Make sure the lug pattern from the Camry to the '6 is the same, or the wheels won't fit on the Camry.

I can also tell you that your fuel economy is gonna drop. I went from the same size tires on my Jetta (for cost of ownership reasons) to 15s, and my fuel economy increased 2-3mpg on average. Also, I use my car for commuting mostly (33K in 16 months), and I couldn't see replacing 17s every year with the way I drive.

In a previous post I said that I thought the 6 looked to plain w/o the sport package. After looking at strech's new wheels, I think that is the wheels that make the rest of the car seem much more dramatic.

Not believing that the speedometer could possibly be correct on our 6s, I had a police officer friend of ours check it with his radar unit. The speedo was right on! Why the doubt? Because this little car makes 65 mph feel like you're walking. 85-90 mph is the "natural" cruising range. Definitely looks like a Valentine One is needed. Too bad it isn't offered as a "built-in" option. Folks, this is a great car!
  • cookie01cookie01 Member Posts: 369
I know there are archived radar detector forums...
But I have to say this is the FIRST car I've ever even considered equipping with a radar detector.
The good ones are spendy... but I have a birthday coming up! heheheheheh....
Still, kyjd is right, this car just really wants to move.
  • skyrayskyray Member Posts: 156
Yep, I offered to let my wife drive my 6s to work today. She declined, saying she was afraid she'd to too fast on a route she knew so well. :-)

Our Saab has a feature that lets you set a 'beep alarm' if you're traveling too fast. I have ours set to 80, I think. Boy, I wish the 6 had this! At the 40mph speed limits around town, I feel like I'm crawling! Very little sense of speed. (Again, particularly compared to the Miata, which felt like it was going 90 at 65...)
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
I bought the wal-mart special $40 Whistler detector the day after an Arizona DPS car offered to calibrate my car. Since then, it has saved me from at least two more of these unwanted calibrations. However, I wish I had made the purchase before my $450 calibration. I still say I wasn't going "that" fast. :-(
  • stretchsjestretchsje Member Posts: 700
...is a bad thing. I hate that. This is a sports sedan, no? It should feel fast.

I'd rather go 45mph but feel like I'm going 75mph than go 75mph and feel like I'm going 45mph.

Ever wonder why SUVs tailgate and drive so fast? I'm sure there are lots of reasons, but one is likely lack of perceived speed. You're high up, and you feel slow and safe compared to the cars around you.

I hate that feeling- it makes fun driving harder to obtain within safe (and legal) limits.

Have anyone seen or can post a picture of the keys that come with the car? I know that is pretty silly but I haven't been able to see the remote yet and I am curious what it looks like. Also, for people with a manual tranny, does reverse have a block so you don't try to shift into it by accident, I know my friends Protege5 doesn't have one and he needed his gear box replaced because he accidently try to shift into reverse at 50 mph. Thanks.

Does anyone have a diagram/picture of the fuse box in the 6? I'm looking for an open 12V connection that I can use to hard wire my Passport 8500. I have this setup in my Audi now, and it's great having all the wiring tucked away out of sight (plus it turns off when you shut off the car). I'd like to be able to set it up the same way when my 6 finally gets here.
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
both power ports in the 6 shut off with the ignition switch. I'd actually prefer to have one remain on for charging my phone and the occasional cooler usage, but oh well.
  • vocusvocus Member Posts: 7,777
I know what you mean, I hate that about Japanese cars. Does the '6 have a power port in the trunk? That would be more convenient for running a cooler, I would think...

So someone said the new Mazda website is up and running, and it is. But I have to confess, the option package algorithms must have been derived by NASA. I need a PhD to figure out what I can get.

I mean depending on the color (both exterior and interior), it limits which options I can pick? For instance, with black cloth I can't get a sunroof or ABS on a 6i? I tried it with beige cloth and it said that I can't get a sunroof with ABS? What the heck is that? They need to explicitly state what is possible. I spent 20 minutes trying to configure the car I want and have realized that it's not possible to have it.

I honestly can't believe that one of the world's largest car companies can screw up options package selection as badly as this.

I apologize for the rant, but this is unacceptable. No wonder that CEO got fired.

Email them, Email them, Email them about the options. I have. :)
  • edberg_dcedberg_dc Member Posts: 23
Thanks for the email I certainly will. I checked again and it said that for the 6i I selected that I am required to get both the Premium and Sport Package. So apparently I will have a schizophrenic car with both 16 and 17" wheels.

