I don't think I have had to parallel park since I took my driver's license exam!
Probably a good thing.
I do parallel park...rarely, but I still do. Not nearly as proficient as I used to be at it, especially given I learned to park in a pretty good sized Ford Torino.
A very sad reminder. I lost a very dear friend today. He was a great guy and a good mechanic. He was careful when he worked on cars or when he did other projects. Seems he got in a hurry, didn't secure his car correctly and it fell on him. I am devastated. We are an enthusiastic group of car nuts and I know a lot of us work on our cars as well. Please remember to not skip any steps and err on the side of safety.
Sorry for your loss. That has to be a shock to have it happen like that.

Computers are my business, my livelihood, and have been for the last 44 years. While home networking is not my specialty, it does fall within my wheelhouse.
Forget wireless, buy a pair of powerline network adapters, they start at under $30. Trust me, money well spent. And if you have multiple devices requiring a network connection there in your living room (blu-ray, smart tv, roku, whatever), then get a small 5 port ethernet switch (under $20).
Henryn, are you saying that with the powerline network adapters you don't need wifi, or to use them in conjunction with wifi? Sorry, but am sadly lacking info in this area. I am just looking for whole house coverage. Thx.

Usually the car going straight through has more right of way then cars turning, if they entered at the same time. If you were there first it might help, but, generally the car turning has to give way to the car going straight.....good luck on that one! It is upsetting, it is a hard one to solve....the signal light is a factor too! A witness could help.
EDIT: Now I see you were already turning and she started out from the stop sign, so you definitely had the right of way since you were in the intersection all ready. What she said made no sense, you were turning but she thinks she can still go straight....good thing she isn't too bright.
When two cars both have a stop sign it is the car that stops first that has the right of way, even when that car turns crossing the path of the other vehicle going straight. So if we are traveling in opposite directions on the same road and we come to an intersection where we both have stop signs and I am going straight and you are turning left if you stop before me I must yield right of way to you.

A good lesson to us all that safety should come first. A few minutes saved here and there just isn't worth a major injury or worse.
I've personally been lucky that all of my injuries have been moderate or mild due to carelessness in the past.
Like you I have my fair share of "my god was I really that stupid?" injuries and like you they have all been mild.
On a related note I was working on our workers comp files today at work. I swear some of our employees have to be related to Wile E. Coyote.

OK I am watching the news on TV and we have had a lot of localized rain today. They started a story of a parking lot being flooded. They reporter on the scene was talking about how the cars were owned by the stores workers who didn't know what was going on outside and that their cars were underwater. They showed the parking lot, there was just one car there and while the lot was flooded that water didn't even reach up to the hubcaps of that one car.
Gee talk about exaggeration.

Yes, but I don't know of any BMW or Bentley dealers who pimped out their new inventory and sold them thus equipped off the showroom floor. My in-law's Buick dealer always had two or three of those monstrosities in the showroom and on the front row. And Lincoln dealers were just as tasteless- adding fake roofs to the then-new LS; it drove a few of the suits at Lincoln nuts as they were trying to position the LS as a BMW rival and not as a car for the one-foot-in-the-grave AARP crowd.

Straight salary; the idea being that Geniuses are supposed to be product specialists and not part of the sales team- aside from helping customers find the right car.

I included it for just that reason. Of course there have been lots of "gold" packages added to vehicles by stores of all types. Usually they're not that extreme. LOL
While we're talking about cars that aren't performance cars for track level, I was passed today on a flyover ramp with a large radius by a CTS 4 He had no trouble negotiating the 40 mph ramp at 60+. Certainly not a monster vehicle. LOL
I noticed it because long ago someone commented in one forum that typically curves/ramps can be negotiated by vehicles properly fitted at double the marked speed. I thought about this ramp and decided 80 mph probably wouldn't do it even if you were driving the Gorilla glue car with Gorilla glue tires.
But several days ago I was romping around the curve at 45 mph and was passed by a BMW M at much higher speed than 48. It wasn't a brand new M and all I saw was the M on the trunk as he/she passed on the inside lane. He was doing at least 70 and likely over and had no trouble ticking on the surface which is raked with heavy cross grooves. So maybe 80 for a performance car could happen.
This ramp has had several trucks crash and spill load over the side and more than 1 motorcycle rider has lost their life or at least their bike on this ramp. The first truck crash dumped cardboard boxes of Budweiser cans onto the westbound interstate below the ramp. Lots of volunteers to help pick up the spill I'll bet before the road was closed off.

I have to do it every two years at recertification but I'll be retired before the next one. Many school districts participate in a safety "rodeo" which includes many manuvers you might find interesting.

