You have a good point. The new G really is invisible right now, isn't it.
  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
I wonder that there may still be lots of inventory of the 2006 models at dealers. Infiniti wants/needs to see the inventory level lower before making splashes on the new G. Purely speculation, of course.

After reading many of the postings on this sight and gaining lots of great information I'd like to throw a couple questions out there.

I'm considering a 2006 G35 sedan with the Diamond Graphite and going with the Graphite interior. I'm concerned about the wear and appearance over time of the lighter leather?

    I know Infiniti's warranty is pretty good, 4yr/60K and 6yr/70K. How's everyone's reliability been with the G35?

I have a 2002 Maxima and love the power and engine has been great! Looking for rear wheel drive in next car.

Also, I've read about lots of paint problems with some certain colors in the coupes. Anyone have severe paint problems on the sedans? Can a clear coated bra be put on at the dealership and has anyone done this?

I've read about rattles from some postings, how many and how noticeable?

Really appreciate all input and opinions on any of my questions. Hope all are having a great weekend.

I have an 05 Diamond graphite X. LOVE the car. I have heard of people with the color red having chipping problems. At 20K our paint looks like new. We had a guy come put a clear bra on the hood after we brought the car home.

The car is still very tight with the occasional rattle, but not enough or often enough to make me unhappy.

We see between 19-24mpg with the car.

I really appreciate the info!! Thanks for the input. Looks like I've settled on the G35 in Graphite. Truly a great value for the price. Enjoy your G35X!

I've seen the clear bra on the Lexus IS and it looks pretty seamless. I'm guessing yours is basically the same on the G35?

Thanks for the gas mileage info.

For the sport model tested by Edmunds, they commented that the suspension tuning is too stiff. For the non sport suspension / AWD models, does anyone have any idea of whether the stiffness is tamed, and how well it rides vis a vis the handling?

I was just looking at the specifications for the 2007 G35 on the Nissan News website and I noticed the 6 CD in dash changer becomes a single CD in dash with a 9.5 GB music hard drive & a trunk 6 CD changer when the Nav is selected. I'm kinda bummed about this because I use my 6 CD changer on random in my Pathfinder all the time and the thought of having to stop & get into the trunk to load it doesn't sound very cool.

The upper glove box in my G35 sedan has the outer rubber/plastic surface delaminating from the actual glove box structure. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

i am currently looking into buying a 2006 g35x in virginia. i have been told by sales person that they will sell for invoice which is approximately $32,600. does this sound right? i tried to get this dealership to payoff the loan on my 2003 325i but they only offered me $15,500. i really would like to get one of these before end of year but feel my time is running out. i appreciate all responses. thanks

I'm in the market for a slightly used 06 or 05 G sedan but notice that prices range considerably not necessarily linked to mileage. Are there different (and 'preferred') pkgs that I should be looking for? Thanks!

I've had this wheel wobble sound on the front end of my 2004 6MT, that I can hear from 40 mph on, and in my ears, very audible at 60+.

I was initially told it was the tires, had them rotated and balanced, no change. Incidentally, I first really noticed it after my first rotation at 8000.

I waited it out, changing tire pressures, having tires rebalanced at an outside tire shop (2 different ones), and at 15K, another tire rotation, but sound still there.

At 22k, I had to bring the car in for early brake wear, suspension noise at slow speeds and bumps. Since there, I had them check the noise again, and though they addressed everything else (new front brakes and rotors, new pads rear, changed a compression rod), the wobble / thumping / vibration sound is still there. They checked the tires at my request before and now, but since they couldnt reproduce the sound, or identify it, they stop there.

I have the car, and am planning to take a ride with a tech, but would like to be more informed. Are there other areas that could be the culprit? Any other parts of the car, ie shocks, struts? I also read of loose bolts, areas that need to be rewelded?

I definitely feel a bit like drawing on straws because I cant seem to communicate this issue. I am concerned that this might be an indication of something big later, or worse, a safety issue now.

Can anyone shed some light? Ideas on what its cause? Alignment? Experiencing similar things? Any specific words I should use to communicate better? Anything? Thanks for any advice.

Could it be a slightly bent or out of round rim? I had that. The dealer had a guy to fix it, they rebalanced and it's now perfect.
I might also be a defective tire. It's not unheard of to have a tire with belts that have moved.
  • njjulianonjjuliano Member Posts: 83
Bent rim? I hope not. I'm sure that the rims are a bit pricey. I will, however, include that on the check list that I'm going to mention to the dealer.

I also have had the tires checked for belt shift, and he said no.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Also, I've read some promising threads (on another forum) about wheel bearings prematurely malfunctioning. The description of the problems definitely mimic mine. A bright light of this very dark, and long tunnel.

Hey all, bringing in my 04 G35 Sedan next week due to squeaky brakes and the 30K service. I've read a lot about both on this site, but do have one question. Is there any document I should bring in to the dealer before they service the breaks so they don't try and charge me for it? Or is that not necessary? Just trying to think ahead.

