I am considering buying a camry XLE V6 for $26,128 (dealer price without taxes). Can anyone suggest if this is a fair enough deal?

I am from King of Prussia, PA.

Hi, for those looking for pricing, I just bought an 04 Camry SE V6, Leather, 6 disc changer, sunroof, side and curtain air bags, auto, heated seats, alloy wheels. Sticker was $27,044. I paid $23,100 AFTER 750 rebate (23,850 before). Thought this was a pretty good deal. I also got the 6 year 75K platinum toyota extended warranty for $650. Happy shopping!

Excellent deal! In which region are you located, are you happy with your choice thus far, and which color did you choose?

was the $20500 out the door price, or before taxes/fees??? thanks
  • danielj6danielj6 Member Posts: 285
Terrific price and an excellent value! How did the dealer went down from 27044 to 23850?? You must some special negotiating skills.

Regarding the extended warranty, is it 6 years/75000 miles after the basic 3 year/36000 expires? It may seem like an silly question but I need to know. Also, is this extended warranty accepted only at Toyota dealer service departments or you can take the car to a private shop?

In any case, congratulations and enjoy your car!

$17093 Price for ABS + Floor mats sounds good. My best offer so far has only been $16,925 for the LE auto without anything.

I'm trying to aim at $16,500 , maybe too low, but oh well, not in a hurry.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
I'd strongly urge you to spend an extra $250 and get the ABS on the Camry. Even if the best price you get is $16925, add in a couple hundred for ABS and floormats, you're still ahead of the game, according to selling prices on carsdirect.com. Unless there are some serious budget constraints working against you, I think $16,500 is not possible with ABS and mats.

Just bought my car as described for $17,355 out the door in St. Louis. Had to drive 270 miles from home to get the deal but figured it was the best price available in this part of the country. I'm satisfied that I made a very decent buy. Joe in Mt. Home AR
  • odumonacoodumonaco Member Posts: 5
The warranty is an extended warranty, so it is a bumper to bumper warranty that starts after the 3 year 36K warranty expires, up to 72 months or to 75K miles whichever comes first. As far as I know it is only accepted at Toyota dealerships in North America.

I bought a new 2004 Camry XLE V6 in North California about ten days ago. Because I trusted Toyota too much, I did not inspect the body paint carefully. After several days, by chance, I noticed a 4"x1" area on the rear bumper in driver side was not painted fully. It is little lighter. I am very disappointed. I talked to the dealer yesterday and was told that they can repaint that area. They assured me that it will be good as new after they repaint it. I read the message posted on Dec 12 2003, jiamin mentioned "Repaint could be almost the same as brand new, and could be not as good. ...... They painted it and looked just fine. After a few years, the repaint area had many lines of tiny cracks, although no peeling off, but the other door with original paint had none." Does anyone know if I can force dealer to replace the current bumper with a new one? If repaint could be almost the same as brand new for now, how can I find out whether they replace it or not? Any advice? Thanks in advance.
  • jiaminjiamin Member Posts: 556
    Hi buy2004car,
Sorry to know you are in such situation. You said you like to "force dealer to replace the current bumper with a new one". I guess you mean "replace a new one with the original paint from Toyota at the factory"? I may be wrong, but I don't think there is one with original paint. All bumpers will be painted with the correct color code.

I've seen many bumper covers with noticeable color different from the car body, and most repainted bumper color is lighter. Some of my repainted bumper has the same color, but there are some small particles in the paint, and the metalic texture is a bit different from the rest of original paint if I look closely.

Maybe your bumper is already a repainted one due to paint damage during shipment? It's very rare as a Toyota car.
  • bronzemaxellbronzemaxell Member Posts: 55
i believe new bumpers in dealer parts department only come in one color, non painted black, and one choose to paint it to match the vehicle color.
since the bumper is plastic on most toyota, repaint on plastic may have different result in the long run than if it was re-paint on metal sheet material such as door, or hood.
  • buy2004carbuy2004car Member Posts: 2
Thanks jiamin and bronzemaxell for the reply. I think if the color of whole bumper is slightly different from the color of the body, that is fine with me. The problem now is the color in 4"x1" area on the bumper is different from other area of the bumper. If I agree with the dealer to repaint the car, will the dealer repaint whole bumper or just repaint 4"x1" area usually?
  • jiaminjiamin Member Posts: 556
I'm sure they will paint the whole bumper. Never heard anyone who can paint just a small area that matches the rest.

I wish I know much more about the paint/matching, so next time when I have to paint one area like bumper, I let compiter off-set the color a bit so as time goes on it'll match more closely.

I hope buy2004car will be happy later with the re-paint. In fact I found myself don't care that much as the car gets older, with all the scratches, little dents, ...

Hi folks - since this discussion is suppossed to be about Prices Paid and the actual purchase experience, we're not in the best place to have this conversation about paint.

Let's move over to our general Toyota Camry discussion to continue.

    Thanks - see you there!

