I am growing more used to the engine, so I'm keeping it for a while. Putting 15K per year in mileage on a car, it doesnt make much sense to trade up. Maybe if they bring out an Elantra Turbo at some point in the next couple years.
Elantra's are selling fast. Lot of bang for the buck in this car. I got my non-Nav Limited for 19500 this past January, so based on what the car is selling for on lots right now, I got a hell of a good deal.
We're not discounting them in my market, some dealers near me won't sell "hot" colors (White and Black) for even sticker. It's like anything else, supply vs demand. Want a 2011 Genesis? Do I have a deal for you....
Right now the toughest car is a GLS with the Package. We do have one Limited gathering dust.. a white one, came in on Friday and it didn't sell today... that's the longest I have seen a White Limited last on the lot since May.
Just because I'm stubborn, I think I will wait another month or two just to see if people take a break from car shopping (i.e. stalking Elantras) to travel and save for holiday presents!
The only difference is its way more popular, and dealers are getting top dollar..

Done.
My wife is now the proud owner of a 2012 Elantra Limited. Sky Blue Metallic with Tech Package (Navi, Rear Camera, Proximity Entry, 360 W Stereo) and several PIAs: mats, wheel locks, cargo net/mat. Price was $23,300 before TTL. That's only about $365 off MSRP but given market conditions and that it's still more than $2K cheaper than her next choice, the Cruze, we felt it was a good enough deal.
TTL adds another $2K: 7% sales tax + doc fees/1st year registration.
So I purchased a 2012 Elantra, GLS, M/T at my local dealership for $17035. After everything was said and done, the total came to $18362 ( tax = 1034, documentation fee = 214). I'm just really worried that I paid too much. Did I? I've been reading the OTC prices that some have posted and I'm just wondering if those include tax and everything b/c if they do then I need someone to tell me how to renegotiate.
Btw, they told me it would take 2-4 wks to get the car. Now they're saying it'll take another 2-3 months for a silver M/T. They're offering a GLS A/T for $700 more if I need the car sooner. Is that a good deal?
I have no idea what to do. This is my first car purchase and no one seems to know what to do. I need your advice!
Examples: 2012 Elantra GLS M/T and nothing else is $17,205 (with shipping). Change it to an A/T and add $1000.
So it sounds like you're getting at least a little bit off the list price of the car. So while it may be possible to get it cheaper, you're not being ripped off.
I "settled" for a 2011 Elantra with auto last December. I ended up trading it in on 2012 Elantra manual this August.
Can they get a manual transmission in a different color sooner?
Good luck with the new car. I know you will love it!....by the way, so far I've found the stereo sounds best with faded one notch toward rear and the bass and mid range turned up 2 notches, with the treble turned down 3 notches. Also, keep the auto volume control on.....
Happy Trails!
She probably won't get EPA MPG economy on a daily basis as her commute is only 3 miles & that's generally not enough for an engine to get fully warmed up. But we're looking forward to it being better than the '01 Elantra it's replacing and definitely looking for better highway economy. I've also told her about the ECO light so she can train her right foot to go a little lighter.
We definitely have different driving styles. Though she'd never admit it she has a tendency to punch the throttle more on takeoff than I do. That said, she normally stops around maybe 3600-4K RPM. When I, OTOH, do let loose & leadfoot it I've no problem running to redline (my CUV will hit 90 in 3rd gear
Besides the navi, (disregarding my cars) this is her first vehicle with a rear camera, sunroof, TCS/VSC, ABS, satellite radio, heated seats, pushbutton start, proximity entry, and so on. She's committed evenings to slowly RTFMs so she knows how most things work. We even waited in the garage last night to see how long the headlights & interior lights stay on after exiting the car.
The only disappointment so far is, of course, the lack of a spare tire. She's going to think about buying one but we'll probably hold off until at least when the roadside assistance runs out.
I read somewhere that Hyundai modified the suspension a little for 2012 to answer some ride issue complaints in the 2011s.
About 3 weeks after buying my Outlander, I told the wife that cameras are now a must-have for me. I really like how much better you can see behind the car with them. Not only in parking lots but just backing out of our driveway since our neighborhood has lots of young children.
I guess they lie to all customers to keep them from considering other options.
Maybe by 2013 the newness of the Elantra will wear off plus with more competition from Japan (new Sentra, improved Mazda3, new Impreza, maybe a new Corolla) prices may come down a bit. Maybe.
Some tweaks to packages are normal with a new model. So far, the car is the best car, in it's class, to date. It gets 40mpg hwy and 30mpg city. Period.
There is a 1000 mile break in period, which means, start calculating your mpg's after that. I leased my GLS August 10th, 2011, and have 1200 freeway miles on it, so far. The mpg on the window sticker is right on!
This is my 3rd new car lease in 10 years. I think I'll keep this one, maybe, and I'll be getting me some great Michelins after my new tires wear out.
GLS w/preferred package, floor mats, cargo tray, cargo net, destination $19,055
Dealer doc fee $399
Estimated TN sales tax is a few dollars over $1500
TN tags will be another $100-120
I will be using the $500 matching funds from Hyundai through Motozuma, so my net will be between $20,500 & $20,600 or so. I will probably finance about $8K for 3 years with the 1.9% Hyundai deal.
Update, dealer just called and I can pick it up (after completing the paperwork, writing them a check, etc.) this afternoon on the way home.
I'll report on the Motozuma experience with the dealer. My saleswoman had not heard of that when I show it to her 2 weeks ago. She was supposed to show it to the sale manager or finance guys. I'm hoping it will not be an issue since Hyundai does list it on their site.
This in dallas fortworth, TX area
I guess it depends on the dealer. Don't know why they would do it. If someone put down a deposit then decided against the purchase when it came it and it still sells with 48 hours, does not seem if the dealer would be taking any chances. Its not like you are ordering something from the factory that would be hard to sell.

