A toyota product or Honda with a flaw? Say it's not so!!!!!
For decades the GM/US car makers were treated as though flaws were the end of the world. This toyota problem should be front page news in the auto world.
And just when I was thinking about shopping the foreign brands...
The Toyotas with detachable steering wheels must be particularly thrilling when the uncontrollable acceleration kicks in.

I was thinking you'd find a drop dead gorgeous trade rather than a new vehicle. You can spend a little money for it and help the US economy there in FL. Your car looks good and surely has a market keeping its trade value good. Go for it. Have them put a big white Christmas bow on top--tell them they can make a Christmas commercial out of you and your wife picking it up! (for a fee?)
Yes, it has everything I would want. I think it makes sense in some ways. The hardest part is giving up the 2014 for less than $12000.....I think if I could get $14 or $15k for it......but, I don't think that is possible. Guess I have to sleep on it, if the stock market goes up 1000 points on Monday I may go for it, but then...............

If it were only that easy. If I go for it it means a pretty big commitment, the dealer is a tough 45 minute drive away, and I don't think we would be close enough. Suppose I could try to get a ballpark on the C250.
The really good news is, Mrs D hasn't really said "NO". I think she would prefer I keep this one....but, might be on the fence....I am sure she would like a backup camera and blind spot mirrors.
After my daughter returned from participating in a marching band Christmas parade, she parked in the back of the driveway as my car was blocking her. Later I moved mine into the garage and then moved hers up. The low tire light was on and underscored the left rear tire. It was down to 18 lbs. I asked her why she didn’t alert me to this. It was a surprise to her as it wasn’t on when she returned. Found a nail in the Sidewall. Of course not repairable. Her car now sports 4 new tires. Bah humbug. The joys of car ownership.

Why did you replace 4 tires? Just wondering, 2 of mine went last year and I got 4 new ones.........glad I did, the new tires don't slip in the rain and the car drives and handles better. If I didn't do it then I would probably have to do it now anyway.
driver, you are hooked. Just make the drive (take Mrs. D to lunch to soften her up while you are out) and see what they say. Ask for a trade difference, and see where you are at. Then just make an offer of what you want (car + $13,000+ TTL?). If they take it, great. if not, move on.
at least if you get it, you can subtract $600 from the net cost, not having to do the BU camera on the antique.

that sucks. Same thing happened with my father at Thanksgiving, and he car only had about 5K miles on it. Thankfully the nail was in the tread and repairable.

Put it on Craigslist for $14k and sell for any offer over $13k. Plenty of buyers for a low mile car like that. Put “only driven to pickle ball by elderly owner on Sunday” in the ad and they’ll be breaking down your door.

Probably AWD. Supposedly one tire with a different tread depth screws up the system over time. Never had an AWD vehicle so I can’t be sure that’s true or just a scheme to sell tires.

Though the other tires were in good shape, they were 60% worn. The price they wanted for two identical tires would have been over $500. With the TL doing light duty, less than 2k mi since March, I was able to have 4 new decently rated tires installed for the same amount.

Had a similar issue in September. Two tires were pretty well worn and the 3rd wasn't too far behind. Priced tires at a couple of places and ended up at Goodyear and got Eagle GT's. At the time, there was a $25 rebate for installation and a $100 rebate if one took out a Goodyear credit card. Turns out, that same day a new installation rebate offer went into effect raising it to $60, so I saved $160.00 total with a 12 month no interest payoff period. The $100 came in the form of a debit card and it's already been used. Paid off the tires the end of November as I hate owing anyone $ to be honest. But yes, things like tires and batteries need occasional replacement and usually at the worst possible time. Luckily I was able to shop around for the tires to get the best deal I could. ANd the Golf does drive so much better.