    What a disaster.

There's a picture of the keyless remote controller in this eBay auction:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item- =2406939621&category=33723

(Note: This is not my auction. I just ran across it when searching for cool Mazda 6-related stuff.)
  • choppermakerchoppermaker Member Posts: 31
Does this mean programming the remote to interface with a specific vehicle (ie, yours) or does this mean there are additional features that can be programmed into the remote (like windows up/dwn, automatic lockouts, etc)?
  • vocusvocus Member Posts: 7,777
It means the remote itself has to be programmed into the car. I don't think there are any special features.

I email them yesterday, here's their response:

"I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

In regards to your e-mail, the website configurator is correct at this
time. Please understand consumer feedback is always very important to
Mazda. We are presently working to add more combinations in April. In
the meantime, please keep in mind that our Product Planning Department
is working with the limitations of a complex manufacturing environment.

Rest assured I have documented your e-mail suggestions for our
corporate record. These records are continuously being reviewed by our
Product Planning Department in an effort to provide only the highest
quality products to our customers. I have also forwarded a copy of your
e-mail comments directly to those who make the MAZDA6 product
    decisions.

Please check back with us next month for possible combinations to the
configurator. If I can assist you further at this point, please let me
    know."

So just email them, they do listen.

redkey1: The 6 without the sport package looks much better in person than pictures. The photos don't pick up the clean muscular lines of the car and the GFX hide them. The style IMO will age very well in the same way the german cars do. The 17" alloys are a must though. I've added a lip spoiler and it goes with it perfectly. Tomorrow I'm putting in a sports grille and hopefully that will complete the look.I don't know about anybody else but that chrome mustache is starting to annoy me, don't think chrome goes well with this car because it looks too sleek, chrome looks better on luxery cars IMO.

I have the same problem staying under the speed limit. This car just seems to beg to get pushed and I'm still breaking it in so it's agony not being able to punch it. I think it's a good thing that the car is faster than it seems, it makes you have better response times, kinda like Formula 1 drivers see the road at 200 MPH the way we see it at 60 MPH.

Dinu; I'll try to get my brother-in-law's digital camera and post some pictures of my 6 with both the lip and the grille.

Too late -- I've lost interest. I first drove a 6s AT (I want MT) right after Christmas, and cannot 1. find the car I want, or 2. get any dealer to agree to order it. They all say (lie?) that it's too difficult to order at this time. So.

I drove an Accord Saturday, and it's sweet. I'm probably going to buy it this weekend. And, according to the new Consumer Reports auto edition today, its reliability is right up there with Hyundai!
  • johnclineiijohnclineii Member Posts: 2,287
Enjoy that Accord. I am still siriusly waiting on a 6s! :) I will drive a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP in the interim...if that stirs my fancy, Mazda lost a sale to me due to the NO AFTERMARKET AUDIO plasticanium dash...

If not, I will wait til this fall, when hopefully Sirius will be optional and my Impala will still be running (then with probably 150,000 miles)...

With living in the Mid Atlantic area I am always concern how a car will handle in all type of weather: rain, snow, sleet, or a nice sunny day. Does anybody have comments on opinions regarding how the 6 is in both good and bad weather.
  • tchootchoo Member Posts: 93
I dropped by a dealer (Wellesley Mazda) yesterday to check out the 6. Didn't have time for a test drive since I was on my way to an appointment, but when I asked them about custom orders they said they could order me any combination I liked. No fuss at all. They said it would take 4-6 weeks.
  • miata10aemiata10ae Member Posts: 90
I had a similar experience with a dealer in San Diego who said was willing to order a 6s MT for me. We agreed on the price and everything and I even put down a $500 deposit. Next day they called and said that they couldn't order the car with the configuration I wanted. Then, they said they would call Mazda to ask if they would accept that configuration. I waited for a week and never got a response from them. I called back but they were bouncing me around between their salespersons, sale manager, and sales dept. Long story short, I ended up getting my deposit back and went to another dealership who happened to have the car in their upcoming allocation.

"The photos don't pick up the clean muscular lines of the car and the GFX hide them."

Not sure what you mean by this.

