I took a new 750i M Sport for a 30 minute cruise to charge the battery a bit. It truly is an impressive car- although it is much larger than I prefer.
I also took a 650i for a short drive; still a bit too big but it's sure an entertaining cruiser.
Had an interesting delivery story; a couple in their 70s drove up in a previous generation 7 Series and told the young salesperson who greeted them that they wanted to lease a new 7er. They picked one out off the showroom floor and wanted to pick it up the next day. The salesperson asked me to do the delivery because I was a bit(heck, A LOT) closer to his customer's age than the other Genius. It was a very short delivery. The couple was extremely nice, but all they wanted to know was how to operated the radio and the navigation system(which was very similar to the technology in their old car). They also wanted all the driving aids enables- and their car was fitted with ALL of them. The funny part was when I offered to pair their phones- the husband didn't own a phone and the wife had an older Tracfone! Really a nice couple, and likely the shortest 7 Series delivery I will probably ever have...
Roadburner - I have to say, I would love to have your job. Reminds me when I was a valet in college, not that I delivered cars and answered questions, but always getting to drive the latest and greatest rides out there!
I may hit you up down the road for a few questions on our 2014 X3
So slightly different question - Anybody here look at or buy a Casper (or Tuft & Needle) mattress? I finally got a chance to lay down on a Casper and felt wonderful! Thinking I may pull the trigger especially with the 100 night guaranty.
We drove one, back in 2005, with the Honda V6 engine. Quite peppy, we both liked it. But it was a LOT more money than the Mazda Tribute we wound up buying. Looking back on it, we should have bought the Saturn Vue. We got rid of that Tribute in 3 years, as soon as it was paid off, as neither of us really liked it. Okay. But just okay. Bland.
Weren't they rebadged Fords?

Love those cars especially the 6 convertible. My rich neighbor bought two last year. His house is up for sale for $1.4 million. (Maybe to pay for the cars).
Funny about the old couple. Sounds like me right down to the Trac phone.

Tribute was a rebadged Escape...with cosmetic exterior and interior difference, but the biggest difference was probably, " Since both cars share the same platform, everything underneath is very similar except for spring ratings that are slightly different, being softer on the Mazda. You see, Mazda wanted to give its Tribute a more conservative attitude with more car-like manners while Ford kept the "truck" aspect, an image that it can really carry."
That showroom looks like where you go if you love Corvettes....Corvette Heaven...that would be a good name for that dealership!

I'll chime in as one who'd love a GENIUS JOB with BMW. Only problem there, I'm about as far away from being a genius at anything as you can get.

roadburner -- curious question. Do you ever get tips on your deliveries? And if not, is there a company policy against it? Working with buyers with such deep pockets would suggest that they would be extremely generous. But then again, in this cashless society, even if they wanted to they may not might be carrying that kind of cash around.

I've never been offered a tip and I don't think there's any policy for or against it. My son received one for the first time last week- for bringing a customer's car around after it had been serviced and washed.

You may be interested in this unboxing and review video of the Casper Mattress. From the video, the mattress looks supportive (even with three adults riding it), wide, and heavy. They also mentioned an odor, which does not seem to be objectionable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoUChvD5JPQ

Both of those are foam mattresses I believe. If so, be very careful. I am a bit of a mattress junkie and have gone through many over the years. I have chronic lower back problems and so a mattress is rather important to me.
My back requires a firm mattress to help with my issues. I have had some that felt firm in the store and for a while at home, but after 6-12 months gave up the ghost and caused back pain. A "firm" Sealy I bought in 2012 was like that, and a return visit to the store after 2 years resulted in the news that indeed that model developed a reputation for the exact problem I had and if I wanted to resolve it I could buy the replacement model which had addressed the issue. No thanks, and no more Sealys for me.
I tried many mattresses in-store in 2015. The most comfortable by far of all during the test-drives was a Tempur-Pedic foam mattress which the salesperson assured me was firm, and indeed it felt firm in the store, so I coughed up the $1700 they wanted for it. That was a huge mistake. After about 6 months (beyond the return period of course) I had some of the worst back pain ever. What happened was that while it feels firm when you first lay on it, the heat of your body causes the memory foam to relax and you sink into it over a few hours. Your spine follows that and if you have back problems it makes it very unhappy. When you wake up you are in a divot created by the foam collapsing around you and it was even difficult for me to get out of bed some mornings.
This time I had to go to the top of the food chain with the retailer I bought it from to get a resolution since it was outside their return period. Since their associate had misled me by assuring me it was a firm mattress when it obviously was not they finally agreed to take it back. I then bought a firm fairly high-end pocket-coil mattress from a smallish manufacturer which several months in seems excellent. This one is still the old style flip and turn mattress which is becoming increasingly rare because a one-sided mattress is obviously cheaper to manufacture. Hopefully that will help it last for more than a couple of years.
Any company that sells the idea that one kind of mattress will suit everyone is selling a bill of goods IMO. Everyone is different and while someone in their 20s or 30s may well be able to sleep on anything with only some minor preferences in terms of comfort, other people, especially those of us with some issues related to aging or injury, need a specific type of support. From shopping and talking to salespeople I heard repeatedly that younger people prefer a foam mattress but older folks find them problematic. Buyer beware.

