My SuriusXM trial is ending on my BMW. I just got the renewal offer letter. I have zero interest in renewing, but I’m always interested how companies market themselves, so I read the thing. Oh boy, you think phone companies or car dealers are bad... SiriusXM takes entrapment and misleading art to the next level. So big letters say $29.94 for 6 months, or $99 for a year. Then it comes unspecified „taxes and fees” equal over 1/3 (!) of the price on top. I’m sure good portion of the „fees” are still going to the company, so the term „price” is clearly used here very loosely. Then automatic billing renewal at unspecified „regular” rate and you HAVE TO call to cancel, in era of internet, computers, you have to call. I only imagine the pressure from „cancellation” crew with their goals of conversions.
Even if I saw any value (and I don’t), this policy alone is a powerful deterrent to me. This business is clearly not focused on running honest offers for honest service, but rather it is more about trapping you into something you may, or may not want and making it extremely painful to cancel. Gotcha sucka, now you pay me... They clearly have very little confidence in the merrits of the actual service, if they think they have to resort to such tactics and make you run a gauntlet any time you want out. Compare it with say Netflix, or any other honest service. Go to the website, click cancel, we’re sorry to let you go, please come back any time you want.
It's bittersweet because for us this is the child who, in all likelihood, is going to be the one that gives us many "lasts" (last preschool graduation, last first/last day of kindergarten, etc.) so we're cherishing these moments as much as we can. Time has certainly flown by.
My son was the last one to be able to carry on the family name. We were afraid he was never going to get married and then we were afraid he was never going to have kids. Finally the (grand)son we were waiting for arrived. Notice the Pirate shirt and they live near Baltimore.

Wait, the difference between 3,971 miles and 3,965.8 miles is less than 7 feet? No wonder I get lost all the time.
Actually it's a difference of about two miles, 3,965 vs 3967 miles. I just looked it up.
lol Like I said...my math ain't the best. Although in this case it was probably my speed reading that wasn't so good. Besides, everything is relative....7 feet if it was 3971 feet......7 miles if it is 3971 miles.
I did the Sirius/XM for another year but it was $89 plus fees, we both did it within a couple of days and got the same price. Is it worth it? Maybe but today, found out I can listen through my tablet and through my smartphone, a pleasant surprise really. Now, am glad I renewed and come January 21st, will decide again if it's worth it to me. Luckily, I have plenty of tunes in my iTunes account so can live with that if necessary. Nice to have choices in life. But divided over the 365 day year, not much to spend really. And since I'm in my Golf about an hour a day, has value to me. Once i cut back on my driving, then we'll see.

I have no doubt some people find it valuable, especially at those discounted prices, my beef is the whole gotcha mindset of the business. I’m almost positive if they ran it at lower „regular” price, discounted it less, only for true introductory periods and ran straightfirward sales and customer service, they would be more successful. Best companies long term reduce the friction and pain points, not make their mission to exploit them.
I got off easy with Sirius. Bought the car in April 2017, with free Sirius for one year. We were in Florida, got back April 4th 2018, they gave me 2 weeks for free, then forgot about me, and cut off my Sirius. I use a stick....I have 12 hours of songs I really like. Since I am here for 7 months, and in Florida for 5 months, I don't want to pay $120 a year for a service I use for 7 months.
They need a monthly plan, and like Dino said, you should be able to start and stop when you want to, and there should be one reasonable price to pay....I feel I have been freed from Sirius.

They do have month-to-month service. It’s over 20 bucks, after all taxes. Way too high, that’s why they need gimmicks to keep the ball rolling and trap people. They should take page from Netflix. Set one low price, do short free trials and keep increasing the value. Probably not so easy with radio. They chose worst parts of cable and phone company instead.
I shutter admitting to my fellow posters (and the world) that I have been watching “AMERICAN IDOL”! There is one finalist that is truly amazing at just 19 years old. His name is Caleb Hutchinson. I am not a lover of Country and Western music, but after watching him perform and listening to a voice that is so natural and deep - kind of similar to Johnny Cash’s voice - that I have become a solid Country and Western fan.
The show is on ABC and he just made it into the top “2”. If you aren’t watching, tune into ABC and listen to an unbelievable voice. I’ll buy every album he makes - win or lose - what a voice.