The GFX hide the muscular lines on the bottom of the car?
  • aromasaromas Member Posts: 314
mrblonde:IMO the GFX takes away from the sleek profile of the car, makes it seem fatter. Kinda like putting a big spoiler and side skirts on a Corvette(not that it looks like a vette) it just doesn't look the same. I like a cleaner look and don't think the GFX adds that much to the car and the base version is beautiful in itself(with 17" alloys) especially compared to it's competitors.

richn2: I drove for about an hour in a mini snow storm on Saturday and found the car to be great in maintaining control in turns and stopping. The traction control only came on once(pushed it a bit just to see if it would come on actually) and this is with the 17's. There was a little bit of wheel spinning accelerating on inclines but I was still impressed and felt just as confident as I did with my 1998 Legacy which is saying a lot. Of course the tires are new so we'll see what happens next winter with a few miles on them. The car just seemed to hold the road regardless of the conditions.
  • alcjewalcjew Member Posts: 173
Vocus: The other power port is in the center console at the lower level storage area. The center console has dual level storage. I can post pics of how it the dual storage looks or visit your local Mazda dealer.

r2s2: Where do you live? If you live close to the New england there is a dealer (Sentry West Mazda, Shrewsbury, MA) that I placed and order for a grey 6s MT w/ sprt pkg back in Feb, but canceled. Because I fortunately found another dealer within the state that had just received a black 6s MT loaded and bought. I almost bought an Accord, but after checking the Honda Accord owner's board, it seems like they're having reliablity and quality problems, lousy customer service. I had a guy parked next to me at the mall the other day with an '03 4 dr EX MT. We checked each others car and he said he wished that he would have waited to buy a 6s, because he liked the sleeker 6 look and was not able to get 6 cyl with the 4dr. He said compared to the 6, his EX looked bland especially the rear.

richn2: The 6 handles great in the snow & rain, even with the Michelin Pilot tires on the snow. Just last week we had about 8" of snow and it drove without any problems on the uncleared roads and highway. Also credit the standard traction control on the 6s for icy roads.

Does the S Plan price show up on the sticker? I am waiting for my 6s to be shipped (it's been 10 wks) and I thought that is wait the salesman told me. Thanks.
  • cookie01cookie01 Member Posts: 369
Someone on here actually works at a Mazda dealer. He'd be good to ask.... but I was told that this early in production I would not be able to order a M6s the way I wanted.

I knew Mazda made the car the way I wanted, I'd seen them in the inventory of other dealers (but wrong color)... And I asked my dealer if he could just order a car the way I wanted. He said his inventory came direcly from Mazda and they were only allowed to "ask" for a specific car at this time, no guarentee they'd actually "get" that car.
Ultimately I just kept checking dealer inventories at "area" dealers until I found the car. It took me only three weeks. It would have taken WAY longer to wait for my dealer to do this for me. I found later they weren't looking at all, they just were going to wait around until they got something close on the lot... sigh.

Still had the new car stickers on it on the side window. There are snapping them up here in Jersey. I expect to see more of them. I hope Mazda surely does improve their option packages in April. It sounds like Mazda is losing a sale here and there because either customers don't want to deal with screwy option packages or can't find the car on the lot they want. I am happy people went to other dealers and found the car that had the option packages they wanted. Some dealers can just be a pain in the butt! About oredering cars why is Mazda being like they are? If I was a car salesman I would just want to make a sale regardless if the car was on the lot or had to be ordered.
  • skyrayskyray Member Posts: 156
It's not Mazda, it's apathetic dealers. Mazda WILL let you order a car in any of their available equipment combinations.

In fact, about a month or two ago, someone from MNAO was asking on Mazda6Club.com for the names of dealers who were refusing to order Mazda 6's for people, so they could address that with the dealers.

If I was mistreated or lied to by a Mazda dealer, I'd be sure to email Mazda at musa@mazdausa.com. The company does pay attention to its email. And you know from their emphatic "please put all 'excellents' on our dealer survey" spiels after you buy a car that dealers are concerned about their relationships with Mazda.

Anyone have any pics of the Sepang Green color car yet? A REAL car either bought or on a dealer's lot, not from a brochure.

hey guys just got my 2004 mazda6 V6 GT. And was just wondering if any of you had one and what you thought of it.I personally love the car it handles great, i love the interior and has lots of power to pull me around. I have drove a 2003 mustangGt alot cause my mother owns one. I think for power comparison between the two the mustang only has about 20 horse more and i dont find that it is all that much more powerful. But as for the handling i find that the 6 handels alot better around the corners and the ride is quite and smooth.

