I got 33 mpg in an E400 today....avg speed 75 mph. Miixed is 27, not bad considering 330 hp and 4400 pounds.
That's pretty strong for such a heavy car. Sweet!!
Highway mpg: 2004 bmw X3 22, 2008 bmw convertible 26, 2012 bmw 535 27, 2015 MB E400 33.
Now I don't feel guilty, I have increased my gas mileage by over 30% in about 10 years. No wonder there's a glut on the market!
Well you got 33% once. Mixed is 27 so you've increased by 23%.
I don't have a calculator nearby in the Florida place, so I just did those numbers in my head...which isn't the most reliable. Out of about 18 guys who play tennis in our group, and most of very normal regular cars (Fusion, Mazda, Explorer about a 98, LaCrosse,), 3 have older Corvettes. Now doesn't that seem odd....there must be a reason for that somewhere. Also, one Ford Cobra, so that's a high percentage of older sports cars.

Your phone likely has a calculator in it. If it's a non-smart phone, under Tools? If it's an Android, it's there somewhere among the apps :grin. I'm still learning how to use my Android. It's so versatile as to how it can be set to function. I am still learning after about 4 weeks. Using Chrome and Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) for the OS, it's like my phone is more powerful than the second generation Macintoshes I used after the Mac Plus that I got for desktop publishing back when most people didn't know what desktop publishing was.
I wonder why I waited so long to graduate to one. It will be worth the extra cost over my base Tracfone flipfone I was using. But it's still a prepaid minutes phone for talk/text/data.
I am setting it up with bookmarks and apps for driving to Pigeon Forge sometime this spring or summer. We haven't had a trip longer than 3 hours drive for so long. We'll see how my wife's back tolerates the drive. I've planned it around the Chic Fil A locations along with Bob Evans in case we need to stop during the 5-6 hour drive. In my Android, I've got traffic cameras linked in TN and KY. I will be able to use Google maps while driving to check ahead for backups so I don't get caught in one of those hours long stoppages.
BTW, ChicFilA.com has a trip planner that will show a graphic map for us visual learners as well as given a digital list with distances and exits to guide us to the locations.
I get 24 mpg in commuting, which is 25% city, 25-50% congested highway (20-40 mph at capacity, multiple stops or slowdowns), 25-50% uncongested highway. Pure uncongested highway it goes up to 29-30 mpg (constant driving 75-80 mph), could do better if slow down to 65-75 mph, pure city it falls to 18-19 mpg. The car has sports suspension and with UHP run-flat all-season tires, which probably has small negative influence on the mileage.

I never really appreciated what Amazon and E-Bay can do for the average consumer since it has been many years since I have attempted to purchase something on either site.
I have a 30" Toshiba HDTV/DVD TV (1080) that I purchased at BrandsMart about 5 or 6 years ago. I keep it in my room on a table. It includes a DVD player where you insert the DVD movie into the left side of the monitor and it plays your DVD for you. Over the years, slowly but surely, the remote for the TV/DVD has started to fail. I was not able to use the remote for certain functions due to age of the remote or lack of use, etc. I use my Comcast Cable remote to turn the TV on and off and to adjust the volume and change channels, thus I have not used the remote I have for the Toshiba for most functions, except for DVD play and select.
I inserted a DVD movie this morning into the TV/DVD and after it read the disc, it displayed a menu. I tried to select an item from the menu and enter the selection, but those two functions were not working. So I changed the batteries and still it was not working. Only certain functions were operational like "on/off", change the screen settings, but nothing else works.
So I went online and located Toshiba - gave them a call - but the remote that is built for my TV is no longer made nor do they have any on hand. They told me that only that particular remote can be used for all the functions - even universal remotes do not operate with my particular TV. They referred to to a third party parts business, but they, too, no longer had any available.
So I went on to Amazon, but no luck - they did not have the item I was looking for.
So I went on to E-Bay, entered Toshiba TV/DVD remote #SE-R0305 and low and behold, there it was. A seller had several new ones still in its original box. $27.95 including tax and shipping costs, and it will be here on Tuesday of next week.
Now that is enough to convince me that if you need something no one has, E-Bay will have it and I will use E-Bay whenever I have a problem like this.
My luck, after I get the new replacement remote, the TV will stop working! But it sure is good to know there are sources out there that are helpful.