We ordered from upcoming dealer allocation, got her 2nd choice for color, and had to wait about 2 weeks for it to arrive. They gave a small discount off MSRP.
She's still getting used to it & hasn't RTFMed to find out the small features.
After a little over a month I LOVE this car. Averaging 33 miles per gallon. Very happy so far.

ALL in ALL what we thought was a GREAT deal
Now here is some helpful information some of the things finance wants you to buy (this is where the dealership makes most of their money as well as the interest they charge on financed cars) when they sell you a new car
here is what they pitched to us and approximate cost as I am doing this from memory
An extra 5 yr 50K mile Vehicle Service plan (VSP) (4 diff options) (2795)
A Skylink system (anti theft device) (795)
A Cilajet exterior/interior protective sealant (830)
A tire and basic package (517)
They quoted us these prices and then after we mentioned we were costco member at the ? by the finance manage when we did not bite at the initial offering, the prices came way down
Costco pricing (why did we not get this optional ? first), because quite simply it is 100% profit for the dealer and commission for the finance person.
THE VSP (now went down to ($1,270)
Skylink (dropped to $315)
Cilajet (now done to 279)
The tire and basic package (now down to 300)
Since it was still all profit we told the dealership NO DEAL as Howie Mandel would have said and walked out the door with our new toy
Here is how long it took us to find one we researched for about 2 months test drove a sonata and an Elantra, a CRUZE, a camry, A Mazda 6, and a HONDA Civic (all 4 door sedans with comparable features) and decided we liked the price/value and ride best in the ELANTRA, Sonata and Civic EX-L ranked 1,2 and 3 respectively.
We started shopping at CARMAX then did internet quote request, visited the dealerships that we had set up appointments with at certain times.
Got internet quotes from reasonable to we dont sell the ELANTRA at less than MSRP, so we went with the most reasonable offer and then others were sent emails to see if they could match or beat the offer and they could not so we ended up driving about 45-50 minutes away to buy the car and on Friday Oct 7, 2011 we became owners of a 2012 ELANTRA