    Thanks in advance...
  • njjulianonjjuliano Member Posts: 83
The brake warranty was extended to 3/36 for the 03-04 models. I have the 6MT 04, and recently had fronts replaced, both rotors and pads. Rears were also replaced, with the rotors turned.

I am interested to hear comments about how the G35 (non-X) goes in the snow. I live outside of Boston where some winter days resemble the north pole. My current car is front wheel drive. Can I get through tough winters with just rear wheel drive?
  • raizelgsraizelgs Member Posts: 84
It goes fine - but you must buy a set of winter tires. The summer performance tires are hopeless in heavy snow. I bought Dunlop MP3's, other poster have talked about the Blizzaks.

Four tires are mandatory. You need the fronts for steering and braking. If you have the MT or the auto with sport-handling, you will have a limited slip differential, which also helps.

(from Detroit area) plenty snow this winter.

    All,

Im planning on buying a 2004 G35 4dr sedan, which has around 45K miles on it. Does this model have any known issues? Also the dealer says this is "Pre"certified for a 10yr/100K warranty. What is the price that i should be paying for this coverage - since this is a used car?

    Thanks.
  • lwechslerlwechsler Member Posts: 15
Some of the responses you got so far are right.
    It is the wheel bearing.
    How do I know?!
Bought new sets of tires three years ago for my old Previa.
After a short time I heard and felt exactly wht you described.
I switched the tires to the back and the noise dissapeared from the front but slowly reappeared from the back.
However because when you drive it everyday, one gets used to it, it took a friend of mine that noticed it and sent me to the repair shop.
After three times being in the shop without finding anything, they decided with my approval to remove the back axle. once out, if you turn it by hand slowly, you can find the spot and location of the bad bearing.
So it was the bad tire that ruined the bearing and cost about 800 to fix.

I have noticed that over the past few months that cabin noise which is coming from rear has increased. Any ideas????
  • caymencaymen Member Posts: 1
yes i have the same thing with the suspension the tech road with me and said it was the suspension and there was nothing he can do. All of the 2006 sound like that I told him that they have to fix it he said no, so i'm going to continue to take it in. I would love to know what the tech told you...........
  • lwechslerlwechsler Member Posts: 15
    This is somewhat serious.
Had the same on a 97 Previa.
It was a bad tire that was probably a factory reject and
made noise unril it ruined one of the Ball Bearings.
It is very difficult to find.
Need to remove the wheel and slowly turn the affected wheel assembly and if you feel any restriction at any point thats the damaged wheel bearings.
If the dealer wont replace it, do it at another shop and save aggravations later.
You may get your money back once you complain to the headquarters.

I'm hoping for a little insight. after starting the car, at around 10 mph, there is this grinding noise. when i asked about this, the dealership told me it was normal, that it was the ABS setting itself. does this sound right to anyone?? :(
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
That sounds right. My 2005 g35x does this quite loudly as well. The sound comes from the front of the vehicle? If so, no worries, that is the ABS test. :)
  • oman9oman9 Member Posts: 97
Yes, it's normal....between 5 and 10 MPH, very audible, very normal. ABS doing it's self check...
  • mstrieumstrieu Member Posts: 3
    ;) thanks for the reassurance!

 i never did pay attention when i should've ... and i'm trying to be a better car owner ... so a few questions if you don't mind ...

    1. when should the oil be changed?
    2. synthetic blend or full synthetic?
    3. what brand should i get for the in cabin air filter? is it easy to replace or should i just take it to the dealership?
    4. is rattling in the windows a problem for any one else?
    5. my right driver's air vent doesn't rotate to the extent the others do ... i'm afraid to put pressure on it to try to fix it ... any suggestions?
    6. lastly ... i guess it's the vents ... but near the floorboards .. while i'm driving ... it gets warm ... which is fine normally ... but recently it got ridiculous hot .. and i don't know what it is ... because nothing's on ... temperature wise .. except i think ... the circulation button light is on ... HELP!!! it's driving me nuts

Looking to buy a 2003 G35 coupe from a local Infinity new car dealer. The car has 26k miles and the dealer is looking for $22,500 for it. It looks perfect. Is this a good deal and what are the things I need to look into regarding this specific years make and model? Any feedback is appreciated...

I am new to the infiniti brand (previous cars have been acuras and Audis) so prior to the purchase, i am curious if anyone can speak to any problems (mechanical etc) that i should keep in mind when the car goes to inspection

    Thanks for any info

I have been offered a 2006 G35X fully loaded (nav system, satelital radio, 4wheel drive, alloy rhines etc) with 23000 milesfor 28995. It is also certified.

I am wondering whether this is a reasonable deal. ....

KBB values it around $28k RETAIL price. You can get a brand new 2008 with the 306HP and upgraded everything for $37,500 with new car warranty too.
  • happycamryhappycamry Member Posts: 48
The redesign happened with the 2007 model year with a much nice interior and a bit more refined ride, plus all sorts of cool tech goodies. So, I'd suggest a used 2007 if you like the design as much as I do.

