and no one was discounting from MSRP. Some were asking a premium. I know it won't last though, come on it's not like it's limited production. They expect to sell 100,000 of these things first year.
  • maybeg35maybeg35 Member Posts: 186
you've got a dealer making deals in Grubb's Infiniti, Danny to be exact. They were discounting when everyone else was saying "MSRP only"
  • dpepperdpepper Member Posts: 44
I have not received one bit of information from Infiniti.

My local rep called to advise me of the change in delivery date, even though my unit was one of the first on the board. Wanted to find out if I was interested in purchasing the I35 loaner. Not.

I can wait, at least we'll see how sales go with what comes in. If their still on the lot better pricing could be a result for those that have to wait.

And we have to pay the 1% of MSRP advertising fee, how bout apples.

    Hey maybeg35:

Just exactly how much is Danny dealing? This is who I am working with but I have not gotten to negotiations yet. Did you buy from him? What did you get?

keyrow... One big winning area for marque like BMW is its willingness to work with high quality aftermarket tuners and suppliers. BMW worked closely with serious tuner companies like Alpina, Schnitzer, and Hartage. For Europe. Not to mention companies like Dinan in USA. This is in addition to their own BMW Motorsport's M-Series operation.

Never ceases to amaze me every time I leaf thru BMW CCA's Roundel magazine or Bimmer magazine how many great aftermarket tuners and suppliers are out there either dedicated entirely to BMWs or doing extensive business with BMWs. Something you don't see with Cadillac, Lincoln, Lexus, or Infiniti. Too bad! This is an area that separates a car company that caters to and appreciate enthusiasts, and wants to develop lasting relationships, to a car company that just want to sell you your very next car.

Wouldn't it be great if Infiniti would work with some serious tuners in USA over the next couple years to offer an M-like or Alpina-like G35??? Plus lots of high quality performance accessories that won't ruin car or void warranty? Then stick with the relationships and broaden them across the entire Infiniti line: Q45, etc.

and they are coming to the USA soon. They are huge in Japan.

aggie4, let's put it this way you would be crazy to consider a deal less than $900+ off MSRP. Does that help? I'm in Calif. so I am stuck between two dealers that say MSRP only. I can't travel that far to save that kinda money.

Hi Guys!! On the way home tonight [last night] I dropped by my local Infiniti/Nissan dealer. To my surprise there was a silver/black G35. It ALREADY had a 'sold' sign on it. YIKES!! Parked next TO the G35 was a new Maxima AND a new Altima. [even a new Sentra SE-R - but that's another topic] I'll have to admit - as I stood back and took a good hard look at all three of those cars - the one that impressed me the MOST was the Altima. Nissan sure did a nice 'job' with that car. BUT - I wasn't THERE to look at the Altima - I was there to see the new G35. I really like it. [even the tail lights!!] The headlights look a BIT like they were designed by someone who really liked the mid 60's Mercedes-Benz models. [remember those - the ones with the stacking headlights?] I like the wide chrome strip that follows along the top of the doors and am quite impressed with how close the body panels are. It was close to midnight when dropped by the dealership so I really can't say TOO much about the interior. [it WAS black - after all] Still - I did see a few things. The steering wheel looks MUCH better in person than in the photo's I've seen. Not quite as flat as I thought it would be. [if that makes sense] The 'plastic' on the dash looked pretty good too. [unlike the impression I got from all of the photo's] The seats looked a bit small though - unfortunately. When comparing the G35 with the Maxima and Altima - the G35 front wheels are considerably further away from the driver than they are in either the M or the A. The HOOD is also longer. [which is a nice change - I think]

I can't wait to actually SIT in IT!!

IF you're considering BOTH the G35 AND the Acura 3.2TL Type S - please be sure to check out the 'Sedans Comparison' boards.

    Craig!! :o)

I am 6' 0" and 200 lb and I sat in the car yesterday. I think if you get into the 6' 6" area it might start to get close. I moved my knee over to see how much of a gap there was. It was almost 2".

riez: don't forget about Nismo and Stillen, which specialize in Nissans. That's just off the top of my head, and I've never owned a Nissan. I'm sure there are others. I bet Jackson Racing gets in the game before you know it.

