BTW, I forgot to mention that when I saw the car today I did look for the bulge near the right knee area of the driver's foot well and it was definitely there. However, it did not seem to bother me at all and I don't think I would've even noticed it if I were driving the car. In fact, I don't think I would have even noticed it at all if I weren't looking for it. But let's not start a "Battle of the Bulge" please, like with the rear-end.

I thought this car had a lot of leg room both in front and in the rear. When I first sat in the driver's seat there was another customer sitting in the rear right behind me and he commented he had plenty of space even though the driver's seat was too far back for me to drive and I'm 6'1". I had to move the driver's seat up to feel comfortable. After setting the driver's seat to the way I like it, I got in the back and found plenty of legroom even for my size. The rear seat recliners worked like a charm, too!

My two cents would be to say "the baby got back?" issue with G35 has been driven into ground so far that the Chinese are sick of it! :)

Talk about a subjective subject on which absolutely nothing conclusive will ever result. Sample dialog: I like it. I don't. I'm right. No, I'm right. (Rinse, repeat endlessly!) :)

Hmm... If I'm not mistaken, our purpose here is to discuss buying and selling cars, not homes. :-)

Let me thank those of you who have gotten us back on track - let's stay there, okay?

    Hey 68bullitt,

I ordered mine in Black with Black Int. I've not seen one yet, except for the photo gallery on Infiniti.com, Please tell me it's hot looking, BTW I added the Areo kit with rear spoiler and air dams. Any comments on what it might look like with the additions.

    Thanks

From what i heard the british won't be getting the g35 before us. I think the exact time was last quarter of this year or early next year. So they will probably have to here from us. The lucky folks in Japan get the 8 speed before all of us.

    Hey Mike,

Talked with a consumer affairs rep tonight who has driven one. He said this thing has got plenty of getty-up and will throw you back in the seat. Took corners at high speeds and held road very well. Opened it up to 120 and backed off from there, ran smooth as a baby's butt (his term). They weren't on a track, but drove around the city and didn't want to get busted. I know I'm going to get into trouble with this thing. Can't wait.
  • 68bullitt68bullitt Member Posts: 177
The G35 looks VERY hot in black. Very sleek and the black accentuates the fine curves of the car. I'm not a big fan of spoilers (even though my current car came with one standard), especially on sedans so I can't really comment on what it may look like.

Congratulations on your order though. I feel the car is very well made, very luxurious and sporty, and is a terrific value. Let's hope it drives as well on the road as it does on paper. For me, I'm going to wait for the 6-speed manual and I also want to see what the coupe will look like.

If i can confirm Grubbs having a G35 in next week ill head over with the digicam and see how many shots i can get. I agree about the Red blending, i really want to see it in all colors though. At least it will be an early viewing before the Dallas and FtWorth auto shows.

I recall when the old G20 was restyled there was a wine and fingerfood tasting event with the premier of the car, Wonder what they will do to preview the G35 ??

Can you say cop magnet? But what about that red color. They should call it "ticket a day red".
I am somewhat relieved to hear someone else to confirm the "bulge". I am glad it didn't bother them.
I guess it didn't bother me much either cause I did order one. Silver/willow,lux,winter, wood,
    xenon,prem., full size spare, sunroof.

I think I also read they are making some over there. I will stand to be corrected if I can't find what I read.

I checked the nissan site for england (http://www.nissan.co.uk) and there's no mention of the new skyline. They only show the r34. And from www.4car.uk.co "it goes to the US as an Infiniti in 2002, although shipments to Europe are still TBC"
  • gandhim3gandhim3 Member Posts: 191
I think one reason they do not want to bring it while the G35 was introduced is because it is borrowed from the next Nissan Z. The marketing types want to reserve it first for the Z.

And since the Z will not come out until this Fall, I think may be they are still doing some tweaking and fine tuning to the 6-speed manual.

    Just speculation on my part.

As for the LSD debate, does the Z have one? I could not find any info on the US site. If the Z has a LSD, there is a very good chance the the G35 sedan and coupe will get it as well.

De-lurking. Have been following the G35 for the past six months (can't wait to see it at the Dallas Auto Show) and finally decided to jump into the conversation here.

First, I really dig the G35, but at the same time a few things bother me. No, not the trunk or the bulge, ;-) but the tires that Infiniti has chosen to shod the 17s with in the sport-tuned package. Has anyone actually looked into how you will replace the stock 215/55/17s when it comes time? Go to tirerack.com and there's ONE LOUSY BRIDGESTONE TOURING TIRE available in two different speed ratings. On the discounttire.com site for my area there's NOTHING availble. I *know* that the proper size tires are out there, but should I have to hunt for them? This is NOT the car to be putting touring tires on. Acura did this to my CL-S as well with the odd-size 215/50/17 Michelin MMX-M4s.

