I took the plunge yesterday and purchased a 2011 Pearl White SE w/o nav. I paid $22,000 and qualified for the 2.9% financing, which sealed the deal. I'm only 22, so I don't have much credit established and I wasn't expecting to qualify for such a low rate. I couldn't be happier with the car!

Kristabell - What's the best quote you have received? I will drop you an e-mail later today. I'm currently negotiating with 2 - 3 dealers but should have it nailed down today. When are you looking to buy?

Salvie - Is that OTD? Can you provide the breakdown please? Thanks!

While I was on hold with 1 dealer I heard him discuss about another $ 1,000 that Hyundai is kicking back to to dealers. That's probably why we are seeing prices much lower than what is visible on Truecar, ZAG, etc.

    Price: $22,000
    Destination: $720
    Tax @ 6.25%: $1,420
    Fees, Title, Etc: $343
    OTD: $24,483

This was for the SE with Pearl White paint, iPod cable, wheel locks, floor mats, and the Homelink mirror.

I probably could have gotten the price a little lower, but I cared more about the low financing rate in the long run and I really wanted the Pearl White color, which I haven't seen very often at any other dealers in Texas, at least not on the SE.

I live in Houston and bought from Ron Carter Hyundai. Totally smooth and professional transaction.

FYI: All Hyundai dealers get 2.6% of invoice holdback from the factory on every Hyundai they sell, not to mention any additional incentives on new models or for meeting sales goals. This was good to know going into negotiations.

From the Chicago price posted in this forum, looks like you paid $1700 more than him? I also in Houston, looks like Hyundai dealer here usually charge $2000 more than the East Coast. Don't know why.
    ------------------------------
The best number I've received on the SE (with floor mats and no other options) so far is $ 21,000 + TTL.

    + Doc Fee $154.38
    + Title & License $219.00
    + 7.25% Sales Tax $1,500

Comes to about $ 22,900 OTD.

I'm in the Chicagoland area. I'm targetted an OTD price of approximately $ 22,200 and looking to buy in the next couple of days.

    Any tips?

We bought a 2002 limited new and it now has 215000 miles. Starting to have mechanical problems but that's to be expected. We have decided to buy a 2011 limited with wine interior in Harbor Gray Metallic. Navigation is a must as we work in home health and have worn out our Tom Tom. I will be shopping in central texas. Any info on the price you paid for a similar trim would be most helpful. ;)

The Sonata GLS with Pkg2 shouldn't have a retail price anywhere near $23,460. That seems very high. Even if you add all available accessories to a Pkg2 car the full retail price would be $21,995.

Is the dealer adding a "market adjustment" over the sticker price? That is common in this area. One dealer I visited had a $3,900 markup over sticker on all 2011 Sonatas. Needless to say, I quickly ran away from that dealer.

I am looking to purchase a 2011 GLS, Pkg2, with floor mats and iPod cable this week (hopefully). Sticker price is $21,800. If a dealer is willing to sell it to me for $21,200 or less I would probably go for it.

The $23,460 is more representative of a GLS with Pkg3 (Nav). If your offer is truly a Pkg2 car, it almost appears as though the dealer inflated the retail price to be able to give the appearance of a "larger" discount.

With regards to the "VIP Vehicle Protection Plan", I would be wary of such a plan unless it is specifically backed by Hyundai. Hyundai does offer Protection Plans, but they are referred to as HPP Plans and come in varying levels of coverage.

I agree $21,200 otd for Pkg2 is a good deal. Some states just jacked up the price and earned more money.
  • usfarbuo1usfarbuo1 Member Posts: 35
You are right about that false "market adjustment". I went looking for a 2011 Sonata and the dealer had a $1,200. "market adjustment" tacked on to the sticker price. Bunch of crap if you ask me. With Nav. and the $1,200. added on sticker price came to 29,500 and he eventually quoted me 26, 500 and took another 500. off because on the Hyundai loyalty. I know I could have gotten him down more but I'm really interested in the 2010 Genesis and I'm waiting this month (May) to see if the $1,500 Hyundai loyalty is extended to Massachusetts (where I live) because believe it or not Hyundai had the $1,500. loyalty in New York, New Jersey, and Conn. in April but not in Mass-is that stupid or not?