My E400 has 2200 miles on it (purchased on 12/12/14). City mpg's are averaging 20 mpg (significantly better than my CLS550 which gave me 16). Highway mpg's (65 mph sustained) are 33.6 right now compared to 26.3 on the CLS550.. I am getting a combined city/highway 22.9 mpg (most of my driving is suburban and city) which is about 4 mpg better than the CLS550. So going from a 4.7 V8 twin-turbo (402 hp) to a 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo (330 hp) has increased my average mpg's about 20%, give or take a mile per gallon here or there.
And I am enjoying the E400 immensely due to better visibility, ease of entering and exiting as well as increased headroom. I loved the CLS550, but it was too low, poor rear and side visibility and getting in and out of the car was not easy for me.

Perfect. The remotes like other touch button devices have a conductive coating on the back of the rubber layer that contains the buttons that show through the front of the device. The conductive coating deteriorates with age and use. Usually the 5 button starts not reacting when pushed first, in my experience. I got rid of the Panasonic phones because the 5 button was starting to fail. I took the phones apart but the repair coating I had purchased to fix those problems, didn't.
I have used Ebay to purchase just the rubber layer behind the front of my GM remote openers. Very cheap just to replace rather than replace the whole remote, e.g..
What may happen is that the rubber layer in the replacement remotes has age on them even though they are in the box new. So they may not last as long as they would have when they were new. I compare that to buying a set of tires that have been in the tire store for 3 years before you buy them. Then they start to show aging rubber in the sidewall when you've only had them for 3 years. But the remote will extend the life of your TV.
I have had good luck putting the part or model number that is on the remote into Google. I do that with books and the ISBN to find them at the used booksellers. I did that with just the name of my family genealogy book that was done when I was just leaving high school back in 19XX. Author of the books from Pittsburg is long dead. No bookseller in US had them although a few libraries had a copy. Found a copy for sale in UK. Had to purchase a check in Pounds because they wouldn't take Euros as currency. Had it in my hands 2 weeks after getting the check from the California based check exchange that I sent to them.

The internet is a wonderful thing.
Thanks for explaining everything in ways I can comprehend. Good point about the new remote I am getting. I'll check it out as soon as I get it. I am also going to care fore it a lot better. My TV is working great and has for 5-6 years. Crisp and clear HDR and the colors are still very vivid. I would buy another Toshiba if and when needed.
If you search for the model you currently have on google, it's probably no longer available. If you go through current Samsung models with the same size and features as yours, they probably cost 1/6 or less of what you paid. That's especially true for the smaller sizes such as our Sony in the bedroom which is 26 inches IIRC. Even better quality TVs at Walmart and online are really cheap until I start pricing into the larger sizes that now the desired models. I'm looking to replace my Sony tube TV that's 30 inches that's in a cabinet in our living room. So it can only be so big, limited by the size of the cabinet.

I have the same TV and use it in my work out room for P90X3 (just finished my first 13 weeks and LOVE it), this is great to know as my remote is working 95% of the time. If it gets much worse I will jump on eBay as well.

This will make no sense at all but it is worth a try.
Last year, when we got back from Florida the remote device wouldn't work on our 50 inch LG TV...about 6 years old.
I was going to buy a new TV, but I happened to mention it to our company IT expert guy. He said take the headphone jack, and plug it into the TV, take it out and do it several times.
I thought this sounds like a total waste of time, but I better do it because he'll ask, and I can honestly say I tried it.
Unbelievable, but it WORKED!
It's worth a try. I called LG and they said they would send someone to repair it, estimated cost $300. I still find it hard to believe. Our IT guy said it just resets it, kind of like a reboot. Go figure!

From what I hear about the traffic in the Miami area 22.9 mpg is amazing! My E has close to 5000 miles on it....still a thrill each time I get in it. I like the way the tech stuff is relatively easy to operate. I also like the comfort and vision. I would prefer tighter steering, more feel, not as floaty...but that is a minor thing....overall my E400 is about as good as it gets.
I don't have a calculator nearby in the Florida place, so I just did those numbers in my head...which isn't the most reliable.

One small problem....I don't have a U.S. cell phone, and if I did it would only be a basic pay as you go phone only.
But thanks, nice of you to offer the solution.
BTW....did that guy on the other site find a car that would suit him? He had a BMW 7 Series that was costing a lot in repairs. He wanted a large car that would be maximum $40k. I forget what site he was on.