Now, I could go with a 225/45/17, but that's a difference of 17mm in sidewall height that would in turn throw the speedo off, not to mention increase that horrific 4x4 like wheel gap. WHAT is up with that? Does that not disturb anyone else as much as it does me? I'm not looking for some stupid, "slammed" look, but come on! I'd expect a more minimalist gap as found on a 330i w/sport package on a "sport sedan". I hope NISMO has a sportier spring package in the works to drop it a couple of inches.

I'm torn between the G35 and 350Z (which I've already pre-ordered) and could go either way even though they are in two completely separate segments. Plus, I want the 6MT G35 and no one can confirm if or when it would be available. I am smitten with the G35's looks and potential, but if Infiniti doesn't deliver the goods, I'll have to stick with the Z order.

    Thoughts?

A 235/45/17 should have nearly the same diameter.
The 215 seems like way too skinny a tire. The Lincoln LS has a 235/50/17, which is easily upgradeable to a 245/45/17. But the LS also has a 7.5 inch wide wheel. It sounds like the G35 has a narrower 7 inch wide wheel. This car is begging for a wheel upgrade, my friends. Might as well go 18 x 8 and then 245/45/18 minimum. 215 is way too narrow for this size of a performance car.

For those of you that have already ordered your G35s. Can anyone confirm if you, in fact, can order the Sports Suspension Package only WITHOUT the Aero Package nor the Winter Package? According to both the infiniti.com website and the pre-order form from the full-line brochure, you must select either the Aero Pkg. or the Winter Pkg. if you want the Leather model with Sports Pkg. I don't want either the Aero or Winter Pkgs., I just want the Sports Pkg. Anyone know if this is possible?

Gee, and I thought the only red car I liked was a Cadillac seville in Crimson pearl. The G35 looks GOOD in red.

I like blue but that blue is TOO blue...too dark...maybe its the lighting...I bet green will be nice...
  • anoonananoonan Member Posts: 29
I ordered the green one (Emerald Mist)...hmmm...anyone have a picture of that one?? :-) The swatch looks like it's a nice deep green but until you see it on the car I guess you never know...

Nissan has a bad habit of specifying odd tire sizes with their cars. They've done it with the Maxima and the Altima and now the G35. I wonder why they can't use more common tire sizes.
  • dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
Thanks for the reply. Now I really can't wait and Mike, your right, I bet this thing will be a magnet for Johnny Law, however, I have something going on my side. Was a deputy here for many years and know the right people to help me out, at least I hope.

That trip I told you about, TCSO did a great job of training us at high speed driving. When looking at the Maxima GLE, got a friend and went out to the boonies, clocked me on laser radar, had it to floor and was clocked at 148. With the extra HP the G35 may top out over that.

I have heard many comments regarding various aspects of the car, but how is the quality of the interior? To me at least, the interior looks cheap with all of the titanium colored plastic bits. I have yet to see a G35 in person but will soon at the Chicago auto show in a couple of weeks. Saw one 2 years ago at the same show when the car was a concept. On the CTS board this has been the running topic. Hopefully it is not mentioned because there is no trouble with the quality.

For those of you waiting for the six-speed, do you find it possible that you may be dissappointed? I have driven many Nissans (worked in the parts dept at a Nissan dealer for 4 years) and found that the sticks in many of them are very notchy and rubbery with long throws. Even the 300Z's shift action was average. Maybe the auto will be a better match for this car. You never know.

Esp. if you are a local here in CA. Maybe you are the rare one that isn't part. Congratulations! I live in a town where the cops switch off between being cops and firemen, maybe that's where the attitude comes from. Oh Christ don't mean to offend any firemen now, back to the G.
  • magnetophonemagnetophone Member Posts: 605
bobbyknight, I read in a review of the 350Z that the six-speed is fairly good, and they mentioned that it was an improvement on Nissan manuals of yore.

I think it's the same six-speed as will be in the G35, so if a British press is going to give a favorable response to a stick shift you know it has to be good.
  • anoonananoonan Member Posts: 29
bobbyknight, heard from a salesman who went to Detroit auto show. He said the G35 is a beautiful car but thought the interior was not too luxurious at all...likened it to the Lexus IS300. Probably biased, he was an Audi salesman, FWIW.