Lexus has TRD, I'm sure their factory supercharger for the Solara would fit Lexus models with the same engine. It would even be covered under warranty. And Rod Millen Motorsports specializes in Toyota's powertrains now.

So I don't think BMW is ahead here. The M division is wonderful, but the cars are prohibitively expensive. I doubt anyone shopping in the G35's price range will end up in an M3.

You want a great aftermarket? Check out Miata.net. Just for forced induction, you have a menu with Flyin' Miata, Garrett, and Jackson Racing. And they are affordable by mortals.

All this talk about how Benz and BMW heavily support their clubs/aftermarket/etc. is quite interesting. Remember, for the majority of their customers, it is all a marketing ploy. How many Bimmer owners are active members of the CCA? How many Benz owners truly mod their cars (engine mods, not bigger wheels and spoilers)?

Give Infiniti the benefit of the doubt. Yes, they flubbed over the past 5-6 years. But they are headed in the right track and are trying. I am a Bimmer fan myself, but it does not mean I am blind to other options.

Ultimately, the greatest marketing campaign in the world will not make up for a product does not fulfill the needs that the consumer is looking for. Lincoln introduced the LS a couple of years ago, but I did not consider it over a 3er. Cadillac more recently is trying to do the same with the CTS - again not picking that over a 3er. The new A4 came out last fall - but I do not want a FWD car - and the AWD/V6 combo makes it a little too rich for me. The Acura TL has 260 horses for a while now, but again, I do not want FWD no matter how good the chassis.

So when Infiniti announced the G35, the 260-hp/RWD combo and the promised 6 speed got my attention. I will adopt a wait-and-see attitude. But on paper at least, it blows away the 3er (NOT the M3) while sporting a lower base price. So I am following the G35's progress.

And don't forget that Nissan has already announced that they will soon start selling NISMO part through official Nssan dealers - kinda like TRD for Toyota. Presumably NISMO will bring over parts for Infiniti as well since they already do it for Infiniti's counterpart models in Japan. Either way, I don't care much for it. Interesting stuff, but IMO if that stuff is that good, then it should be factory options, not aftermarket addons. I refuse to spend anymore money on my car beyond what I spend during the initial purchase (except maintenance, of course).

As for involvement in car clubs and such, who has time for that $hit?
  • jwilson1jwilson1 Member Posts: 956
a club can be a great way to make friends and have some fun, gandhim. In my five years with the Miata club at Auto-X, rallys, and trips, I was able to pick out the free weekends and spend money on fun stuff.

The club also gave 15% on parts at a lot of aftermarket dealers. Actually much of the performance equipment was better than from the mfg., but probably couldn't be offered because the overhead would be tremendous of they had to carry, for example, ten different exhaust systems.

Like you, I'm waiting. I've heard and seen cars come out so manytimes that people on the boards are excited about, and look great on paper (IS300, Altima just in the last year or so), and when they show up ... well, I'm waiting. If nothing is really new by next Spring I'm going with either the Acura 6M w/ATTS or BMW, choices that seem obvious to me at the moment.

    Take care.

    First impressions:

Red, willow, sport package, 5 spoke wheels, demo car. Same car was at Dallas show.
    Good looking, tight sheet metal.
Comfortable seats, but smaller than i-35. Just right for 5'-8", 160 lbs.
Bulge at driver's leg noticeable, but not objectionable.
No significant wear on seats or handles.
    High quality plastic on dash.
Comfortable steering wheel. Nice movement with instrument cluster.
Titanium center console holding up well.
    Solid "clunk" when closing doors.
    Spoiler looks better in person.
Negatives, only three - Small pocket in console by passenger's left leg - Too small for anything. Interior door latch handles felt too light. Center console lid felt too light.

Confirmed that rear view mirrors fold out of the way, both forward and back.