That's still 9,000 more dollars to cough up.

I'm considering 2006 G35 coupe (blk) with 15,077 miles. Auto. sun roof with everything else being the standard.

The dealer asking price is $25,888. Edmunds retail is 26,617. Is the dealers price an acceptable no-haggle price?

Any suggestions on the best performing tires for a 2005 G35 Sedan? I have Bridgestones as original, always liked Michelins...any opinions/experience to share?
  • beanctrbeanctr Member Posts: 99
I purchased Yokohama YK520 about six months ago for my G35 sedan. The ride, dry weather traction, and quietness are all good in my opinion. The wet weather traction doesn't appear to be as good as the original Bridgestones. Overall a decent tire.
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
I had a set of General Exclaims. They were awesome. I'm now running Pirelli P-Zero Nero's. They work well but they are noisy.
  • ocg35manocg35man Member Posts: 52
I also have 05 G35 Sedan. My Original tires were Goodyear RS-A
P215/55VR17, which lasted 42000 miles. That's not bad for those
    tires, I think.

I replaced them with Yokohama YK520, which is similar to Avid V4s,
same brand. I paid $ 141 each. This tire is considered as High performance All Season tires. The tread warranty is 60000 miles, which is very good and I'll be happy if they will last at least 50000 miles.

I've had these for about 1200 miles now. Here's my rating.
    Dry Traction- B
    Wet Traction- B+
    Quietness-A
    Ride Comfort-A

If Ultra-High performance is what you are looking for, then you may
consider others, but otherwise it seems to fit my needs in terms of
    performance and value.

    good luck :)

I just purchased a 2005 G35x with 20500 miles for $23500. Mine is not certified. For certified it seems in the ball park, maybe 1K too high.

05G35Sedan6mt 50,000mi and was just told the clutch needs replacing. I've had manuals since 73 and the only one I've ever had to do a clutch on was a 72/240Z (funny another Nissan product). There seems to be a bit of issue on early wear but I'd be interested in other mi for replacement? I know 07 had a problem with slave cylinder

with 39,000 miles. Dealer asking price is $22K. New to Infiniti. Currently disgruntled Saab owner. I have reading briefly about brake issues on older Infinitis. Is that a problem with this version? Any other thoughts/recommendations?
  • lwechslerlwechsler Member Posts: 15
The breaks were always a problem, but once fixed its going away.
If its a Manual Transmission, it has a rough shift between 1st to 2nd in the first 16,000 mile or so. After that its ok.
Except for the slightly high price, everything else should be OK.

  • ocg35manocg35man Member Posts: 52
    Do you need AWD version?
If not, there will be more selections available. 2003/2004 G35 had some issues
with premature brake pad wear. 2005 and after brake issue was taken care of.
However, 2005 G35 AWD may not have the same brakes as None-AWD models.
Mine is 2005 G35 sedan(not AWD) and so far brakes lasted more than my expectations. My front brake pads are still good at 47k miles!

I'd go with 2005 or 2006 G35. At 39k miles, if it has original pads, they are probably
close to being replaced. Also, original factory warranty is 4 yr 60k miles. It would
be a good idea to find out original sold date to see how much more warranty is
    still left on a vehicle.

Overall Infiniti should be much more reliable than Saab. Maintenance should be
cheaper too. Infiniti shares many parts with Nissan and some Nissan dealers
will even do regular maintenance service on Infiniti cars at lower prices.

    Good Luck

I am also looking at a G35 in FL and am hoping for a good deal. Many of the great deals seem to be either previous rental vehicles or Buy Backs from the Dealer due to service or Lemon Law issues. Be careful and do your due diligence. If it is a single owner vehicle it seems to be in the right price-range.

Have some questions about the 2005 G35x. Any problems? Major problems? I have a 06 Jetta and its been in the shop for 18 days in the past month and not a single thing under warrenty so this is why i am looking at a used 2005 G35x with 28k and certified. But I have been reading about a brake problem and some others. What are the typical repairs/costs that owners are dealing with. And please only people who own a 2005 to 2006-07.

hello folks, im looking at a 2006 g35 6mt with 25100 mi certified for 18995... is this a good deal?? i'm thinking yes, but just wanted to make sure.... what makes the deal harder is that i'd like to trade in my 2008 suzuki sx4, and the dealer says im about 4000 upside down... i knew that... but still its a tough pill to swallow. but i really did like the g35 a lot. any advice?
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
Mine is a 2005 G35X bought new. I have not had any brake issues though I had to replace pads at 40K miles, not too bad in my opinion. So when it was time for pad replacement I also replaced the rotors. Went aftermarket for both and I just hit 79K miles. So far pads and rotors look good. I think this is a wonderful automobile. The perfect combination of size, sportiness, utility and FUN!

    Hi,
I think that's a good deal. I just bought a 2006 g35 sedan (auto) for 19750 w/ 15K miles. No premium package. I tried to get it for lower, but in the end, we compromised on that price and I really wanted it.

For your suzuki, could you sell it for more at Carmax or something?

    good luck,
