I am also looking to buy a 2009 Sonata, please can you post the prices you paid for your Sonatas in Canada,it would be a big help,i think cars are grossely overpriced in Canada compared to the U.S. especially when both dollars Have been on par for a while now.
  • hickorychickoryc Member Posts: 25
Thanks for that Alamocity. Yes, but only Baytown Hyundai and they want $19,316. Do you know of one in the Houston area that is interested in selling a new Sonata as opposed to looking at the ones on their lot?
  • howard18howard18 Member Posts: 53
i know the North Hyundai in houston post on the newspaper $15,999 + TTL for the basis '09 sonata (manual transmission). You may get some luck from them.

    Purchased in New Hampshire:

Pearl White, 2009 Limited V6, $22700 including doc. fee. Buying process was easy. Only pain was to wait couple of days for the delivery as dealer did not have any Pearl White in stock.

The dealer; Nashua Hyundai was very nice and treated us very well. They gave us a loaner for two days while we waited for the car to arrive. There were better offers but not by much. We decided to go local as they treated us well.

The car is really nice. The interior is well designed and V6 is definitely worth it.
I am on my first tank of gas and on highway at 65mph, I see 31mpg.

Looking for a 2009 Sonata V6, sunroof, alloy wheels in Texas. What options did the $22700 you paid include? Were taxes included in this price? Is there one color that sells for less than other colors? thanks for any help.

A reporter is hoping to talk with consumers who bought or are thinking of purchasing a Hyundai. Please respond to ctalati@edmunds.com before Friday, May 16, 2008 with your daytime contact information.

Only option I got is Carpated Mats. Mine is Pearl White exterior which is $200 option. Any other color would have been $22500.

V6 limited is pretty much loaded. Leather, sunroof, upgraded audio, alloy wheels are all standard. Only significant options are Navigation ($1200) and Bluetooth ($300). Rest are small things like mats, cargo net, cargo tray etc.

$22700 for a V6 limited,we are really getting ripped off in Canada,Mrsp in Canada is $31,500,this makes me very mad  .
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
How can you be getting ripped off in Canada? You get so much there for "free" including healthcare. You really need to stop taking care of yourself, and cash in on the goodies. ;)

    Good luck

That's not suppose to affect the price of cars :confuse: .

We pay for our "free" health care with long waiting lists and higher taxes.

I just bought a new 2008 Sonata 4cyl loaded here in Canada for $7k below original MSRP.
The same model seems to be selling in the US for a further $6k less.

I previously paid $40 for the wholesale cost summary info but all it really told me was that the invoice/msrp markup was 8%. No info on dealer incentive or holdback.

I am 60 years old, single female and this is my first time to buy a new car. I don't want to get screwed but I know everyone has to make a living. Am I being naive if I think I can get a 2009 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl, sunroof , allow wheels and taxes and title in Texas for $20,000? I just started researching and found this wonderful message forum. Thanks. Appreciate any help I can get.

My sister-in-law is from Vancouver and she has said the same thing, but still thinks it's better than in the States. She now lives in Portland with my Brother and their 2 Daughters. I say no thanks. I'll stick with the plans that are offered by my wife and my employers. At least I get to pick my doctor and get in immediately. No bureaucrat telling me when and where to go to get a heart cath when and if I need it.

I don't know what dealer fees and state taxes are in TX but I would say you are pushing it. You may be able to get to $21500 out the door for a 09 GLS V6 auto.

The invoice on this would be $22829 plus you would have to purchase alloy wheels which would probably be another $600 or so. If you can get them to $1500 below invoice and then subtract the $1500 cash rebate you would be at $20429. Add your tax/doc fees/title....you would be close to $21500.
  • scoburknobscoburknob Member Posts: 5
Thank you soooo much. That helps me. My budget is $20,000. Could I get a 2008 Sonata with the same options 6 cyl, sunroof, allow wheels and be out the door for $20,000?
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
It may be difficult to find this combo as the 2008s are almost gone. However, if you can, you should be able to get it for about $2000 less or $19500 out the door.

Thanks again. I'll let you know how I do.

I was picking up my license plates on Monday, at the Renton, WA dealer I bought the car from {08 GLS V6}, and of course took a look at the 09 Limited in the showroom..... definitely an improvement in the interior, but, out the door, this car would probably have been 23k. Taxes here might be a bit higher than Texas.....

