I paid over $1960 in sales tax for MKZ, even after the discount/trade in credit was applied. CT now changes $100 to trade you car in! Dealer also has to pay a fee when they sell one!

We'd both like to know where that money goes. Have you noticed the state charges a $10 Clean Air Act Fee and a $10 Fee to get into all the state parks with the registration every 2 years? My property taxes have gone up too (a lot of that is local gov't).

Bah, mere pikers down there in the land of the free. Up here in the socialist nirvana of Kanada I paid $7K in sales tax alone on the ATS. 15% charged on just about everything.

Ab, didn't you have a trade-in? Shouldn't you pay sales tax on the difference only?
You're on a roll!! I might suggest not using anything with an open flame the rest of the day...
Just hold on until tomorrow. You won't even remember what happened today.
Why? Did something happen today? I don't remember!🤪😜
Dementia? I'm a little concerned. We've had our DIL and son's Wheaten Terrier for almost 2 weeks. I find I'm talking to her... as if she is human. I even give answers sometimes. Is this a sign of impending dementia?
She is the type which wants to stay within a couple feet of her human. If I leave to run errands or go to car show, she sits on the rug inside the garage door waiting for me to return.
I haven't been around dogs since my youth on the farm. But I think I'm going to miss her when she goes back home after the "kids" are back from NZ. I won't miss the 6:15 wake up whining call to open her kennel and take her outdoors for a potty visit.
The back windows of my Cobalt look like they're frosted from her nose on the glass for 2 weeks. I'll have to clean them.
If someone owned a dog and didn't talk to it, and even have conversations, I would be very concerned !!

Good to know. My service advisor said the allow about a day and half for the appointment, so with any luck I will be leaving around noon on Tuesday Oct. 22. (FYI, you camp at the factory. They tow your rig into the shop at 7:00 am and bring it back around 4:00 pm). I do have waze, so can use that to help as well as local radio.
Northern Kentucky is using federal money for an increased enforcement on I71-I75. Second was Columbus Day. I don't see one scheduled for Tuesday, 22nd, but just be aware until you're past the rest area. Not all tickets were for speeding, but lots of other reasons. No such thing as instant plates in NJ. Doubt it will happen since that would probably eliminate a number of MVC jobs that are occupied by friends and family of someone in favor.
I was just there again today to register the Charger. Took about 30 mins this time. Cost with tax and tags was $825.
Speaking of temp tags, when I went to replace it, I noticed something that previously escaped me. I have a special plate frame.
Dealers issue ("expires OCT 2020") decals that are applied to an existing plate. Here in FL, the registrant owns the license plate - even if the car is leased, the plate is transferred to the new vehicle.
When I turn in my leased S450, I remove the plate and retain the registration certificate and it is then transferred to my next vehicle.
If a new plate is required because there is no trade or lease return, the dealer issues a cardboard temporary tag. The license plate is then picked up at the dealership once the car is registered - the tags and registration are sent to the dealer by the tag agency the dealership uses for their registration process.

Did that happen on a PC or an Apple based computer or tablet?
The worst sites are those who peak your interest with a startling title, then after you’re hooked, they take you page by page, each containing a small paragraph or sentence, with very little information. Those sites also have hypersensitive ads in that they respond to a minimal touch or click to take you to the given advertisement. Often they’re loaded with phishing scams. Last week on my iPad I got an alarming message saying I was infected by three viruses. I was able to quickly get out of it and did a virus scan which of course yielded no viruses. I also occasionally get those congratulation screens which are going to reward you with a gift certificate in exchange for answering a brief survey.
I guess I’m thankful I’ve not had any of those IRS phone calls recently :@.

A single flawed data point. Short sales month that excluded labor day bs that holiday weekend counting for december last year. Besides, sales should never be looked at in just 1-mo increments, IMHO.

So much going on in the market that it is hard to tell one single deciding factor. Are people keeping their cars longer because they got a lower number than expected on a trade in and now they are under water instead of even or having equity? Are the new cars too much mire than the one they just bought/leased 2-3 years ago? Have people gotten off the @isellhondas “leasing hamster wheel?” and decided to buy used or CPO?
Look at our microcosm of posters here. @qbrozen ditched his leased BMW and bout (2) used cars (Equinox & Charger). @breld on CCBA actually had an Audi Q7 that he held on to for an entire year. 2 1/2 years ago I bought a CPO Infiniti Q40 (sold it to Carvana) and now lease a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport.

