My sister just had both her eyes done, easy peasy according to her. Interestingly on the first one she was awake the whole time with just numbing agents used on her eye. She went back for the second eye a week later and they wanted to give her a general anesthetic, which she pushed back against given her experience the week before. When she asked why she was told that they didn't have an anesthetist available that time but they did this time. She refused and it all went according to plan with just local freezing while the anesthetist sat in a corner stewing about his lost fee.
Several years ago I bought CTEK charger for the Cutlass and its winter hibernation. They don't seem to make my model any more but it looks something like this one:
It has been great and is small so it is easy to keep under the car cover too. Looks like the prices have gone up significantly since I bought mine though.
I bought the BMW branded CTEK and then went to Amazon and picked up the "Comfort Connect" cord that attaches to the battery clamps with eyelets. CTEK also makes other attachments and monitors.

Had my right eye done a few years back as I was myopic. Saw distance out of my right eye, read out of my left. Wore glasses all the time which sucked. My vision in that eye was off the charts my eye doc said. Within an hour of the surgery, it was already 20/25. Unfortunately, my reading eye didn't come back 100%, so I need reading glasses now to read. But it was a trade-off I knew about before but was willing to take. About 3 years later, went in again just for a touch-up procedure and it helped a bit. Now, have 2.50 reading glasses all over the house as we both wear them. Hit the Dollar Store where they cost $1.00/pair and stock up like we did. Seriously, I bought about 12 pairs, gave a few to my wife and the rest are by the couch, the easy chair and I always carry a pair in my shirt pocket just in case. You should have no problems. A suggestion though. I was alone that first night, got the dates screwed up. On the bottles of drops I took home, had the neighbors write on them in large black numbers when I needed to use both of them. One was like every 12 hours and the other like every 6. So we put a big "12" and "6" on the correct bottles so I cold tell the difference. Worked like a charm!!

Fridge was delivered from Lowes this morning, then the dishwasher was delivered from Home Depot. I see to register the Whirlpool fridge you can mail in a card, or take a picture of the barcode and text it to Whirlpool.
Now I have to learn how to use the digital controls to turn the freezer temperature down....the old one had a dial, the world is getting so complicated.
It isn't as hard as you think. Look at the "quick set up guide" for how to do it. Easy peasy.
When the "pro" installs the dishwasher, make sure he doesn't damage the drain stub on you new garbage disposal unit. I know someone very well who had this happen to them. :@

My brother-in-law is good at this stuff. Maytag isn't easy, really made in a Mickey Mouse way....hook ups are hard to get at....kind of tinny. Bosch was all put together the right way....it all made sense. After about an hour we finally had it ready to push in, and I noticed the door had a dent on the side....pretty major. It must have fallen off a shelf in a warehouse. I called the store...they said good I reported it within 24 hours. This one took a week to deliver.....they don't carry white in stock, and it costs $90 extra. Another week of going out and eating off throw away plates!
This is from March of 2018, but did Ford really make cars where the steering wheel can come off in your hands? Is this like a 3 Stooges movie? Ford is recalling 1.4 million vehicles because the steering wheels can become loose and even come off while driving. The automaker says it is aware of two accidents and one injury that may have been caused by the problem. The affected models are the Ford Fusion and the Lincoln MKZ, both from model years 2014-2018. Ford (F) said the problem is that a steering wheel bolt could come loose, which could cause the steering wheel to potentially detach.
The recall applies to every version of the Fusion:
Graphic, your plan to want to move to PR is great but truly, I'd try it out for a few months before you pick up stakes and totally move. Sure, it sounds wonderful now and it just might turn out great, but by dong that test run if you will, you'll find out if in fact it's at all doable. Will your bank or place to access $ be near, will there be doctors that can take care of you, things like that. By doing a test run, you might also see other parts of the country and find a better spot. Ponce is a really nice city as is Mayaquez, both on the western side of the island. Was on that west side twice as a young adult and liked it better than San Juan. By doing a test run, you'll be able to see if this is really gonna work. You also might want to look at places to retire. Places like Santa Fe or Taos in the west I hear are very nice. Lots of folks like Arizona. Mexico has an allure for many. The Dominican Republic has many Americans I'm sure. But, point is, try it first to see. If you decide it's the right place, then, hell, go for it. But educate yourself as best as you can beforehand to ind total happiness. Back when I was about to turn 15 in 1969 and my dad retired at 47, he really wanted to go to Mexico or Puerto Rico to live. The rest of us hated his idea and wanted to stay here in the U S, but he was determined to get his way. Life is odd sometimes and while making his decision, his dad, my grandpa, got awfully sick and my grandmother really needed him. Since he was the oldest son, he knew what he had to do, so he moved us to South Florida where my grandparents had been coming for the winter since the early 1950's, had a condo in North Miami. We moved down in the fall and that next summer, they went back up to their summer home in New York to sell it as they were now to become full time residents of Florida. All I'm sayin' here is to try it out first before you totally commit. It might be paradise after all, but, it might be just the opposite. But you get the opportunity to find out first!

