Here is a quote I got in Dallas on a 2015 MDX FWD base model:
    Sales price: 39850
    Tint/Wheel lock: 255
Total taxed: 42611 (tax rate 6.25%)

Dealer tag and fees (doc, title, license/registration, inspection, ...): 387

    OTD: 43000

Haven't pull the trigger yet. Please comment.
    Cheers

Looks like you're coming in around $500 under invoice. I think that's pretty good for the new base model in September.

You could string them along a few more days and "help them meet quota" at the end of the month, and maybe save a few hundred more. Or you could email some other dealers and see if they want to beat your current quote.

There's not many base models in stock over here so lack of inventory may not be working in your favor.

Heard from my friend that one of his buddies pull off a super deal last year on a 2014 MDX AWD with TECH. 44K OTD. The 2014 invoice on that was 45850. So his OTD was $1850 under invoice!! If it's true, it would be hell of a deal.
    I thought 44K+TTL makes more sense, unless it's loaner/demo.
I am asking him to give me the dealership/sales name. Or maybe he got fired already. :)

I knew they got some of the margin back through tint/lock and higher fees. I gave it a score of B or B-. Not in a hurry to close the deal.

Yeah, but you need tint in Dallas, right? And the fees could be worse. (okay, so I'm not a grinder or even a particularly good negotiator. :p ).

I would guess it would be $44K + TTL. I think I got the lowest $44,117.26 + TTL.

Bought 2015 Acura MDX Base FWD on Thursday evening - in and out in 3 hours.

    Accessories: Wheel Locks, Mud guards.
    OTD - $43,000.

Think it is a good price as there was only one vehicle in Silver Moon color available among all dealers in Houston area.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Congrats @ssp5! What was the price of the MDX before all the taxes and fees?
  • ssp5ssp5 Member Posts: 3
@Stever, the sale price before tax and fees was $40,126.54

I just purchased a 2WD 2015 Acura MDX in Dallas. Below is the price that I received. It took a lot of bargaining and the experience was not fun. I placed a special order b/c they did not have the color combo desired, but could have gotten the same deal had I taken one from the lot.

    2015 2WD Acura MDX MSRP
    $42,565 Base MSRP
    $895 Destination
    $160 All-Season Car Mats (not 3rd row)
    $140 Living Hinge Cargo Mat
Tint/Wheel Locks - included in all Acura at this dealership
    Final MSRP = $43,760

Price Paid = $39,675 for all the above. $4085 off MSRP.

The all season car mats are thin, but they'll probably get the job done.

    Hope this helps!

    Mogambo1,

How were you able to negotiate $0 destination? Thanks.

You may be able to negotiate the out the door price down $895 but I don't recall ever seeing anyone negotiating destination away as a line item before. And that's assuming a "freight charge" is the same as destination.

It's hard for the rest of us to evaluate deals that just list the OTD price, but negotiating based on your OTD number is a good way to go at the dealer, since you don't waste time haggling over all the different line items.

Looking for people's experience with negotiation on a 2015 MDX AWD with Tech. What numbers are you able to get with Chicagoland dealers?

Cheapbargainer, do you mind telling which dealer and also if possible sales person?
We need to move quickly as we are having issues with our current car.

I just told the agent that I have done my calculations will only pay $47,400 including TTL (as I was really maintaining an excel file to do both forward and reverse calculations, and I even took it along with me, I had planted the formulas in it based on others negotiations and how much tax I have to pay in MD). The dealership agreed and I did not care how they broke my final/OTD price down. So really I did not negotiate on individual price components, as I knew ho much each will be.When I saw the breakdown on my Acura loan document I saw they had mentioned destination charges as $0. I did not care since, like I told you above I negotiated on OTD after factoring in all charges (actually I proposed a price to negotiate without including destination charge). SO I thought they must have at least that much margin of bargaining.