We had the Mercury national club meeting during the summer here in Dayton. I posted some pictures here on Edmunds.
A couple years back it was the Crown Victoria Ford meeting... That was exciting because of all the Canadian models.
Next summer will the the Falcon diamond anniversary for 60 years of Falconing... God willing, I will get to go visit the displays and activities they have for Falcon owners. However, it's not one of my gotta see cars at shows, but the collective presence will be invigorating. I remember my first ride in a Falcon with another student and it must have been one of the first couple year models he had. SLOW.
I'm hoping to find there are other national shows here or within a range I can travel to see next summer.
There was a national meeting in Auburn that I didn't go to. GTO national was in Lawrenceburg IN and I chose not to go there. The Firebird TransAm group meets here annually and I've gone to a couple of their large cruise ins but didn't go this year.
Over the years I have enjoyed seeing a few of the more oddball Falcms at various shows. One of the memorable ones was a beautifully restored (and I mean nut-and-bolt original, everything better than new) bare-bones 1960 model, plain-jane sedan. Of all things! But it was fascinating to see because you never see anything like that. A few others of note were convertibles, Futura hardtops, and wagon versions. They can be engaging to look at. I suppose if you don't want an early Mustang like everyone else you can have something a bit different.
when I browsing the 599 page owners manual, i saw a section on an inflation system instead of a spare. Took a look in the trunk, and there is an actual spare tire in there.

Those Falcons were slow and weak little things. My brother had a 1964 stripper model. They look a little better if you get a top of the line Futura or Sprint model. I have seen some more recently, probably look OK with nice wheels and a stronger than original engine. Not that special to me...now a Mustang show would be interesting.
Went grocery shopping this morning and parked to a newer Camaro in a very nice blue color. I found the interior to be pretty austere.....and of course I wasn't impressed with those extremely narrow windows. Not much light gets in:
Picked up a couple of prescriptions at Kroger a few minutes ago. Parked in the lot next to me was a pale yellow Corvair convertible with the top down and a man and little girl in backseat waiting from someone. Beautiful.
I attempted to use the navigation in the TLX today (the built in one, not Google maps through carplay). I could not for the life of me figure out how to enter an address (got to a list but couldn't scroll down). Need to read up on that. Finally had the bright idea to use voice commands, and it seemed to work, but nothing on the map. figured out later I must have done it through Siri, so my phone was happily navigating away but the car knew nothing about it.

Oldfarmer, you were asking about car sales earlier...looks like the market is down about 11% on the month. ....................................2019...............2018....% change Sept.Jan-Sep 2019..Jan-Sep 2018.. %CHG YR Grand Total (Est.-Sept) Total 2019-1,272,726 Total 2018-1,432,102 % CHGE -11.1% Sales Jan - Sept 2019 - 12,756,729 Sales Jan - Sept 2018 -12,905,844 % CHGE -.2%
Toyota and Honda were down significantly in Sept, but only off a bit on the year; CHART, CAR SALES 2019 General Motors sales decreased 10.4%, while Ford sales fell 11.8%, and FCA sales fell 9.3% in September. Tesla’s estimated 16,000 sales in September were up 13.5% from the same month in 2018. Among Japanese companies, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru sales decreased 16.5%, 17.6%, 14.1%, 11.4% and 9.4%, respectively, while Mitsubishi sales increased 0.2%.
I refuse to have no spare tire with just regular tires and a can of fix a flat. And I also have no interest in run flats, but they are at least better than nothing.
I paid to add the spare tire kit to my TLX. Pretty much guaranteed that way I will not get a flat! So that is really a must have for our next car. Thankfully since it will be some sort of CUV it is much more likely to come with a spare. Even the BMW has it as an option.
When leaving the grocery store this evening I noticed a bright yellow Pinto sitting there. There was an older couple getting in it. It was in like new condition. It had to be restored...but why?

Look at our microcosm of posters here. @qbrozen ditched his leased BMW and bout (2) used cars (Equinox & Charger). @breld on CCBA actually had an Audi Q7 that he held on to for an entire year. 2 1/2 years ago I bought a CPO Infiniti Q40 (sold it to Carvana) and now lease a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport.
The one thing I’ve learned about business since starting to work for my family’s plumbing supply back in 2002 is that business is consistently inconsistent.

I posted some pictures here on Edmunds.
A couple years back it was the Crown Victoria Ford meeting... That was exciting because
of all the Canadian models.
SLOW.
I'm hoping to find there are other national shows here or within a range I can travel to see
next summer.
There was a national meeting in Auburn that I didn't go to.
GTO national was in Lawrenceburg IN and I chose not to go there.
The Firebird TransAm group meets here annually and I've gone to
a couple of their large cruise ins but didn't go this year.

Took a look in the trunk, and there is an actual spare tire in there.

I do have a AAA membership. They cannot tow you from the interstate.
I paid to add the spare tire kit to my TLX. Pretty much guaranteed that way I will not get a flat! So that is really a must have for our next car. Thankfully since it will be some sort of CUV it is much more likely to come with a spare. Even the BMW has it as an option.