However, there were still several '08s on the lot. And it looked like some of these equipped with everything, could come close to your 20k figure. Maybe under.......

Good luck...... I sure like mine

    My credit isn't the greatest, as I've been bankrupt, got divorced, and didn't do much to reestablish credit during the last five years as I tried to keep my small manufacturing firm afloat {too much debt}

    Having paid off the machinery, and having my daily driver, a 94 Merc Sable, decide it was time to quit....... My thought was to get into a car without getting ripped up having to pay a premium for said car, or pay extortionist interest rate {a friend of mine paid 23% to get a repo'd Focus}

    It came down to an '07 Taurus rental return with everything, or the '08 GLS V6 (new} that I bought. Price difference was 6k. However, the Sonata is so much more car, can't be expressed in a few words...... {two different dealers}

With the 3k rebate, and the dealer discount, I paid $4500 less than the sticker. Price of car including the above, was $16,999. "Out the Door" with the taxes etc, was a bit of 19k. But all things considered, I feel pretty good about things.

If my credit had been excellent, I could have beat the interest rate {I got 11%}, and probably would have been in a stronger position to talk price. Considering my position, I think I did well.......

I just bought a 2009 Sonata GLS 4 cyl. automatic, with the power package (no sunroof) floor mats, cargo mat, and got it for $17,725 plus 2.75% sales tax and $16.50 title fee. $18,229 out the door. I also had to wait for the dealer to locate one and do the dealer trade. I pick it up Friday.
  • moocow1moocow1 Member Posts: 230
I'll just note that's about 1k higher than some people are paying. I think realistically you wanna look for 16.5-17k on a GLS with power package and 16.0-16.5k for a base GLS.
  • stockey1stockey1 Member Posts: 22
Boy,you guys have a much better price than us in Canada,if i could have your price ,i would buy right now.
  • hickorychickoryc Member Posts: 25
I'll drive to Decatur if I could get a '09 GLS I4 Auto with Popular package for $16.5 or even $17. The New Orleans area dealers want $18,500. Only found much lower quotes from World in N. Illinois, Towne in NJ, and Fitz in Tampa. Cannot justify putting +1,000 miles on new car + all the other expense.

Check out my message 4681 on getting competitive bids end of month. Towards summer the Mazda 6 08 value edition frequently is down to 16000 or less. Perhaps a 08 Malibu 20000 msrp for 18000 or less. Not a great price on the Malibu but just offering alternatives if bids on the Sonata don't show up in the 16's.

    Good luck

2008 Sonata Limited V6 with Sunroof and cargo + floor mats comes out to $20,100.00 + TTL (~$1,450 with 6.25% state tax). Anyone got better than this? Thanks.
  • moocow1moocow1 Member Posts: 230
Eh? Can't you just import, it seems quite legal to do so.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Good news for 2009 Sonata shoppers... looks like prices are coming down, at least for dealers short on 2008s. For example, I noticed the current Internet price at Towne Hyundai is now $2050 under invoice on 2009 Sonatas, before rebates ($1500 general, $500 loyalty). So a base GLS automatic would be $15,682 ($15,182 for Hyundai owners) before TT&L.

I also noticed Edmunds.com still has the TMV of the 2009 Sonata at sticker, before rebates. That doesn't reflect real-world pricing, so I'm not sure where Edmunds is getting their data. :surprise: In my area (Twin Cities), advertised prices on 2009 Sonatas start at $16k, which is well below sticker before rebates. And that's without any negotiating.

Patrick Hyundai, Schaumburg IL sent bulk email on the 16th, "0% APR on ALL NEW HYUNDAI". It would be interesting to hear from any readers of this forum who got that deal. Thirty minutes later, North Hyundai, Houston sent a similar bulk message with the phrase, "...right now Hyundai is offering 0% on the Sonata."
I called North. The internet manager replied that he thought it applied only to 2008 models, that his associate sent the email, and that he had 33 new messages in his inbox. He did not call back. :confuse:

$18,500 for '09 GLS with Package 3 (Popular Pkg + Sun Roof), mats, & mud flaps installed. A local (New Orleans area) dealer has orally agreed to this price, at least with Package 3. Towne in New Jersey is still quoting $1,000 lower. As the month progresses, the deals appear to be getting better. :)
  • leonidas1leonidas1 Member Posts: 9
There seems to be a price war going on between Towne and Stateline. Stateline is now at $2100 below invoice on all 2009 Sonatas on their website which is $50 below Towne's price. Plus, of course the $1500 consumer rebate and the $500 loyalty rebate.