I am thinking along the same lines stick. Mrs D is in favor of proceeding....if she likes being in the car and if she likes driving it. When she tried it in 2015 she found the dash was high and the windows narrow, seating too low....that is why she preferred the GLK.
I have written to the dealer to get a ballpark figure for a trade-in. I thought, if I can do it for $12k all in I think I would jump at it. I kind of like a white exterior more, but the red feels good, and this one seems to be calling out to me.
It is a long hard drive to one of the busiest places in Tampa

I'm not going to do Craigslist, especially down here. I lose the difference in sales tax.....and risk my life.
before i got the Elantra I looked at some used cars. Test drove both generations C class back to back at a local MB specialist used car place. Nice long drive, solo. I liked the 2014ish one (drove it first). seemed very "MB"ish. Solid, sturdy, and reasonably user friendly. Staid might be a good word for it. But I could easily see driving one. But of course, light on modern features.
then I drove a 2016ish one. Completely different car really. More complicated user interface (I gave up on stuff like playing with the radio) but way more goodies. felt a lot different too. I think smoother, much lighter steering, stuff like that. It has been a couple years but I think that driving the newer one took the older one off my list! But a new enough one was out of price range so I passed entirely. I did not quite trust the new style soon to be out of warranty.

It is true.......all tires have to be close in tire depth. My Mercedes dealer did replace just one tire.....said they were all close enough. My Mercedes dealer has been very honest...could have charged more several times now.

Those would be my impressions too. The 2014 is probably not as refined....makes it more of a classic Mercedes feel. The controls in the 2016 are way more complicated, but would work similar to my 2017 E, so I think I can get used to it. There is something pleasant about the simplicity of the 2014.....refreshingly simple.
One big problem is Mrs D is going home this Fri to next Thurs (Toga Parties here!!!! ), and this will be a busy week so I don't think we will have a chance to buy a new car.

We have to try it. When we bought the 2014 we liked it more than the 2015s with the new design. In the 2014 you sit higher, dash is lower, windows are larger....Mrs D liked those features. But, sometimes you get used to a difference like that. I thought my 2012 BMW 535 had limited vision, but I got used to it, until I sat in the 2015 E400 and saw what a difference there was.

Driver, I am sure you will find that many new cars with limited visibility (smaller windows and more blind spots) are equipped with blind spot monitors, parking assist (360 degree cameras tied to computer), pedestrian warning and braking systems, etc.
I've been out looking at cars to get an idea which ones fit well (front seat) because I turn in the S450 in 10 months. I was shocked to find many of the cars are too low (my head hits the inside of the roof even with the drivers seat in lowest position). Getting in and out of car with my bad back is difficult. Also, rear and side windows very narrow. I am seriously thinking about the Genesis G80. I just hope the driver's seat is comfortable. I know it has all the nanny tech features I want.
I've gotten very used to driving a big car with the use of sophisticated technology to assist in maneuvering, parking and backing up. I depend on my rear view mirrors first - but the technology has assisted me in avoiding many potentially dangerous predicaments.
I would suggest that you and Mrs. D take the new car home for a few days to get used to the feel, visibility, etc. Most dealers will provide customers with a demo for a day or two for just that reason.
By the way, if I do get a G80, it won't be the sport version - seats too hard and narrow and the ride much too harsh for me. It will be the standard G80 or the V8 version.
If I get the G80, I will lease it. They have some great lease deals. I also like their extended bumper-to-bumper warranty and free maintenance for 3 years.
Mike, I am glad we aren't the only ones who find the new cars aren't built in the same way. The new safety devices help, but, it is still nice to have as much clear vision as possible.
Another car I think could be a great one to buy would be a 2016 E 350. Mostly driven by older drivers, excellent vision, would have most of the devices.....only a 4 cylinder available in the U.S. but I could live with that. The depreciation is huge, so could probably get a nice low mileage one at a good price. Maybe even an estate sale bargain! One of the best cars for comfort and vision I have been in.

On Tuesday morning I am having the first cataract surgery - right eye. I Opted for laser rather than scalpel - $1675 for each eye. They told me they place a new lens into my eye - supposedly good for distance only - will need progressives to see medium and close distance (reading). So I become farsighted after the surgery - I was nearsighted all my life.
I am quite anxious about Tuesday. I start putting two different Eyedrops 4 times a day starting tomorrow. One of my friends is driving me to and from the surgical center and I think my daughter is staying with me Tuesday night just to help me out. Then my friend picks me up Wednesday morning for my first post-op appointment with the surgeon.
But i am very nervous about this and the surgery on my left eye in January. 🤓😞😞
Easy-Peezy. Takes barely 5 mins. Had mine done a couple of years, ago. You’ll be able to see better almost immediately. Drops in the eye for 3-4 weeks afterwards. You’ll be able to drive the next day.
I had mono-vision...one eye far sighted, the other near sighted when they did the lens implant.
At the time, my insurance only paid for scalpel. My surgeon actually said he prefers to use a scalpel as he has more control.
Heard about that and wondered if you knew the defendant. As they say, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