    Hey dl7265 and dpepper:

I just spoke with Danny at Grubbs and he confirmed that the red G35 WILL be at their dealership on Tues. 1/29 and Wed. 1/30. I also spoke with the guy that took the pics of the red one posted by maybeg35. He confirmed that it was at the Detroit Show. It is a brighter red than previous Infiniti reds and also said that it was metallic. I am 99% sure that I will change my order to red, but am going to wait until I see it next Tuesday. Unfortunately, no one can drive it. Danny did say that he expects their initial shipment to arrive at the end of February. If I change my order to red/willow, it will not arrive until April.
  • lsclsc Member Posts: 210
I personally like both the Red and the Black the same. They were my 2 favorite colors growing up and now they are back!

I agree with the 6-speed. Nissan needs to borrow Honda's manuals, although it probably won't be able to handle Nissan's torque. Most of Honda cars have low torque ratings.

The car looks better and better..especially since we are getting used to the design more.

I remember seeing this girl for the first time and thought she was not attractive at all. But after a while, she didn't look half bad. Same thing. Now she looks pretty good!
  • lsclsc Member Posts: 210
The only thing that bothers me about the interior is the fact that they didn't change the controls in the center console to left hand drive. The volume knob, etc. is still on the right side of the console.

I was going through some old news item about the R35 GT-R on the below site. The image looks nothing like the GT-R concept shown at the Tokyo Motor Show. It looks more like the sketch on the Infiniti website of the G35 coupe.

Another de-lurker here. This is the best place on the web to learn about the G35. I love this car. Beautiful looks, great statistics. I can't wait to drive it. Just pre-ordered silver/willow/premium/wood. I knew much more than the dealer.

Someone asked earlier about wood trim and where it will be. Go to www.infiniti.com.....Discover.....Future Models....G35......Inspiring (in the lower left hand corner).... Safety. There's a good shot of the interior with willow/wood.

Hey maybeg35, you're awesome! Where did you get that pic of the blue G35? It looks great, although I agree that I wouldn't mind it if it was a little lighter shade of blue, like the Topaz Blue or Avus Blue on the BMW 3-series. I also like that blue on the IS300.
  • 68bullitt68bullitt Member Posts: 177
Anyone happen to know the name of the color of that grayish silver that was available on the I-30s and G-20s a couple of years back. It was a darker shade of silver than the Brilliant Silver that's on the I-35 and G35 now. I think the G35 would look absolutely awesome in that grayish silver!
  • hvan3hvan3 Member Posts: 630
Yellow/manual/leather/aero/sunroof. That's all I need. I'm not sure if Infiniti will allow me to have aero package without the sports package. :(
I don't want sports package because I want to customize my own wheels/suspensions.

I hope they do offer a banana yellow coupe with dark tints. I would be the coolest dude on the block!!
  • 68bullitt68bullitt Member Posts: 177
I just found this link on the web to some great (and very sharp) photos of a silver G35 with the cool 5-spoke wheels. Don't know if it has the Sports Pkg. since it doesn't have the titanium center console. Looks like they were taken at the Utah Auto Show. It claims a top speed of 142mph!! Woo-hoo!! Enjoy!!!

  • norcalmike2norcalmike2 Member Posts: 133
The picture of the dark blue G35 has a different style of 6 spoke wheels than I have seen before. The 5 spoke wheels on the car at the Utah Car Show are drop dead gorgeous. What do you folks think? The six spoke are the 16" alloys and the 5 spoke are the sports package wheels?
  • dfd3dfd3 Member Posts: 57
Those look like the same wheels on the Infinitinews.com website. They are gorgeous! The 142 mph max speed is from Infiniti's website. Now, tell us what 0-60 times are!
  • dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
I was told the Maxima would start to sputter around 140, but I pushed another 8 passed it without any hesitation.

The G35 is a 260hp over the 255hp, bet I get to 150 or better. Once I get it, I'll get with my friends and top it out and you know.
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
dpepper... Since their engines are very, very similar in regard to power curve and power output, the more important issues are co-efficient of drag, weight, and gearing. First and third likely most important factors in this case. cd for Sport and non-Sport models can be important if bigger, wider tires used on former. For Maxima, you can have different top speeds for 4-speed automatic and 6-speed manual versions. G35 will initially use a different 5-speed automatic. What is its individual gearing and final drive ratio? Forget if any of these are or will be electronically speed limited due to tire and other factors.

Guessing you might also be seeing lots of speedo error at the speeds you mention.
  • dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
I was clocked by laser radar. Not much room for error there. I was informed there there is a chip that does limit the max performace of the US model. I've made inquiries about obtaining the European chip. No limitations. However, Infiniti does not offer that as an option.