You guys are making me sad about only getting around $1300 under invoice! Of course that's in california, and I haven't really heard about insane deals from this state.

I'm having trouble even getting the $1,300 (in Northern California). Who's offering $1,300 below invoice out here?
    Thank you
  • moocow1moocow1 Member Posts: 230
I got mine from Sunnyvale Hyundai. Also Doten Auto(awesome seller too) is probably around around $1k under invoice.
  • wanna_azzywanna_azzy Member Posts: 41
If you are sure this is the car you want, tell them you want the 10yr/100,000mile warranty included. It might already be there if the car has never been titled, but since it is not transferable, check it out. They should be willing to get it for you since it will be of little cost to them.
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Thats an OK price for a 08 gls 20000 auto (with the pop package) demo. For a manual trans or manual without pkg it is about 1000 or 1500 too high.

    Good luck

Is the $500.00 loyal customer rebate a dealership thing or an overall Hyundai rebate? if it is offered at all dealerships, do you know the requirements or is there a website that gives the details? thanks
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
    Go to hyundaiusa.com.

Click on "financing" and then select "special offers" from the drop down display.

This will show you national incentives. Click on your state (or state of intended purchase) to see rebates available from Hyundai in that state.

Owner loyalty rebates come & go from time to time. It is model specific, not across the board usually.
  • hickorychickoryc Member Posts: 25
A buyer not living near the East Coast will probably pay $1,500 more on the average. This amounts to an additional $1,000 depreciation since high-volume dealers will bring the average price paid down when future KBB and similar books place values for these as used vehicles. It almost makes one want to buy a Honda for the sake of much higher future trade-in value being almost assured due to their near uniform nationwide pricing. I said, "almost".
Afterthought: Maybe a train coach seat should be priced plus motels and 1300 miles on the new car factored in to see if it would really be worth it...probably not.

    Hello,

I am trying to buy a Hyundai 09 Sonata GLS I4 Auto with just basic options.

I have received couple internet quotes but so far, the best I received was $18,100 OTD (everything included) price.

I am sure I can come down more but any idea on what is the reasonable OTD price for Sonata 09 GLS I4s ?

By the way, I am in Houston area.

    Thank you.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
An OTD the door price includes state sales tax, title charge, dealer doc fee at the least. These total amounts can vary by $100s of dollars and possible over $1000. Therefore, when people ask for "what is a good OTD price", it really doesn't do much good.

Just ask for the straight sales price for the car. You can add in the additional fees for an out the door price if you have a calculator. If a trade is involved, get a price before the trade for comparison purposes. Then you can see what they are really giving you for your trade. If not, forget asking as the trade will muddy the water so much it would be impossible to compare. They could give you a great price on the new and lousy on the old or vice-versa.
  • moocow1moocow1 Member Posts: 230
Yep especially in california. The OTD price is freaking $1600-2000 more than the pre-TTL one :) 18.1k OTD isn't even bad here.

Is 23,800. a good price for the 2009 LTD with nav?
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
In my area, north east, that's not a very good deal. They're taking about $500 off MSRP. For your area it may be reasonable.
  • jlindhjlindh Member Posts: 282
Call the internet sales department at North Freeway Hyundai in Houston. Tell them what you want to pay and don't be surprised when they take it. I bought a 2008 Fully equipped Limited recently for $5800 off MSRP ($7200 off their inflated price with pin stripes and sealant). The 2008's are probably gone by now, so I'm guessing they'll be dealing on the '09s.
  • majordad05majordad05 Member Posts: 3
Thanks. What would be considered a good price for the LTD w/nav?
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
I can't tell you what would be a good deal in your area...depends on the local market.

In the northeast, Towne Hyundai is selling '09 Sonatas @ $3501 below invoice (including rebate), $4,001 for those who qualify for owner loyalty rebate.
  • 2002slt2002slt Member Posts: 228
I just checked Towne Hyundai's site. They're actually selling them for $101 under invoice (see this). If you add the rebates that are available everywhere, it's like $2,101 under.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Correction: the site shows $2101 below invoice plus $1500 rebate plus $500 owner loyalty rebate for those who qualify.