Spoke with regional dealer manager, Bruce Campbell. Auto magazines had review of PRODUCTION vehicles about two weeks ago. The Edmund's review is the first in print. It's based on production vehicles, not prototypes. Notice in their review that they had more than one vehicle to look at - with and without sport suspension.

Delivery expected in Memphis on March 11 for delivery in the south.

Sports package will be available without spoiler.

    Schedule for this car:
March 2 - Infiniti of Nashville
March 4 - Crown Infiniti, Birmingham
March 5 - Brewbaker Infiniti, Montgomery
March 6 - Prebul Infiniti, Chattanooga
March 7 - Harper Infiniti, Knoxville
March 11 - Infiniti of Huntsville

    Can't wait to drive one!

QUOTE: "Sports package will be available without spoiler."

Did he happen to mention how one goes about over-riding the order form that forces you to select the Aero Pkg. if you want the Luxury model with Sports Pkg.?
  • gabmangabman Member Posts: 284
I had a 2003 Acura 3.2 type S on order which I was supposed to get around Feb 20/02, however I learned yesterday that Acura Canada will not release the car to my dealer until March 15/02. I even called Acura directly and they blew me off.
I learned this morning that the G35 arrived today so I went to see and drive it. This is one totaly amazing car, I bought it on the spot will have delivery next Tuesday. I never considered the G35 because I didn't want to wait until Mid March and presto it arrived before my Acura. I guess things happen for a reason because I like the G35 alot better. The pictures of the G35 do not do it justice, you must see and sit in this car it is awesome. Will let everyone know when I take delivery

Infiniti's web site indicates that you can get the STS w/o spoiler, BUT you have to get the nav and winter package. That gets you all season v rated tires rather than "summer" W rated tires. Thus, count on another $1K+ for decent tires, bringing the list price to $36K - $37K plus TTL.

Give us the dope on the RPM at 70 MPH not KPH and then see if you can borrow a G-tech from someone and post the first non guess (within 2/10ths) 0-60 in free world.
Congrats, I hope I am as enamored as you when I see mine.

gabman... Please, tell us more, a lot more. What was MSRP? What did you pay? Finance thru Infiniti? What APR? How long? What are your options? Driving impressions? MPG? RPMs at 74 mph (or KPH equivalent) using cruise control? And more. Thanks! :)

    Ok, Down Boys!!!!
First off, I went to the dealer at lunch time, I am returning tonite at 7 to drive the car. Dealer couldnt take it on the road because, get this, they couldnt get insurance and a plate, they have since called me back to tell me all is now in order, they received two, One was outside ready to go and the other is in their showroom , here in canada we have 3 choices, base, premium and sport, I have opted for the premium. Let me say this as far as styling and quality, I have no doubt that this is the car for me, as far as the drive , unless it drives like a bus I am getting it. I should say that back in 1991 I had a Q45 leased for 3 years, which I landed up leasing for a 4th year becuase I liked it so much, but back then the car was $50,000.00 here and now the new Q is $80,00.00 hence, no Q for me. I will let you all know about the drive tomorrow morning.
Price here of premium with dealer prep and all the other B/s is $41500.00 , 36 month lease with nothing down with a 59% residual value ( can you believe (59%) is cad $ 670.00/ month , which in todays dollars is US $ 416.00 (not bad). Before I decided on the Acura I looked at the CTS and F'en GM only wanted to give a 48% residual, can you imagine that on a 2003. They don't even have confidence in their own cars. Besides the car is so ugly
Now as far as the Canadian comments, don't you people know we have the best skaters , the best hockey players and no draft.
  • crikeycrikey Member Posts: 1,041
...Sleeman's and Roots. Luv Canada, if not for the cold weather and taxes. If ever I decide on getting the G35, I'll be making the trip up north to get one, eventhough I can get Nissan Vehicle Purchase Price on it after, maybe, a year (if it doesn't become too popular, that is. Otherwise, longer).
  • gabmangabman Member Posts: 284
am so excited I didn't read what i type. Price of premium is cad $ 41500.00 plus $1400.00 for prep/ del and few other things, so total is $42900.00
they sliced $900.00 off for total of $42,000.00
Lease rate for 3 years is 6.9%. lOOK i KNOW IN 4 MONTHS I CAN GET A BETTER DEAL, BUT WITH 59% RESIDUAL ON A LEASE IT REALLY DOSENT MATTER.
BESIDES WANT TO BE THE FIRST. And yes I opted not to take the navigation which is on the demo, I have a good sense of direction, but damn that girls voice on the nav is so sweet. LOL, but then again so is my wifes (if she is reading this)
  • jlanjlan Member Posts: 81
It wasn't too long ago that a bunch of cowboys (note lower "c") from DFW won the Cup!!!!

