in my experience the xc90 is as efficient (mpg) with 87 or 91 octane. i've run many tanks testing for mpg over thousands of miles. also i've got a lead foot like you wouldn't believe. i tend to take it easy with the xc90 though - accelerating fast onto a highway with the xc90 2.5T engine jiust is not possible. it has decent low end torque though.

It can be done, by the dealer.

    Swedes don't have car jacking.

    "Swedes don't have car jacking"

That's very true. I have driven in every country in Western Europe, and car Jacking is not a worry at all. It's the crazy drivers in the southern countries that are the worry.

    You mean the Aussies? ;)

Well after a year or so of posting, asking questions and receiving many helpful answers from the readers on this forum I went to the Volvo dealer this afternoon and ordered a V8 XC90 thru the OSD program.
Thanks to everyone who answered my many questions

    No, the southern Europeans.
  • ivan_99ivan_99 Member Posts: 1,681
I see…I thought you meant south of the equator…So I was thinking South Africa? Chile? Australia…

Aside from the new colors, does anyone know of any other 06 features. Perhaps Bluetooth, integrated phone, front park assist, rear camera....they have got to add something else..right!!
  • gambiamangambiaman Member Posts: 131
They added tire pressure monitoring as standard and rear child locks to the convenience package. Front park assist is still an option. Don't know of any other changes.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Tire pressure monitoring will not be offered on the 06's.
  • gambiamangambiaman Member Posts: 131
Tire pressure monitoring is on the list of standard equipment from the OSD order sheet for 06's. If they deleted it do you know of any other items on the list that have been deleted?
    Thanks

I spoke w/ TDS, they simply haven't updated their information yet.

    Everything else is still available.
  • c130c130 Member Posts: 16
Is it available at all, my dealership said my 2006 V8 would have it?
  • tdo123tdo123 Member Posts: 102
How about Bluetooth or an integrated phone. I have heard that is a big concern because many other luxury cars have it now or are deploying it in 2006.

    Hi
I'm visiting the US, and this is my 12th time here...
I have noticed that you americans have different level of octane in the gasoline here than in Europe.

Anyway, I give my XC90 the best gas, "98" ... But can you explain for me why you guys here have lower octane in the gasoline thatn home, or is it just a different scale?

    Gasoline here; 87, 89 and 93

    In Sweden (europe); 93, 95 and 98

    Hey

I had the same problem when I purchased my T6 AWD.. When you push the lock button all doors gets locked right?
But you can open the doors from the inside by pulling the door handle, but not from the outside, thats because of the safety reasons. (because if you crash so you can quickly get out of you vehicle)
There's a little switch on on the door if you open it, the switch is located next to instruction panel, you know what I mean? The Child-lock switch.

I love my Volvo, it's the best SUV I've ever driven=)

I think, so I may be making this up, that in Europe they only display the RON (Research Octane Number).

In the states they display the RdON (Road Octane Number) that is an average of the RON and MON (Motor Octane Number).

    Octane ratings based on:
    RON – easy driving
    MON – high speed

And those numbers are based at sea level, so the higher you go, the lower the numbers will be.

But…diesel is much cleaner in Europe…

Has anyone had a problem with the driver and passenger side speakers falling off? We've had an XC90 since December and have had it in for repair 5 times - when the speaker falls off it has been cutting holes in the leather of the door panel which we've had replaced several times - we are taking it in this week for repair number 6 and have had numerous discussions with the Volvo manufacturing rep - and they can't seem to solve the problem. We are thinking it must be a manufacturing defect but can't find where anyone else is complaining of the problem.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
FAIK, its not going to be available at all.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    No integrated phones.
Volvo will be debuting their bluetooth adaptor, but it won't work on the XC90 or S40.

exchanged emails with navteq, which makes the discs for volvo, about some roads missing on the dvd. navteq said the roads exist in their database, but haven't been driven & confirmed, so volvo chose not to have them included for "driver safety" purposes. sounds like it's slow process to get more roads confirmed and then added. don't know if a non-navteq dvd would work - suspect volvo designed the system to prevent other dvd's from working, otherwise people would be watching videos on the front screen, right?