I am a little dissapointed with the way that Infiniti is going to market this car (I am sure that this has been bought up before, but I don't have time to read 846 posts!). For me, I would love to be able to get a G35 with willow cloth seats, sunroof and xenons (like my 02 Maxima SE), but to to this, the MSRP is going to be around $32K! Very upsetting to me.

I guess I could buy the base model, add a roof and xenons and then put 17"s on it. Then it would probably be around $29K, but I have heard bad things about aftermarket sunroofs.

Of course, I will wait for awhile until the price is more reasonable (I figure they will be getting MSRP at first).

I can't wait to drive one, though! The thought of a RWD sedan with the same VQ engine as my Maxima (but 260hp & 260 torque) and Multilink all around gives me a smile from ear to ear! :)

I received a letter from Mark C. McNabb who is the Vice President and General Manager of the Infiniti Division in Gardena California today. He thanked me for my pre-launch order and for the "decision that places me among the select group of premium performance car owners." He went on to explain that the G35 exemplifies Infiniti's commitment to automotive innovation, exhilarating performance, and thoughtful interpretation of luxury for the modern age. I know the letter was cookie cutter language from the computer but it does have his original signature on it. Nice touch Infiniti.

I currently own a 95 BMW 325is...as we all know things go wrong with bmw's and the costs are high..believe me..new tranny 2700.00, water pump, thermostat, radiator..1200.00..all after warranty up...30k interval service $600.00...so all you infiniti owners..do your cars hold up..what are the costs for interval services for 30k and 60k...
i want the bmw performance without the high costs of repairs and service...the g looks like it for me..

We got a ride along a couple days ago in a proto G35. The car came with the sports package, and the overall impression is very positive. There are a couple interesting points about the car. The engine and the exhaust sound like a BMW, and the engine reved very smoothly. The car exhibited very little body lean, much better than the Acura TL that my friend drives. The braking power is way better than the TL also with virtually no dip. Acceleration is good, but I am slightly disappointed compared to the Subaru WRX. The transmission transition was a tad slow, but it might be because the G35 is a prototype.

With the sport suspension, the ride on the freeway was harsher than we expected, and firmer than the IS300. The rear reclining seats were the bomb!!! It felt VERY comfortable and plenty of rear leg rooms for a 5'10" guy even with the front seats all the way back. The only drawback to the rear seat is the middle seat. It had virtually no cushion at all thus not very comfortable. I would say the car really only rides 4, not 5 for the long distance travel. The sound system was pretty good, but no better than the Lexus but better than the Acura. The Ti trim is pretty nice, but it could be easily scratched. Infiniti promised that it will be much better in production.

We conflicted on the navigation. Without the touch screen, it is a hassle to use the navigation. However, if you like to see your MPG and trip computer, you have to get the navigation system. 3D map is pretty cool too.

The trunk well is deep(height), but not deep enough into the car (behind the rear seats). It does have plenty of room though. People should be able to stack theh luggages in the trunk. The sales person stated that the license plate is on the bumper instead of the trunk is because the rattle of the plate when closing the trunk. In reality, we believe that in order to accomodate different trunk release button, Infiniti made it modular to exchange.

To echo another post, the sales person poo-poo the navigation kit. Appearantly they didn't place as many navigation order per customer demand, so they are trying to convince the buyers not to get it.

Oh yeah, I did put down $500 deposite for the 'right to refusal'.

    Happy weekend!

How would you rate the G35 in the road noise and wind noise department? Any squeaks and rattles?
  • dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
Road and wind noise is the main reason I rejected the Maxima GLE, the I35 I have now is very quiet and has a very smooth ride.
  • corkfishcorkfish Member Posts: 537
Was it modified? Because they're limited to 131. I drove an automatic with the 227 horsepower and an automatic transmission and it was slower than my Sentra. Even the new six speed Max didn't feel as quick as the New Altima. It did have a great ride and feel to it though.

Um, pardon me, folks, for dropping the cold, hard facts of reality here -- but we are deviating way too far from the Membership Agreement for me to remain in my "lurk" mode.

Firstly, some folks here need to remember that due to copyright issues, we cannot use the "img src" tags to display pictures that we do not own - links to those pictures are fine, but the img src tags - unless you own the picture - should not be used. Some posts from folks who have forgotten that have necessarily been removed.

Secondly, others here need to remember that profanities - implied or outright - are forbidden by that same Membership Agreement. Hence, a couple of other posts have been removed.

    Thanks for understanding.

At only 3336 lbs, a slipery CD of .26 and 260 lb-ft torque @ 4800 rpm if the drive train is efficient at all it should at least equal or surpass a 330i performance! nice .