Sounds a bit like me too, but my PagePlus phone (a division of Trac) is supposedly cheaper than a Trac phone. $10 every 3 months unless you actually call people a lot.
We're on our 5th imitation Thermapedic foam mattress from Amazon. Maybe because we've moved so much we haven't slept on the same one for enough years, but they've worked great for us since our Boise years. It's really nice to move and have the same mattress shipped to your door. Air it out for a day or two and you are back in business. Around $400 and you don't need a box spring so you don't have to have a ladder to climb out of bed.
I think I'd like to be a car porter since you'd get to drive around all day. Too bad I get lost so easily....

We too have the Tempurpedic, and it has remained hard as a rock from day one, almost the opposite of your experience. For awhile it was OK, but I always wake up stiff and sore, and on those rare occasions I could sleep in this bed prevents me from doing so.
I know everybody is different, and there are so many different styles to choose from. What really catches my eye is the seemingly endless 5-star reviews of both Casper and Tuft & Needle on Amazon. I am sure some are bogus, and I would not buy either from Amazon (Amazon does not offer the 100 night sleep guaranty that you get by ordering directly.) I think we will roll the dice at the end of the month, and 60 days in if we are not sleeping like little babies I will return it and go elsewhere...Not going to go another 8+ years of lousy sleep.
Since I bought a new car last year I get regular offers from my dealer and sometimes direct from Ford urging me to buy another car. Does this work for dealers? Do people who just bought a car run right out and buy a new one?
For me, buying a new car taps me out and I couldn't buy another right away if my life depended on it. Can't imagine what multiple car loans does to your credit score.

I have had back problems in the past. None recently (knock on wood). I bought a memory foam mattress nearly 5 years ago, and it is still going strong. I paid slightly under $400 for a queen size, from walmart.com with free delivery to store. Some brand name that I have never heard of, before or since. But it has been great for me.
I have slept on one (actually, more than one) of the Tempur-Pedic very expensive memory foam mattresses. They do feel a little firmer, a little stronger, a little more substantial than the one I bought. But for the difference in price, I am very well pleased with mine.
I really like my tempurpedic. Got it for cost through my chiro about 10 years ago. My one complaint would be that it really does trap the body heat, which can be uncomfortable in the summer, so we have to keep the room a bit cooler at night.
I did buy the cheapo memory foam mattresses off Amazon for both my sons, and I find them pretty darned comfy, if too soft for my personal taste.

On the Mazda Tribute - yes, it was very, very similar to the Ford Escape of the same period. We bought one with a V6, and it was reliable, and did what it was supposed to do. Just bland, no fun, unremarkable.
My main memory of the SUV, looking back over many years, was just before we got rid of it. This was my wife’s daily driver. I changed the oil, and washed it, and occasionally ran it down to the corner and gassed it up. But I never really borrowed it, like I said, bland.
So one day my wife borrows my truck (helping one of her friends / coworkers pick up something at Ikea), and I took the Tribute to drive about a 100 miles to see one of my granddaughters play baseball. There was a thunderstorm, and I nearly died as a result. The OEM tires still looked like new at a little over 50k miles, but they had NO wet traction. None. Zip, zilch, nada.
After I got back home, thankfully in one piece, I asked the wife about that. She said it had occurred gradually, over a period of time, and she hated to say anything because the tires still looked so good. My response was, “Tomorrow we get a new set of Michelins, or a new car.” She voted for the new car, and that was that.
Probably, we have a normal mattress cover and that may help with the heat. We've slept on two different Tempurpedics in the last four years housesitting for friends (several weeks at a time) and the name brand seems warmer than the Amazon one (Signature Sleep).
Both of those sets of friends have slept on our foam queen in the guest room and liked it. Our Michigan friend stayed for six weeks (we were away for about half that time ) and liked ours so well she got one just like it and didn't move her Tempurpedic out to Las Cruces.
Our current houseguest has me jonsing for an induction cooktop. Thank goodness she showed up in her old Camry and not a new Volt.
We too have the Tempurpedic, and it has remained hard as a rock from day one, almost the opposite of your experience. For awhile it was OK, but I always wake up stiff and sore, and on those rare occasions I could sleep in this bed prevents me from doing so.
Isn't that odd? My image of Tempur-Pedic now is that of a very soft, unsupportive mattress, so I would love to try one like yours. When I was having my issue I discovered they make many different styles with different levels of support, but the retailer I got mine from only carried the model I bought, which TP described on their site as plush.
I would be hesitant to buy a mattress without laying on it, and having to return it if it was not suitable. A lot depends on the price of course. A few hundred bucks is one thing, but a couple of thou is a different story.
Since I bought a new car last year I get regular offers from my dealer and sometimes direct from Ford urging me to buy another car. Does this work for dealers? Do people who just bought a car run right out and buy a new one?