TMV for a 2015 Acura MDX SH-AWD w/Technology Package in Baltimore, MD is $46,788. That includes destination of $895 but no other fees or taxes.

Looks like your sales tax there is 6%, so the dealer is "eating" about $2,600 in taxes.

My math gets fuzzy but it looks like a good deal from here, and seems in line with @mogambo1's deal (maybe even better if the tech package wasn't on that deal).

Sorry, I had deleted that car price negotiation data in the spreadsheet, since i ma done with that phase, now I have the one with car loan payment. I would have been happier to share that but I don't have it anymore. What I would suggest you is to add rows with various parameter like price, destination, tax, title, dealer fees and documentation fee and columns with quote from various dealers.
Also add extra rows for state tax, read you state's DMV site for tax information.
And add formulas in it, so that if you plan on negotiating on base price, you know how much would be OTD price for that dealer (but I think by doing so I fear of some unexpected charges, so I always negotiate on OTD price including TTL so that I don't end up getting surprises when I have really prepared mind and sitting in dealership, this also reduces the chances of disappointment to you family, if you are taking your family for car buying, which some of us do to consider their color preferences and amenities choice they want in their new family car). This way you can also back create a column which can back calculate in case a one dealer gives you base price while other provides you OTD price. So you cans till compare the Base with base and OTD with OTD.

    Just my 2 cents.

Well that is personal choice, I would say, as I saw not much gain in buying Advanced package over Technology Package. And even dealer's agent concurred with my opinion.

Okay, let try to understand it rationally (others please chip in, if I am wrong somewhere). The difference between FWD and AWD is well know and hell and heaven difference in handling, specially for me (others may disagree, I don't mind that) where I live there is a large trough or gradient which is like 30% or more hill.valley, so I made up my mind that I needed SH-AWD, and I wont care to save on that $2000 difference.

Now the difference between AWD-Base and Tech is substantial and justifies spending $4000 extra on Tech for the reason you get spare tire kit which itself costs close to $1000 or even more. I think base comes with just tire repair kit which is basically a $5 tire goo and $20 compressor. But when your tire is gone big time them it wont help. That's my understanding. Also tech comes buy a $200 GPS and it will also work on your voice commands, I would partly agree that since I have $180 Garmin in other car and sometime I feel that is better than the in-car navigation in Aura MDX as by using SmartPhoneLink app from Garmin one can simply find an address sin phone and once the phone is connected (that automatically happens if you turn the Bluetooth of you phone on and by the time you are waiting to adjust your seat in your car (my other car does not have memory seats) the phone and GPS are ready. You simply send the address to Garmin and you are ready to go. Acura's navigation system does not have that capability or you would need to subscribe to Auralink to have that simple functionality

But you also get blind spot monitoring, lane monitoring and extra speaker those are helpful. I know some will argue against them.

Okay now moving on to your question: Tech vs Adv package. The difference is the 2nd row wide screen and DVD player, collision avoidance system, parking sensors, additional cameras, laser lane monitoring and an extra speaker. I think I am in favor of collision avoidance system but I can live without other features,

Even the dealer agent thinks that you don't need entertainment system since now everyone has ipads or smartphones or tablets and kids like to watch movies on them so why spend extra $8000 to get that functionality in car. Also an extra speaker might not make that much of s difference. Lastly the Adv package also has inverter with 2x 110V sockets in car, which I don't require so I don't car much. But again I did not have money to spend on these features, so it is strictly JUST my opinion and you are welcome to think differently . With that said, if I had money I would have really liked to have collision avoidance system and parking sensors in my AWD-Tech package. I think the features that selling as luxury are becoming standard in even family cars such as Honda Accord, so in coming years or maybe even months you will envy that other basic cars with have similar features. I think what we buy as tech package should have been standard package.

If it with TTL included OTD price, run for it, but I think it wont be. But I wont be surprised as, as we near year 2015 prices are going to go down. Your price is $400 below my OTD price with 6% MD tax included in my price.