About how long after you purchase does the "dealer Survey" show up?
I flew to the dealer where I purchased my 6. Part of the deal was that they'd pay for the flight. I've not received that check yet (big surprise). Yesterday I called the salesman and said I'd slam him on the survey if I didn't get the check before the survey came!!!
He said he'd call me right back, and he DID (very concerned he was...) to say they'd not entered the $$ amount on the check but were doing it right now and that I should have it by Friday. (we'll see.)
But I mean it on the survey. My buying experience was VERY good... only bad mark would be the car wasn't very clean inside (I made them wipe it down before I left the dealer). But if I don't get my check I'm very willing to cry holy heck!

By the way, those of you in northern or muddy climates, I highly recommend the Mazda all-weather floormats. Well worth the $60. Very well made -- thick, black rubber -- and they look pretty good. And after seeing the gunk that's accumlated on them after having my 6s for 1.5 weeks, I'm really glad I don't have the carpeted mats down.
  • mazdamarlamazdamarla Member Posts: 350
Is there any way us "regular Joes" can get that Mazda catalog/brochure thing that I saw at my dealership's waiting area? It was like a little mini-magazine about the 6 and Mazda.

And no, I'm not talking about the Mazda6 full-color multi-page brochure. I already have one of them.
  • mpiatekmpiatek Member Posts: 68
I just ordered my car this week, and the dealer didn't give me any problems at all. They estimated 6-8 weeks for delivery, and said they would let me know when they had a delivery date. How long does it usually take to get a delivery date? I figure if I don't hear from them by next week, I'll just call them up.

I'm not sure about the S-Plan pricing showing up on the sticker, but I've heard that it should. I ordered my car with a PIN from Ford's X-Plan, which I'm told is the same as Mazda's S-Plan, so hopefully everything will come through okay. The dealer told me that the S-Plan price would be within a couple hundred dollars of invoice.

too bad....if a piece of audio is going to decide what u ride....

Anyway, I saw the leather versions today, beige and black.

Black: does not look nice & soft.
Beige: looks nice, but the silver center dos not go well with the beige dash. They would be better of putting the black centre with beige.

    so what are my options?
    I don't like cloth...too rough & hard.
I would like the mazdapseed cloth however.

The black leather ain't that great.
The beige looks good, but the silver centre kills it.

    Hmmmmmm.....
  • ruefusruefus Member Posts: 254
S-plan does not show up on the sticker.

It is on the invoice that the dealer gets.

If you must know now - let me know. I've got a document that provides S-plan pricing broken out by option. I can put an email together so you can calculate what you should pay. Mine came out to the penny.
  • mazdamarlamazdamarla Member Posts: 350
You could order cloth seats and have Heater/Leather installed by the dealer. When I talked to one of the dealers I've been in contact with, she told me it would be completely customized, whatever color or design, etc. that my little heart desired. And the heater control they put in dealer-installed as a Hi/Lo setting instead of just On/Off that is stock from Mazda. Might cost a bit more, but you could get exactly what you want.
  • clemulusclemulus Member Posts: 27
Would/Could a dealer not be honest on an S Plan purchase? He quoted me 23800 for a 6s with all the options.
  • stretchsjestretchsje Member Posts: 700
Funny, my aftermarket setup sounds pretty good :-)
  • choppermakerchoppermaker Member Posts: 31
mazdamarla: I didn't know that getting a variable seat heater was even possible from the factory. Was this a custom job from your particular dealer, or is it something any dealer could do? Do you have any more info on this?
  • mazdamarlamazdamarla Member Posts: 350
The variable is not available directly from Mazda. But the dealer could install it as such with whatever leather I wanted if, due to the options packaging, I could not get what I wanted directly from Mazda when ordering. I don't know who Borgman uses, where they get the leather, if it's dealer-specific or dealership-wide.
  • choppermakerchoppermaker Member Posts: 31
Can you email me with S-plan pricing for the following configuration? (If you have invoice and/or retail numbers to put next to it, that'd be great, too.)

6s manual; sport pkg; leather; moonroof; Bose; comfort pkg; SAB; auto-dim mirror (no HL); sport grille; ULEV; wheel locks

    Thanks a bunch!
  • zaimonzaimon Member Posts: 124
Ford cars usually place special A-plan prices (the retired ford employee price, actual dealer cost?) on the lower right hand side of the sticker, I've read X/S-plan would be 4% above that price.

    Any confirmation?
