Could someone please explain the reasoning for having F1 style steering wheel paddles AND a "manumatic" shifter on the console/tunnel. Doesn't the former make the latter unnecessary, even useless?
• ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I prefer the steering wheel buttons, but some people prefer to use the shifter, so I guess they're just offering both.

1. Gives the driver an option. I really like how the paddles are leather wrapped, nice touch.

2. They don't have to have another gearshift column so it saves Infiniti money. It may be unnecessary and even useless but it saves money.

From what i remember hearing about the CVT in the skyline is you can either use it like a "true" CVT or you can use the paddles to shift between the 8 preset speeds like a manual. There's a big discussion about this on freshalloy.

Do not be alarmed by the prices - they are in Canadian $s

I really like the looks of the G35. I have held off purchasing a new BMW 330i so I can test drive this beauty. I wasn't too sure about the rear end of the G35 at first but it grew on me to the point that I really like it.

I will test drive it to see if it comes close to performing like the BMW 330i Steptronic. If it does not come somewhat close, back to BMW... If it does perform very well, I will give Infiniti one year to come out with a manual tranny and then purchase. If no manual tranny in one year, back to BMW...

BTW - Does anyone know if the rear seats will fold down? I know they offer a pass through center armrest and reclining rear seats but would really like to see the fold down rear seats like the ones in the I35 and Maxima's...

Has anyone else heard the $26,200 figure?

I was skimming through the magazines at the grocery store this evening. Seems that Motor Trend has adorned the G35 with McPhearson strut front suspension. I'll bet they could have got that correct if they looked at their press kits just a little bit closer. Also, I talked to my dealer today. He says the first allotment have not hit port yet then he asked me if I have received my gift from Infiniti yet. They would not share with me what the gift is. You know, I just might get that Infiniti key chain that I have been longing for after all ;-)

The base is $26,269.00 to be exact,The problem is you choose one of 5 different trim models
350z
enthusiast
touring
performance
track at $34,079.00
guess this is the new Nissan trend they pick the options and you pick the trim,

id rather build my own options thank you very much , o well...

on the proto model, rear seats do not fold down. our local dealer said he doesn't expect that to change in the production version. may be a trade-off to get the recline feature?
• carnaughtcarnaught Member Posts: 3,582
Saw this new model on display, just for the day, at the dealership. In my opinion, the fit and finish were great. The instrumentation and egonomics were super. The headroom and backseat and trunk were admirable. I feel that unless the dealers get smug or cocky about it in terms of dealing as they did with the new Q45, that they've got a potential class leader.

advertised a date. Prestige Motors of Englewood, N.J. has advertised "Guest Drive starting March 15!"

Edmund's lists the G35's trunk capacity as 5 cu. ft. Can anyone who has seen the car comment on this? If this is true then I will have to cross the G35 off my list which will be a shame since it was at the top.
• maybeg35maybeg35 Member Posts: 186
I saw it in person and the size is impressive. It has a locking pass through.

• magnetophonemagnetophone Member Posts: 605
That's got to be a typo. 5 cubic feet is little larger than a freezer inside a refrigerator. That's like Miata size. It's probably 15 cu feet.

Got a call late Friday that G35 is at Infiniti in Austin, TX Monday and Tuesday till just after lunch for anyone interested in seeing it.

Does anyone know when the G35 will be in Atlanta?
• maybeg35maybeg35 Member Posts: 186
The fact that it offers a 20 gal gas tank. Check the competition in this class and I believe the only other car to offer that large a tank is an S60. The others are 15-16-17 gal. tops.

Recv'd an invite to test drive the ProtoType G35 on Feb 25th at Infiniti of Lisle (western suburb of Chicago). They are actually scheduling times, so hopefully I can get a spot.

Assuming I get a scheduled time to test drive the G35, if anyone needs pictures, please drop me an e-mail on the specifics and I will try my best to get the pics. njbaran@worldnet.att.net

One last question, most of the pictures that I have seen are still showing the center console that looks setup for the Steering Wheel on the right (Sport Shifter, Radio/Nav/Heater Controls, etc). Has anyone confirmed that the Production Types will switch the controls to the left side setup?
• njbaran99njbaran99 Member Posts: 69
Has anyone attempted to trade their recent 2002 I35 for the 2003 G35 Trade. I purchased my I35 about 3 months back and while I love the car, the test drive of the G35 may change my mind.

I was just wondering how much they are dealing on the G35, if at all, with Infiniti trades?