    Hi,

I'm hooked on the XC90 for 2006. I want satellite navigation and I can get a nicer one after-market: Pioneer AVIC-N2. In looking at the interior of the XC90, it doesn't appear that installing after-market navs (or audio for that matter) will be a simple affair. There doesn't seem to be a place to put it. Does anyone know what adapter would be used for an XC90 for after-market navs/audio installation?

    Hi All,

I just contacted GEICO to get a quote for full coverage on a XC90 V8. They quoted $1153.50 semi annually!! I live in the Washington DC Metro area: Prince George's County to be exact. My wife and I haven't had a speeding ticket or moving violation in over 15 years. My last accident was 5 years ago. Even then, the person backed his suburban into me! The vehicle would be in a garage kept. What are the rest of you paying for your XC90's?
  • islander71islander71 Member Posts: 25
I reside outside of Nashville, TN and pay $720 annually for full coverage through State Farm for our 04 2.5 XC90.

Where outside Nashville? I moved from Franklin to The Woodlands, TX about 2 1/2 years ago. I'm from Tennessee originally, Alexandria to be exact, doubt you ever heard of it though.
  • islander71islander71 Member Posts: 25
Murfreesboro. I know the Woodlands is outside of Houston. You are correct about Alexandria. Where is it located?
  • tgraysontgrayson Member Posts: 15
I have my wife talked into getting out of the mini-van and into the XC90 but I just have to ask the question...is the xc90 doable with a 5, 3, and 1 yr old.

    Thanks
  • islander71islander71 Member Posts: 25
I believe it is. We have a 5 year old and a 3 month old in ours. You could put your 5 year old in the middle booster seat and put the three and one year old on opposite sides. You should have plenty of room for a stroller, etc. in the back.

I went to college in Murfreesboro, MTSU, graduated in 1990, aerospace major. Alexandria is just east on highway 96, about 30 miles. I just ordered an XC 90 V8 and it is supposed to be in around the middle of September. I'm looking forward to the new XC 90 and the dealership I bought it from is letting me drive a 2005 XC 90 with the 2.5 engine until my new one comes in. I was very surprised when they let me drive this loaner for free, especially since this is my first car from them.
  • islander71islander71 Member Posts: 25
We are not that far from the MTSU campus. It sounds like you have yourself a first-class dealership. We bought our XC90 from Darrell Waltrip Volvo in Franklin in Nov. of 2003. I am pleased with the vehicle. My wife is the primary driver and she loves it.

Any one know how this works? Does it use an activated carbon filter or the electronic type that does not need periodic replacement?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
First off, IAQS IS NOT a filter.
The car has a dust and pollen filter that needs to be replaced every 15,000 miles or so.
IAQS is a sensor located in the cabin air intake. It monitors for carbon monoxide and other toxic gases and automatically closes the external vents in the event that such gases are detected in amounts considered unhealthy.
Once the air outside is considered safe, the external vents are re-opened.

Just picked up a 2.5T FWD in Titanium Gray with Premium and Versatility package, 18" Allow wheels, Wood steering wheel and rear park assist. In the past 3 days of driving it, it reaffirmed my decision to trade in my 2001 LR Disco II SE7 for this one. Don't get me wrong. I loved that Disco. I hated to see it go but the XC90 really caught mine and my wife's eyes. Looks like we are going to be in a real treat for years to come. Just a couple of curious questions. I read in one of the posts that auto-lock for doors can be done by the dealer. I ask my sales person about this and she said it is not available. I guess I'll ask the service advisor when I take it in for the first service. In addition, if you lock the car using the key fob the only indication you get that it locked is a blink of the lights. Is it possible for it include a short honk of the horn or a beep like other cars?
  • calhoncalhon Member Posts: 87
IAQS consists of the sensor you described AND a multifilter with a component (probably activated charcoal) that absorbs odors and pollutants. Cars without IAQS have a regular dust and pollen filter. Both kinds of filters need to changed at 15,000-mile intervals.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Auto-lock can be programmed by the dealer.
AFAIK there is no way to get the horn to beep when you lock the car.