    And how about Sarah Hughes!!!!

    We have no draft either!!!!

Congratulations, gabman. You're numero uno. Please do give us your driving impression. Is it quiet at cruising speed? Is the ride silky smooth like the Q? A lot of people are holding their breath waiting for your report.

    Hay gabman,

What color did you get? If it's the Twilight Blue, could you give us an idea how dark this blue is? Is it as dark as the Majestic Blue on the I-35 or lighter, like the Spectra Blue on the Lexus IS300? Thanks.

That guy from MTDemocrat who wrote the G35 review gushed so much over this car you'd think he just had sex with Pamela Anderson rather than just having a test drive. Now, I'm really looking forward to driving this car! Could it be better than a roll in the sack with Heidi Klum?
  • stooge2000stooge2000 Member Posts: 96
That g35 review (see #1728) is very upbeat, very positive, almost too positive. But I like it. It even lightly and very gently needled the Germans.
  • ceciltcecilt Member Posts: 45
it almost sounds like an Infiniti person wrote it. Only thing he dislikes was the padding on the doors and didn't think the premium package was worth it. No car is that perfect. I will be driving it in mid-march and I hope I love it but it doesn't even have lighted steering wheel controls. Call me dumb but I can never remember what each button does when it gets dark. Why not put lights on the controls. Argh!

    Hey 68Bullitt (#1734),
Don't know about you, but the chance of a slob like me rolling in hay with a Heidi clone is near zero. Although I prefer Heidi's 35D, I may have to settle for G35 instead.

My G35 is supposed to be in at Motorcars East, Cleveland, on March 11. Garnet Fire/Willow w/ Luxury/Leather/Winter/Premium

I had went to the Detroit Auto Show and decided on the Garnet there. I'm getting anxious for it to get here, in the unlikely event I don't like it, I'll get a Q.

I think it's strange that Infiniti hasn't moved the G35 from the "Future Models" section of their web page. A lot of people who have went to the site to look at my car haven't been able to find it because it's not listed as a model with the others. I wonder how many potential sales have been missed from casual buyers.
  • canadacraigcanadacraig Member Posts: 34
IF you click on the link below you can get to the Acura.com site's TL comparison page. Pick a TL model that WOULD interest you [IF you were interested!!] and then pick a car to compare it too. Surprisingly enough - the G35 is listed. Also surprising - is how much better the G35 seems in comparison TO the TL. [makes one wonder what Acura was thinking] But - as we all know - some cars 'look' better on 'paper' then they really ARE.

    http://acura.com/comparison/comp_frame.asp?model=TL

    I hope that works!!

  • canadacraigcanadacraig Member Posts: 34
take note of the interior volume figures. There is a HUGE difference between the TL and the G35. [assuming those figures are correct]

Well, I convinced the dealer to give me a ride in the demo car this evening. Figured I'd better post this quick before gabman steals my thunder.
This car had the sport suspension. Ride was firm, but bumps in the road didn't get transferred to the passengers. Really seemed to hold the road well. Steering was very tight.
The ride was quiet when cruising, little engine or wind noise. Nice growl when he punched the accelerator.
    And the answer is:
    80 mph - 2500-2600 rpm
    90 mph - 2700-2800 rpm
    while cruising
And lots more power when he punched it at 90.
    Very impressive ride!
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
68bullitt... You raise some interesting and important points. But wouldn't the first question be how much useable interior space you'd have available for maximum use IF you were fortunate to have PSA or HK spend some quality time with you in the back seat? How comfortable would you be and what all could you do? Inquiring minds want to know.

