I think a navigation package would be a nice option to have and I think the dash lights for all the various controls could be a little better integrated and uniform in color - the pale yellow/green isn't my favorite.
What dealer did you use in the Baltimore-Washington area? I live in Columbia and have been to Antwerpin. I' ve also seen Internet prices posted through Fitzgerald Auto Mall. Thanks. Bob.
I haven't tried any negotiations with Fitzgerald, but I'm seriously thinking about it within the next six months or so. Have a '93 Nissan Maxima that's still a good running around car, but I REALLY liked the Sonatas I test drove. We bought a Tucson at Antwerpin, and at the time I thought the deal was OK. But now I see where I could've done better. Oh, well, live and learn.
This is a big profit for the dealer, they send a low paid clerk to the DMV and they may be registering several cars at the same time collecting $299 for each.
Negotiate this fee. Don't get suckered by the phrase, "This is dealer policy."
We added a 10-year, 100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper Hyundai-backed warranty extension for $995.
FYI: At 4:00 PM yesterday Hyundai increased the cash rebate from $500 to $1,000 for V6 Sonatas.

That's great news. Enjoy your new car.
rebate for Hyundai financing. From 10/25 to 10/31. Make the GLS V6
very attractive this week.
Is it a big hassle? I checked their prices on 2006 GLS V6 and they
are way under invoice, 17062 + TTL. Best price I have gotten in Pa.
is 18300. This is a big difference. My concern would be insurance,
title, etc., not to mention service, since I would be more than
300 miles from Fitgerald in Gaithersburg. How would the Hyundai
service in Pa. treat me knowing I got the car in Md. Anyone have any
ideas on any of this?
Invoice with rebates is 17831. Any idea how Fitz is pricing at 17062?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really confused.
The shipping from MD to UT is what killed it for me. About $1,300 in a closed container insured.
Your local Hyundai dealer will provide service because it's a major revenue generator for them. However, they probably will not go "above and beyond" for you like they would if you purchased the car from them.
My strategy was to take the Fitz quote to my local dealer and give them a chance to compete against it.
-Ty
That has been exactly opposite my experience. I own two Elantras and took them both to the dealer from which I purchased them for a long time. But I finally got fed up with their incompetence and their poor attitude re customer service that I switched to another dealer for service, actually one that is closer to me. I have had much better service from them, not perfect, but I get the feeling they are at least interested in providing good service. Maybe they see an opportunity here: "He bought these Hyundais from another dealer, maybe if we treat him well he'll buy his next Hyundai from us." Just a thought.
Besides, if you buy a car from out of town, how does your local dealer know you didn't just move into town and started coming to them for service? Are they going to treat you poorly because you decided to come to them for service? I don't think so.

$22,236.26 Final Price
I wish I would have waited this week. I noticed that the rebates went up from $500 to $1000 on the LXs as well. Also, I wish I would have owned a Hyundai before to get the $1000 loyalty rebate. This would have brought the drive-out price to $20,736.26. Ohh well...it seems like I got a good deal anyways...any feedback???
Thanks.
In this case, Zen2 has already visited the PA dealers and received quotes. They know Zen2 didn't just move into town already owning a Sonata. Sounds like your experiences have been different, but the dealers I have purchased vehicles from have certainly given me special treatment, with freebies and car loaners when they didn't have too. They've worked hard to make me a repeat buyer. Dealer service is obviously going to vary depending on the management and workers, but in talking with the establishments I've patronized, they readily admit to providing extra service for people who buy vehicles from them.
Anyway, that's beside the point. My main argument was that Zen2 will still be serviced by the local dealers no matter where the car is purchased from, and Fitz has a good reputation for easy purchases at extremely aggressive rates.
-Ty
I'm already enjoying the Sonata. It's a great car...Hyundai really hit the nail on this one.
As for the extra in the rebate, I called my dealership to see if there is anything they could do for this. Hopefully, they can compensate me in some way for this change, but I'm not going to be holding breath.
-Ty
How do they make money doing this?
Your immediate response would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
First I will never pay a "Market Adjustment" and you are now in the Cam/Cord price range with similar equipment. This was really a turn off.
Has anyone run into this "Market Adjustment"? Thanks