While my Golf was sitting at the collision center for the month, I had them suspend my XM for two of those weeks and they eventually sent me a check for the time. Wanted them to just add the couple of weeks on the back end but it got too complicated for them so I opted to receive the check. They do make things too difficult but that's their model, dumb as it may be. A shame that they can't simplify the whole process to make it easier for us all but alas, they won't. So, come mid January, I'll cancel and then jump thru their hoops if I decide to get it for the 2019 year. Depending on how hard they make it will decide either yay or nay at this point. Make things easy, and I'll be there. Make them difficult, and not so sure. I prefer simple in every aspect of my life so offer me a good product at a reasonable price where I find value, and I'm all yours. Muck it up with nonsense, and I just might tell ya enough already and move on. Sirius/XM, it's all up to you going forward!!

Well, win or lose this campaign has been fun. My opponent decided to really go negative a couple of weeks ago, but the problem is she made comments that were demonstrably false- and I've called her on it every time.. Today was a good example; my rival has been catching heat the whole campaign for firing a well liked lady who was nine months away from retirement- by email. This morning she posts a video on Facebook where she states that I also fired a secretary back in 1993. We let her and her cronies make hay about the video, and then at 8:16 tonight I posted a signed letter from that secretary that stated that I did not fire her and further, that she was supporting me. Hilarity ensued, with the result that my post has reached nearly 2,300 people after 2 hours.

Pre school. Long time ago! We just attended college graduation for our baby this weekend. Now on to apartment search, and of course, car looking.
I’d bet there is a low mileage Elantra sport with Dad financing in her future
could be. seems to be a popular topic around here She is fine with it. wife just wonders why I have trouble deciding! Of course, not discussed yet is what the financial terms would be. Would want it to go into her name (eventually at least), and since I am financing it, that would require figuring out how to pay it off. Then, would she take out a loan, or would we "hold the note" on it? To start, might just let her drive it (we can share), at least until she moves out.
Oh, that is the other open item. Where she is going to live. Work is about 45 miles from here. If she decided to live here, will be a ton of miles on something. Her last plan was moving to a place in the middle, about 30 miles each way. Still going to roll them up.
current plan now is to get an apartment near work (3-6 miles max). That opens up quite a few other options, wheels wise. So, once that is nailed dow, we can move on to plan car!
@oldfarmer50, Your friend is interested in that 2017 Mustang. Tell him to go to blueovalforums and sign up. Go to the Mustang discussion and ask about incentives for a 2017. He'll most likely get a response from the guy who's car it is to sell.
Thanks, I'll past that info on to him.

$20 a month for 7 months is equal to $140 - that is more than I was paying for a discounted yearly plan! Ridiculous....I like Sirius and it is worth $5 or $6 a month to me, and should be able to put on hold or be able to transfer to other car is travelling or are a Snowbird etc.

I once told my granddaughter what it was like when I was her age. How phones were as big as shoeboxes and were attached to a wall with no voicemail or call waiting. How TV was black and white with 6 stations and 21 inch Tv's where big and no remotes. And the like. She didn't believe me.
My, how things changed in our lifetimes.

I've posted here before about how I feel about the utterly sleazy and deceptive business practices of SXM so I don't need to go into all that again except to say that they are about the most disreputable company I can think of for all the reasons you mention. Interesting in my case that after jumping through hoops just to get them to give me my 3 free months after buying the ATS they ended it on the exact day and never tried contacting me around that time to bite on one of their ridiculously crooked offers, but now suddenly they are mailing and calling me with great frequency trying to get me to re-up. I find it amazing that nobody in management there ever seems to stop and think "What if we ended all this foolishness about trying to con people and just played straight with customers?".
Back in the late 60's an older aunt of mine had a tv with a remote. It was just like a regular tv of the day, maybe 21 in., but when you pushed the remote button there was whirring sound and you could see the tuning knob actually turrn to the next station. Seemed weird back then and only worked about half the time. The same aunt had an electric stationary bike for exercise. Turn on the power and it did all the work for you.

