Great review as always GG. You should consider a new career. Your review is concise and clear...you notice the things I want to know about. At $52k, I am not so sure....at $40k or even $42k it is worth consideration. The red interior sure looks nice. The vent on the side is a little overdone...less chrome may have looked better. I could live with the dash but I have seen nicer. I think Kia could have had a really hot seller, if they could have got the MSRP under $40k with a little less content.
It starts well under $40k, in fact.
Probably a 4 cylinder though...good, but not quite the same. I haven't tried one, but I like the looks, I like the engine, I like what GG said about it, I trust the brand....but, I can get a 2018 Mercedes C Class with 2500 miles for about $36000. I would go with what I am sure I would like, and what I know will hold its value and it will probably always be in style and look good - and less chance of getting tired of it.
RE; The Stinger If I was a young guy earning a pretty good salary, and if I was single, and if German engineering and refinement weren't that important to me, and if a fast car was a priority, and if I wanted a car that was a little bit different from the usual, then the Stinger would be worth considering.
Driver, my son (other than being an Audi snob now, and really interested in BMWs) fits that criteria, and is actually considering looking at the Stinger to replace his A3 at some point. I really doubt it would happen. For one thing, I don't think he would get something that big. But I know he would like the motor!

Them’s a lot of “ifs”...
I’d love to her someone else’s test drive take on the GT Stinger just to see if I’M TOTALLY off base in liking the Stinger more than some costlier iron.

Stick, it is easier for young people to switch brands, especially car brands. I am at an age where I don't want to make a mistake. My MBs, BMWs, all brought me a lot of joy and my rule is "I don't switch unless I become dissatisfied with what I have". I don't believe in horoscope crap but Aries are supposed to be loyal.
Young people don't have the same loyalties. They have been raised to find Asian cars are highly acceptable and in most cases preferred, they have little loyalty to the D3, and they do find European cars have a certain panache.
One last example, my father bought a new Ford or Mercury every 2 or 3 years from about 1954 to 1984. He loved his Fords but not the last one....an 82 Granada. He thought Ford lost it and he switched to an 84 Olds Omega FWD. He hated that even more....said it was unsafe, when he put on the brakes the car wanted to spin around out of control. Next he got a Camry and he liked that more than anything....he got one more until he stopped driving. Moral of the story..............be careful when you are switching brands, could go from the frying pan into the fire.

Yes, MB is a 4 cylinder. Hard to find a used Stinger I don't know because I haven't driven a Stinger, but, if I went to the dealer, found a Stinger and it was about $40k, it would have to impress me a lot, to choose it over a 2018 C Class with 2500 miles. I know the C Class will hold its value nicely, I know it is a top rated car, I know it will be made to a certain level. The Stinger could be a bargain, or it could be a flash in the pan......I am not at a stage in life where I want to play around to find out.
That's just me, but like I say, a younger guy has time to change again, and probably has fewer loyalties.
A friend traded in his 2004 Acura which he has had great use out of. He always buys used, has had GMs, Chryslers, Fords, says he won't buy another D3. 2004 Acura
He got a 2016 Volvo (wagon) T5 v60. . Color is black in and out which is not what he wanted but can live with it.. He gets 3 more years warranty up to 75k miles . The mileage is low at 7500 miles (it was an executive lease), Strange thing is, he says it was priced lower at this dealer that is in an upscale town (highest incomes in the country), than what it would have been in our average income city. Anyone care to speculate on that?

@driver100 ....thanks for putting me in the “Young people” category.
I get what you’re saying, though. Probably the closest I’ve come to being loyal to a brand is with Honda/Acura. That doesn’t preclude me from wandering into other brand waters, though. I always seem to come back to them.
The only think that scares me about KIA is their reliability. I know they’ve been top rated the last few rankings with their quality. But, a Stinger, with a dual turbo motor, a sophisticated trans, all the current safety features and electronics, there are a lot of things that can go wrong.
Established brands have a hard enough time getting the new tech to be reliable.
Still, that’s what warranty is for. And, Kia has a very good one.
If it weren’t for that, I may have bought that Stinger a couple of nights ago. As it is, the sales person’s phone calls are coming about every hour or so, even though I told him I’m not in the market. You can tell it’s end of the month.

My son takes after me, preferring BMWs, Jeeps, and Mazdas, although he could probably be lured into a Porsche(as could his dad).