You have to be prepared to walk away from a BAD deal. There is no sane reason to overpay for this car at this time. I cross-shopped the Accord EX with the Sonata GLS (PEP2) for two weeks and made a deal on 4/29 for the Sonata. I am in Ohio where the Accord is very popular but i wanted the Sonata. MSRP was 21765 (no ipod cable) and my sell price was 19900 ( 1865 under sticker). There is at least $1000 of dealer incentives on the Sonata (in April anyway) so you just have to shop around. Check out truecar.com for detailed pricing info and Good hunting!
  • truelies1truelies1 Member Posts: 34
$19900+TTL is a reasonable price for PEP2. I can wait to next year for this car, just wondering if this one can go to $16000+TTL like 2010?

Actually, I leased the car because i am the type who cannot buy the new-model design of any vehicle. Sales price for the lease was 19900. Hyundai Motor Finance had promo lease rates of 60% residual and an extremely low money factor of .00048 for the GLS in April. My payment is $223/month and out-the-door was $305 (first payment and BMV fees of $82. Sales tax of 6.5% included in the monthly payment. This deal wasn't that hard to get at the end of this month so i reiterate that shopping around is necessary. Deal included $500 military bonus from Hyundai (taxed, of course)...

We just purchased a 2011 Sonata, GLS, PEP2, carpeted floor mats, no cable, pacific blue. My daughter calls it "please ignore me blue" I loved this forum when I was figuring out how much I should pay so here is the deal I got from Ken Vance in Eau Claire, WI.

    MSRP 21,795
Hyundai owner loyalty 500.00, my other daughter has an Elantra.
    Recent grad program 400.00.
We offered 19,000 and they keep incentives. So we got the car for effectively
19,900. plus tax, title, and license. Used the 2.9% financing deal. I did work with one other dealer closer to me who would not give me the 19,000. Good luck to all!

Hey, just wondering if you were able to get the Limited w/nav for that price? ($25750).
I'm looking for the same model with nav and if you got the deal, would appreciate knowing which dealer in NY it was. Thanks!

"the lowest price at the moment for 2011 Ltd with Nav. is $26,228 and without Nav it is $24,120."

I'm just starting to shop for the 2011 Sonata Limited w/o Nav in the SoCal area. Would you mind sharing where you were able to get it down to $24,120 and what color it was? I'm looking to get it in silver. Thanks!
  • ipswichgregipswichgreg Member Posts: 15
After test drives, I requested quotes via internet/email from several dealers. I negotiated the price only via email. Once I settled on price, I visited the dealer to discuss colors, etc. Thus, going to the dealer was just to sign papers and work out timing, etc. Try gettting an interent quote. The internet manager will then refer you to a salesperson to close the deal. In the case of Price, the interent manager referred me to one of the younger sales guys, who was very helpful. Good luck.
  • abigmuttabigmutt Member Posts: 38
the price without Nav was at Frank Hyundai in National City, the internet manager there is Howard Fleischman. I honestly don't remember what colors they had then, but it will surely have changed by now. I know that silver is pretty common color for the Ltd, plenty available in S.Calif.
    Good luck.

note: their policy for internet sales is to sell at $100. below their invoice, whatever model they're selling.

    Hey folks,

I just signed a lease for 36 months/12000 miles lease deal from the Paramus Hyundai through the internet sales manager. They said my vehicle will be available sometime late next week but we will see if they were bluffing or not. I am getting 2011 Sonata Limited w/NAV in Pacific Blue which is located at dealer in Buffalo NY.
I dealt with him only via email and was able to pull the prices down to the following which I think is quite reasonable yet not the best around the neighbor.
What do you guys think? :confuse:

    Buy - 25K+TTL
Lease - $353/Month with absolute 0 down (No taxes or inception fees)
  • sscpsscp Member Posts: 1
Thats great I too have just purchased from paramus hyundai a limited with nav in red will pick it up today dealt with internet manager also 25710 plus ttl
  • realccierealccie Member Posts: 3
LOL. you must be buying the ventian red car that we just saw last night.
Nice looking color but my wife hates red car as we had a sports coupe with that color. We ended up getting the blue which she wanted.
The price tag seems a bit higher than what I would negotiate for but overall, I think it still is a reasonable price compared to other brands. Enjoy your car~!
  • joeg1joeg1 Member Posts: 18
Did Paramus Hyundai charge any fees (ex. document preparation) exclusive of the actual TTL? If so, how much?

