Was it difficult to put those 4 big bolts back
in? Do you have to use bolts supplied with the
bars? Where do you put the bracket, like under the
frame bracket and the big spacer? I look at the installation instruction and I'm kinda confused.
Just afraid that after I remove the big bolts I
would have a hard time to mount them back in due
to possible shifting of the cab relatively to the
frame brackets. Your info will be very helpful
to me.
Thanks,
Tung
We drove over tonight to drool on it and much to my dismay, it has arrived never mind without the transmission cooler, they missed the trailer package all together!
The dealership was closed by the time we got there, so I couldn't talk to anyone about it, but I will be making a point of dropping in tomorrow.
It should be very interesting to see how they're going to fix this one.
Of the other trucks that they got in today, two of them *did* have the trailer package, and they both *did* have the transmission coolers in place.
I'll let you know what happens
but I can't find an aux. trans. cooler. The power steering cooler is there on the left in front of the radiator and the trans lines do go into the side of the radiator as usual . Any one else with a chevy look?
26andrew1 - What kind of manual seat is having the track problem - bucket or bench (or both)
Does anyone know where to connect a power wire for an add on stereo amp? Is there a way to get a wire through the firewall ?
Has the transmission cooler. Built in Pontiac 11/98
Not hard to get the bolts in at all. Just remove the factory bolts, put the washers onto the bolts and insert them thru the bracket then up into the hole. When you remove the bolts the metal washer looking thing with the rubber shock absorber(?) may come off with the bolt. No problem Just put it over the new bolt last, just before you push the bolt thru the hole up into the cab.
I have the extended cab so there was no "spacer tube" in the kit. The "spacer tube" comes in the regular cab version. If you look at the parts list it shows this. I assume that the old bolts would be too short and would not work or I am sure that Westin would have saved a buck or two and had us re-use the factory ones.
Hope this helps. If you have more questions let me know. I Installed them when I was alone one day in about an hour. It is not that bad.
the bench seat is. But the bucket I think is the same design just middle seat is missing and a console is put in. But not 100% sure on this.
spacer was referenced as shock-absorber by you.
I'll try it and let you know how it goes. THanks
again. Tung.
Only logged about 130 miles, got 9.2 mpg. A little better than my buddies F-350 SD CC 4x4 V10, but his truck weighs about 2,000 lbs more. Runs along just fine at 7,000 ft, 70 mph, in 4th gear at about 3,200 rpm.
Pretty happy with the sub 300 cu inch motor.
Did get some occasional ping on reg gas. Will run premium when I tow in the future.
There is an updated software fix for the powertrain control module prom, listed as (3) part numbers.

enter your VIN #, and get a list of all the available software updates for your specific model.
Happy with driveability though - hope it doesn't screw anything up.
Headed to Buena Vista, Co with a bunch of coworkers second weekend of June for an enduro. Let me know if you wanna come raft the Brown's Canyon or race or mtn bike with us......
I have a 99' Silverado 5.3 auto with 4,000 miles. I occasionally notice a slight ticking sound when it is lugging along at 1000 - 1500 RPMs under a load. It sounds something like a minor exhaust leak or vac. leak. I took it to the dealer and they said they thought it was just the normal sound of the injector pump. Does this seem right?
Nevertheless, I saw 4 new 2500's get unloaded from the hauler.
1.) Some had leather seats, 6.0L, 4x4, ext cab short beds, and regular cab long beds.
2.) The 1500's that came off the truck were Z85's but appeared to have some of the Z-71 goodies like stabilizer bar and jounce bumpers. If they shorted your transmission cooler, maybe they slipped in something else?
3.) None of the trucks were tied down with the nylon lash straps as a previous post had stated was the proper procedure. Instead, frames were all just chained conventionally to the hauler. Might as well send them all to the alignment shop now, and spare the owners future "steering pull" visits.
I saw info on 2000 models in "Open Road" magazine for summer of 99. Suburban and Tahoe models are getting coil spring rear suspension. Also has a small article on the new heavy duty 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. It shows a crew cab with shot box.Side air bags are also on the list of new items. These trucks really look good for 2000. Look out Ford!
Folks like Markbuck and Quadrunner out to be on GM's payroll for the great expertise and the amount of information they bring to the board.
I've had my Silverado 1500 LT for three months or so, and about 2400 miles. The truck has proven itself to be 'like a rock': Solid and squeak free.
I get a low rumbling sound at low speeds, probably drowned out at street speeds. Dealer says it may be an item that needs lubricating. The headliner behind the drivers' seat, by the window, was not tucked in properly at the factory. Other than that, wow! (what a truck!) The 5.3L got a little over 20 MPG back from Lake Tahoe last weekend. Smooooth as silk! Really can't find fault with this vehicle.
As I have mentioned before a rear slide door would be more useable. I have seen a Sienna the had the engineering, with a grove/guide along the side of the body that didn't take much from its' good looks. No question in my mind, it is the next natural evolution in the 3 (and 4) door pick-up. Makes sense if the utility of the vehicle will be enhanced and engineering/safety issues that result from the rigidity/support present stressed members can be answered economically, and the buying public accepts the solution without having the 'mini-van image' destroy the market.
