If they do that again, I'd turn the engine on and leave it idling for a while maybe half way through.

Do you have batteries in them? Volume turned up on headphones?
.
Chrysler has done a sneaky thing. They have two separately shaped headliners, one for van's with factory DVD system and one without. They could have easily adopted the preferred shape for all vans but they didn't and I'm sure it's to cause difficulty with aftermarket installations.
Best buy units require a shroud to complete the job. They don't have it, and with this increased complexity I doubt their techs could install them correctly.
I found a shop that does it for dealers. He's competitent and offering a Rosen unit with lifetime warranty of vehicle but prob is he's 1500 bucks. 10" screen.
Email me back if you found options that work please.

Also who makes the DVD player?
Any help is mucho appreciated!
But...I have DVD-R that play in my generic (no name) DVD player in the basement.
Not sure that helps you much. You don't want to use an RW in the car if it's not closed/finalized because those typically only play in units that have record capability.
So that cuts it in half for you.

rear seat vents probably not. :confuse:
I just bought a Grand Caravan 2003 with DVD system. The dealer said that it does not come with remote control and headphones.
My question is. Does the Dodge include the headphones and remore control when you buy the car or not? I think the dealer is trying to rip me off.
Does anybody know anythyng about it?
Thanks,
Marcos
As far as I know, all DVD players from Chrysler came with remote controls. At least all that I have seen have the remotes.
The wireless headphones are another story. I got shafted by the dealer with mine. Told me it had wireless headphones but it does not. Because of that (and the tremendous factory conversion costs to wireless) I have developed an aftermarker wireless kit using RCA 900 MHZ headphones that would fit your van. The price is $200 and is relatively easy to install if you have basic mechanical skills.
If yours has the wireless headphones, they would most likely have the transmitter in the overhead (with DVD screen). It would be an IR (infrared) type. Chrysler also did offer a RF (radio frequency - - I believe 900 MHZ) unit that has the transmitter in the DVD player. I may be able to tell you if you have the wireless transmitter if you gave me the part numbers from the DVD and overhead (DVD screen). They have to be removed to get the numbers.

I have tried DVD-R, and DVD+RW but neither one have worked so far. The manual does talk about the supported formats. Based on the owner's manual all the DVD+/- formats (DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW) may or may not work :-o I will also try DVD-RW and DVD+R this week.
One option would be to convert DVD to SVCD/VCD format.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

The problem is when the DVD is in use, the sound is controlled solely with the radio,
so we can't listen to the radio while kids watch the dvd.
i know the new vans have wireless headsets that come with the radio
Is there an easy way to modify the existing system so that radio and dvd can operate separately?
Get the movie "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" because the sound track to that movie is really cool. Makes just listening to it tolerable.
At least until you find a more permanent solution. :-)

I still can't use the radio, as the DVD has taken over master control.
All this does, is save me the pain of having to hear the movie the kids are watching.
I would like to listen to the radio, while the kids are enjoying the DVD movie.
How can I accomplish this?
Hope this helps!

The dvd units' Audio is hardwired to the head unit by an auxiliary connector. the "CD" button on the head unit interchanges with the CD and DVD everytime your press it. if the kids have wireless head phones then they listen to the movie and you press the radio up front and youre set.
It did come with the remote, and the remote does have the icon for headphones.
I wonder if I purchased wireless headphones from radio shack, if your solution would work?????
I found that if I added a menu to the DVD when I burned it (using Intervideo WINDVD), it resolved the problem. It worked best with +DVD's.
I just recently had my caravan broken into and several items were stolen including both wireless headsets for the DVD system but not the remote. I noticed you were having trouble getting wireless headsets for your system, Were you able to get aftermarket headsets from radio shock or elsewhere allowing you to work with the stock DVD system?
I called the dealer and they want $170 to replace the headsets and remote. They are telling me that you have to buy it this way because it is specifically programmed between your system, remote & headsets and aftermarket headsets won't work. Personally I think that is a line of bull if you ask me. If I can find some programmable wireless headsets I think I could find the signal the system is transmitting.
Let me know if you found a solution to your problem and maybe I can solve mine. Thanks!
It did come with the remote, and the remote does have the icon for headphones.

No it will not. Go back and read earlier posts. The icon for the headphones is not used (says so in the instructions) in this model.
You have 3 options as far as I know. Not sure for exactly which years they apply to.
1. for 2004 and 2005 models (not sure if it is doable for older units - - but may be), you can replace the DVD player with Mopar model 05093530AA (single disc) or 04685932AC (6 disc) and purchase the corresponding headsets (04685936AE). This is a RF system. Never seen this used, so new is proabably the only option (probably around $600 total). With this system the wireless transmitter is in the DVD player.
2. For 2003 and older (I believe this is also doable with newer models), you can replace the radio with a RBU model with rear seat audio. This system is also an RF system. I have seen these used for around $350 plus headphones. The wireless transmitter is in the radio.
3. My solution is an aftermarket wireless system modified to fit the Mopar DVD. Have one in my 2005 Caravan and it works great. Have to start the DVD through the radio, and then switch to wireless. I have all the pieces to make one more kit for 2001 thru 2005 Caravan. Price is $200.

Hope this helps.
you might have got me confused with another poster. while i do have a DVD system with wireless headphones i have never had issues with it. Any aftermarket wireless sets (IR) will do. I am told Radio shack sells them. I would agree with you about the dealer comment. BS if you ask me. some of the dealers even sub contract the DVD install.
We are joining the Town and country family when we pick our 01' van up next week. It has a VCR not a DVD.
Number of questions.
1. How easy is it to change this to a DVD? and how expensive?
2. How does the video system work, Is the volume connected to the radio speakers or should it have some wireless headphones that I read about in other posts?
3. There are two headphone jacks in the centre console with composite jacks as well, there is a gap as if something is broken off with a volume label. Note sure is there is supposed to be some form of volume control knob that is broken off. Does anyone know?
Any info will be appreciated.

You can load any combination of 6 disks cd or dvd. IF you want to play a DVD and listen to the radio in the front you CAN do it. All you need to do is push the headphone icon on the remote, it will then appear on the radio display near the time. Now all you need to do is push the mode button to FM or AM and the radio will play, of course if you want to fade the sound to the front speakers only. By doing this you will be able to listen to music while your kids watch their favorite flik.
I still feel the reception on the radio is medeocre at best on the T&C.