So hard to compare - that one looks like it started in better condition than ours did. However other than the rebuilt transmission everything else is new. My step mom is ok with me dropping the price further, but at 12-13K I feel like I would be giving $$ away.
We shall see, no bites this weekend and may have to go "blow out" pricing. BTW, a couple more pictures
You guys are killing me. Love the green but it needs a tan top.
Used to have a friend who was a crane operator. He drove an old Chevy van and was always scaring his passengers by pulling into storefronts at "90 miles an hour" and stopping perfectly an inch away from the curb. His motto was "know your vehicle".
I had a great uncle who was a crane operator. He worked at the Houston ship channel, operated a really big crane. He was a good man, and an interesting one. Uncle Don. His hobby was '57 Chevy's. He bought and restored several of them. This was in the mid to late 60's, and looking back it seems funny to say that he was "restoring" cars that were less than 10 years old. But in those days (the 60's) a car that was 6 or 7 years old was junk yard fodder, a beater, a first car for a high school kid.
That's a really well preserved truck. I forget, was it restored to that condition or did your dad take really good care of it?
That would be the star of cruise night. Lots of muscle cars were preserved but most trucks get wore out working for a living.
My dad invested about $6k a number of years ago to have it cosmetically restored.
And, it was a work truck for most of its life. Dad always worked a second job in construction, so it was full of tools or lumber. Also pulled a bass boat for quite a few years when I was a kid.
The last time I drove it around town I got a lot of friendly waves and thumbs up.
Would be great for cruise night, but certainly not as a DD.
Fun fact - I took the truck once on a TSD rally. Was certainly a unique vehicle in the competition.

There's no telling if that one I posted is a mechanical junk or all rusted underneath. So it may not compare with yours. Also you have to consider the market. Seattle may be a better place to sell a unique vehicle than the hills of upstate NY.
Have you considered what you'll do if you can't get near your asking price? Will you keep dropping it or will you hold on to the car?

For sure you won't lose anything to depreciation. If anything if you keep it in good shape it should be worth more in five years.

We went to our tennis weekend in Ellicottville N.Y. One guy had a 2007 Saturn Vue Redline....evidently it has a Honda built engine. He has 220k miles on it, the body looks like new because of the plastic panels. It is red, just like in this picture....I think it looks smarter than most small SUVs on the market today. I\d like to have one! \
We drove one, back in 2005, with the Honda V6 engine. Quite peppy, we both liked it. But it was a LOT more money than the Mazda Tribute we wound up buying. Looking back on it, we should have bought the Saturn Vue. We got rid of that Tribute in 3 years, as soon as it was paid off, as neither of us really liked it. Okay. But just okay. Bland.

Speaking of keeping a car for 3 years....I saw a Toyota ad in the newspaper; RAV4 got $129 biweekly + tax for 60 months, or a Corolla for $98 biweekly + tax for 60 months!
60 months....I never heard of 5 year leases before, what happened?
Taking those lease terms seems idiotic. You can lease one on more normal terms (3 year lease) for around the same amount per month (and this deal of biweekly means two extra payments per year - 26 instead of 24). Buying it for 60 months is probably also a better idea because the second half of a 60 month loan is more principal than interest and you come out of that deal with a title and some value. I think that anyone who takes their offer is either ignorant or has NO credit.
I took a new 750i M Sport for a 30 minute cruise to charge the battery a bit. It truly is an impressive car- although it is much larger than I prefer.
I also took a 650i for a short drive; still a bit too big but it's sure an entertaining cruiser.
Had an interesting delivery story; a couple in their 70s drove up in a previous generation 7 Series and told the young salesperson who greeted them that they wanted to lease a new 7er. They picked one out off the showroom floor and wanted to pick it up the next day. The salesperson asked me to do the delivery because I was a bit(heck, A LOT) closer to his customer's age than the other Genius. It was a very short delivery. The couple was extremely nice, but all they wanted to know was how to operated the radio and the navigation system(which was very similar to the technology in their old car). They also wanted all the driving aids enables- and their car was fitted with ALL of them. The funny part was when I offered to pair their phones- the husband didn't own a phone and the wife had an older Tracfone! Really a nice couple, and likely the shortest 7 Series delivery I will probably ever have...

Probably a good thing.

That would be the star of cruise night. Lots of muscle cars were preserved but most trucks get wore out working for a living.

We shall see, no bites this weekend and may have to go "blow out" pricing. BTW, a couple more pictures
Used to have a friend who was a crane operator. He drove an old Chevy van and was always scaring his passengers by pulling into storefronts at "90 miles an hour" and stopping perfectly an inch away from the curb. His motto was "know your vehicle".

Have you considered what you'll do if you can't get near your asking price? Will you keep dropping it or will you hold on to the car?

Hopefully I can find that person who just has to have it
I have to say you hit a home run with those new wheels. Makes your car look better than any I've seen.

RAV4 got $129 biweekly + tax for 60 months, or a
Corolla for $98 biweekly + tax for 60 months!
60 months....I never heard of 5 year leases before, what happened?