Maybe that reviewer wrote his review after putting the G35 thru its paces in this area? Just hope he didn't burn a hole in the seats while enjoying a smoke!

Someone here who has a G35 needs to do some hands on research and report back to us. Pronto! :)
  • cybersolcybersol Member Posts: 91
    From infiniti's website:

    Passenger Compartment (ft3)
    98.0 (w/o sunroof)
    95.5 (with sunroof)

    Trunk (ft3) 14.8

    Total Internal Volume(ft3)
    112.8 (w/o sunroof)
    110.3 (with sunroof)

TL is 96.5 and 14.3 for a total of 110.8 with standard sunroof, so the TL and G35 are basically the same size.

How can you compare the Acura S with the G35?
Hint: you will probably never see (and I haven't) the Acura at SCCA Solo2 slolom races. I predict you will see LOTS of G35es in Solo2, especially after the six-speed comes out. Reason: the Acura is doomed by FWD, despite it's power. There are only a handful of FWD cars at Solo2. If you want to see what cars are really good in an all-around sense, go to a Solo2 near you.
Also, there will a ton of aftermarket equipment available for the G35. It will make the IS300 aftermarket look like a hobby shop in comparison.
Watch out for the same dealer gouge mentality as in 1970 for the 240Z. The Infiniti dealers smell blood now and those of you who buy early are shark meat. In a way, I'm glad the six-speed will be coming out this fall. By then the initial demand will be satiated, the dealers may be a little hungrier, and the option packages may be reasonably priced and sorted.
The auto G35 will be a nice, slightly faster than average, four door sedan. The typical buyer may not notice anything different from buying a FWD Acura S. But the six-speed will be a unique animal. Definitely the closest thing to a Japanese M car. A modified G35 might make an M3 driver sweat some. A stock six-speed should eat anything short of the M3. After all, the 330i manual is a 6.4 second car. The auto G35 should equal or beat that. Move over Bimmer drivers!

stooge2000 & riez: Well, I figured if the G35 is going to screw the Germans, why stop at BMWs?

at today's $0.6235 per Canadian dollar,

    CDN$42,000 = US$26,187

Just an FYI....we'll see what we get on this side of the border.

First off, I am new to this page. I did scroll back and read alot of messages, but I certainly did not go back anywhere near the beginning. The sense I get from these messages is that everyone is taking a wait and see approach. For those people all I can say is RUN, do not walk to your nearest dealer. The lease on my current vehicle was up on Feb 11/02. I had been following the cadillac CTS for the last few months and was anxiously awaiting it's arrival. The pictures looked amazing as did all the reviews I was reading. Well when that turned out to be a bust I was a few days away from my lease end and had to scury to find something. I landed up with the Acura 3.2 Type S. This car had all the bells and whistles that I wanted well within the price I wanted to pay. However I knew I was settling, just from the feeling I had within. I had seen the G35 at the auto show here but did not pay much attention to it as I spent alot of time at cadillac and acura.

Anyways with that said, when Acura starting jerking me around about release date of my 2003, I was starting to read the threads on this page and on a whim called an infinity dealer who told me they will have cars in yesterday.

I drove the car last night, and for the first time in months I had the old feeling back. You know the one, the excitement, the feeling that comes over you when you know you are getting an amazing vehicle that you want. The same kind of feeling you get when you have been smitten by an incredible chick. Yup, I think you guys are getting a sense now.

Ok, enough with the jibberish. This car is truly amazing. It is solid, handles incredible, the trim is great, and fast is not the right word to describe it. Interior volume does blow the Acura and CTS away. Great head room, more than enough hip and leg room. Like the Q45, when you turn off the car the drivers seat slides all the way back for easy exit and when you start the car it returns to your memory position. Only snag is you had better make sure that the person sitting behind the driver is out of the car before you take the key out beacuse that seat will land up on their legs. Also rear foot room though ample is hard for the person to get their feet out from under the front seat. So put big footed rear passengers on pasenger side.