Well, a base RWD GT like that stickers for just under 40k, so with 18,000 miles and considering the discounts on left overs, that seems like plenty for it.
Odd though, clearly a GT But it shows the 4 cyl shift lever. Or does only the AWD, or higher level GT, get the fancy one?
I just looked on Autotrader, 500 miles of Houston, very few GT's, cheapest one about $37.4
At that price, a new GT2 at $41k starts to look more appealing. Or, more realistically, wait and see if they manage to sell any. If they do, the used prices will come down, a lot (just my opinion).
Q....that’s a massive drop in resale. I wonder if that’s typical or if there’s a “Story” that goes with the car?
That particular one is the cheapest I found, but also no options. I found quite a few in the 30s that are GT1s and GT2s.
Q...there’s something weird about that one. The badge on the rear isn’t correct. There’s a “STINGER” logo where the Kia logo should be. And, the shifter looks like it comes from the 4 cyl.
I’m not so sure that’s a GT. Wish they would show under the hood, that way you’d know for sure. Conveniently, out of all the pics, none are from under the hood.

I thought the same thing about the shifter, but the autocheck report does state it is a GT. I wonder if they changed some things as the year progressed. Maybe its a very early build. (??)

I agree about no pics from under the hood. They took 32 pics but couldn't sneak even one in there to show what's under the hood. Maybe that thing was run so hot that the hood is now welded shut.

That is true, but he did it the hard way. I know when they brought over the first Toyotas he thought they would be a joke, the big thing at that time was toys, were made in Japan. Many people thought Toyotas were like cheap toys...one rumor was that if you scratched the paint off a Toyota you would find it was made from a tomato juice can.
He was pretty adventurous....we had one of the first TV sets in our city, the first Morris Oxfords brought from England, and he was so upset with his last Ford and GM cars that he tried a Camry and always did like it the most. I am not as adventurous, I stick with what has worked for me in the past. 1985 Camry;

Why would you buy a new car, and why would you use all these floor mats for a mat in the trunk? nd yeh, no shot of an engine. Plus, it has 18000 miles on it...that is 1 1/2 years of driving on it....the C's had under 5000, some 2500.

”Hi...hope all is well with you. I am busy health is good not much else.
I just got this from his old travel ball coach out here in the desert.
Justgot this from Pat
Forgot to text you. Was out in Vegas. Saw some scouts. They just had meetings. Some of the Midwest scouts were asking about a kid from the desert in Nebraska 🤷🏻♂️
So he is doing well out there it seems. Pretty exciting. Off to Kyle next appointment. I love you.”
Anysigning bonus would be great. But everything has to fall into place. So it's great he is getting noticed and talked about in the western region when he is 4000 miles away. That means alot. Those meetings are meetings to discuss with each other who they are looking at in this region and to have Dylans name come up in those meetings, means alot because his name is bouncing around to more scouts and they will appear more at his games. So it's really good.
Well, I guess the kid is still attracting major league scouts - even in Nebraska! Yeah!

Well, at least you made me laugh, your brother put me to sleep. It was good reading at bedtime.
The bold text above is from my grandson’s traveling coach from earlier this year. He states he was in Vegas at the scouts national conference and was mentioned by several scouts.
The underlined bold text above is my son’s assessment of what’s going on.
I was just looking up how long tires should last, on average. Probably regular tires should last 3 to 4 years with normal driving...36 to 48k miles. Then the article talked about tires can get dangerous even with few miles, if they are old, about 6 years and they could seriously deteriorate. They gave this as an example which I never heard about before....I think this part of the story got forgot;
The investigation into the cause of the 2013 accident that killed the actor Paul Walker revealed that the Porsche Carrera GT in which he was riding had 9-year-old tires. The California Highway Patrol noted that the tires' age might have compromised their drivability and handling characteristics, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Good luck to your grandson Mike. These are things you just never know how they will turn out, but, the kid sounds like he has lots of potential.
I once worked at a crappy job setting up bargain books in supermarkets....at least I learned about books and remainder books. The guy I worked with was Doug Marshall and he told me how he took his daughter to various bars to sing...and he said she was really good. I always thought, yeh, I am sure she is good, but what are the odds she will ever make singing a real career. Well, some guys from Sony came to watch her, invited her to California for a demo, and she went on to a music career....Amanda Marshall! After a short time she bought Doug a Lincoln.

He was pretty adventurous....we had one of the first TV sets in our city, the first Morris Oxfords brought from England, and he was so upset with his last Ford and GM cars that he tried a Camry and always did like it the most. I am not as adventurous, I stick with what has worked for me in the past.

Why make a car that isn't that great looking to begin with even uglier?

nd yeh, no shot of an engine.
Plus, it has 18000 miles on it...that is 1 1/2 years of driving on it....the C's had under 5000, some 2500.

Am I supposed to be able to recognize that engine? Those "pipes" on top do look vaguely familiar, but offhand I can't place it.
”Hi...hope all is well with you. I am busy health is good not much else.
Any signing bonus would be great.
Yeah!

You never know......