Thanks and enjoy your new Sonata.
  • realccierealccie Member Posts: 3
    joeg1,

I am not sure about the nitty-gritty number details but all I know is I specifically told them that I want NOTHING coming out of my pocket to lease this car and they gave me that flat rate of $353 for 3 years lease.
If I go there next week to pick up the car and find something fishy, I will let you guys know.
  • bluesz2kbluesz2k Member Posts: 2
    I have a quick question.

When we buy new car from dealer, they charge title registration fee.

Is it same as the state tax which has the same standard or not?

If not, how much fee is reasonable?

    Thanks
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Title registration fee is different from state tax. Both are set by the government, so they are non-negotiable.

But what might be negotiable (hard to do though) is the "documentation fee". That's the fee dealers charge to process the paperwork on the car. Sometimes it's pretty small, like $50-75, other times it can be several hundred dollars. In some states the maximum fee is regulated by law. If that fee is large, you can try to negotiate it. But keep in mind your goal is the lowest price overall, including everything. So for example, maybe a dealer with a large documentation fee has the lowest overall price because it gave a larger discount off MSRP.

I got quotes from like 10 chicagoland dealers and I currently have a Black SE being ordered through Pugi Hyundai in Downers Grove. I am paying an OTD price of $23,999.95. He offered OTD at $24,300 and said he WOULD NOT budge on price, especially for black but he did by $300. I also asked him to throw in sunroof but he refused. I called and called other dealers and told them if they could beat this OTD price we would gladly go with them. No one would touch it and told me that they could not get me the black SE either. A dealer in Countryside did offer me the Harbor Gray SE for $23,300 i believe. But i REALLY want black so i didn't go with it.

Anyways. My black SE should be to the dealer by the end of the month. Im very excited! Feel free to email me with ?s. Kristabell24@aol.com

But they gave me 10500 for my 2009 sonata gls 23k miles, said had to "think about it".
    Can i get better deal?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
What equipment does the new GLS have, and what is the Kelly Blue Book trade-in value for your 2009 (based on condition and mileage)?
  • zatireszatires Member Posts: 39
A perfectly running 1 year old car with 23K miles is being traded in for a 1 year newer car, that will force the buyer to pay 10K to do so?

Not a very financially wise decision imo.

Better to wait until the 2012 models come out then trade. This way any initial quality bugs will be sorted out. Or even better to keep the 2010 for another 2 years then trade up. Bad financially to trade after a year and would've been better to lease if you only wanted a short time with the 2010.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do but financially, I'd keep the current ride.

I have seen posts on here that indicate there is a $1000 Hyundai to dealer incentive for 2011's. The dealer I talked to says it does not exist. Can anyone share with me how to find out for sure? Where did you get your information?

QUOTE I just got quoted $25750 + ttl(msrp 28400) at a dealer in ny. Is that a good deal?

So did you end up buying this car for that price?
It's a great price, especially now; here's what I mean:

One of the dealers who's been waiting to receive "my car" just told me this: the dealership owner just pulled all discounts from Sonata Ltds w/Nav, since they're so hard to get AND since there's such a high demand on them.

So unfortunately he will not be able to honor the price he quoted me (40 days ago).

He was very apologetic but said it's the same all over southern California: some dealers are selling ABOVE MSRP apparently, for hard to get colors/options.

Guess we missed our opportunity here in S.Calif.
I should have jumped at the Ltd with Nav that I was offered for $26100 recently. It was not the color I wanted, but ..... now the price seems to have jumped by over a thousand dollars, for ANY Ltd w/Nav.
  • kfdmedkfdmed Member Posts: 130
So to get any discount on a limited w/nav is good? everywhere?

I was quoted this on a limited w/nav and carpet matts ... black on black.

MSRP: $28,215 (this includes carpeted floor mats)
    Sale: $26,900
plus tax, doc fee & title

The wild car being the doc fee. It is a small dealer in the midwest so I think it will be reasonable.

Not really ready to buy but from what I have been reading here this is a pretty rare and sought after feature/color combo so I am considering pulling the trigger.

Was looking at new Maxima's and used Infiniti G35X's but the Sonata is substantilly less than the Max and about the same as a used G35X.

The 100/hp difference is why I am reluctant to go with the Sonata.
I probably should wait for the turbo.

    Thoughts?
  • jayriderjayrider Member Posts: 3,602
Wait for the turbo. Let things settle down a bit. Also check out the sonata's sister-- the 2011 kia optima. Different look but essentially the same car.