There is a new E450 coming out as a 2021 very early in 2020 (April/May). It will be powered by an in-line 6 cylinder engine with a turbo. Supposed to be close to 400 hp. I might look at that also. All depends on leasing incentives.
I left a message....he emailed and left a voice mail message too, sounds like a real slick guy. Mrs. D is as interested as I am. A bit of a logistics problem finding the time, but may go and look tomorrow.
One thing I really have on my side........I don't need that car and if I walk out I have a car that I am still very happy with.

Cash would be nice but for a $12-$14k transaction I would want to transfer the actual funds at the buyer’s bank. Again, a secure location, guarantee that funds are available and verification that the buyer is who he says he is. You watch him draw on his funds so you know the teller check is good, sign the title over and take an Uber home. Even better if you bring a friend to give you a ride and backup.
A shady character won’t want to do it that way so there’s your red flag.

I remember 15 years ago when I switched cars, I put my old car on CL just to see the responses - hurt my faith in humanity. Between the low-ballers making offers without seeing the car, and those wanting me to deliver the car to them at a relatively distant location just so they could look, I was shaking my head. Luckily, the uncle of the finance manager at a dealer I had shopped wanted a car like mine, and he gladly bought it at near asking price, so it worked out.
I wouldn't want to deal with randoms in a place like FL either.

Put it on Craigslist for $14k and sell for any offer over $13k. Plenty of buyers for a low mile car like that. Put “only driven to pickle ball by elderly owner on Sunday” in the ad and they’ll be breaking down your door.
I'm not going to do Craigslist, especially down here. I lose the difference in sales tax.....and risk my life.
Meet at the police station.
.....and hope the guys check clears at the bank....or does he bring cash?
Cash would be nice but for a $12-$14k transaction I would want to transfer the actual funds at the buyer’s bank. Again, a secure location, guarantee that funds are available and verification that the buyer is who he says he is. You watch him draw on his funds so you know the teller check is good, sign the title over and take an Uber home. Even better if you bring a friend to give you a ride and backup.
A shady character won’t want to do it that way so there’s your red flag.
Should I ask my really strong friend who can break bones with his bare hands to come along?
Talked to sales guy. Sounds so slick.......I know you would love to get into the beautiful Designo Red Metalic 2016 Mercedes etc etc....and, btw....my manager really wants to sell some cars this month....yada yada.... Have an appointment for tomorrow afternoon....really tight schedule and very heavy traffic in that area.

Sometimes lucky to survive dealing with normal folks down here.
So you’re used to it. If you can handle a slick car salesman you should have no trouble with a shaky meth head.
Wait until New Year’s Eve to make your offer if you shop the dealer and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. My verified experience is that dealers have a mark up of about 30% over cost so use that as your guide. My buddy got 25% off just for the asking on NYE.

The really good news is, Mrs D hasn't really said "NO". I think she would prefer I keep this one....but, might be on the fence....I am sure she would like a backup camera and blind spot mirrors.

Just wondering, 2 of mine went last year and I got 4 new ones.........glad I did, the new tires don't slip in the rain and the car drives and handles better. If I didn't do it then I would probably have to do it now anyway.

at least if you get it, you can subtract $600 from the net cost, not having to do the BU camera on the antique.

Probably AWD. Supposedly one tire with a different tread depth screws up the system over time. Never had an AWD vehicle so I can’t be sure that’s true or just a scheme to sell tires.

But yes, things like tires and batteries need occasional replacement and usually at the worst possible time. Luckily I was able to shop around for the tires to get the best deal I could. ANd the Golf does drive so much better.

I have written to the dealer to get a ballpark figure for a trade-in. I thought, if I can do it for $12k all in I think I would jump at it. I kind of like a white exterior more, but the red feels good, and this one seems to be calling out to me.

then I drove a 2016ish one.

If I get the G80, I will lease it. They have some great lease deals. I also like their extended bumper-to-bumper warranty and free maintenance for 3 years.

At the time, my insurance only paid for scalpel. My surgeon actually said he prefers to use a scalpel as he has more control.
