I requested several quotes from local area Hyundai dealers on a 2007 Elantra Limited, automatic. So far ive had 2 replys. One quote came in at invoice price, but he said he would not be undersold. The other guy quoted me at $17038 (before tax, tag, doc fees)plus I get my $1000 rebate. Sticker on this car is $18485.

I have a question, how valid is this email quote? Or should I go to the dealer and get the quote in writing? I plan on writing the other dealer(s) and seeing if they will go lower (since they "will not be undersold"). Second question, from what ive read on these boards this looks like a pretty good price, is it? It seems hard to find any SE's or Limited's in my area (the South).
  • nthenthe Member Posts: 414
where in the south are you?

IMHO, I think you can do better if you wait a bit. kbb.com shows invoice is $17582 minus your $1K leaves $16582. You should be able to buy for $16K or a little less. In general cars are NOT selling well. The CarStealers will hold out as long as possible to get as close to MSRP as possible. I personally use the INVOICE price and work down. I only purchase when I absolutely have to which gives me the advantage over other buyers. BTW, the Limited is not that available as the GLS or the SE so you will pay extra for it. :(

I have a Limited - and I have seen many on dealer lots. Besides, car dealers get new cars delivered all the time and can tell you when one will arrive. You should not have to pay more for it (in fact, it should cost less, since it does not have to sit on a dealer's lot)

Im am in the panhandle of florida. So im looking at dealers in Dothan, Enterprise, Tallahassee, Panama city, Fort Walton, and Pensacola. Ill even drive further if I get a deal that makes up for the extra miles driven.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
I think the price actually is $16k, after the $1000 rebate. I think that's a very good price for a Limited right now, with rebates only at $1000. One might be able to squeeze a few more bucks out by going back and forth between dealers, or wait and see what happens to rebates. But $400 under invoice before rebates seems pretty darn good.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Backy, compare that to the $16,651 we paid 2 months ago for a SONATA SE w/ XM. Yes, the Sonata SE is a 6 cyl which may or may not be desirable depending upon the buyer. But the Sonata has so much more. Feb. prices stayed the same through 4/30. We'll see what happens for May.

Our deal was $1800 under invoice less the rebates (total of $4300 under invoice). The Elantra deal, in Feb was, I think $2500 under invoice including rebates. It wasn't much more to get the Sonata. The 4 cyl Sonata GLS would have been lower than the $16,651 but felt the extras in the SE were worth it.

We started looking at Elantra Limited, then with the additional discounts offered on the Sonata considered the Sonata GLS and ultimately bought the Sonata SE.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Yes, I think we've been down this road before, but the Sonata does represent a better value than the Elantra right now re amount-of-car-for-the-money due to larger rebates and discounts available on the Sonata. If the Elantra winds up getting a Good on the IIHS side impact test, that will decide it for me, and I much prefer the interior of the Elantra over the Sonata. I like the smaller size of the Elantra also, its higher fuel economy, and the fact that soon it will be available as a hatch/wagon. Also that I can get a telescopic wheel on the four-sylinder Elantra SE, but not the I4 Sonata.

    Hello,
I am interested Hyundai, Elentra GLS 2007 with air conditioner and auto transmissions. i do not need other opertion. I am in Miami, FL. What is good OTD price? Is that possible get for $120,000. In auto.msn.com shows the A/C is standard but other websites shows it is optional. Any suggestion. This is my first time I buy a new car.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Did you mean $12,000 OTD? That is pushing it, as it would be more than $3000 under invoice after the $1000 rebate, depending on what taxes, fees, and license cost in Miami. (Invoice is $15,462.) You might get lucky and find a special deal on a car like that, because it doesn't have popular features like stereo and cruise. IMO a more realistic price is around $14,000 plus tax/fees/license. That is a possible price because it is available at fitzmall.com. Not Miami, no, but if one dealer can offer that price maybe another will. Fitzmall is known for offering good prices.

Since it is your first time buying a new car, I strongly recommend that you bring someone along who is experienced in negotiating with car dealers--a family member or someone else you trust. Or find a dealer like Fitzmall that offers good prices with no negotiation needed. One way to simplify things is to deal with the Internet Sales Manager at the dealership. They generally offer low, no-nonsense pricing. One way to get in touch with the Internet Sales Manager at your local dealer is to use the form that popus up when you look at New Car prices at Edmunds.com. Good luck!