Yes. I get them all the time...from Ford and Subaru. You don't even have time to get bored and they want you to come on in and buy another one.
Subaru also sends me service reminders, but they don't say whether it's the Forester or the CrossTrek that they think needs serviced. Totally worthless.
I bought a Seally hybrid quite recently. My previous mattress was also Seally, firm coil, relatively inexpensive, it was time for it to go - I bought it 15 years ago for $500. There was nothing "wrong" other than all those bodily fluids absorbed over time, which I believe started giving me some issues (or I imagined). I was always "firm mattress" person, but this time I went a bit softer on the scale and the Seally fit the bill. Tried several places and types, ended up in Sears, from all places (which surprised me, as I essentially haven't bought anything there in last 10 years). One interesting thing, it's quite a bit thicker, so with regular base and regular frame, I actually need to climb on it a little, and I'm 6 ft tall. So far, I'm quite happy - it's been 2 months so far. The price well below that Tempur-Pedic fancy stuff (which I suppose is OK, but all tends to be too soft) - BTW, some of those firm ones from T-P (Flex line) are actually coiled spring hybdrids, but shhhh.... don't tell anyone, you may mess up the advertising.

Target audience....sending offers to Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous. They are a good captive market.
On mattresses, love our Temperpedic at home.
In Florida we have an IKEA mattress, talk about firm...could sleep on a board, but, we like it...also relatively inexpensive! If you want firm...give it a try.
Some mattresses now are ridiculously thick. Used to be most were 10" or so, but now 16" is not uncommon. I think a lot of it is just for show or to make the customer think they are getting something really special with such a thick mattress. Most offer a low-profile box spring now to eliminate the need for a ladder to climb into bed.
I've bought the expensive brands....Sleep Number, who you really have to arm twist to return under their "comfort guarantee". It took me 9 months to return it for a refund, after they guaranteed my comfort. Plus, the mattresses don't hold the air you put into them. Not a good experience.
I have a Tempurpedic mattress, now. Paid $2K for it. I don't care what they say, they sleep "hot". If you're prennially a cold blooded person, it might work. Personally, I'm getting ready to move it into a guest bedroom and get one of those Caspar or Tuft Needle mattresses being talked about here.
Best mattress I ever owned (latex+memory foam) was a Dormia. Had it 15 years, and was going to buy another, but found out they had gone out of business.
I have come to the conclusion that the longer the sales person has to "demo" their mattress, or the longer they have to "sell" you on it, the more you'll spend, and the least you'll like it.
Sometimes when looking at used cars I see a designation such as "Fleet" in addition to the normal trim letters like SE or SEL. Am I right in assuming a "Fleet" edition is a former rental car?
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
fleet indicates that it is a model that is only sold to fleets, so basically rental car only. Like when Chevy kept making the old style Malibu and Impala for a year or so just for rental fleets.
This has to be the first time we are talking about mattresses. What happened to the good old days when we talked repeatedly about Doc fees and dishwashers? But, as usual, this site has brought about another coincidence with me. We are in the market for a mattress too. The one we have is 21 years old. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that my side has a worse dip than before although Mrs. j's side looked pretty good. I have turned and flipped it many times over the years so I don't know why my side has the dip. The only thing that I can figure is that Mrs. j has made a recent transfer of funds from my side to her side.
The good thing about getting a new mattress is that I can sleep on just about anything. I could probably get away with a fitted sheet on a rock but Mrs. j is a little more picky than me but just about anything new will be OK for us.
About 2 months ago we almost bought an $800 job at Mattress Firm but for some reason we didn't. 21 years ago I seem to remember that we paid around $400 for both a mattress and a foundation. I know that I can't get that kind of a deal again and I doubt that I can get that kind of quality again. It wasn't a name brand, rather the furniture stores top of the line offering.
I'd probably die in my sleep if we bought a mattress that cost around 2 grand like some of you guys are talking about.