My I35 is loaded with everyone, except Chrome Wheels, and if I were to get the G35, I would likely load it up as well, that is, the $35,500+ MSRP equipment.
• keithatkeithat Member Posts: 15
the trunk is specified (by infiniti) at 14.5 cubic feet
• keyrowkeyrow Member Posts: 214
for keeping my dream alive! I couldn't imagine any sedan manufacturer putting in a 5 cu ft trunk, that would kill the car immediately. The 14.5/15 figure sounds, and looks (thanks for the pic), much better.

Well, once again it appears that Nissan/Infiniti is selling a car for much less north of the boarder. Initial articles (www.canadiandriver.com) have Infiniti selling the G35 in Canada for a MSRP of about CA$41,500 (about US$26,100) with the Premium Package. This model appears (a full list of options was not available) to be the same as the G35 Luxury Leather model with Premium Package (with Winter Pakage, Power Sunroof, Xenon headlights and Wood Trim) in the U.S. which has an initial MSRP of US$33,580 or about US$7,500 more then in Canada. Those are big bucks. The Canadian version has different packages available then the US version but will come standard with leather, 8-way power drivers seat and Bose stereo for a base price of CA$38,900 or about US$24,500. The premium package adds CA$2,600 (US$1,650) and includes power sunroof, drivers memory seat with driver entry assist, a 4-way power passenger's seat, dual zone air conditioning, rear a/c vents, one touch windows all around, wood trim and reclining real seats.

Browsing last night just to look around. Checked out Austin Infiniti and what they have in inventory. They have a super sale on the I35 right now. You can pickup an I35 for less than the Maxima GLE.

I'm afraid, unless you have a great relationship with you dealer, you may take a loss on the I35.

Also, has anyone noticed, they have lowered the MSRP on the G35 from January.

Going to see in an hour. Unfortunately, they will not have a G to test drive before the I35 sale goes off. Would like to put these two, comfort wise, to the test. I've really enjoyed driving the 02 I35 the past month or so. Very smooth and quiet with a relaxing ride.
• ceciltcecilt Member Posts: 45
That is a huge difference. What about the Sport package. For that kind of difference I will go to Canada without a second thought if I like the G35 when it debuts.
• crikeycrikey Member Posts: 1,041
then it would be wise to cross the border and buy the G35 there. Warranty on Canadian Infiniti/Nissan vehicles are transferrable to the U.S. I might take this route if I get serious with purchasing a G35. I'll bring it down to FL like my Acura 1.6EL (only one in Orlando).
• 68bullitt68bullitt Member Posts: 177
Where did you see that they lowered the MSRP since January? If that's the case, what did they lower it to? I checked the Infiniti web site and didn't notice any change. Thanks.
• magnetophonemagnetophone Member Posts: 605
dpepper, went to Austin Infiniti and didn't see the G35. You know, they look very similar to the new Q45 from afar, maybe I made a mistake.
• gandhim3gandhim3 Member Posts: 191
Southwest Infiniti in Houston is advertising the G35 for (barely) below $30K.

<http://www.southwestinfiniti.com/f_specials.cgi?ix=510&ad_id=366173>

I have not called them - since I am waiting for the manual version, and I am in no hurry to make my purchase for at least another year. Do not want a pesky salesperson bugging this early in the game.

• dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
68built.

I misplaced my Jan configuration and went back to the Infiniti site to reconfig for my purposes. The same configuration came out about 2K less than the initial config.

Confirmed with sales rep today that MSRP did in fact go down, when I saw the G35, Red with sport and aero package. Have a couple of photos with the spoiler. Will post when I have time.

magnetophone, they have it inside on the showroom floor.

Now, having driven a 02 I35 for the past month and being classified as a short full figured fella, I do have some observations on the G.

First, shoulder room compared to the I35 is tight for me. Reminded me of my 88 Mustang GT, cockpit like, didn't dislike, but I35 more comfortable

2nd, "Mike" the bulge is noticeable. Had to kinda cock my foot sideways for accelerator. Others didn’t notice it until I pointed it out and several folks re-entered and found it noticeable.

3rd, Liked the overall appearance, especially seeing one with a spoiler, like the one I have on order.

4th, Interior was willow, no nav, or bose and steering wheel controls non-functional. Did like the steering wheel feel and the movement of the steering wheel in conjunction with the display panel was cool.

Did you know there is a storage space inside the rear arm rest? Entry located on the pass. side.