Got a quote of 14,696 for a grey GLS w Pref pkg and mats at McCafferty's in Langhorne PA. Told them I was ok with the price but didn't want all the pinstripes, front plate, and ugly door and wheel opening edge guards which they add to all the cars so they can double-sticker. They offered to take them off and come down another $170 (using a heat gun) but I wasn't comfortable with the possible damage to the finish, and I'd still have holes in the front bumper from the plate. Called Fred Beans Hyundai in Doylestown PA where they don't mess up the cars with moldings, etc. They came pretty close so I bought there. Price $14,800 after the $1000 rebate. OTD was 15,868 including tax and new tags.
  • sandman46sandman46 Member Posts: 1,798
We always get these on our cars, color matched, and they really help against dings. The look is almost undistinquishable, since they are all color coated. Obviously some folks don't like them though. Never knew that.

    lonewalden,

i work for a dealership in birmingham. In alabama, you can also get another $500 rebate for financing with hyundai (in addition to the $1000 rebate).
  • nthenthe Member Posts: 414
yeah, imagine that, a business trying to make money.

I am in the market for an Elantra with the SE trim, automatic tranny. We are located in Central California and not many of the dealers have the SE or the Limited in stock. I am now looking outside the area toward Stockton, San Jose, or L.A. One dealership states they will sell the SE at invoice $16,800 + fees, less the current $2,000.00 rebate. The OTD price would be around $16,396. Is this a good price or should I be able to get this Elantra under invoice by a few hundred dollars?
    thanks,
    Califasramsran

I would go through Carsdirect or an internet sales manager you trust, I got my Limited through Carsdirect. Mine was only one of 2 Limiteds with manual tranny in CA, and they found it. I would have saved a few hundered dollars perhaps going through the internet manager Roseville, but that was less convenient for me than going to the cars direct rep in Richmond. Whatever you do don't walk onto a lot cold.

ok, so I'm new (to Edmunds, and to looking at the Elantra), so be gentle :-)

I am looking at the automatic Elantra GLS with option 3 (fog lights, ABS, AC...) and got an OTD of $16,000 (Florida). This includes the new grad discount of $400. Good deal?!? HELP!
  • percussionistpercussionist Member Posts: 204
No - that's not a good deal. Just out of curiosity, have you looked into the SE? It has more options for about that same price.
  • remag1234remag1234 Member Posts: 32
Just got back from shopping for an Elantra GLS & Accent GLS. I just asked for ballpark prices. Elantra $15K, Accent $13500. Salesman said when ready he could do a little better. I live in Queens, NY. I'm sure by the end of June prices will come down even more, especially if gas prices continue to go up. BTW, leasing a Sonata GLS for $99 per month with $3K down, a good deal. :)
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
$99/mo for the Sonata GLS?!? Oh my gosh!! At such a low price, I'd consider leasing instead!!! How long is your lease, and how many miles?

As far as Elantra SE goes - I don't know if I really care for the upgrades. Do you know what would be a "good" buy on this car? I'm thinking of either getting a Hyundai, Honda Civic, or Toyota Corolla (maybe Camry).
  • nthenthe Member Posts: 414
riddlermyth, the msrp on the elantra gls with the package you mention is about 16500(auto). There is currently a 1000 rebate and with that rebate you should be able to get one for about 14700 before taxes. Also depending on what part of florida you live in, if alabama is close by there is currently an additional $500 rebate for financing with hyundai in this state (I work for a dealership in alabama).
  • califasramsfancalifasramsfan Member Posts: 31
I am in Calif. and have been looking for the Elantra SE or the Limited. There are only 3 or 4 available in the entire state. Most are over 200 miles away and colors I don't want. We decided to make a deal locally on the GLS w/preferred package incl. XM. So here is the price we negotiated over the phone with two different dealers after having been in to see them.
    MSRP = $16,780 (invoice 16,143)
    price = $15,700
    -rebate $ 2,000
selling price $13,700 plus tax, lic, fees.