    Hello all,

Thanks for your posts here to help guide me. Here is what i ended up with:
04 SE V6 w/Navigation package, side/curtain airbags, spoiler, aluminum wheels. MSRP around $28,400. "Internet Sale Price" listed on dealer website around 25,000, which was about $80 below invoice. So I show up to the dealer and get these further reductions:

    (750) rebate
    (200) internet coupon on dealer website
    (400) recent college graduate rebate (this works if you just got your Masters degree too like i just did!)
and lastly, I was shocked to learn I could have 2.9% financing from Toyota on a 5 year loan because it was a Camry.

    Final score:
Out the door price including tax, tags...everything was $25,200 and monthly payment of $358 (after $5200 down payment). I am happy.

    Where:
Alexandria (Virginia) Toyota--highly recommended. It was such a smooth transaction, I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO MEET OR NEGOTIATE WITH THE SALES MANAGER :)
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Congratulations! Are you happy with your vehicle so far? Which color did you choose? You sound like you got a very good deal, you should be happy! Do you know if your Camry had the Side curtain airbags and VSC package or the stand alone Side-Curtains option. I have not seen Side Curtains as a stand-alone option on V6 models up here in NJ, but it would be great if this became more widely available.

thanks....happy, yes! Yet haven't had a chance to drive much yet. Love the sporty feel and am surprised at how roomy it is. It takes up as much space in the garage as our old Plymouth voyager minivan--that should tell you something! We got the phantom grey pearl with a charcoal leather interior. It had the stand alone side-curtains option without the VSC, which kept the price down somewhat.

Hi all, thanks for your help and advise.

I ended up with a Silver LE 4 cyl Auto with ABS and floormats for $16,999 . Los Angeles, CA area.

Anyone know how to apply for the college grad rebate? I graduated a few months ago.
  • sjennesjenne Member Posts: 7
i got the college grad rebate. Of course I knew about it at the time of buying so was able to include it in the car purchase process. The key guy/gal who processes the rebate is the person in the dealership's finance department. And be prepared to prove your degree (I had to fax him a copy of my transcript)

You should try using carsdirect.com as a benchmark. This will give you an idea of a good selling price for the vehicle in your area. However, carsdirect.com will allow you to create a vehicle that may NOT actually exist in typical inventory in your area.

To find out which options combinations are available in your area, go to buyatoyota.com. THEN go back to carsdirect.com, and see what a good selling price is.

Deric2, it's not clear what you are asking. If you want to know how folks feel about the 2004 Camry, you might want to drop by our Toyota Camry discussion, read through the messages and ask any questions you might have.

We generally use these Prices Paid & Buying Experience discussions to report what happened in the buying process. Reading through these messages will be helpful if you are looking to learn what folks are paying for a 2004 Camry.

If I can help you locate any specific resources in the Town Hall, please feel free to drop me an email - click on my name at the top of this message to see my profile.

I live in WV and I am ready to buy a new Camry LE. I have checked several dealers and the best price I have found is 18,300. Any dealers in the Columbus, OH area (or anywhere that is driving distance) that will beat that price? Thanks

I went to IRA Toyota in Saugus first. All was well. In comes manager. They had a high pressure manager come in for me when I specifically told them I wasn't interested in purchasing the car for at least another 6 months, which was a lie but nevertheless.

I then went to Woburn Toyota. Got a V6 SE in silver. Added leather, heated seats. The car came with the 6 Disc In Dash CD which is not what the website or kelly blue book or edmunds.com says is standard, but it was. This was confusing as it's part of the premium package I was interested in. The new standard equipment in the V6 SE is slightly different from what's listed online/brochures, so keep that in mind when you do your math.

$23,500 including 400 recent college grad discount. 0% for 36 months.

V6 SE with premium package MINUS cargo net.

I also got suckered into the 6 year/100K mile extended platinum warranty. (I drive a lot) - ~$1300

    And I got Lojack + Alarm system. - $795

Please don't tell me I got ripped off.\

Had a fairly easy time at Woburn. They started me off at 24,999. Invoice I think was 23,000 but I was confused with the equipment.

STEER CLEAR OF IRA. If you go, tell your sales associate to NOT BRING IN A MANAGER or you'll leave. It was very unpleasant.

    Happy hunting!

sounds like a good deal-- $19,900 with a moonroof-- we're considering a 4 cylinder LE with ABS and moonroof as the only extras-- what's the 20th anniversary edition mean??? more info please!!! thanks!
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
I have never heard of this? Do you mean the 2004 LE Limited Edition? If Toyota is calling this the 20th Anniversary Edition also, they'd do well to check the record books and find that the Camry was introduced for the 1983 model year, so technically, we should have seen a 20th Anniversary edition LAST YEAR. I really like the 16 inch alloys on the 2004 LE Limited, but disappointed that the car is only offered with the LE's same rear drums, and not the rear discs of the V6s, XLEs, and SEs.