They would not let us crank it or drive it, however I did get to play with the shifter and was shown how it works and where what gear is displayed on panel.

gandhim3 - Gurbbs Infiniti has their G35's priced and on the web. www.grubbsinifiniti.com

Overall, I want to test drive one before I slam 35-37K down and do a real comparison. Most definitely the G35 is for the sport enthusiast, plus add-on’s out there already.

Was told an aftermarket chip will push HP close to 300. Don't know if this is true or not and the guy I was speaking with could not remember the web address.

Anyway, I guess I’ll just wait to see. My unit is in their first allotment and I met people there that have May and June delivery dates. So I guess I was lucky to place the order when I did. We’ll see around mid March.
• gandhim3gandhim3 Member Posts: 191
Actually, the correct site is

I just checked their site, and cannot access the pricing info on the G35. Where do you look?

And please do post the pics you may have.
• maybeg35maybeg35 Member Posts: 186
That storage space you saw is where the FirstAid kit will be (I was told). Glad you got to see the car.
Thanks for confirming the "bulge" and possibly dispelling the conspiracy theory that I was a Lexus spy just looking for something to pick at, Hah.

just tryed their site and the new vehicle inventory search engine is down. I seached last night and they had the G35 along with pricing posted.

I'll try later to see if they are back up
• dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
You could feel it, saw all body types get in and out, both male and female and they noticed it also. Lexus spy, you devil you.
• dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
Their site is back up. Go to new inventory search. I selected all and got 164 hits. The G35's are on the 2nd page. Description w/ pricing.
• dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
Mike,

Have not idea on how to post photo. I emailed you a couple of the rear aero w and w/o brake lights on. Please post when you get a minute.

thanks,

Had a friend reply with a million dollar donation to get them here, however I had to give up the one on the right. Still think it's a great investment!!!!!!

I love the look of the brake lights. I just think the back-up lights make the rear end look goofy. If they moved them away from the trunk and on to the side where the rest of the lights are, it would look great.

I submitted a request for literature a few weeks ago with Infiniti.com and finally got a reply over the weekend. It was just a letter saying thanks for your interest. The disappointing part was they said the G35 will only have 255 hp, not the 260 that's on the Infiniti website. I guess this means it'll be exactly the same as the Maxima and I35 engine. I'm hopeful Infiniti will add the bigger Z engine to the manual and/or coupe. At the very least, they need a LSD for the manual.

It's another case of missing ponies!! Just like the Q45...false advertising once again.
• njbaran99njbaran99 Member Posts: 69
dpepper

Are I35 going for that cheap. What is the option package, stripped down to Sunroof/Sunshade Only and 4 splash guards (Invoices at $27865).

A fully loaded I35 compared to the Maxima GLE would invoice $2K more than the similiarly equipped Maxima GLE. I saw Maxima GLE going for $1200 Under Invoice in Chicago, that would mean that I35 would have more than $1200 below invoice, which would be a first.

If that is the case, the I35 is steal.

Comparing to the G35, you will feel a difference, as the I35 Multi-Link Rear Beam does effect handling in the corner. The I35 does have Torque Steering, which you will not get in the G35.

I35 has 4 Spd Trans, G35 has a 5 Spd Trans. Lots of differences, but depends what you are looking for. Remember as well that G35 will likely go out at MSRP, not below invoice.

Drop me an e-mail if you want to discuss more off-line (njbaran@worldnet.att.net).

The Aero Package consists of rear spoiler and rear underbody diffusers. What the heck is a rear underbody diffusers? Did anyone take a pictures of the underbody diffusers?

• dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
$4200.00 under invoice and it looks like it is that way across the board on their inventory of I35's

Sent you a couple of emails with configurations. You tell us, is it a good deal? Ends 2/28
• magnetophonemagnetophone Member Posts: 605
baron87, 255 is still more than the CTS. And also, 5 hp is hardly a difference - they probably needed to reduce the hp to comply with emissions.
• aggie4aggie4 Member Posts: 16
Guys, the horsepower figures HAVE NOT changed! Horsepower is 260, torque is 260. The 255 hp figure is old data that Infiniti supplied months ago and has not updated. Likewise, MSRP prices HAVE NOT CHANGED! They are the same on Infiniti's website that they were at MSRP price release in early January. If you don't believe me, look at infinitinews.com where the MSRP price release data is still available.

The problem here is that without models available to test drive we have nothing to talk about. Everybody just chill until the car arrives!