Although we aren't getting the SE options we are getting the colors we want, (Regatta Blue/gray interior and the XM).
One of these dealers always advertises this model @ 143 below invoice.
Is $443 below invoice the best deal we should be able to get?
    thanks,
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Maybe not, but it's a very good deal. And it's the color you want. You can look around for a better deal, and you might save a few more bucks, but consider the value of your time and that you might not find that same color combination.
  • califasramsfancalifasramsfan Member Posts: 31
We purchase the GLS, preferred package w/XM radio, AT this afternoon. We paid $15,700 or $443 below invoice (16,143) and got the color and options we wanted. I hope this helps others try and get an even better deal when they get ready to close their purchase.
Hyundai will begin to close out the 07s in June and July so you should have no problem shooting for 500, 600 or 700.00 below invoice. What the heck, all they can say is no. Remember, its only business! :shades:
  • nthenthe Member Posts: 414
"Hyundai will begin to close out the 07s in June and July "

the 07 elantra came out last Oct (late in the month too) so the 08 won't be out untill later this fall most likely. Cali has some better deals on 07s than the rest of the country cause you guys get $2000 in rebates. $500 behind invoice is a great deal, cause that is the holdback on the car, so the dealer is only making money if you finance and if they reach their quota for the month.

I got a quote over the Internet for an Elantra SE automatic for $14.895 (plus taxes, fees, etc). That price seemed too good to be true, since they quoted the MSRP at $17,625. Now this does include the $1,000 rebate, however, I'm not able to get the low APR of 3.99%. I called a few dealers about this, and they all said it's either one or the other, but not both. Has anyone gotten both for their Hyundai purchase? And what about this price? I called them to confirm this is indeed the right price, and they said yes because it's an Internet price, and the Internet is their best source right now. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
    Suggestions? Grab it!
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
That may be the case in your area, but don't think it's better than the rest of the country.

The NJ dealer we recently purchased from is currently offering Elantras for $1200 below invoice plus there's the $1,000 consumer rebate, making the price of the car $2200 below invoice. Add $189 doc fee, taxes and registration and you're out the door. (No financing through the dealer or HMFC required.)

LOL I think I am...I got a quote from another dealer that was right around the same price. This dealer said he only has 1 in stock, and he can't find anymore for me. I'm going to check with another one tomorrow, but I may just end up with the GLS. He claims there's not too much of a difference.

I'm located in the suburbs of Chicago.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
IMO there is a big difference between the GLS and SE: 16" alloys (much better looking than the 15" plastic covered wheels on the GLS I think), telescopic steering wheel, trip computer with mpg meter, leather-covered wheel and shifter, maybe others I'm forgetting. If you can get an SE for about the same money as a GLS, by all means get the SE!
  • fb1977fb1977 Member Posts: 4
Ooo thanks for that input...I was thinking the same when they gave me the prices. I thought, well, if the difference is only about $700, I may as well get the SE. I'm almost positive the other dealer had some in stock. I just don't understand how the one dealer said no sorry can't get you one, not many have been made, etc.

Can you tell me what exactly a telescopic wheel is?

I DO like the leather-covered steering wheel, as minor as that may seem, but it makes a difference to me. I commute an hour to work each way, so any little bit helps!
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
A telescopic wheel not only tilts, it moves forward and back to adjust to the driver. This is particularly important on the '07 Elantra because it lost the dual-knob height adjuster on the seat bottom that earlier Elantras had. The telescopic wheel helps make up for that, and lets you adjust the driving position to a comfy fit. It's not critical if you are the only driver and you fit fine in the GLS, but it may come in handy if others drive the car, and when you sell it someday.
  • califasramsfancalifasramsfan Member Posts: 31
The dealer is right! If you can find one buy it! The added options are only another $700 dollars. I live in Central California and none of the dealers within 200 miles from us had an SE. A dealer from Bakersfield offered to sell the SE $100 under invoice minus another $2,000 rebate. Problem was he only found three in the entire state, a Silver, White and Sand. I didn't care for any of these colors.
We ended buying the GLS for about $450 under invoice. Now shopping around for alloys and found a nice set for about $400.00 installed.
Besides the 16" alloys on the SE I would have liked the steering wheel radio controls. Everything else the same.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Not quite the same... don't forget the telescopic wheel, trip computer, and leather trim bits. I forgot the audio controls on the wheel though--those can be handy.
  • remag1234remag1234 Member Posts: 32
How about a price of $12299 for an SE. That's the NY :):) price today 5/25/07. That's a great price, IF the CarStealers honor the ad. Note that cars are NOT Selling as they will lead you to believe, so prices must come down. In addition to that the 2008's will be on the way soon [about 4 months from now]. The only thing is to be aware that they will try to switch models etc.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Let me guess... the small print has one invoice number (which of course is sold before you get there), and something about "must qualify for college graduate and military rebates". Also something about a full moon maybe. :)
  • fb1977fb1977 Member Posts: 4
    Wow, that's a great price!!