Even the Acura accessories you end up buying with the dealer selling you car are over prices. I realized that when I bought from ebay form distant dealer:

    Acura or dealer sells for:
    1st and 2nd row all season mats: $160 +Shipping+taxes
    3rd row all season mat: $80 +Shipping+taxes
    Splash Guards: $150 +Shipping+taxes
    Door edge guards: $100 +Shipping+taxes
    Door protection molding : $300 +Shipping+taxes
    Wheel Locks: $125 +Shipping+taxes

While I got from other Honda dealers from Ebay
1st and 2nd row all season mats: $115 (inclusive everything)
3rd row all season mat: $59 (inclusive everything)
    Splash Guards: $105 (inclusive everything)
Door edge strip: $4 (inclusive everything)
Door protection molding : Yet to buy but it costs $150 on ebay (inclusive everything)
Wheel Locks: Wont buy, but it costs $35 on ebay (inclusive everything)

Mind it, these are not made for Honda parts that I have bought from ebay. They are real Honda parts/ accessories bought from Honda dealers in CA, NJ, IA etc, they come in original Honda and Acura apckages.

@mogambo1‌ Thanks for the advice on tech vs. advance tech. I am not that interested in the automatic braking and lane changing, but I do like the alerts that come up on the dash on the standard tech package.

I agree, we have built in headrest tvs in our current SUV and my wife (and baby) has used them 3 times in two years. After upgrading that for 3k, I told her that those tv's cost us $1000 per movie she watched, unbelieveable when you think about it. Could buy a ton of iPads for that and even get a nice LTE/4g plan per month and still cost less.

The biggest thing the regular tech package is missing for me is the remote start, we found great use for that, but I see it can be a dealer added option, so I'd consider that in negotiating the price of vehicle.

Once we get our lemon repurchase wrapped up, we'll be really getting into this. Hope everyone keeps posting prices, I'm keeping a close eye.

    thanks again

hey guys i just came back from paragon acura and they gave me a quote for the 2015 mdx awd standard with wheel locks, all weather carpet mat and trunk lid cover for $46,500 OTD price. I am located in new york queens/brooklyn area. so higher taxes but don't know is that a good price.

$46,500 OTD seems like a decent deal for NY. Now, keep in mind OTD means inclusive of everything...(taxes, TTL, destination fees, dealer fees, etc.)

    which trim is that?
In Los Angeles, the best i got are like these. Includes protection package.
MDX base model : $40,000 (4 dealers matched that price)
MDX FWD Tech: $43,500 (3 dealers matched that price)
    Plus Tax,Title and Document Fees.
My suggestion is to get One written quote, email or in-person. then you can negotiate with others to give you a better deal.
I am going ahead with these prices, since i couldnt get any lower.

Since you are looking for a AWD Tech, your best price would be close to $45,000.

I have been looking around for MDX SH-AWD with Tech package around the NYC area and the best quote I got so far is $45,500 plus TTL which amounts to a little over $50k OTD. I think I need to do some more searching.

hey starbark, all the deals in the MD area will offer the same 47K price..my suggestion is wait...prices are coming down..i got another offer with $46.5k with advance running board. If you are not in a rush - wait it out - the economy is not that great and the car prices will reflect that......

where have you tried? paragon acura in queens gave me the standard SWD for OTD 46,500, then brooklyn was willing to go lower but they needed the written paper saying paragon was offering this and paragon won't give me that.

I tried at Rallye, Park Ave(NJ) and Valley Stream thus far. I have yet to hear back from Paragon and Brooklyn.

I am in New York too. Rather than wasting time haggling with NY dealers, I am thinking of driving down to MD.

Looking to buy the AWD+Tech. Based on comments from MD folks, seems like $44K + TTL seems like a good deal?

But you are registered in ny and still end up paying ny taxes and stuff so might come out the same price as lawrence26
