Around here, if the overnight low hits freezing, they slather some roads in de-icer even if the dewpoint is 20F below the air temp. After some botched snow events in recent history, now they over-react. I suspect the brother in law of some official owns a de-icer company.

Speaking of walking to school, my parents always looked for a house near a good school. In grade school I lived across the street for awhile, and I was just a few blocks away for most of high school. Pretty good planning on their part, now that I look at it.
Speaking of walking in snow we’re expecting up to a foot (if you can believe the weatherman) and they’re spraying the roads with brine again. I could hear my car rusting away.
BTW, when I walked to school in the snow I had boots. You must have been poor!
I used to walk about a mile and a half to school - and come home and go back at lunch time....and in those days there was way more snow than there is now, before all this global warming.
my parents had the same house from before I was born until after I graduated HS. it was pretty much centrally located between the elementary, middle and HS. So I walked to every one of them. HS was at least a Mile I would guess. Others close to the same (none of them were actually close). So I walked (or sometimes, including elementary, road my bike). Never once road a school bus to school.
all our upstate family was happy to be getting home before the snow hit. Our son normally went back on Sunday after Thanksgiving, but he headed back today also.

I turned around and walked out. No way was I going to spend a half hour standing in line.

I'm waiting for a "I walked to school uphill in both directions in 3 feet of snow in shoes made from old cereal boxes" kind of line from some people here
Good point about fast food, it might be cheaper than healthier food for those who live in food deserts or simply lack time time or knowledge (hence the obesity crisis as the socio-economic reality devolves).
Well...I wasn't going to say anything but now that you mention it.

For Jr High I had a mile walk each way along a street that only had sidewalks about half the way. I walked that in all types of weather.
My best friend at the time lived about a block or so closer to school and took the bus, I usually got home before he did.

Up to 8th grade I got a ride to school with the neighborhood car pool but walked about a mile to my grandmother’s for lunch. For the first 2 years of high school I got up early and delivered newspapers then walked to school.
Third year of high school they opened the new school right across the street and I learned to drive.
I never looked back.

Another reason to back in - it is usually easier to pull out,
But then it's harder to pull into the spot. All you are doing is changing which action is more difficult.
Might be my imagination but I think the most chance of an accident happens when BACKING out of a parking spot. When backing in, people and cross traffic are visible......not always when backing out.
While I dislike drivers not using turn signals, I think some deliberately don’t use them because they think if they signal other drivers won’t let them in, which is true, unfortunately.

I think a lot of people buy pickup trucks so they can tailgate and feel indestructible, also get a lot of pleasure out of feeling like a bully.
I think that can be true, and probably comes naturally from driving a locomotive. Had a situation like that today. I was on a 4-lane artery where the right lane is the travel lane and the left lane is used by people making left turns at signalized intersections that are at intervals ahead. There wasn't much traffic today and as I drove in the travel lane I passed a merge lane on the right where I noticed a F-150 coming up the grade. In my rear view I saw the F-150 merge some distance back behind me and immediately slide over into the left lane and begin to accelerate. He was still a ways back as we cleared the first intersection and I could see some left turn traffic ahead in the left lane at the next, so I sped up just enough that the F-150 wouldn't be able to pass me before he encountered that. He swung back into line behind me and began tailgating, probably irritated. Poor baby.

We had our first significant snow event this past week and both the city and provincial road crews botched it royally. They claimed they were surprised by an unexpectedly early switchover from rain to snow but the result was that no plows or salt trucks were on the roads in time and traffic literally ground to a halt. It took some people 5-6 hours to get home from work amidst the gridlock. No consequences for those responsible for clearing the roads of course.
We were actually pretty rich, I had shoes made from old tires
I remember seeing those shows years ago! The soles were old tire treads cut into the correct shape of an outsole.

People like being scared. That explains the popularity of scary/horror movies and the like. The weather presenters in the media have caught on and now over-hype every passing cloud. It is weather as entertainment. Blows their credibility out of the water, but hey, it's ratings and clicks!

A Fox commentator had a good joke regarding that. "It's like nobody in the NFC East wants to win the division."
It's funny cause it's true.
Ravens didn't cover the spread today. They just had to get a TD at the end rather than wasting downs and accepting a FG. Oh well. My son convinced me to count on the Rams to win by more than 3, so maybe that will mitigate the loss. Haha.