I def want controls on the steering wheel. That's another big deal to me. However, I know I'll prob end up with a GLS because I won't want to mess around with waiting, and trying to find one.

Now my goal is get them to give me the price with the rebate, AND the low APR. If they do that, I will buy in a heartbeat. I do NOT look forward to that battle tomorrow, ugh!
  • commodore64commodore64 Member Posts: 1
Could you let me know what dealership in NJ was giving the $1200 below invoice deal on the Elantras? Thanks.
  • blownalcoholblownalcohol Member Posts: 19
I am new to the Hyundai brand. Looks like you get a lot for the money.

On the 07 Elantra Ltd. auto with MSRP 18,655, I was offered this car for 17000 out the door. That's with NC tax of 3%

    The ext. color is sand

How does this price sound? I am researching the threads to learn more.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
That looks like a few hundred below invoice after the $1000 rebate (assuming you don't qualify for the graduate or military rebates). You didn't mention what other fees there are (e.g. doc fee or license), but I'm assuming they are at least a couple hundred bucks. Not a bad price. You can always offer less and see what they say. It is the end of the month after all.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Towne Hyundai in Denville. Check their web site for more details.
  • remag1234remag1234 Member Posts: 32
The SE is not the same as the GLS. Go the kbb.com and click on COMPARE. Yes, they are basically the same car but then all the extras come into play, and there's the difference. You MUST select a model SE etc. and either stick to that model or research all the other models as to price. The SOB's do the switch to a different model and if you're not prepared you get it in the rear. You all have to realize that it's true they want to sell cars, but it's a GAME with them to see how much they can pick your pocket. It's not the same as going to Wal-Mart or any other retailer who prices an item and that's it. Too many people go to buy a car totally unprepared and think they got a good deal. Keep in mind that they do this 7 days a week and you do it once every 3,4,5,6 years. It's impossible to beat them. You can get a deal if you really do your homework and are not in a hurry. Buying a car is a business transaction and not an emotional one. Keep that in mind and you should be okay. The best of cars will end up costing no less than $2K-5K a year to own or lease, so having a car is a costly proposition. :)
  • blownalcoholblownalcohol Member Posts: 19
I do not qualify for any other rebates.
That is 17k out the door = tax, title, and tag.
All fees are in the 17k OTD price.
  • raideroneraiderone Member Posts: 2
Just bought a silver SE yesterday. Here are the details on the hopefully fantastic deal:

I researched and got quotes from Hyundai dealers on the internet (Elantra SE Auto w/ floor mats MSRP 17,580). Most dealers came in at or around 15,630 + TTL and Fees. This included the 1000 cash back. One dealership was having an "Employee Pricing Sale" and came back with 14,800 + TTL and Fees. My wife and I went to check it out last Saturday. When we got there they only had 1 SE left in stock, but it had a spoiler and an MSRP of 17,955. I told them that we did not want to pay more than the quoted price. They said they will do a search and find us one. They called on Tuesday and said they could not find us one and tried selling us the one with the spoiler again. I told them that I was not going to pay more and was going to a competing dealership that had 4 of what we wanted in stock. After I said that the salesperson asked to me hold a couple of minutes. When he came back, he said we could have the car at the same price. What a deal, MSRP of 17,955 for 14,800. After TTL and a doc fee 129 I had the car for 15,855 OTD with no money down and no trade. :P
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
You should be very pleased with your deal. Hope you like your new Elantra!
  • remag1234remag1234 Member Posts: 32
Sounds like a great deal. Why is it that the posts almost never give a location as to City & State???? Prices vary across the country which makes it hard to get a great price in Calif compared to NY...
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Shoot, the folks in CA get an extra $1000 rebate on the Elantra! (at least they did the past couple of months)
  • raideroneraiderone Member Posts: 2
    This was in Milwaukee, Wi.

I'm looking for an '07 Elantra in either MD, VA, WVA, or PA (I live in MD but am willing to travel for a good deal). Can anyone suggest why buying in one of these states might be better than another?

Also, I've got 3 competing current offers for GLS Automatic w/Preferred package:
$14,495 + taxes, tags, title, and a yet unknown processing fee; includes preferred package, stripes, door guards, wheel locks, and fender trim
$14,918 + taxes, tags, and title; includes preferred package, floor mats, and mudguards
$14,851 + taxes, tags, and title; includes preferred package only

All of these already include the current $1000 rebate. Do any of these look good, or should I be investigating something else (like a bare-bones SE that would get me the AC and nicer rims?).