I down loaded a brochure for a 06 XC90 V8 and noticed the estimated MPG is now 15/21 instead of the 14/20 for the 05's. Any idea why it has changed. I was very glad to see the change, just curious as to the why's
    Thanks
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Well, when Volvo did their own testing they were coming back @ 16/22.
Guess the EPA is slowly coming around.

We were returning mid 20's @ 70mph on the track in Dec.

Just bought a v8 xc90 and love it!
quick question: i can't seem to figure out what the top section of the rear side tail lights does. i have looked for answers online and found nothing. i assume that they are just there for reflection. anyone know?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Just for looks, and reflection.

Ok, so I just purchased an XC90 V8. The manual says that the gas tank holds 21 gallons. The problem is that I have driven it and filled it up twice as 0 miles until empty, yet it only takes 19 gallons. Does that mean I have the 18 g tank and the rest is in the pipes, or is there a 2g reserve?
  • ivan_99ivan_99 Member Posts: 1,681
    The reserve sounds about right.

Why would you go till you only had one gallon left? Or until your miles till empty reads zero? Aren’t you risking stranding yourself?

If you question is how big is my fuel tanke…it’s probably 21 gallons, but I’d follow the fuel indicator for fillups.

I am looking to purchase a used XC90. I am thinking that I would fit into the category of a 2.5 (not the t6) and to make the price more reasonable, possibly a FWD.

Am I wrong in thinking that an AWD is not completely necessary in that it does not help me stop any better. I understand that it can help me out of a large snow drifted road. But really, if this vehicle can not pull me along with the 2 front wheels on pavement, its probably a blizzard and I ain't driving anyway. In other words, I will be doing normal driving, no dirt road stuff. Don't misunderstand me I know AWD is better that FWD, but in every day driving isn't most power to the front wheels anyway. If it could help me stop in an emergency I would be all for it. My FWD volvo sedan has always served me fine in the last 10 years of north east winters. Any thoughts??

I also am looking for 7 passenger. Is that a rarity in 2.5 FWD? or does not make a difference?

Any thoughts would be appreciated as I begin my search.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
If you are looking in the NE, FWD XC90's are proably pretty rare.
We sell a bunch of them here in the southwest.
The price difference between the two is only @ $1800.
Down the road resale will be better in your area w/ the AWD.
You are correct in saying that AWD won't help you stop any better, it will help you go better, esp in snow.
Keep in mind that the XC90 is alot heavier than a Volvo sedan, anywhere from 1,000 to 1500 lbs heavier. Pulling this extra weight in snow could be more difficult.

Could someone with the wing load bars please give the width of the bar?
    Thanks
  • beaster4beaster4 Member Posts: 10
    2 7/8"
  • gambiamangambiaman Member Posts: 131
    Thanks.
That means my Thule Evolution box with the Quick-Snap attachment system will work with the wing bars which I think look nicer and are probably quieter than the square bars. The U-bolts for the box have a 3 1/4 inch opening.
Is Lev still out there? He hasn't posted anything is quite a while.
  • eliaselias Member Posts: 2,209
merk850 - AWD will tend to increase a vehicle's stopping distance compared to non-AWD version, due to the extra weight. i don't know if anyone has measured such a difference with the xc90 however - and i think the volvo awd hardware only adds 100 lbs or so. so if you have a 100lb passenger onboard a FWD xc90, that should increase the stopping distance about as much as AWD would.

i believe all your comments re awd vs fwd are right on.

as for 7 passenger, i think there are plenty of those around ! cheers...