GG, I believe in the theory that after you do all the research, go spend some time ( a season maybe) renting where you think you want to retire. A little test drive to make sure before you are fully committed. I know some people that did that with Florida. picked a different area each winter for a few years to try it out and when they figured out the one they really wanted, bought a little place there.
Driver, my daughter bought new appliances (fridge and range, the only ones the kitchen actually had!) when we were sprucing up her new house. The fridge came and we discovered a decent sized scratch on the left side. delivery guys just said to call the store while it sat in the driveway. They offered to take it back and send a new one at some point, or keep it and get IIRC $100 knocked off. key was, don't put it in the house first!
she jumped on the money back, because the scratch was not all that noticeable. I think it was on the side you see, but she just put a fridge magnet over it, and you could not see it. Plus of course, she is even cheaper than I am!
OF, we picked up our regular chase vehicle today. It's a large black Ford Transit 15 pack! The one with the raised roof so we can stand up in the vehicle. Too big for me really, just don't feel comfortable driving one. Luckily the guy who was off Wednesday is back, and has no issue driving anything he says. Turns out he transferred from the St. Pete area where he's been working for Enterprise a couple of years. So, he did most of the driving. The fifth driver is supposed to start the end of the month. When the other five will show, who knows. Was told we're only dealing with the vehicles no longer in the rental pool. The ones that are sold basically. Today we took a few trucks and an SUV to a used car store in Ft. Pierce Florida and then took more vehicles down to the Manheim auction in Hollywood Florida. Took us the whole day basically and got back to base at around 6 pm. Funny, at Hertz I dealt mostly with the daily rentals going to the locations but also dealt with turn backs, wholesales and body damaged vehicles. But prefer doing this new gig as we'll be traveling over more parts of the state and I prefer the long distance driving anyways. Guessing since you're in the tri-state area, makes sense that you travel to other area around you. Hopefully we'll get to see more parts of Florida like I did back before I came to Hertz. Quick question, how does your group gell? So far, our small group is doing o k except there's one guy who knows everything about everything and likes to talk. By mid afternoon, I just had had enough and missed not having my headphones, something that I'll start carrying on Tuesday. Seems like at every job I go to, there's always one guy like this. So far, I've been keeping pretty quiet because I'm trying to figure things out and kind of memorizing where we're going so I'll know where to go next time. I also am pretty shy at first with folks I've just met. Another driver told me at the end of the shift that the talkie talkie guy had said some stuff to him that made him uncomfortable and he said he was a christian and didn't talk about such things. So I knew I wasn't alone here. Hoping that when we get our full team of drivers, that the more mouths will help to make him talk less. And think that's exactly what'll happen. Best to be friendly with everyone but not a know it all or a suck-up to the lead driver. If it's one thing I've learned over these past 6 years of driving, it's to keep a lot of stuff about yourself private, telling co-workers to much about yourself isn't always the best thing to do. Best to be friendly but, not over friendly if that makes any sense.

LOL, some days our entire van is full of know-it-alls. While there are a few characters who I'd rather not work with I can put up with just about anybody for the few hours that we’re actually together. The way I look at it, people in pain need to share it with those around them. You have to feel sorry for those folks and not internalize it.
I don’t mind those big 15 passenger rigs. It’s like being back in my old school bus. I drove one out of Vermont in a snow storm one night last year. No problem.
How do you like delivering to dealers? We run the gamut from places where you just throw them the keys and leave; to hard cases who go over the car with a microscope and act like you personally caused every defect. Sometime you'll drive for hours only to turn around and take it back.
The worst cars to drive are long term lease returns. Most are trashed, filthy or dangerous to drive. One van reeked of battery acid and another was used as a dog kennel. We picked up a truck once that had half the driver’s seat missing like it had been chewed by wolves.
Certainly not dull work.