There were more Philadelphia fans in the stands at the Miami game here today than Miami fans. I must say the Dolphins played like a pro football team this afternoon beating the Eagles.
The Dolphins are 3-9 on the season now. They play the Jets next week in NJ and the Giants the following week in NJ.

That makes sense. I think a wireless camera, and the monitor being up near the rear view mirror if it can be wired into the mini console on the roof...which has lights in it would be the easiest and least invasive way to do it. I will say, this indie shop seems to be very professional, 100s of reviews and excellent 5 out of 5 ratings. But, then again, messing up the infotainment system and all would be a bummer.
Supposed to be a low of 46 here in the Pompano Beach Florida area tomorrow night! Now, that's a bit chilly for us but we'll see if it really does get that low. the way cars are designed these days you can't really just rely on mirrors. Huge blind spots all too often directly behind.
I agree. When my friend had his Maserati he was backing out of his driveway. His neighbor parked very closer than usual to his path coming out.....the blindspot is huge on the Maserati. He hit his back quarter panel - cost $2000. A camera could make a big difference.
Even if I back into something and dent the bumper or trunk, it could easily be $500 or $1000, plus time and inconvenience.......a backup camera is cheap insurance.
I am glad that I never moved back to upstate NY. My son in Albany said they were up to about 8 inches of snow in the first 9 hours today after it started around 1 this afternoon. And much more to come through Monday EOD.
If I got that kind of snow this early in the season I would be looking for a nice place next to Driver, and moving ASAP.

Did I ever tell you the day I decided to quit teaching? I was teaching Grade 4, and I was on recess duty. A Grade 6er was running around with a Playboy magazine, with the centerfold open. I called him over, and took the magazine away from him. He started to yell that he knew I was going to look at it later on. I took the magazine and tore it into little bits and threw it into the garbage can. Next thing I know, 20 little brats are running around saying which body parts they had found. I said to myself....I can't do this any more!
I thought you were going to say the parents came in to complain that you "stole" their son's Playboy magazine. Those same parents would tell you how you should have handled the situation, despite their having _no_ experience in education beyond having had a child and reared him to that age.
My wife still gets mad about parents complaining that homework in 3rd grade and 5th grade was interfering with their soccer practice time. The district had a mandatory homework policy: it was part of the classroom daily process.

Yes, they looked very bad. Loss of talent on offensive side is really showing. But I've learned to never write them off as they usually go through a rough stint every season. I do wish they would get some QB depth though, one good hit and TB12 is done.

I barely trust turn signals any longer. Seen too many folks go right through an intersection with a blinker on. Even if they're slowing up to make the turn, I tend to stay put until the vehicle actually changes direction.

It's funny cause it's true.
Ravens didn't cover the spread today.
They just had to get a TD at the end rather than wasting downs and accepting a FG. Oh well. My son convinced me to count on the Rams to win by more than 3, so maybe that will mitigate the loss. Haha.

I will say, this indie shop seems to be very professional, 100s of reviews and excellent 5 out of 5 ratings. But, then again, messing up the infotainment system and all would be a bummer.

Even if I back into something and dent the bumper or trunk, it could easily be $500 or $1000, plus time and inconvenience.......a backup camera is cheap insurance.

If I got that kind of snow this early in the season I would be looking for a nice place next to Driver, and moving ASAP.

I took the magazine and tore it into little bits and threw it into the garbage can.
Next thing I know, 20 little brats are running around saying which body parts they had found.
I said to myself....I can't do this any more!

My wife still gets mad about parents complaining that homework in 3rd grade and 5th grade was interfering with their soccer practice time. The district had a mandatory homework policy: it was part of the classroom daily process.

You didn't give me a chance to answer if I wanted to hear your story but I did like. But leave it to you to have screwed up the situation. You should have done what the kid said and kept the magazine to read it later. Believe it or not there were times when that magazine had some pretty good articles. Don't get me wrong, while they may have been good, the photos were still better. What's wrong with you?

I remember, the parents of one kid said I should do whatever I wanted to the kid if he misbehaved....I had their permission! Since they weren't getting anywhere with the kid themselves, they wanted me to fix him.