To anyone is fooling with the idea of buying a Silverado in its' present state of dress: You're in for a treat!
The front fenders on my Silverado are steel.
Maybe you are looking at the fender flares.
They are molded plastic.
Mike
is making some wind noise which sounds like a
little snoring or snipping sound. Is it the
engine ping sound we're talking about? If it is,
what can I do to improve it? Thanks for any advice.
An update on the wheel balance. The dealer, after almost two days, figured out that one of the tire
had a heavy spot, so they dismounted the tire, flipped it (bringing the inside-wall out) and that
seemed to improve the vibration problem substantially. However, I still can feel little
vibrations; will keep an eye on this wheel.

The fenders on my Sierra are steel. However, if you look on the inside of the fender up near the windshield there seems to be some sort of lining on the inside of the fender that looks like fiberglass. It could be there for additional support. The fender itself is definitely made of steel.
It's not the "snoring" or sound of wind. It's more of a metallic "clinking" or "ricochet" that is heard when the engine is under a bit of strain, or you are lugging up a slight hill, towing, or hauling. Even sounds a bit like a Ping (tm) putter if you are familiar with golf. If you have it, it will be barely noticeable, unless you have the windows up, the fan and radio down. It's most likely heard between about 35-50 mph. The owners manual, under the section on gasoline grades states you don't have to worry about it if you hear a bit of it. If you have it, it is a sign the engine is not happy. But since GM is offering a fix, it's worth listening for.
Note it is NOT in the radiater
the fenders sure feel like glass and look like from the back.. going to give them the "magnet test" today!! i don't mind if the are glass.. one less rust problem!! I'll let ya know what i find out!!
A 'crackle' noise is close....
Getting my computer udated with the "new calibration to address various drivability concerns including spark knock (ping), hesitation, and false dtc p0121" today. Driving 300 miles down to 1,000 feet elevation and back to 7,000 ft elevation this weekend. Will let you know how drivability and fuel economy are affected with the new software.
Quad, rode the first several years of Collegiate Enduro, took a few years off, and have ridden it the last 3. Overalled the B rider group in 1997 and got bumped up to the A division. Not too many trophies since then competing against all the young A riders. Turn 40 next year and will finally compete in the over 40 A class. Hope for trophies. Know Mike Simpson a little, we sorta recognize each other, he doen't own the KOA anymore and they kicked our group out this year. Got to race against Malcolm Smith in the Taylor Res area (Crested Butte National) about 10 years ago. He spanked me as a 50 yr old man (when I was 30)....and was still fresh enough after the race to sign autographs for an hour.
Planning a week or two trip to Taylor Reservoir or Summit Co for later this summer.
I posted last week that they had somehow managed to "forget" the trailer package on my factory ordered truck. I didn't get (publicly) upset about it, but rather waited to see what the dealer would do after I pointed out it's absence. They put on a Class III hitch, the factory standard harness, and an aftermarket transmission cooler.
As a result of the omission being their fault, I was not charged for the trailer option (in the words of the salesman).
The truck itself it great. Very tight, no squeaks, rattles or pulls. I only have about 200 miles on it (325 kms), but have nothing to complain about yet. I love this truck.
This truck is simple to work on. I guess that's why so many owners do.
Drove to Phx and back. No change in drivability, fuel economy, but ping is substantially reduced.
Greasing - got two fittings on the steering linkage that I couldn't get to. Will try to grease it with the steering at full lock next time or install 90 degree zerk fittings. Any other ideas?
At 4,000 miles, no real problems other than slight ping and pinion seals failing. Pretty happy, but it is just a vehicle to haul me around. Love the vinyl seats.
you just had? Is it an update for all engine
size of only for some specific engine size? I
have 4.8L. Thanks.
Tung
Also considering pewter.
Thanks!
I have Indigo blue and it is the sharpest color
in my opinion when kept clean.
Otherwise, Light Pewter Metallic is good also
if you do not keep your vehicle clean since this
color shows the dirt the least of all the colors
available. Your choice: Great looks or looking clean?
Ii have a Pewter truck, and sure, it is a boring color, but the other choice I had was black, which really looks great, but I couldn't see myself washing it on a ladder EVERY DAY!
I just don't want to wash it every day! There's also pewter there with graphite leather. Also very sharp. I need to make a decision!
Sticky throttle? Does it feel like the throttle is binding when driving at highway speeds, let off the throttle and then step back on the throttle? I had this problem. First time the dealer adjusted the throttle body plate. Cured it for about a month. The next time I took it in for the binding problem, I ended up with a new throttle body. No problem since.
Get the throttle body replaced under warranty. It only gets worse.
1. Wind noise at the passenger rear window.
2. Horn sometimes doesn't honk.
3. window switch for drivers side sticks when trying to roll up.
Anyone else have similar experience?
I installed a fold-a-cover which seemed to improve my mileage.