There is a place nearby called Cantigny which is the estate of Col. Robert McCormick. His mansion is open for tours and in one of the bedrooms sits the first TV model with a remote control. It was actually attached to the TV by a 6 foot cable.
Now back in the 60s my parents had a remote control, it was me.

4 Stoughton MA high school seventeen-year old teenage boys lost their lives in a car accident over the weekend. The driver, another 17-year old is hanging for dear life at the hospital. Apparently the car was speeding on a rainy and wet soaked road and crashed into a large tree. Condolences to their families.

Back in the '60s TV tuners were mechanical so those needed a motor to operate via remote control. But my 6th grade teacher had an aftermarket box added to her TV that must have been an early cable converter box. It sat on top of the set and she controlled the channel changes with a wired remote. I'd guess it used relays of some sort. Wired remotes were not unusual even into the '80s. My Sony Betamax I bought in '81 (cost $1500!!) had a wired remote with about a 20-foot cable.
I think those were ultrasonic technology. My uncle is an electronics hobbyist, and has mentioned my great-grandparents had a Zenith with a similar feature around 1960.
I remember an episode of Dennis the Menace where he obtains a remote, and is able to play with Mr. Wilson's TV (from a likely improbable distance).

It really feels like all those old telecom and cable execs went to Sirius to run their business and brought all their great manuals from 80s and 90s. I just can't stand this kind of "business". Like this need to call to cancel, like it's 1995 and internet didn't really exist in middle America. "Music royalty and regulatory fee", which is most likely an equivalent of dealer's prep and doc fee. Some small portion covers a real cost, rest is just profit, but if we don't call it price, just fee then perhaps couple of suckers will believe they got it for less. To me when "fees and taxes" charged on top of the "price" constitute over 1/3 then the said "price", it can no longer be called "THE price". There is something to be said about other countries laws, when merchants must post prices that include all taxation. There is a downside of that too, such as opportunity for the government to hide taxation from people, but I'm growing really tired of all those offers of headline price number that turn much, much higher after everything is added. I bet the actual taxes and other government charges for SXM service are in proximity of 10%, just like with any other service of this kind. The rest is invented by them just to make it look cheaper on the headline number. Telecoms used to do that (all those "universal" and other officially sounding fees, but years of litigation put a decent lid on that. I guess Sirius has to be slapped with couple of lawsuits and regulatory actions before they stop.

I just completed my 6 month trial and bargained them from $350 a year to $119+fees and taxes ($154). That’s for their full package - internet included - but the following year it doubles so I will cancel and negotiate again. I hate Sirius/XM’s modus operandi - their business ethics and strong arm tactics stink!
I listen to the Sirius App on my phone at night with earphones just as I go to bed. Their APP is quite good - better than Apple Radio.
But to me it’s worth $10.50 a month for all their services and options - but not a penny more.

Not even close. I have lots of hair although not all of it is still exactly the same color as the original (brown) nor do I have that much around the middle. However, you do get partial credit because I remember gas when it was that price and you were really waited on when you pulled in to get gas.
I understand that in Jersey they still pump your gas. They must have a strong union there or a bunch of dopes that would blow themselves up if they were allowed to pump it themselves but I doubt that you get the other stuff.

For Sirius/XM, insist on their $60+ fees for one year, or you’ll cancel. I just did it for my two cars. Think it’s worth it, and easy peasy.
I would, if I saw any value. My current appraisal of SXM value to me is somewhere between zero and 10 cents per month. I have listened to it three times over last 10 months. However, if I did actually listen to it, it would probably be somewhere between 5 and 7 bucks per month, all in, no more. Say $80 per year, $100 at most. Definitely not $250 all-in. I value Netflix much higher and I'm constantly thinking about canceling the subscription, but ending keeping it. Oh, well.

$154 is not $10.50/month, but $12.83. So it's more than "penny more".

