood, what I should have made clearer was that potholes are caused mostly from rain water, or melting snow water....seeping through cracks in the pavement, and that water freezing and breaking up the cement. That is what I meant by rain making potholes. I understand our roads back home......where I do pay $7000 a year in property tax, are a real mess;

City will do emergency pothole repair to Main Street West - which is 'almost gravel'

Pothole repairs?  They need to resurface that road - cost can’t be that much more when you consider the many hours needed just to repair the street.

It seems a shave and pave can't be done until the Spring....so, I think they will just fill it up for now., but emergency repairs will cost about $400000 which of course wasn't in the budget - but, they will have to do it soon. .They have also had more money being paid out for car repairs than ever before too.

I suspect pothole repair is seen as a make-work project, and is preferred over replacing things correctly. With the lowest bidder mentality which leads to so much American infrastructure being not exactly first world quality, no doubt you can see the new holes develop as the old ones are being filled. In my area, it is also a gigantic PITA to deal with the self-titled authorities to pay out for damage caused by their negligent road maintenance - I know this firsthand. I seriously doubt I will ever choose another car with larger wheels and/or low profile tires. Even my E, not exactly a sports car, doesn't like these roads.

A fun one I discovered yesterday is a "bump" on a highway interchange ramp, a bump more like running into a wall. Ah such fine engineering, just like being in Germany.

No, in Coral Springs we have what once was called Coral Springs cable. Some neighbors have a dish on the side of their houses and we could get AT&T U-Verse but content with the local cable company. Get enough channels to keep us happy and we usually just get the expanded basic.