  • 18fan18fan Member Posts: 129
I think maybe some Toyota regions have unique "editions" that are not available elsewhere. For example, I was visiting family in Columbus OH last summer & stopped by a local Toyota dealer. They had an "American Edition" which was some alloy wheels (really cool wheels BTW... not the V6 dog dish wheels), a spoiler & some other small stuff added to an LE 4cyl (some had factory moonroof, others did not). Back home in the Mid Atlantic Region, there are no "American Edition" Camrys anywhere.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Are not cool, IMO, and make predicting resale value of that specific model difficult. For what its worth, 18fan, the rather horrid "dog-dish" alloys of the 2002/2003 LE V6 have been replaced this year by much more attractive, though similarly smallish, 15 inch alloys.

    ~alpha
  • motownusamotownusa Member Posts: 836
Can they be put in a 2003 LE V6? I think the 15" is too small for the Camry. When the time comes to change my tires I think that is what I will get if it can be done without compromising the ride and handling.
  • navyjnavyj Member Posts: 5
I am looking at getting the Camry. Not sure what model I want yet, but I do know that I want the side curtin airbags. Did anyone buy their car in Maine? Looking for a good deal. Thanks.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
What information, exactly are you looking to get? Its hard to help you if you dont elaborate.... If you're looking for a good selling price, do this (which I said not 10 posts ago):

    1) visit buyatoyota.com to see the Camry packages that are avaliable in your area. choose one, take note of options included, and the MSRP.

2)go to carsdirect.com. build the exact Camry that you built on buyatoyota.com. Compare the MSRPs, they should match. (sometimes they are off by a hundred bucks or so, no biggie, as mfrs. are constantly changing pricing). take note of the "Invoice" price, and the "carsdirect.com" price, which will include reginonally available rebates.

    3) go to dealer and use information to bargain.

    Best of Luck.

TEXAS : Wanted a bare 2004 Camry LE 4 cyl 4 spd auto Ext Color 04Q2 Desert Sand Mica, with absolutely nothing else added (MSRP $20,390 according to Kelly Blue Book, $20,425 is actual current MSRP). I requested availability and "Drive-out" price, which avoids the confusing bill padding which can follow the quoted discount price. To make a VERY LONG story short, I received 3 offers to sell
    at $100 over invoice. Those 3 "Drive-out" prices were Cavender = $19555.43, McGill = $19,400, and Calvert = $19,958.84
    .
I don't believe the $19,400 "Drive-out" price, so instead, I ask Cavender to write the deal up. He says the car was just sold. So I expand the number of dealers I e-mail, and sent out the following:
    .
"I have enough salemen to deal with, that I don't have to deal with non-responsive quotes. If you quote me the wrong thing, i.e. with extras I did not specify, I will drop you from consideration. I don't have time to correct salespeople who can not get things right the first time. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. I've lived in San Antonio since 1986, but I've bought a 1999 Durango from Oklahoma, a 2000 Honda Odyssey from Lafayette LA, and a 2002 Nissan from San Marcos, TX. The last car which I bought from a San Antonio area dealer was a 1996 Camry. The best deal I've been quoted is $100 over invoice, but it's not in stock yet. They are going to try to intercept one before it reaches the distributor. Don't bother quoting a Demo Car, or a car which has been repaired. You are only wasting time. You waste my time, and I will tell everyone on Edmunds Townhall, and I know you value your internet reputation."

Within 30 minutes I get the response I have been looking for.

    "Hello Tommy ,
What you ask is simple and as Director, I feel that your needs are being answered below. A 2004 Camry in desert sand with no additional options. ( I have 1 in stock)

Your cost after rebate will be $18137.55 making your drive out at $19499.18 . Now ALL REBATES END TODAY!!!!!!!! So in order to receive this price you do have to arrange to come in today and purchase the vehicle from myself. As of Feb 3,2004 the $750.00 rebate will change to a higher or lower or even go away. WE DO NOT know at this time……. This is a NEW CAMRY 10 miles on the odometer. If you decide to purchase after today, then your starting price will be $18887.55 then depending on what happens with the rebate will decided your final price.

    John Chervinskis
    Director - Fleet/Internet/Special Programs
    Red McCombs Toyota"

I have to report that John was terrific to deal with. He took the time to answer all my questions, faxed me a buyer's order with all the numbers detailed, and went over all the features of the car. Not only that, but he sold the car for $0 over Invoice price. I didn't try to grind him, and he didn't gripe about how little he was making. He was happy with the $398 holdback. Great deal on a car he got on Jan 29 and I purchased Feb 2. He was very friendly and courteous, and above all informative and straight forward. Note that he clearly stated what was going on with the rebate program, and how it could change. So I can give John Chervinskis a very strong recommendation. You can e-mail me if you want to hear the LONG story about dealing with the other dealership salesmen.

Wrote the Check for $19499.18 plus $625 (supposedly $50 over their cost) for a 7 year 75,000 mile Zero deductible Platinum Toyota Extended Care Vehicle Service Agreement.

    Varies by region. Visit http://www.buyatoyota.com.
Enter your zip. Check the offers that are shown on the page after you enter your zip.

Currently in "Greater New York City" Region of which I am a part, its $1000 all models, OR special financing, but not both.

To put this in perspective, the Accord is offering only special financing (but no rebate).

The Malibu, even in its infancy (2004 is its first MY) and despite its relative high competency, is also using $1000 cash back.