As much research as everybody does, people should know that their isn't much mark up on these cars because of their tremendous warranty. So offering a low ball offer is usally countered with the price you are looking for.
You really need to consider checking out other Hyundai dealer websites like #1 Cochran in Pittsburgh. They will honor any written quote.
'05 Elantra GT w/ auto & pkg 8 (sunroof + ABS/TC)
'05 Tucson GLS V6 AWD
'06 Sonata GL 2.4 w/ auto
Daughter liked the Sonata best .. however, salesman told me that there is are very few Sonata 4 cylinders due to a strike in Korea. Any truth to that?
They also had a GLS V6 w/ no options with an $18,8xx tag hanging from the mirror .. in looking at Edmunds TMV (which, BTW, doesn't show the extra $500 rebate), it seems available for $18,548 ($1000 rebate + $1000 HMFC incentive).
Hard to believe that I'm considering a 235HP car for my 17 year old, but its only $1400 more than the 4 banger.
Thoughts?
If it is indeed going to be your daughters car, I would recommend the 4cyl Sonata. It's got all the safety equipment out there, and we all know how young drivers have a tendency to be a little less than safe from time to time. Forget the airbags for a minute. Stability control will assure that there is a much lower possibility of needing the airbags.
If you decide on the GL in the next 2 days, $16,500 if you finance w/HMFC should get it done for you. Its been a very slow month in the car business, and I'm certain that your dealer would love to get one more on the board this month. That should be about a net deal for them.
and avoiding hassle of getting down to Md. and transferring title,
etc. Price I got on a GLS V6, was a little over invoice, with 2000 in rebates,
came to 3495 off sticker. It was a tossup for 4 vs. 6 for me, until dealer said
they wouldn't discount the 4 as much, only a 500 dollar diff. I thought
the five speed auto, special tint on windows, dual exhaust, not to mention
the extra horsepower made the 6 much more attractive for 500 bucks.
And I was tired, didn't want the hassle of haggling over price of 4.
Now if I could just find a way to get comfortable in the driver seat....
but that is for another forum.
A little more investigation turned up 10 GL automatics at another dealer here in Denver, including 2 in Silver, a preferred color (the one we drove last night was the Dark Cinnamon, which was nice but not exactly what we were looking for).
My Saturn is loaded w/ leather, heated seats and sunroof, so I'd kinda like it back. While I could envision an LX w/ all the goodies parked in my driveway, I promised my wife that I'd keep the Saturn a good, long time when I bought it 3 years ago - only 25 payments left.
The payments on the Sonata should be pretty close to those I'm making on the Focus.
I'm assuming that the $16,500 number is after all the rebates (500 + 1000 HMFC). I'll give this other dealer a call and see what they have to say.
Will also have to negotiate the trade in value of the Focus. We'll see what happens.
invoice from Edmunds 18015
regional ad fee 500 *not shown on Edmunds website
subtotal #1 18515
financing rebate (1000)
consumer rebate (500)
subtotal #2 17015
profit 150
final total 17165
plus taxes and adjustment for trade in and down payment
So, basically $150 over invoice, which I can live with. I'll probably go in later today and have them take a look at my trade ... if those numbers are OK, then we'll probably have a deal.
If not, then I'll look into selling the Focus myself and see what kind of incentives Hyundai offers in November.
Seems like a great deal.
BUT.....
My daughter just called, and is thinking of going in a different direction than the Sonata. Her perspective is that if she is going to have this car for 3/5/7 years, she should get want she wants rather than the first car that 'goes fast enough'.
So, she wants to take a look at the Saturn ION, perhaps with the optional 2.4L engine (170HP).
Stay tuned.
Who is paying for the car plus taxes plus insurance? Any 17 year old kid should be happier than a pig in mud to have any brand new car.
I think most families would give the used car to the kid and either mom or dad would take the new car. (your used cars aren't exactly old clunkers, the oldest being a 2003).
Oh yeah, my kids, both grown up fine now, were boys. I forgot about the Daddy's little girl thing.
In late '65 I was almost 17 years old and my parents bought me a 1960 Ford Falcon. 3 speed manual shift on the column (talk about sloppy shifting), heater and radio (tubes had to warm up before the radio played--remember that?). The car had no tach, but it was wound so tight at 55 mph that I think the fastest I ever drove it was 65 for a short stretch. The car was pretty much maxxed at 55. No power anything, including steering or brakes. Cars had such things then, but my Falcon didn't. Anyway as a young kid, I was happy to have a car.
The cars I gave my kids were always older cars (with decent equipment for the mid-90's) so I didn't have to pay for collison coverage. If they smashed it up and the car was ony worth $1,000 to $2,000 I was ahead as compared to a higher priced car and paying hundreds for collision coverage.

Went for the financing to get the rebate. Plan to refinance early next week. Finance guy told us to wait 4 months before we refinance so the dealership would not get burned by Hyundai for customers not following through. Then charged us 9.8% on the paperwork after telling us it was 8.9%. The salesperson straightened him out because he had already sent the paperwork to his back at 8.9% and he had our signature at the higher rate. We figured we didn't care we were going to refinance anyway. Turns out what he did was illegal and he could have gotten really burned because did not have a signed a sheet with the 8.9% rate. Anyway, it got straightened out and we plan on calling our bank on Monday but I am looking forward to the customer satisfaction phone call from Hyundai.
Anyway, love this car so far. I have been driving around my suburban town in the rain and snow today and boy does it handle well. Already spilled coffee in it
You know you're from Massachusetts when you drive 45 minutes to New Hampshire to save $5 in sales tax.
Focus on the bottom line. I bought my car in FL, paid $1500-1600, after taxes & all fees, less than local CT dealer wanted. Yet, FL dealer's conveyence fee was $80 higher. Same 6% sales tax.