Speaking of immensely enjoying my new E 400 Sedan, guess what came in today's mail? An offer to buy a new Jaguar? NOPE! A notice for Jury Duty? NOPE! A "passing a red light" on camera summons? NOPE!
I just received my first recall notice on a car that I still own!!! Driver100, take notes on this as you also might have a recall notice waiting for you at home. I copied the recall notice letter for you guys to look over. I have an appointment for next Tuesday morning to bring it in to have it inspected and, if a problem is found, fixed. The service manager told me it takes 10 minutes to inspect and if there is a need to do a repair, it takes 20 minutes more. So, according to the letter below, it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Here's the letter I received:
SUMMARY
Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that in certain Model Year 2013 - 2015 E-Class and CLS vehicles, the rubber seal on the top edge of the secondary bulkhead in the engine compartment may not be secured properly. If this occurs, a portion of the seal might be lifted from the secondary bulkhead. , and under adverse circumstances, may drop into the area between the engine and the secondary bulkhead and contact parts of the exhaust system, specifically the catalytic converter. Should the catalytic converter be sufficiently hot at the time of contact with the seal, the risk of fire increases. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will attach four additional retaining clips on the rubber seal in the engine compartment. NHTSA Recall Campaign 15V088

So, this is the recall and what it's all about. I contacted my brother, got the VIN # of his car, and went to mbusa.com to check to see if his E400 Convertible is on the recall list - but it was not. I guess it's the E Class Sedans and CLS Class (same body as the E Class sedans) that are affected.
Like I said at the beginning of my post, this is the very first recall notice I have ever received for a vehicle I still owned/had in my possession.
I'm not sure if we spoke about this here too, but on chronic car buyers anonymous we had a discussion about this hand written note from the car dealers. Very clever marketing. The penmanship looks real and there's even a smudge on mine to make it look more realistic. Mine reads as follows:
"Bradd
I wanted to drop you a quick note purchasing your 2010 Acura TSX.
I need it now and frankly, I think you will be pleased with my aggressive offer.
It's easy and you don't have to purchase anything!
Talk to you soon,"
Signed by the GM of the dealership with her phone number, extension, & business card enclosed.
Maybe I should drop her a note and tell her that the list she bought is outdated and that I traded the car in three years ago;)

@driver100, That poster with the 740, posted the exact same thing on motortrend site.
I thought there was something about that guy. He has a 7 Series with lots of miles and he doesn't like all the repairs he has to do. He obviously wants a luxury car, but he wants to pay $40k max. His best bet would probably be a Buick Lucerne , Cadillac CTS....might have to be one year old, or a Lincoln MKZ. One guy gave him a list of the 10 best possible luxury cars to buy, but only about 2 of them were under $40k.
At this point he has to narrow down his wish list.

I think it is trying to tell you something....like maybe, it's time to it trade in.
Thanks for the heads up! Occasionally if car companies can get away with it they won't do a recall in Canada, even if they do in the US. I thought you were going to have to do jury duty. I hope I can avoid that one.

Driver, no way - no how!!! This car is going into service next Tuesday morning come purgatory or high water. They will install the required clips and I will be on my way.
I looked up the recall by VIN# on the NTHSA site and it came up as a recall. Driver, you can go to the MERCEDES site and enter your VIN# to see if you are on the recall list. Or, go to NTHSA site and put you VIN# in.

Does the US NHTSA site index Canadian delivered cars in their database? Or is there a CHTSA site?

But they may only list "USA" delivered vehicles. I believe there is a Canadian site for Mercedes Benz which might be more appropriate.
I I found mine on that site, though. Click on "owners, then go to bottom of page and there is a link to recalls. You enter your VIN and if there is a recall, it will show it as well as a copy of the letter they sent out.

There is a Transport Canada site that says the 2015 E Class has been recalled for that exact problem. I'll see if I can narrow it down by VIN, but, I will write to my sales rep to see if he has any info.
I got a call from my Mercedes dealer's service mgr. this morning. He said that he noticed that my car was included in the recall and said I should bring the car in any time today and he would squeeze me in. So, it took 25 minutes to install 3 clips and the car is now being washed.

Speaking of recalls, I was contacted twice within the past week regarding two of them. Both of them were ones I knew about.
The ATS has a recall for the sunroof switch control panel. Apparently the housing the switches are in does not recess them enough for the safety nannies to be happy, and they think there is a risk someone could accidentally hit the auto-close switch and injure someone somehow. I am tempted not to have that done but I don't think there is any way around it once it goes into the dealer for its first service.
Then I got a notice in the mail from GM for a recall on my former Regal. Right around the time I returned it to the dealer I heard about this one. The front turn signals use 2 bulbs and apparently if only one of them burns out, the computer does not respond by doing a quick flash to let you know, so there is a software update to fix that. You'd think that since the car was returned to and then sold by a GM dealer, that GM would know there is a new owner, but apparently not. I emailed GM Canada to advise that I do longer own the car. No acknowledgement yet.