Another thing, whoever gets to sit in the middle position of the back seat will not be a happy camper. As it is real wheel drive, you have the big hump on the floor. This is really a 4 seater unless you have small kids.

At first I had a frustrating test drive, I took it on the highway and the yahoos in front of me were so captivated by the headlights that they slowed down and I can see they were looking thru their rearview mirror, so I had trouble opening it up. However a nice gentle press of the gas peddle and a quick move right and then left, left this guy in the dust wondering " who was that masked man".

The car handles as well as any european car I have driven, it is lightening fast (that's the word I was looking for) and handles itself admirably over bumps, you feel the road but you do not feel the vibration of the bump as you do in the Acura Type "S" . The front seats are big enough ( I am a big guy) and you feel solid in them. The consol between driver and passenger is wide and you have this sense of comfort and security in the drivers seat.

I have read that this vehilce is a 4 door Z, althought I haven't seen the Z, I kind of understand what the writer was getting at.

The front and rear lights are amazing, and will be a real eye grabber. The front instrument panel is orange and very bright, I couldnt be bothered to look for the dimming switch as I was having to much fun driving.

I have ordered a Black on Black, the dealer had two cars there, first was a base model no sunroof in a champagne colour which looked one clour during the day and looked totaly different when I returned at night. The seats were beige and the trim was a dark grey like colour , it was very nice.

The demo I drove was silver, with a black interior, with navigation system. The nav pops up
out of a part of the dash, the screen is small
but looks appealing. I really didn't spend any time with the nav as here is Canada we all have a great sense of direction and not many people are opting for it in any car. So no comments from me on nav.

Demo came with 17" Goodyear tires, you can get Bridgestone also , depends on how your car arrives.

I do need some quick help from someone out there
that can explain the diff between all season and summer tires to me. As I plan to put 16" winters with steel rims on for the winter I want to know if I should try to get the dealer to replace the all seasons with summer tires. Comments Please!!!!

By the way the transmission is great, very smooth and responsive and the sequential shift is fun and works as well as can be expected given what it is.

Ok although i am not out of words, I do have to get some work done as I blew the whole day yesterday on my car quest.

If anyone has any specific questions, fire away I will do my best. And by the way don't ask me anything about RPM's and the like. I was really to busy to pay attention, I drive by feel, and this baby felt wonderfull.

And truthfully, even if Pamela or sue or whoever were in the back seat, i couldnt have cared less. I found my love.

Oh, last comment. there is something very strange about the windshield, I have never in past cars commented or even gave thought to visibility, but there is something about the visibility that is so different from any other casr I have been in . The visibility at night was like watching a giant screen t.v. I don't know if the zenon headlights were doing it or there is something with the size of the glass or the shape but this car has incredible visibility which you will notice for sure.

    K, enough ,later

.... is probably at the very least 10 times better then that guy at the Mountain Democrat.

Great job Gabman, and more importantly, thanks for giving insights from the car buyer/user point of view. Its a perspective that 99.99% of professional automotive writers ignore.

As for the view out from the front windshield, I *think* one reason you get that expansive feeling is because of the shape of the hood. The middle section is much lower, and the sides rise to accomodate the headlamps. Kinda like a pontoon. Porsche has been doing it for decades and it works quite well.

Thought I would take a minute to thank everyone that participants in these forums. They are very helpfull for a number of reasons, most importantly the fact that people take the time from there busy schedules to participate, because after all this world would be a very sorry place if no one gave a damn.

As a follow up just got off the phone with my dealer who provided me with my vin number and scheduled arrival between Tuesday and Friday of next week. Will be holding my breath, actually I will busy with Pamela and the likes of her until I can fill my pleasure with my new wheels, no offense to the chicks out there just trying to be funny ... later

Did you notice that "bulge" in the driver's footwell that others have commented about?