Would like to thank everyone for the fridge talk this week. I think you jinxed us. The 21 cu ft GE Cafe fridge that came with our house when it was built 7 years ago upped and died this morning. Compressor and power unit gave out - irreparable. I’m not impressed.
So, did you know that it is virtually impossible to get immediate delivery of a refrigerator in the weeks after Black Friday? Virtually every store - big box, local etc was quoting delivery on or after Christmas.
Thankfully, we found a local appliance store that could deliver this Monday. They were super helpful, matched the big box pricing, and have guaranteed delivery and haul away. Ended up going with a Kitchen Aid 22 cu ft stainless steel french door refrigerator.

I guess it's a good thing Ford dropped that "Quality is Job One" tagline some years back.
I just got the new Collectible Automobile magazine and was reading an article about Chrysler's 1979-81 R-body sedans (New Yorker, Newport and Gran Fury) which had quality problems that seem unbelievable today. It got off to a flying start when the Michigan governor at the time was called in to drive the first one off the line at the assembly plant and it wouldn't start.

Ab, I agree with your advice to GG. We rented a few years in Florida, before buying, and we learned what we needed and what we don't need or want. A place on the water would cost 4X as much. But our real reason for being here is to GET OUT OF THE SNOW AND COLD. Happy to be inland in a nice normal community, no tourists.
A samll dent I could live with. This is major and could affect performance. I think it was assembled and painted after the dent, it almost looks like part of the design.

We waited 3 weeks for our fridge. Fortunately, the old one was still running, but what do you do if your fridge breaks down? I am not confident about GE, seems they really went downhill and are starting to work their way back up. 7 years for a fridge that is getting ridiculous!
Our fridge arrived yesterday and seems pretty good....like I say, digital controls will take awhile to learn how to use. It says normal fridge temp is 37F, I found my orange juice to be pretty cold, and freezer 0F....ice cream is like cement!

Several dozen Ford Fusion owners complained in recent months that their steering wheels had come loose or had come off completely while driving, according to a USA TODAY review of federal records.
The defect triggered a massive Ford recall announced Wednesday. The automaker said it would fix 1.4 million Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2014 through 2018 model years.
Ford acknowledged that "potentially loose steering wheel bolts" could "result in a steering wheel detaching from the steering column."
The company said it was aware of at least two accidents and one injury connected to the defect.

Back in May, our fridge of 31 years finally gave up the ghost, one of the side by side doors rusted off. Happened on a Wednesday night about 7 after work. Went over to Home Depot but nothing for a week. Hit Lowe's and they said "how about Friday afternoon"? They even gave me the new sales price that started Thursday morning. They had put the new signs up a bit early so they met that price saving me an additional $500. It's a Whirlpool side by side with ice/water in the door, just what we wanted. Only small issue is it's not counter deep, that one was more and didn't seem worth the premium price. Plus, it wasn't in stock and we didn't want to wait much longer. Looks fine really, just comes out about an inch or two from the cabinets. As long as the other half was fine, so was I. And yes, it's an early "Happy Hanukah" gift!
P.S. At around the 6 month point, red light came on telling us a new filter is needed. My kid found a website to get them a bit cheaper which I'll order from after the holidays. Went to Lowe's to get this first replacement though.

Sandman, ours is a Whirlpool side-by-side too...but it is the counter deep model. The old one was a base side-by-side and the doors were getting tarnished and yellowed....it was 18 years old. This counter deep model is a lot smaller inside, but it makes the kitchen look bigger. Have to not over by now...it is OK for us, as long as I don't overdo Publix Moose Tracks Frozen Yogurt.(got 6 in there now).
The filter light comes on at 6 months without regard to the volume of water which has gone through the filter. I wait about 1.5 years before replacing ours. The water for the ice and for the hole-in-the-door water supply both go through the filter. I figure they estimate the replacement based on a family of 4 using only water from the fridge and for ice use in Florida... We get a lot of our water from the faucet on the sink.
I consider the 6 month flashing light gimmick like SiriusXM's games.
I quickly learned how to reset the light for another 6 month run. Now I just ignore it when it comes on.

