any improvements, change in style, horsepower, price. ETC.
Excellent performance, held speed limit in most all places. The neat thing about this gas motor is that I can use any of the top three gears at most highway speeds.
Fuel economy for the first 600 miles of the trip, with average speeds from 60 to 70 mph, towing over one 10,500 ft pass was 10.5 mpg.
My buddy towed the travel trailer home, so I ran back to AZ with just a full long bed, running the AC most of the way, and I finally got the 18 mpg as advertized by the EPA.
Temp gauge never moved off 200, whether I was running downhill or uphill at 4,500 rpm in second gear. My LT245/75 tires worked great at speeds up to 90 mph.
I am extremely pleased with my short stroke Silverado. Now, if that dang pinion seal would just stop weeping.....
PS. Did great the first 105 miles in the Collegiate Peaks reliability enduro until I got lost 2 miles from the finish and DNF'd. Dooh! Had two newbie riders with us, one ended up with a face puncture and 11 stitches, the other (14 yr old) missed a turn and rode his KDX into 5 feet of water in a beaver pond. His dad caught it on video. They both claim that they will finish next year's race......
Switched to 91 octane, ping gone. In the future, will run premium when towing, 87 octane when not.
Z82 Trailering Special Equipment package which Includes 7-lead wiring harness and HD auxiliary transmission cooler and found out the transmission
cooler is missing?
Does anyone know what GM is doing about this? The dealer never mentioned it was missing.
Seems to me I paid for it and it should be on the truck.
thanks
Ordered my Truck Two days ago! A Y2K, LS, 3/4 ton, ext cab, SB, 4X4, 6.0L, Auto, 3.73, Autotrac, Locker, Trailering Equip, and other misc goodies. Still have time to change my order and would like to find out if anybody knows the new colors for 2000, Also what's the fuel mileage on the 3.73 vs the 4.10. If the 4.10 isn't that much worse I might change to it.
The 4.10 is quick and fun to drive. You migh lose 2 or 3 MPG but its well worth it !
But what you have to keep in mind is they are an all new design. Any resemblance to the old 350 (or 327) is just coincidental.
The new engines are related to the engines in the Corvette, Firebird and Camaro Z28, and benefit from extensive development on those platforms. They have been adapted for truck applications with cast iron blocks, and 6-bolt, cross-bolted mains. They have revised valve placement with equal length intake runners, and a revised firing order.
The bottom line is a new engine family that in general achieves all things at once over their predecessors, better economy, power, and smoothness, quieter.
But they ain't the old 350 if you are into nostalgia. But you can still get those for a while longer in the C/K series trucks.
of torque vs 335lbs in the old 350 on the 6.0 you get 355lbs of torque !
rear is One Nice Ride
after my 96 5.7 this thing
hauls! I had similar mods
on the 5.7 but there is no
comparison to the 6.0 !
My first mod was the AirAid cold air induction,>>Really improves throtle response, sounds Awesome too! then the HPPIII,Dual 40 Series Flowmasters, I ended up flying to Florida but MPG is improving gettin 11city 14 highwy
Sylvania part # 3157
2for5bucks at AUTOZONE easy to install in about 30 seconds
I have 374.1 hours @ 5536 miles so my average speed is 14 mph
Thanks!!!
Darn!
In other news, the dealer neglected to add the extra capacity air cleaner to my order. Is this something I should care about (i.e. should I add it later) or is the standard air cleaner ok for city use?
Richard
Rumor has it the 4-door model will be running late not sure how late.
Seems that they have all the bugs out,at least in the one I purchased.
THANKS
J.D.
You can alaways get better aftermarket shocks Edelbrock IAS or Bilstein
Or that strange noise that seems to be coming from under my dash that sounds like something leaking.
I have a 1500 Ext Cab Z71 step-side with the 5.3L. I think it has every option that was available
The Vortec 8100 8.1 Liters with 450Lbs of Torque! 490 cubic inchs of raw power coming 2001 3/4 and 1-ton trucks and Suburbans

Sounds like a nice truck - Yes, the deflector is the source of the
noise - see topic 689 for more info on this.
It comes from the rubber on either side (up-down direction) of the
windshield - I used Black RTV under the moulding to make it go away -
worked great. Don't worry about the Silcone v.s Urethane debate - it
only matters if BOTH materials go on "wet" at the same time and try and
cure . . .
hope this helps
Hope my luck holds out. I will be towing a 8000 lb (wet) 5th wheel. Plan to make my first trip next week on some pretty serious hills. 5% to 8% grade. Let ya'll know how it does.
Also I heard that gear ratios play a large part in 0-60 pickup... if i want a quick start should i go with a 3.43 rear axle ratio or the 3.73.