Don't feel bad about receiving a recall on a car you traded. The recall notice I received was on the "first" E 400 they delivered to me - the one I had to return. I still have not received the notice on the car I own. But when I entered the VIN on MBUSA.com, it showed it as a recall.
but at least it's done. So I await in anticipation for my official recall letter!!!

All cars have gremlins in them - yours have merely remained hidden. If you keep it long enough, one or two are sure to surface - hopefully after you sell or trade it!

Well, yes. I was expecting you to get greeted by your sales force (I'm sure you have your own personal department there), have them make you a dynamite offer for your car and get you into an E250 BlueTec that someone special ordered and didn't pick up for a very generous discount off sticker:)

As you are well aware, "I" am my own sales force - never needed a salesman to talk me into buying a car - I talk myself into buying new cars much more definitively. As an example:
I say to myself, "...gee, I have that itch again that I just can't seem to scratch away! Must be my body telling me it's time to get some new wheels. There's a nice car in the showroom - "itch", do you like it?" Itch says to me, "...I don't care which new car you buy, just get it over with already so I can stop twitching and itching you!"
So, Bradd, as you can see, I'm my worst enemy - my itches!!!!

It seems that once the car leaves the original owner it is hard to track down new owners when there is a recall. They wanted to make it a requirement that used car sellers should have to certify that all recalls have been done. But, the used car dealers put up a fight against that.
Something like 25% of cars aren't repaired under recalls.

Yep! Had a cappacino, visited the lavatory, met a nice old lady who was flirting with me, and thanked Jonah for squeezing me in to do the recall.
Were you expecting something else, Bradd?
I didn't know that was part of the new Mercedes waiting room experience!
Speaking of Smart phones and TVs, I must say I am getting a lot of mileage out of my Samsung Galaxy 5 smart phone. First off, I bought a Roku 2 streaming stick that converted my 60" TV to a smart TV.
And here's the really nice part, I can view everything on my cell phone on my large TV screen including, pictures, videos, email and Internet. The technology that permits this is "Screen Mirroring," it is so easy even I could do it without my granddaughter's help. In the phone settings, simply click on "screen mirroring," and that's it.
With a Netflix or Hulu subscription the Roku and Smartphone combo make cable TV an expensive indulgence. Oh, and by the way, the Robu can convert any TV to a smart TV especially in hotel rooms where movies are expensive.
Not sure if the iPhone has the screen mirroring technology but I'm sure there is something similar.

Also, one Ford Cobra, so that's a high percentage of older sports cars.

it's there somewhere among the apps :grin. I'm still learning how to use my Android. It's so versatile as to how it can be set to function. I am still learning after about 4 weeks. Using Chrome and Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)
for the OS, it's like my phone is more powerful than the second generation Macintoshes I used after
the Mac Plus that I got for desktop publishing back when most people didn't know
what desktop publishing was.
I wonder why I waited so long to graduate to one. It will be worth
the extra cost over my base Tracfone flipfone I was using. But it's still a prepaid
minutes phone for talk/text/data.
I am setting it up with bookmarks and apps for driving to Pigeon Forge sometime
this spring or summer. We haven't had a trip longer than 3 hours drive for so long.
We'll see how my wife's back tolerates the drive. I've planned it around the Chic Fil A
locations along with Bob Evans in case we need to stop during the 5-6 hour drive.
In my Android, I've got traffic cameras linked in TN and KY. I will be able to use Google maps while
driving to check ahead for backups so I don't get caught in one of those hours long stoppages.
BTW, ChicFilA.com has a trip planner that will show a graphic map for us visual
learners as well as given a digital list with distances and exits to guide us to the
locations.

The internet is a wonderful thing.

through current Samsung models with the same size and features as yours, they probably cost 1/6 or less of what you paid. That's especially true for the smaller sizes such as our Sony in the bedroom which is
26 inches IIRC. Even better quality TVs at Walmart and online are really cheap until I start pricing
into the larger sizes that now the desired models. I'm looking to replace my Sony tube TV that's 30 inches
that's in a cabinet in our living room. So it can only be so big, limited by the size of the cabinet.

Thanks for the heads up! Occasionally if car companies can get away with it they won't do a recall in Canada, even if they do in the US. I thought you were going to have to do jury duty. I hope I can avoid that one.