On Tuesday morning I am having the first cataract surgery - right eye. I Opted for laser rather than scalpel - $1675 for each eye. They told me they place a new lens into my eye - supposedly good for distance only - will need progressives to see medium and close distance (reading). So I become farsighted after the surgery - I was nearsighted all my life.
I am quite anxious about Tuesday. I start putting two different Eyedrops 4 times a day starting tomorrow. One of my friends is driving me to and from the surgical center and I think my daughter is staying with me Tuesday night just to help me out. Then my friend picks me up Wednesday morning for my first post-op appointment with the surgeon.
But i am very nervous about this and the surgery on my left eye in January. 🤓😞😞
You'll be fine. My choice was for the single focus lenses. When I couldn't understand how the multifocus lenses worked without needing a battery to change focal lengths (LOL), I went with the tried and true that my friends had had done.
Your trials will come in how your brain reacts to having one eye focusing from distance up to about 5 feet away with little noticeable out-of-focus effect. You other eye will be focusing nearby. If you currently wear glasses you may have to go with a single lens for a while. I had someone I talked to who was nauseated because of the difference between the two eyes duirng the wait period before the second surgery.
Someone else I talked to presurgery had both eyes done at the same time because the ophthalmologist said he would have that problem during a transition period. Apparently they felt he was at little risk of having a problem with either replacement. Sort of like the few people who have both knees replaced at the same time rather than a year apart.
Or depending which eye is dominant, your brain may accept the old eye for closeup focusing and ignore the new eye, while for distance relying on the image from the new eye and minimizing the input from the old eye. Because my lenses turned out with the first focused a little close, that's the way I am--monocular. Ophthalmologist says my brain won't unlearn this pattern.
They don't build em like they used to. The ~1965 Coldspot still purring along in my grandma's garage smirks at modern equivalents.
I hope I don't jinx it, but the basic Hotpoint fridge in my kitchen dates to when this place was built, 2002-2003. Zero issues, seldom even makes an odd noise.
I think my mom averages under 10 years on a fridge now. The one before her current model she bought used, as she can't resist a bargain. I think she got 18 months out of it, then replaced by a new one. But I think she paid no more than $200 for it, so maybe not too bad.

Mine are multi focus in each eye. Kinda cool. The technology keeps improving by leaps and bounds. It took about two months for my brain to figure it out, but it’s really nice now not to have to wear glasses.
Sounds like the old joke about a loose nut behind the wheel.
We may have talked about this at the time....seems to me I remember some pictures of this:
Every car I've ever had could do that but you needed a few wrenches to do it. More internet hype. I'd be more impressed if I could see the cars that actually had the problem. I seriously doubt that's the way they came off.

JM, that was just a picture I found. The recall was for cars where the steering wheel came off while driving the car.
Once again you confuse me. Why would you knowingly post a picture that is a misrepresentation of the subject you are trying to prove without noting that. Slinging out info like that is exactly what leads to a credibility problem with internet information.

I thought of writing "This is only a representation of the real steering wheel coming off in the drivers hands", but, I thought readers would realize that wasn't a real incident. I think most people understood that, but, there is always one...............

That Red Green piece is hilarious.....what a mind, he was born in Toronto and grew up about 10 miles from where we live. I mentioned the Ford steering wheel because a friend sent me a piece by Ticked of Vic. I won't use the URL because of the strong language, but he is on youtube, Ticked off Vic Ford Recall.
Thanks Imid! Now that I am totally confused, I feel much better.😃

All I know is I must have heard from about 50 people who have had cateracts done....and all of them are amazed and happy with the results. For many, their eyesight is much better than they ever remember it being.
I had laser done in 1996....$1000 an eye. Mrs D watched them doing it on the TV monitor in the waiting room, I would get sick if I watched it being done. My eye doctor has been amazed at the results I have had. Up until about 10 years ago I didn't need glasses to read...now I get 1.5s on Amazon for $5 each. That time for adapting is what worried me. When I talked to the screener about my concerns and my history, she agreed I'd be better off with the single vision lens.

Posted a Camry because that is the only picture that had a steering wheel that was in the drivers hands.