Back from Germany. The main reason was to spread my mother's ashes on the Baltic sea. It's pretty common over there, so it was very professional and respectful. We stayed in the Hamburg area. The city has 2500 bridges. Sticking to the vehicle topic, my all black F150 would be a rock star over there. Got to drive on the autobahn, biggest adjustment was keeping my eyes on the rear view mirror to get out of the way of the fast movers. Overall, it was a life changing trip. I'm not kidding about that, still trying to absorb it all.
A very sad reminder. I lost a very dear friend today. He was a great guy and a good mechanic. He was careful when he worked on cars or when he did other projects. Seems he got in a hurry, didn't secure his car correctly and it fell on him. I am devastated. We are an enthusiastic group of car nuts and I know a lot of us work on our cars as well. Please remember to not skip any steps and err on the side of safety.
Steve - please accept my deepest condolences to you. I'm sorry you lost a friend.
Thank you Bradd, and everyone for your kindness. I am in Pittsburgh for a memorial service tomorrow, and will return home on Wednesday. Steve

Oddly we just bought a new one too. We did spring for a really nice Aireloom mattress. I think we might not have spent so much if we hadn't spent a tortured month in the new condo camping on an air bed while the floors were being redone. As soon as we flopped on the showroom one we were in heaven. Easy pickings! But I have to say it is really really comfortable. I do notice that most mattresses these days are really thick and fairly heavy. But I don't mind that.
How do you like your Encore? My mom's Venza is due back at year end and she said she likes the look of them and wants something smaller. My stepbrother has one,but he could barely tell you what he drives so even though he says he likes it I'd like other opinions.

But, it does make sense if you use the Driver Method of Cost Justification....how many hours do you drive in your car in a day? How many hours are you in your bed in a day?

Now that I have been looking and convertibles I have seen these M235's and wow I like everything about them...except the price, holy cow! A few grand more and I get a Vette, and 10 - 15K cheaper is a V8 Mustang or Camaro.
Perhaps a 1 year old low mile CPO version could be in my future?
How do you like your Encore? My mom's Venza is due back at year end and she said she likes the look of them and wants something smaller. My stepbrother has one,but he could barely tell you what he drives so even though he says he likes it I'd like other opinions.
We love our Encore. But you gotta like small, which we do. It's got great maneuverability and we find it very comfortable too. We like the seat height particularly and also it's a very quiet vehicle, unlike most small vehicles. Decent MPG too.

I have to say that I've driven the Camaro and Mustang, and I think that the GT and GT350 are legitimate competitors to the M235i. I'm less impressed by the Camaro; good to drive but the ergonomics and visibility are not to my liking. The C7 is an outstanding car but to me it feels a bit cramped inside. As far as the CPO option, I really think that's the way to go. My 2014 2er has79k miles nd 4 years of warranty left and I paid considerably less than what a new SS or GT would cost with an equivalent level of options. Still, of the cars mentioned, there are no bad choices- you just need to choose the one that suits YOU the best.

Have you ever seen the worlds largest miniature train----in Hamburg. I'm not even into model trains, but this would be amazing to see! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACkmg3Y64_s
I know this one guy (actually a friend of a friend of mine) had a business and 5 or 6 years ago liquidated it and all he had left was this big empty building. When I last saw him 5 years or so ago he had started building a model railroad inside this empty 50-60K square foot building. At that time it was only a few hundred square feet of model railroad and he said he wanted to fill up the building. I need to see where he is at, if he even is trying to do it.

Update on the car, there is just under $1,400 in repair costs on the car and the body shop states it will take about 5 days to complete. Looks like I will be taking it in a week from Monday.

Thanks! I'm thinking it may be a little small for her, but she says that is what she wants.

There are several of these huge model railways around...one will soon be completed near Toronto. I believe the one in Hamburg is still the largest and the largest draw. People who see it say it is spectacular.

Do you get a loaner car during the 5 days? $1400 isn't too bad considering.......but, then again, it looks like it would take about 30 minutes to fix it up. And why 5 days, I know paint usually takes overnight to dry. Are they waiting for parts?

RB...you are so mean on so many different levels. I REALLY, REALLY like that. Sort of satisfied my "jones" for 3 pedals and a top that goes down with the COBRA.
Speaking of which, it was SO NICE outside on Sunday, I dropped the Cobra's top and did some twisties to my old college town (Oxford, OH). Got many thumbs up and "honks" along the way as the Cobra was rumbling.
Driver....that train set up is absolutely amazing. I have hobbies (golf, cars, reading, tech, etc), but nothing as entailed as putting together something of that magnitude.

I have slept on one (actually, more than one) of the Tempur-Pedic very expensive memory foam mattresses. They do feel a little firmer, a little stronger, a little more substantial than the one I bought. But for the difference in price, I am very well pleased with mine.
YMMV.
I did buy the cheapo memory foam mattresses off Amazon for both my sons, and I find them pretty darned comfy, if too soft for my personal taste.

I would be hesitant to buy a mattress without laying on it, and having to return it if it was not suitable. A lot depends on the price of course. A few hundred bucks is one thing, but a couple of thou is a different story.

In Florida we have an IKEA mattress, talk about firm...could sleep on a board, but, we like it...also relatively inexpensive! If you want firm...give it a try.