I did a little better than that about 3 months ago when the bill came for Mrs. j's 2012 Subie.
I called the cancel number like I had always done since I first had XM with my '09 Genny. In the past all I had to say was "cancel" and they immediately gave me the "promotional price". Around 100 bucks without the fees but this time I dug in and said, "I've had XM since '09 and I feel I should get a better price than the $99 thing". The said, "I agree with you, let me see what I can do". In a couple minutes he came back with one year for $55 all in plus 2 bucks for a mailed invoice. He was quick to say I could save the 2 bucks if I gave him my CC number. That was never going to happen and when the bill arrived it was for $55 plus the $2 invoice charge.
I happen to like XM and I'm willing to play their game once a year but they will NEVER get my card number.

I don't care, what's based on. Royalties are cost of business, so they should be part of the "price", not some made-up extra charge, to make the "price" look lower. Why not make it "get it free", only $25/month "satelite, transmission, royalty, personnel and all other stuff fee". Just like with those dealer's "doc and prep" fees, reaching (and exceeding) here $1000 at fast pace ($600 is not "low"). I've seen one Honda dealer here having something like 3 separate "dealer fee" positions, say $899 first, $99 second and some couple of bucks third. It's just plain obnoxious.
Seems like $1000 has been long breached. $995+$184 = $1,179. I'm sure there is some kind of "disposal", "tire" or whatever else charge to bring it to even $1200. It's incredible. They say there is no inflation - here we have $100-200 every time I take a look, i.e. couple of years.
And we shouldn't forget about all those mop'n glo packages.
I have not missed SXM one bit. Our amazon music works perfectly, has zero commercials, and allows full control over what plays if you so wish. All for a fraction of the SXM cost.

I understand that in Jersey they still pump your gas. They must have a strong union there or a bunch of dopes that would blow themselves up if they were allowed to pump it themselves but I doubt that you get the other stuff.

They do, and also in Oregon, but do not make the mistake of thinking that such a requirement equates to "service!"
About ten years ago, I stopped at a station at about 0400 in the sleepy town where my family was staying. We were heading out on a quick 200-mile jaunt to Portland to catch a flight. Despite my feelings the pointlessness of this pumping requirement, I waited there ten minutes to give the clerk(s) the opportunity to come out and do their jobs. They didn't bother, so I just got out of the car and took care of it myself.
As we were preparing to leave, the clerk comes out and taps on the window. I rolled it down, and he asks, "fill it up with regular?" I said, "Maybe if you would have showed up fifteen minutes ago! I already took care of it. Thanks anyway." He stammers, "but..... that's illegal!" I just shook my head and told him to try to stay awake for the next customer as I drove off.
When stations are busy, Oregon stations tend to have two or three attendants that just walk from car to car in a "set it and forget it" mode. I cannot even remember the number of times I have hung up the nozzle myself after waiting several minutes beyond when the tank was full. And, the older I get, the less patience I have for it. I'm just glad that I'm only in Oregon once in a while....!

Gee, I don't know why you don't like the stations in Oregon. Not once did I read where you said you paid them. I'd do almost anything to get free gas, legal or otherwise.
It sounds like Oregon gives new meaning to "gas-n'-go".

For a second there I didn't recognize his playmate without his striped shirt on but once you factor that in and the need for a shave, there is no mistaking it...definitely @driver100.

I use a stick....I have 12 hours of songs I really like. Since I am here for 7 months, and in Florida for 5 months, I don't want to pay $120 a year for a service I use for 7 months.
They need a monthly plan, and like Dino said, you should be able to start and stop when you want to, and there should be one reasonable price to pay....I feel I have been freed from Sirius.

could be. seems to be a popular topic around here She is fine with it. wife just wonders why I have trouble deciding!

I listen to the Sirius App on my phone at night with earphones just as I go to bed. Their APP is quite good - better than Apple Radio.
But to me it’s worth $10.50 a month for all their services and options - but not a penny more.

$154 is not $10.50/month, but $12.83. So it's more than "penny more".
